Have used it for years, grows right outside my front door, and have used it for many, many reasons,,truly and amazing lil plant..
The more I read the more I am utterly amazed..
The laxative component of the aloe plant works by preventing the absorption of water from the bowel, thus increasing the volume of its contents and hastening their passage. This component of Aloe also kills some bacteria and is believed to act against a variety of viruses including herpes, chickenpox, and flu.
High lead in some Bay City, MI, tap water
BAY CITY, MI, October 6, 2008 (Water Tech) — Recent sampling has revealed that 20 percent of samples collected from residences throughout this city’s water distribution system have exceeded the federal maximum contaminant level for lead in drinking water, according to an October 6 article in The Bay City Times.
John A. DeKam, Bay City Water Treatment Plant superintendent, said in the article that lead plumbing in homes, including faucets, are to blame for the high levels of lead in 14 of 69 samples. The city’s water is in compliance with state and federal drinking water regulations, he added.
Regardless, the city must now follow US Environmental Protection Agency regulations and conduct public education; increase the sampling frequency and quantity; resume a program to remove the utility’s portion of any remaining lead service lines going to homes; and “further optimize” the city’s water treatment processes.
The city has been conducting a lead service line replacement program since 1999; DeKam said in the article that the city still has 4,040 lead service lines to replace.
CHEMICAL contamination from farm runoff has been blamed after millions of fish larvae in the Noosa River were found to have grown two heads.
The disfigured larvae are thought to have been affected by one of two popular farm chemicals, either the insecticide endosulphan or the fungicide carbendazim, the Courier Mail reports.
Former NSW fisheries scientist and aquaculture veterinarian Matt Landos yesterday called on the Federal Government to ban the chemicals and urgently find replacements.
Dr Landos said about 90 per cent of larvae spawned at the Sunland Fish Hatchery from bass taken from the river were deformed and all died within 48 hours.
"It certainly looks like the fish have been exposed to something in the river," Dr Landos said.
"I wouldn't like to be having kids and living next to a place that uses these chemicals and I wouldn't like to be drinking tank water where they are in use."
There is just no end to the assets of aloe.
That really would be the ticket to success, wouldn't it?
USFM:
Wasps are prolific where I live. Aloe vera relieves pain and swelling. I would also use aloe on a bumble bee sting, bee stings and even jellyfish.
Cats improved health:
An elderly cat became arthritic in a front leg. After adding one half teaspoon of aloe vera to her food daily, she began to use her leg more & her general health improved. She lived 3 more years yto her 20th. birthday.
Aloe for calf hair loss:
Calves occassionally lose hair along the middle of their back. Aloe vera encourages hair regrowth. Sometimes these hairless areas are prone to sunburn, but this problem doesn't last for long, due to the hair growing back quickly. Use aloe vera to ease and heal the sunburn.
Cat & dog first aid:
Aloe vera sprays and jelly are my first line of attack in wound care management. Aloe helps eczema, especially due to flea allergy. Treat the animal for fleas first, though eczema caused by a flea allergy is very common.
Treating bruises:
I immediately apply aloe vera , which relieves pain and can prevent the bruise turning black.

What do you put on ant bites?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
young bracken works well on bull ant bites - probably need to be in the bush for that one?
Aloe vera great for all sorts of bites, I'd give that a go. I've seen kids who normally swell from mossie bites just get a little bump from immediate aloe vera application. (Either the plant or you can get pure gel from chemists and health food shops)
Aloe Vera benefit emails regarding heart palpitatons:
Dear Dr. Sahelian, recently I have discovered something that has effectively eliminated heart palpitations from my life and in doing so, has greatly improved my quality of life and I wish to pass along the information to someone who might care enough to use it to help others. Here is the story:
In the late 1980s I developed hypertension and have been under treatment since that time. I now take both lisinopril and metoprolol tartrate for the hypertension. In the late 1990s I began to develop heart palpitations (atrial). These really bothered me psycologically even though my doctor assured me that they were not life threatening and informed me that he considered the known treatments to be far more dangerous than the palpitations themselves. As a result, I have simply lived with them over the past few years and over that time they progressively became more severe. By March of this year I would experience 20 to 40 minutes of steady heart palpitations every time I would lie down as well as random palpitations the rest of the time. They were beginning to actually make me feel physically sick. During the early part of the year I had also been having a problem with a urinary tract infection as a result of long standing urinary track problems. I was given the choice of treatment with antibiotics or uroquid (a sodium phosphate based drug). I had chosen the uroquid and by March had a very bad reaction to it. One of the results was that it really messed up my stomach. For the stomach problem I began taking aloe vera soft gels of the common variety that are available at health food stores and drug stores. I was taking two a day and by the second day I was astounded to realize that the heart palpitations were totally gone. After taking the aloe vera for one month, I stopped it to see what would happen. The heart palpitations returned within 24 hours. I started taking the aloe vera again and the heart palpitations again stopped. After taking the aloe vera for six months, I again stopped it to see what would happen. This time it took a full week for the heart palpitations to return. Recently, I had a slight problem with some minor palpitations, but found that taking a couple of Citrical tabs (one time only) caused them to go away again completely. At this point I am extremely grateful to have the palpitations gone from my life.
So far I have found one other person with palpitations. In her case the palpitations were a result of a severe physical trauma to the chest. Her doctor was medicating her for her palpitations with something that was making her feel lousy and controlling but not eliminating the palpitations. I suggested she talk to her doctor about the aloe vera. She did and he told her to go for it. I have since been informed that the aloe vera has eliminated her palpitations, the doctor has taken her off of the prescription medication, and that she is feeling better than she has in years. I have also discussed this aloe vera experience with someone at the NIH. This study indicated the aloe vera also may improve lipid and glucose levels in the blood among other things and there is no record that there was any significant follow up to it. My recent blood work done by my physician seems to confirm this since all results from my blood work showed the same patterns of improvement as those in the study. I have since sought out other substances that might help me with my hypertension as well and am now taking fish oil and COQ10 in addition to the aloe vera. I am also trying to follow the dash diet. The overall effect is that my hypertension has been retreating steadily and I am really happy that by accident (or providence) I had this experience with aloe vera. Thank you very much for providing the opportunity to contribute.
I started making my own aloe vera juice, from the actual leaf, and it sure helped my internal cleansing. Now I am regular, and not bloated all the time.

DEVELOPMENT: Climate Change Deepening World Water Crisis
By Thalif Deen
UNITED NATIONS, Mar 19 (IPS) - When U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressed the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland last January, his primary focus was not on the impending global economic recession but on the world's growing water crisis.
"A shortage of water resources could spell increased conflicts in the future," he told the annual gathering of business tycoons, academics and leaders from governments, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations.
"Population growth will make the problem worse. So will climate change. As the global economy grows, so will its thirst. Many more conflicts lie just over the horizon," he warned.
Anders Berntell, executive director of the Stockholm International Water Institute, says the lack of safe drinking water for over 1.0 billion people worldwide, and the lack of safe sanitation for over 2.5 billion, "is an acute and devastating humanitarian crisis."
"But this is a crisis of management, not a water crisis per se, because it is caused by a chronic lack of funding and inadequate understanding of the need for sanitation and good hygiene at the local level," Berntell told IPS.
He said: "This can and must be fixed through improved governance and management, and increased funding, and sustained efforts to achieve the U.N.'s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)," which include the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger and adequate water and sanitation.

There is a global water crisis. What can you do about it? The first step is to learn about the crisis, then you can spread the word, or make a difference by giving the gift of water.
PURO:
These are the hard facts about the global water crisis:
There is some good news - for the first time, the number of people without improved drinking water has dropped below one billion.
Each year more than five million people die from water-related disease.
2.5 billion people still lack access to improved sanitation, including 1.2 billion people who still have no facilities at all.
Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a water-related disease.
Millions of women and children spend several hours a day collecting water from distant, often polluted sources.
At any given time, half of the world’s hospital beds are occupied by patients suffering from a water-related disease.

Comment from user of aloe:
The aloe vera juice has kept my blood sugar down from 120 to 87 and it has also stopped my gums from bleeding. I use the jel from the plant to brush my gums.
Very interesting article about birds and aloe.
It's uses seem to be almost endless. The more I read, the more uses I find.
names--aloe vera, aloe, burn plant, lily of the desert, elephant's gall
Latin Names--Aloe vera, Aloe barbadensis
What It Is Used For
Traditionally, aloe was used topically to heal wounds and for various skin conditions, and orally as a laxative.
Today, in addition to traditional uses, people take aloe orally to treat a variety of conditions, including diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, and osteoarthritis. People use aloe topically for osteoarthritis, burns, and sunburns.
Aloe vera gel can be found in hundreds of skin products, including lotions and sunblocks.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved aloe vera as a natural food flavoring.
How It Is Used
Aloe leaves contain a clear gel that is often used as a topical ointment.
The green part of the leaf that surrounds the gel can be used to produce a juice or a dried substance (called latex) that is taken by mouth.
It's amazing! Is there anything aloe isn't used for? What a product!

Water in the West: Barack Obama and Joe Biden understand that the American West is facing a serious water
crisis. In the long run, we do not have enough water to meet the West’s fast-growing needs. Barack Obama
and Joe Biden believe the federal government has an important role to play in helping local communities
conserve water. They support federal policies to encourage voluntary water banks, wastewater treatment, and
other market-based conservation measures. We also need to improve technology for water conservation and
efficiency, and remove institutional barriers to increase cooperation and collaboration among federal, state,
tribal, and private organizations. Nevada’s "cash for grass" program, in which people are paid to remove grass
and put in desert landscaping, is an excellent model of conservation, and Barack Obama and Joe Biden intend to
help local communities develop similar projects that work for them

Here is Friday Fast Fitness - aloe vera fresher and cheaper, and probably more effective than bottled, to help cell repair.
Cut a one or two inch chunk from a whole aloe leaf. Ethnic markets may be more likely to have some.
Remove the side spines
Peel the skin and scoop the cool gel. Be careful cutting the slippery insides.
Add a chunk when making fitness water and sports shakes, and rub the inside of the peel on your face and hands, or apply to cuts and small wounds. Dries without stickiness.
Aloe is promoted as aiding cell growth and repair, as an anti-inflammatory, and helps move slow digestion on through. Promotes fitness inside and out.
From what I have read and researched, the uses for aloe are unlimited. How could anyone go wrong raising it?

Plant, TN city spar over high-nickel wastewater
PORTLAND, TN, January 26, 2007 (Water Tech) — This city has ordered the Imperial Fabricating Co. to stop emitting wastewater into the city's treatment plant after high levels of pollutants were found in its discharges, a January 24 Tennessean story reported.
The city is saying the company violated a 2001 agreement that allows the plant to release 1.05 parts per million of nickel a day, the story said.
The company, which has two plants in the city, is denying the claim, according to the article.
Brian Goodwin, the superintendent of public works, said, "Our department is having to do extra work to clean the water. We're holding sludge that shows high nickel levels, then de-watering it. And we've had to get a special landfill permit to dump the sludge."
This isn't the first time the city has had to deal with the company's waste. Since 2004 eight violations over wastewater discharges were filed against the plant, the article said.
High lead levels detected at NJ school
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ, October 15, 2008 (Water Tech) — High lead levels discovered on October 8 at Woodfern Elementary School, located here, have prompted school officials to ban the use of drinking fountains and take other precautionary measures, according to an October 14 article on www.mycentraljersey.com.
The school uses well water and tests for various contaminants each year. In two of 10 tests, the water tested “higher lead levels” than acceptable.
All water fountains have been covered or disabled, and containers of fresh water have been placed next to the fountains, the article said. Bottled water also is being delivered to the school. School water is being used for cooking.
McGowan Well Water Compliance Mgt. LLC is assisting school officials in developing a remediation plan, according to the article.
State requirement dictates that the water cannot be retested until the beginning of January 2009. The precautions will be in effect until that time, according to the article.
Some CT tap water has elevated lead levels
NEW BRITAIN, CT, July 10, 2008 (Water Tech) — The water department here has said that 17 households have elevated levels of lead in their tap water, according to a July 10 article in The Hartford Courant.
Recent tests indicated that those households had lead concentrations levels at about 21 parts per billion (ppb). The US Environmental Protection Agency maximum contaminant level for lead in drinking water is 15 ppb.
Lead solder and fixtures are to blame, city water director Gil Bligh said in the article.
The city now will study ways to control corrosion in pipes, will notify residents about test results and will test the water for six months.
We can live withoit food, but not water so I'd agree, PURO is in the right field.
All I have read are benefits also and yes this stock should FLY!
We should always be cautious about claims and double check on info.
