Dill, don't you think that trusting a candidate to pursue a set of policies is important ?
A lack of Sincerity on Kerry's part is what turns me off.
When a politician like Kerry steals the agenda of another candidate you begin to wonder if he has any true convictions.
Kerry takes money from special interests and then dishonestly states to American people he would oppose special interests and lobbyists. He lack credibility on that front.
Would you trust a fox to guard a Hen house ?
True honesty and sincerity in a political candidate is hard to find these days.
Dean may not be a very good politician but he is sincere in his convictions that the current political establishments must be reformed if our republic is to survive .... the hard times that are before us.
Blue, I whole heartily agree. eom
Cotton I've got to agree with your opinion on AAPL.
The market needs more news to make this one take off. New iMac G5's with a new form factor would be nice. I've made a nice chunk of change from buying AAPL in the teens. I only wish my other investments would perform as well.
OT: Electable, Yeah Right !!!
Blue, interesting assessment. Unlike Dean, Kerry has a long record that can be pointed too. I have very serious doubts about Kerry's electability because he has flip flopped on his positions over the last 19 year in politics. He is the epitomy of the tax and spend liberal that this country can ill afford.
I find it strange that Kerry who voted for the current iraqi conflict is now viewed as the anti-war candidate. The timing of Kay's assertion that their was no WMD due to faulty intelligence on iraq and the veracity of the current administrations positions on iraq and medicare being called into question?
IMHO, It would seem to me that the most electable candidate would be the one with the most consistent and fiscally sound message.
Tex, thanks for the great info on Apples XServe G5.eom
OT: Sir William of Gates and MSFT to be skewered by the EU.

OT: He doesn't have too.
Blue, since the Republican's control both the house and the senate he really doesn't feel he has too.
That's not Bush's fault .... thats our fault.
We really do deserve the government we get because over half the US population does not vote.
Time to Wake Up America !! We all need to Stop watching reality TeeVee and take our Civic responsibilities seriously because the Real reality is the current administration is both arrogant and irresponsible.
Well its hard to argue with those facts.eom
Dill, In your Opinion what makes Dean unelectable ?
Tom thanks for posting that link.eom
OT: Tired of Politics as Usual
IMHO Dill, I'll vote for an honest straight taker like Howard Dean over people like Kerry or Edwards any day of the week. They make promises they cannot keep. Yes, they look more presedential, but when its time to make the tough decisions they will stick their pinky up in the air and vote for what is politically popular and expedient at the time rather than voting for whats right for the American people.
Does Dean really strike you as Presidential ?
A real leader stands for things that may be unpopular at the time like balanced budgets, cutting spending and thinks about the long term ramification of policies. Governing our nation is different from running a Big Corporation which focuses on quarterly profits. A nation needs to invest in its most basic resource its people.
Its great that more of the American people are beginning to take notice that something is not right with America and it seems to be emanating from the White House.
Best Regards, Altaire4
OT: iraqi Blunder and a Stealth Tax Hikes ?
Sure you could probably give these people in Iraq what they want, but five or ten years down the road that country will be worst all then it was with Saddam or the Taliban ruling it. These people don’t know what is good for them. How could they, they have had their human rights abused for so long, they don’t know good from bad, let alone right from wrong, or how to create a good government that will allow them to be free and prosper.
Rich, Which US administration aided and abetted both Saddam and the Taliban for geopolitical purposes ? The Reagan administration. It appears that its the Republicans that don't know the difference between Right and Wrong. Why should we trust this administration to do the right thing now. While they spout freedom and democracy for iraq they have been chipping away at American civil liberties and Free market economics. Read the patriots act. Unfunded mandates that shifts the tax burden to the state and local governments. The medicare bill they just passed inhibits the freemarket for prescription drugs by outlawing negotiations for bulk purchases which will keep the prices high and shifts the burden to the working class that pays for medicare. Net affect a tax increase. Just like Reagan which added a seperate line item for FICA. While claiming they have given us a tax cut.
Heck, how long did it take for the US to establish itself as a prosperous self-sufficient country ? A very long time with *many* lives lost creating it because evil never passes up the opportunity to stick its ugly head in.
Change needs to come from the iraqi people. You cannot impose radical change on a country that has no common culture.
These people want what we got but are not willing to work for it.
Well, if you had no means of feeding your family because foreigners have invaded your country and no work is available you would be angry too.
Just as Reagan used Iraq as a geopolitical tool the current administration is doing the same at the cost of both American and iraqi lives.
Altaire4 ..... Wake up America !!!!
OT: John Kerry Republicrat
Herb, If Kerry gets the Democratic nomination BUSH will trounce him. The guys a Limousine Liberal thats in the pockets of Big business. When you pit a Repubicrat like Kerry against a Republican like Bush. The Republican will win everytime. So tell all your friends to vote for Dean !!!
Altaire4
OT: Courage to stand up for the Truth
Well that little blunder has cost the lives of 500 + American soldiers and 1000's of wounded, many of whom will need to be rehabiltated. I'm sorry if the truth offends some people. Someone had to have the courage to publicly speak up for the families of our servicemen and woman. Howard Dean had the courage to speak up while Kerry, Lieberman, Edwards and Gephardt stuck their heads in the sand and voted for the worst military conflict since Vietnam.
War is necessary at times to defend our nation and our allies. This was not the case in iraq. No hard evidence has been given to indicate that Al Qaeda was working with the iraqi's. In fact, recent evidence confirms that Saddam urged his elite guard not to participate with the religious zealots that are ambushing our troops in iraq. No WMD found either; except traces of old chemicals that we provided for Saddam years ago. Those chemical weapons have a very short shelf life and where used to gas the Kurds. Saddam was our ally to keep the iranian fundamentalist threat from growing.
Ronald Reagan praised the Taliban as freedom fighters similar to our colonial patriots that kicked out the brits. How soon we forget.
This is an old argument and I suggest you research the facts.
No American soldier should die needlessly and without good reason.
Altaire4
OT: Whats up with that attitude !!!
Kevin, not everyone has the resources or intelligence to go to college. The Trade school used to be the answer for some people. We are still the largest economy in the world and yet we cannot afford to retrain displaced workers. Something wrong with that picture. If this job situation continues to head in the current direction any hope of a true recovery will be lost. Its not much for a citizen to ask for a job, which will then help pay for the massive defecits the current administrations has elected to run up. There has been a long time unspoken social contract in which the working class pays for the bills of the wealthy whose role has been to lead this country to prosperity. Trust me ... you don't want alot of unemployed people desperate to make a living in this country.
Altaire4 ....
OT: Get Ready to Rumble !!!!
My impression was much closer to that of a WWWF "Get Ready to Rumble" kinda thang !
Dean took the loss in iowa with a "No Woosy here kind of attitude" it sure beats choking on a pretzel and passing out.
Howard Dean may ... be the modern equivalent of Teddy Roosevelt for better or worse (Bully!!!). He has done alot to excite the democratic base.
IMHO,The "unelectable" label is conservative media propogonda spouted by pundits and pinheads inorder to drive a wedge through the democratic party. If you recall, Dubbya couldn't even win the popular vote so its the oldest trick in the book, Divide and Conquer.
http://www.umkc.edu/imc/roosevlt.htm

Mini-iPod at the top of the Apple Stores Top 10 sales chart
followed by iLife 04. The argument that the Mini-iPod is over priced is moot in my opinion. So the big question remains will Microsoft support the AAC format now that Real has added support ?
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore/
Altaire4 ..... Go AAPL !!!
OT: Iowa Caucus, Howard Dean
Dill, I have to disagree. One Caucas does not make a nomination. Howard Dean is now considered the underdog going into New Hampshire. Dean could very well smoke Kerry in New Hamphshire. Kerry is vulnerable because he gave GDubbya Carte Blanche on iraq, Then he turns around and doesn't even bother to oppose (Vote) on the 87 Billion dollar appropriation for iraq. How responsible is that ? Neither iowa or New Hamphshire are good bell-weathers of who will get the nominations so we will see how this progresses.
For a relative unknown to national politics Howard Dean has emerged as a formibidable contender.
I must say that the junior John Edwards did an outstanding job coming from behind to take second in the iowa caucus. Edwards is the Dark Horse that could end up pulling in front if Dean and Kerry faulter.
IMHO, Anyone of these potential presedential candidates would be a better leader than Dubbya.
Best Regards, Altaire4
Kevin, I think its going to better than $23.50.eom
12 Million shares Trading and it looks like some big players are buying in. Yahoo !!!
Altaire4 ..... Go AAPL !!!
Roni, its good to hear that you made a profit.
IMHO, I think Apple has a great year ahead of it, what will be very telling is what the other PC makers do before HP launches it hpod. Real is already adding AAC support that will basically leaves Windows Media Player on its own.
I still don't get the iPod but since they sell I say bring em on.
A new iMac design is needed with a G5 processor and soon.
Powerbooks are Apple's Sweet spot, you will continue to see growth in laptops.
The Dual G5 PowerMac line is suffering from a weakness in our economy. People want them but find it hard to justify the expense when a Six Hundred dollar PC can be good enough.
Altaire4
Good Question ?
Lisa, Why do substantial numbers of users need 3.2 ghz P4's or AMD Opteron PC's ? If you can answer that question then you have your answer.
To support Windows XP ?
3D Games ?
Video Editing ?
The average user (non-3D Gamer) could get by with a 600 mhz P3 or a 450 mhz G4 ?
Why do substantial numbers (enough to drive the stock) of Mac users need 3 Gig machines (or even 2 Gig ones)?
Realistic Apple Value
IMHO, Kevin's expectations on this board have been really out of sync with the reality. Apple has made some spectacular progress in challenging Microsoft on the standards for Downloadable Music with MP4 AAC. This is a remarkable feat because it won the acceptance of the #2 PC manufacturer HP. I reiterate that $25.00 a share is my target for Apple with $28.00 a share a good near term upgrade price.
Altaire4 ... Go AAPL !!!!
Kevin I disagree.
IMHO, The domestic economic picture doesn't look very healthy because the so called growth coming from American businesses is bigger profits by pairing down and offshoring labor. The lack of any real job growth is an indicator that things aren't going to get better anytime soon.
In this kind of economic climate you take profits when you have the chance.
Best Regards, Altaire4
Lang, AAPL Volume over 8.5 Million shares trading and where only .09 up from yesterdays close.
Dill, thats a hoot
Looks like they beat O'Neill down in the last 3 days, must have had secret fotos of him participating in animal husbandry. Never seen a guy tapdance so fast before.
Alot of short selling going on in AAPL today. The recent devaluation of the US dollar has some folks worried it seems.
Best Regards, Altaire4
P.S. Try to get some shuteye.
Great Post !!!
Bootz, Lang should read that article so he can fully appreciate what Steve Jobs has been able to pull off.... Not many people have been able to beat Microsoft at its own game.
dill, Yahoo is being kind.eom
Best of Luck Kevin.
Kevin, IMHO, it would have been better off if you had been the Ultra Bull when Apple shares where well under $20.00 a share. Buying in at $24.00 a share for a short term play is foolish. It appears that alot of institutional investors are playing it safe today and selling before the news. I'll be happy be if AAPL breaks $25.00 before the earnings announcements. A bigger pullback is most probably in the offing.
Best Regards, Altaire4
No Support for WMA for Hpod Confirmed
Wired is confirming that AAC with Fairplay DRM is what Hpod's will run. No WMA support is planned.
So will Microsoft threaten to revoke HP's OEM Windows licenses ?
http://www.wired.com/news/business/0,1367,61897,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_1
I hope this ends the speculation on WMA support for Hpod at least for the next month anyway.
Nickel the question is what the repercussions will be?
Lets hope the bear keeps napping.
AAPL Price Prediction !!!
Linda, IMHO, if the Big brokerages houses don't upgrade AAPL their will be some serious selling on the news. I expect Apple to hit 25 + in the run up to the quarterly revenue announcement and then a pull back to $23.50 and then a lot of sideways action if the brokerage houses are slow to upgrade. I personally think AAPL's share value is worth $25.00. The Mini iPod, HP deal could be worth as little as $3.00 a share to as much as $5.00 a share in additional AAPL value. I think Kevin is way to bullish in the short term. $30.00 a share would be reasonable in the short term if the economic picture was a little brighter. The continued loss of Jobs and other economic trends could make for a very tough 2005. I say take some profits and save some shares for the long term.
Best Regards, Altaire4
A profit is still money in the bank.
Linda, I would suggest establishing a price target on a portion of your AAPL holdings and programming the trade to happen so that you don't miss taking at least a moderate profit in AAPL. Wallstreet is always slow to upgrade AAPL, if your very patient $30.00 could be had later this year.
Best Regards, Vince ;-}
Apple's Future: The Digital Hub
I believe that Jobs has been very selective on what gets ported to the Wintel camp. With every iTunes PC install Quicktime becomes a more valuable product which will make the next set of Apple digital devices more attractive and compatible to a much larger market. Apple's iTune/iPod strategy has been brilliant. I see no need for Apple to sell the iLife suite to the Wintel platform .... at this time.
Microsoft uses a strategy of Embrace, Extend and Extinquish all of its rival products. This strategy has worked time and time again. Look at Lotus, Netscape, Borland and a host of others that no longer exist as commercial entities. Sun's Java has been the latest target with C# (.net). They became the the monopoly they are today because of that strategy so I find it highly unlikely that they would behave any differently.
Apple survives because it innovates and offers a complete and integrated experience. The iTunes/iPod/Quicktime platform may prove to be the Killer app everyone has been waiting for .... Time will Tell.
Altaire4
Microsoft is Monopolistic not Rational
The HP deal is a net positive for AAPL but don't bet on WMA support for hPod or the porting of iLife to Windows. The OEM manufacturers would have to give APPLE some cover if they want iLife. We'll need to see how this plays out with Gateway and Dell. Microsoft is not known for conceding markets to any of its competition. Garageband alone is going to put some pressure on some windows households to switch too Apple systems. The typical Microsoft strategy would be to buy a rival product thats just good enough to compete the iLife product offering which it will bundle free of charge with its OS.
I'm not the only one who thinks this way, Dilleet has a good handle on Steve's strategy.
