Predictable Recurring Revenue
The ability to predict revenue to a high degree of certainty is golden for all businesses. With predictable recurring revenue, you know you can make payroll and when you can afford to invest in the business — all because you have customer contracts that will keep coming in month after month. This is a KPI that we see more and more partners focusing on.
Company Valuation
One of the most important benefits coming from cloud is the fact that companies that invest in the latest technologies, and especially those that have recurring revenue, will garner a higher company valuation from an acquiring company, a venture capitalist, or the stock market. Acquiring partners and M&A experts have told us that they may pay double or more for a company with recurring revenue versus traditional resale or services revenue. There is much more to company valuation than just this,
but predictable recurring revenue is a great path to a stronger valuation.
The Market Is Moving to the Cloud
The cloud is arguably one of the most significant trends to hit the IT industry. It is more disruptive than the change to client/server or the Internet. It provides end customers with lower costs, reduced
complexity, and greater agility. While early adopters were attracted to the economic benefits of the cloud, more and more customers are excited about the business innovation that cloud can offer.
The growing dominance of the cloud is evidenced by the following IDC insights and predictions:
- IDC is seeing end customers shift from buying servers to buying services. IDC predicts that service providers will account for a whopping 43% of total server shipments by 2017. In turn,
customers will buy online services from these service providers instead of owning and running their own servers.
- IDC has defined a server submarket called "hyperscale" made up of approximately 25 companies with massive server farms (think Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Facebook but also large banks, pharmaceutical companies, etc.) that together are buying about a quarter of
all server units today. This number will grow to almost 39% by 2018.
- IDC predicts that over 90% of net-new commercial apps will be developed specifically for the cloud in 2014 and beyond.
- By 2018, 27% of all software revenue will be subscription based. When you include maintenance revenue, 60% of software revenue will be recurring by 2018.
- As of 2014, over 50% of buyer firms have adopted some form of cloud.
- IDC predicts that 70% of CIOs will embrace a "cloud first" strategy in 2016. This doesn't necessarily mean "cloud in the end." Companies will look first to public cloud options to solve a problem before looking at hosted or even on-premise options.
- Total public IT cloud services (SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS) spending will reach over $127 billion in 2018. The total IT market will grow at a CAGR of only 4.1% from 2013 to 2018, while public cloud will grow at a CAGR of 22.8%. This means public cloud spending growth is over five-and-a-half times total IT market spending growth.
- Cloud-based software applications will grow much faster than their noncloud brethren. As shown in Figure 1, cloud applications revenue will grow at a CAGR of 19.2% from 2013 to 2020, while noncloud applications revenue will grow at only 2.7%. This is a factor of over
seven times growth of cloud over noncloud applications. Cloud applications are forecast to represent 32.1% of the market share by 2020.
Hugo lesson #3! Education, Desktop Cloud Orchestrator = software $$ - high margins, then add Glassware and SnapCloud for storage like they have in our school district and our 400 healthcare facilities announcements! ARE you getting the future yet????
SPHERE3D is becoming a software company :))))
The Solution
Sphere 3D’s role: how do we fit into the Education environment?
Our Desktop Cloud Computing Appliances deliver 25 – 400 virtual Windows® desktops per unit, with guaranteed performance that is 2x – 8x faster than physical desktops. The drop-in server appliances elegantly integrate into an existing VMware infrastructure (whether at the customer site or the datacenter), providing the computing and local storage needed for hosting virtual desktops.
We also offer Sphere 3D’s Desktop Cloud Orchestrator software to simplify the creation, management and movement of dedicated virtual desktops, including policies for failover. This desktop management software aggregates key features that a desktop administrator would need from VMware’s vCenter and View into a centralized console.
What does this mean for you?
For school administrators, Sphere 3D’s solution reduces demand on constrained school budgets with high-density appliances that economically deliver 50-200 high-performance virtual desktops from a single unit. Educational outreach and student accessibility are increased through around-the-clock virtual desktop delivery to a wide variety of endpoint devices, including desktops, smartphones, laptops and tablets. In addition, Sphere 3D’s optimized technologies and management tools help reduce overhead on desktop management, saving time and money.
For students and faculty, Sphere 3D’s solution improves personal productivity with easy access to educational resources through high-performance virtual desktops available any time, from anywhere, from virtually any device.
For IT desktop administrators, Sphere 3D’s solution offers simple deployment and centralized management with increased performance. This means Windows updates and software patches can be pushed out to all virtual desktops in minutes (not days or weeks), saving on overhead costs. Optimized management tools save the IT department time and money. IT can provide a consistent computing environment to students across a wide range of devices.
Why desktop virtualisation leads the way in the VDI market

The VDI market is doing still alive and well. Again you live in the past!!
LONDON, Feb. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- About Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
Virtual desktop infrastructure makes use of a centralized storage space and system applications, and data are stored centrally at the server. It helps in providing enhanced security and smooth user experience by hosting the data in the centralized server and not in the user's machine, which can be lost, destroyed, or stolen. End-users can gain remote access to these applications and data from anywhere using their login details. Centralization helps companies with enhanced backup and reliable computing solutions. It also helps in reducing operational cost, as changes and modifications are done at a central level rather than in each and every desktop.
TechNavio's analysts forecast the VDI market in the US to grow at a CAGR of 29.70 percent over the period 2014-2019.

You can say the same about 1000 micro cap companies BUT very few are working hand and hand with Microsoft and will be part of their ecosystem :)
Plus you have many other projects like Novarad 400 facility starting in the 3rd quarter. Hmmm, wonder if Dell/Novarad/Microsoft is worried that Sphere will go broke, sure doesn't look that way!
You place your bets! I'm betting this horse wins the triple crown!!!
Keep pumping it Larry, Microsoft is in on the pump! LOL, only from hugoDS!

It doesn't get ANY clearer then that mamabear :))
Organizations that are struggling to manage apps and data in various cloud and on-premises environments can take advantage of this "single pane of glass" management tool. The Azure-based service is capable of delivering the "any cloud, any OS, any application experience," explained Brad Anderson, Microsoft's Corporate VP of Enterprise Client and Mobility during the Ignite keynote address.
"You get orchestration, application availability, disaster recovery and backup," said Anderson. "And you get all of that capability, on virtual, physical, public cloud, private cloud, hybrid cloud, VMware, HyperV all under one page of glass."
Wow Z great work, this is it!!
About SnapScale
SnapScale, available from Sphere 3D resellers, is a clustered NAS solution that is the storage industry’s simplest and largest scale-out solution. It solves the problems of traditional storage by enabling organizations with rapid or unpredictable data growth to scale capacity and performance infinitely without adding management complexity. SnapScale eliminates islands of storage, enabling easy and affordable scaling without having to predict capacity in advance. Offering user-selectable levels of data protection, SnapScale writes data across multiple nodes and drives simultaneously for instant protection and high availability by ensuring no single point of failure ever exists. The SnapScale hardware architecture and “single pane of glass” management creates a consistent user experience while both managing the existing “Global Namespace” and scaling storage as needed, all without additional layers of administration.
Didn't see your post Pepsi, I think were on to something BIG with the G-Series!!
Most of us complain about Hugo and his clan but one day I will thank him for allowing me to double my core position over the last 6 months! Most of us know the drill, make it work for you and your family!
Taking advantage of being early has afforded me to double my core on both! There will be no complaints from me :)) the near future gets tricky because I believe like SE that both are one PR from bursting onto the scene in a big way! GL all!
Great post and point Danyo!! The problem with some that complain daily is that they have no idea what their invested in. They expect this micro cap stock trade like a mutual fund or the market. Not going to happen, period!
People can get onto EK as much as they want but the man hung in for quite along time going against EMC/VMWare. Wrong market at the wrong time. Today we have a new massive market and EK is not going at it alone, he has a new team and new products to work with! Give this team some time and if they do half of what EMC/VMWare did we all will be very happy!
Being in the wrong place at the wrong time doesn't mean you can't be successful when the right place and right time is brings new opportunities!!
"Anyone who thinks the market always prices stocks perfectly and a low price must mean something more should invest in a mutual fund, not a microcap."
Yes great post Doc we both agree!! One day we'll look back and say this extra time gave us all the opportunity to add more shares and we'll be very happy about it!! Know what you own and be patient, most on this board have aced that strategy!
The problem with that attitude is you will live the rest of your life with hate. When Henry turns this into a mult-billion dollar company and most of us true longs are rich you will really be a hater, lol...GL with that!
AC it's the financials, hugo only argument left and imo a valid one! Not many fund managers that I have spoken with are willing to jump in until this changes and only hard work, great products and time will change that! Once the financials get stronger then the fear will go away.
Sell, sell and sell!! it's working but is going to take time!
Pretty much like most micro cap stocks that don't ipo and come out through reverse mergers! Higher revs and less losses and enough cash to continue is what the markets want! Sphere is busting their butts to get us their!
Another big reason is the lack of public knowledge on our products, many on the board know what we have but most don't, that should change soon. We all are here very early and patience is needed, but for us that believe and when the payoff comes getting in early and patience will be rewarded greatly!

LOL, it's just commoncents who knows the storage market more :)
ESG Senior Analyst Terri McClure focuses on network attached storage, file systems, unified storage, cloud storage, and enterprise mobility, including enterprise file sync and share solutions. Since joining ESG, she has become a much-sought-after analyst in the storage space.
Terri brings more than 20 years of data storage industry experience to her role. Prior to joining ESG, she was a marketing director at EMC, where she established and managed the company’s global customer reference program. Terri also held a number of roles in field sales support and marketing at EMC. Earlier in her career, Terri helped oversee domestic and international marketing activities at IPL Systems.
Terri has a B.S. in management from Lesley University and has spent more than 35 years as a women’s ice hockey goalie. She has won a national championship, has competed against champion Angela Ruggiero and other U.S. and Canadian Olympic players, and has stopped a shot or two!
Here's a much better view from a expert in storage!
Terri McClure, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, an IT research firm, observed that Sphere 3D's approach helps customers avoid the tangle of compliance and security issues that can arise when they engage with third parties to build out their hybrid clouds in response to the rise of mobile work styles.
"While many IT organizations want to embrace the cloud, 90 percent of the organizations we surveyed have policies in place that restrict certain types of data from being stored in a third-party cloud," said McClure in prepared remarks. "These organizations are looking for hybrid cloud solutions to fit these needs, rather than adopting multiple point products."
SnapCLOUD fits the bills, McClure said. With the introduction of the its SnapCLOUD technology, "Sphere 3D appears to be addressing customers' needs to be able to centrally manage and deliver all of their enterprise data, regardless of whether it is on premise, in the cloud, or which device employees prefer to use for work," she asserted.
