The Kittimac site is about 2 miles from Goldfields current site.
An article from today's Silverton Standard: https://picasaweb.google.com/silvertonwebworks/ColoradoGoldfields#5603260818265578802
Yes, great place. We are hoping that they can stabilize the brick and stone and rebuild the inside, but it is way too early to know.
Fire in Silverton today! The famous Pride of the West Restaurant and Tavern burned today. Here are some pictures for those that are familiar with the building.
At this point the extent of damages is unknown. Adelaide's Antiques is history also and the Silverton Brewery's basement is flooded. They shot water into the Pride for well over 7 hours.
This is a sad day for Silverton....

Not a sign of spring here. Fresh snow on the ground this morning. More coming. Actually, I have been trying to find out more info on the new land acquisition and have not had any luck so far. There are not that many locals that follow Cologold that I am aware of. As far as any "objectors", the area in question is pretty rural and I do not know who owns surrounding lands. I will try to find out more on that.
I am an avid follower of this board but I do not post unless I feel that I have something of interest to put out there.
RARE EARTH METALS in the San Juan Mountains? The other day, a Silverton local was telling me about an article they had read in the Denver Post a few months back. I searched and found the article: http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_17109238
I found the article to be an interesting read. If they were to open up more mining in this area, I would imagine that the POW Mill could also process these Rare Earth metals.
GO POW MILL!!!!!!
Next time you visit Silverton, let us know and we'll show you around.
Have you been to the Museum? That is a MUST SEE!
The train, alone, delivers over 100,000 per summer. I have never met a visitor to Silverton yet that does not love it here. They return over and over again.
And it is going to be great to have an operating mill here again.
GO GUYER & RICE!!!
Yes, it is still the Silverton Standard and the historical society owns it now.
You're right, the article is not on their site and I do not know if it will be. It is in the news stand version and the online version that subscribers receive.
Actually, Silverton gets a lot of international coverage.
Go POW Mill!
Absolutely. Go for it.
And as I mentioned previously, when things start rockin' at the Mill, I will add to them.
Also, Silverton's weekly newspaper Thursday had a front page article regarding the POW Mill and their hopes to be approved for the dry stacking method in March!
Go, Go, GO, POW Mill!!!!
I am a mere shareholder that lives in Silverton.
I have added a picture of the house in case anyone is interested in seeing it: http://picasaweb.google.com/caseys.pics/ColoradoGoldfields#slideshow/5565561849541716802
WHEN we get our permit, I will add new images.
I will take more pictures later and hopefully as a functioning mill.
I do not think I have met the guy you are referring to, but I will ask around. Someone here will know, for sure.
My dog buddy, Ansel.
I can hear you laughing way down here in Silverton!! It's great to see your enthusiasm again.
Yes, it is a county road. It is about 3 miles from Silverton headed into the mountains.
I will have to ASSUME that there is no reason to plow the property right now. That might change if we get the permits. In the fall, Goldfields property was as neat as a pin.
I know a few that own stock and they feel the same as we all do. Of course, they also want Goldfields to get up and running because they can provide some good paying jobs here.
However, most of the other residents have no thoughts either way and pay little to no attention to Goldfields.
I did notice that the road to the Old Hundred Mine was plowed but did not venture up that way. San Juan County takes their snow plowing very seriously and the roads are pretty much open most of the winter.
Yes, Howardsville was once the County seat. San Juan County did not yet exist. It was La Plata County until I believe 1876. I have not heard the story about the county clerk before, but those were some crazy days, for sure.
The road is not steep at all. You wanta see some steep roads? If you are out here again, keep following that road. LOL
GLTA Soon!
I took a ride out to Howardsville today and took some pictures of Colorado Goldfields Pride of the West Mill and offices.
The first 2 pictures are of the Mill and are on the right side of the road (which is maintained all winter). The office is on the left side of the road: http://picasaweb.google.com/caseys.pics/ColoradoGoldfields#slideshow/5565561849541716802
I thought that there might be many that have not seen the actual buildings so I am posting some here for them to see. These are not dilapidated buildings as some have called them.
Ficose took some great videos of the inside of the Mill several months ago!
Mornings have been a bit chilly, around -20. Days are absolutely gorgeous, as always in the San Juan's and we really do not have that much snow yet. Perhaps 2-3' in town.
And to answer your question, yes, I have met John Ferguson who is very much respected in Silverton.
Jenna,
I am sorry to say that he did not elaborate and I knew that he would not divulge any "insider info".
I posted this info only to let others know that it does seem that they do have a plan and that any letters should go to state officials and not to Wally.
I have been reluctant to post this meager information knowing full well that I would probably be criticized. I was only trying to bring back some optimism.
I have been a CGFIA shareholder for 2 years and I live in Silverton and I follow this board daily. Silverton wants this mill to open.
Last week I was introduced to a Colorado Goldfields major player (not Guyer or Rice), but I do not want to mention his name.
I asked him point blank if there was an alternative to using the ponds and he replied with, "that is Plan B". He also said that he felt shareholders should be writing letters/e-mails to the new governor, Hickenlooper and senators in this district. My take of our conversation would be to write our elected officials and not "Wally".
DRMS Main Office: (303) 866-3567
DRMS FAX Number: (303) 832-8106
And if you are real adventurous: Wally Erickson(970)247-5469
I will be calling our new governor, too.
I am also going to be writing letters and making calls. AND, I am going to call DRMS and complain. I listened to the entire meeting today and it was just sickening at the end. I have owned shares in CGFIA for 2 years and I watch this board daily.
I live in Silverton and we need this mill.
Would he behoove us to start jamming the DRMS phone lines requesting they approve this permit application?
