The talking heads are roaring again after a federal judge in the US has stated that the FDA's claims of the electronic cigarette being a great health risk were not as dangerous as the FDA wanted to suggest. Now it seems that the special interest controlled media is on the war path again in another attempt to sway public opinion and ostracize the new product that even big pharma is scared of according to one of their board meeting topics.

“E-Cigarettes Will Revolutionize The Face Of Tobacco Smoking And Could Pose A Threat To the Smoking Cessation Market” was the topic of the board meeting and can be searched in Google to learn more.

All members on the board concerning the electronic cigarette at the FDA, including the ones involved in the FDA test and press releases were and continue to be directly funded by major pharma companies in the US and abroad, creating a conflict of interest.

In the article by the BBC, some vague references to several studies were downplayed with the wording while the opposition was give their proper accreditation. The e cigarette industry has sponsored three known studies on the products to prove that they are safe and the studies are public. The studies were completed by two different government approved clinical studies labs, one in the United Kingdom, LPD Lab Services, which is governmentally certified by the United Kindom Accreditation Service. In the UKAS’s own words, “accreditation by UKAS demonstrates the competence, impartiality and performance capability of these evaluators.” In light of this, the accusations that the study was biased due to it being funded by the brand that was being tested can be considered to be without merit and much the same can be said for the tests performed in New Zealand, since they were also performed by a internationally recognized company called Health New Zealand.

Health New Zealand was founded by Dr Murray Laugesen in 1995 after serving a full 18 years as an established medical officer in the Ministry of Health and in the Public Health Commission. Rep. Braley Introduces Bill Requiring Explosives Screening Report From DHS

As word of possible future terrorist attacks filtered through the intelligence community last week, Congress has been narrowing its focus on the failed Christmas Day attacks to assess what went wrong and how to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) is leading the way in the House, as he introduced a measure this week that would require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to submit to Congress a report on the use of airport screening technology for explosives.


Braley’s legislation would require DHS to give Congress its assessment of the efficacy of using bomb swabbing technology – used primarily for carry-on luggage – on passengers, by swabbing their hands or shirt sleeves.

The report would assess the effectiveness and privacy concerns of measures like the controversial whole-body imaging technology, as well as canine explosives detection teams.

The bill, known as the The Protect the Lives of Americans Now through Enhanced Screening (PLANES) Act, would also require DHS to spell out a plan “to ensure the rapid deployment and enhanced use of the most effective technologies to keep American air passengers safe.” And it would ensure that all foreign airports with U.S.-bound flights employ domestic screening technologies and standards.

“As we saw from the attempted bombing of Northwest Flight 253 on Christmas Day, there is significant room for improvement in the use of explosives detection technologies for passenger screening, especially at foreign airports,” Braley said in a statement.

“I believe it’s critical that we enhance our efforts to strengthen airport security while also ensuring we don’t violate the rights of American citizens."

Braley said that his measure was not intended to supplement or trump the heightened security steps – such as more air marshals aboard passenger flights and more canine bomb detection units – taken by the Obama administration but rather to work in conjunction with them.

Last week DHS began conducting random inspections at airports throughout the country, looking for explosives, as intelligence officials had been hearing murmurs of another planned al-Qaeda attack, though the details of such a strike remained murky, according to the New York Times.

The Senate Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), is also expected to hold a hearing next Wednesday on the intelligence failures leading up to the failed Christmas Day attack, in which a man attempted to ignite a plastic explosive concealed in his underwear.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and DHS have taken heat from both sides of the aisle over the past several weeks for not piecing together the intelligence to prevent the Christmas Day bombing attempt. Some GOP lawmakers went so far as to call for her resignation.

Possibility of Plots Prompts More Checks for Explosives at Airports

WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security moved Thursday to increase random checks for explosives at American airports after officials cited a heightened concern over possible terror plots against the aviation system.

Counterterrorism officials said that recent intelligence tips had hinted at a planned attack by Qaeda operatives, but that the threat information was vague and did not specify a particular target or date. Still, after failing to anticipate the attempted Christmas Day bombing of a Northwest Airlines flight, government officials said they wanted to take every precaution.

“We must remain vigilant about the continued threat we face” from Al Qaeda, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement. “We are facing a determined enemy and we appreciate the patience of all Americans and visitors to our country, and the cooperation of our international partners as well as a committed airline industry.”

The measures will include random checks with explosive-detection devices of passengers or baggage at locations around some American airports, not just at security checkpoints, one Homeland Security Department official said. The devices search for trace amounts of explosives as a sign that someone might be carrying a bomb.

Air marshals will also more frequently board flights on certain unidentified routes, officials said. Canine teams and so-called behavior detection officers — which have been deployed in larger numbers since the Dec. 25 episode — will continue to patrol airports, looking for suspicious activity or explosives.

Three American counterterrorism officials declined Thursday evening to say what prompted the new travel advisory. But they suggested that they had seen an increase in tips about a possible attack from Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the Yemen-based group that claimed credit for the failed Dec. 25 plot. A Nigerian man was indicted last week in that case, accused of concealing explosives in his underwear on Northwest Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit.

“They continue to plot, and one of their major goals is to hit the United States,” one official said, adding that he was not authorized to discuss the matter on the record. “Everyone understands that, and we have fresh, credible evidence of it.”

The official indicated that the government had obtained the intelligence in the last few days.

“Our concern about AQAP has intensified,” said a second intelligence official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, referring to Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. “The threat from Al Qaeda did not end on Dec. 25.”

Representative Michael McCaul of Texas, the ranking Republican on the House Homeland Security intelligence subcommittee, said in a telephone interview that administration officials had told lawmakers in closed briefings on Wednesday that there could be “a couple of more” Yemeni-trained suicide bombers on the loose, but that the source of the information “was not very reliable.” Federal officials have said the suspect in the Dec. 25 attempt told them he had obtained explosive chemicals and a syringe from a bomb expert in Yemen.

The changes this week at airports nationwide will be modest, compared with security already in place, said a Homeland Security Department official, who said she was not authorized to discuss the matter on the record. Some passengers may not even notice them, she added.

For example, pat-downs will not be required of all passengers before boarding; the practice is mandatory for anyone flying to the United States from or through 14 mostly Muslim countries. But pat-downs will occur randomly at domestic airports more often, the official said.

Possible new al-Qaida threat?

Jan. 14: U.S. intelligence points to a new possible threat from Yemen-based al-Qaida against the United States. NBC's Pete Williams reports.


WASHINGTON - The Department of Homeland Security is further increasing aviation security in response to intelligence indicating Islamist terrorists were planning another attack on the United States.

The new regulations — which are to be announced later Thursday — were not described in detail, but a senior U.S. official told NBC News on condition of anonymity that they would include further in-flight restrictions in passengers’ movement, more random pre-flight screening of passengers and an increase in the number of federal air marshals on flights.

“In view of the event of Christmas Day we must remain vigilant about the continued threat we face from al-Qaida,” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement after NBC News disclosed the new measures. “We are taking an additional set of aviation security precautions to protect the American people.”

The tightened security comes after U.S. officials said new intelligence data suggested that the al-Qaida offshoot in the Arabian country of Yemen was planning another attack on the United States. A British-based Nigerian man affiliated with the group is believed to have been responsible for the aborted attempt to bomb a jetliner over Detroit on Christmas Day.

The new intelligence was first reported Wednesday by NBC News, which quoted three U.S. officials as saying the intelligence was considered credible. The officials would not describe the information or say whether it indicated a specific target or date.

“No one believes al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula has stopped planning for attacks on the United States,” one of the officials said. “No one believes that the events of December 25 are the last we will see of these guys.”

A second official said the information did not come from interrogation of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, who pleaded not guilty this week to trying to ignite an explosive in his underpants on Northwest Airlines Flight 253.
