Susie, Yankees play Mariners who have lost eleven games straight. Hopefully Seattle's streak ends at fourteen when they play the Red Sox this Friday.
26, I guess SoxFan will be calling his travel agent to cancel his September trip to New York to see the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.
A good defensive catcher should block balls in the dirt.
Susie, from the reaction from the bench, doesn't it seem that the Yankees enjoy beating the Red Sox more than other opponents.
Then to paraphrase another member "all above is just my humble opinion and I could always be wrong."
For some reason I expect Ortiz to come to bat in the 9th in a walk-off win situation.
Broadcast was blaming Lopez for not blocking the ball.
Yankees and Red Sox both fly out to West Coast after today's game.
Next Yankee off-day, Monday August 28, 2006.
Next Red Sox off-day, Thursday, September 7, 2006.
Something the Red Sox really need for their over-worked bullpen.
Susie,
As a previously posted about Schilling, Red Sox are in trouble if Wells has to turn the ball over to Red Sox bullpen in the late innings.
More Yankee Classics to be replayed on the YES Network.
Susie,
I guess I picked the right week for my vacation.
SSKILLZ1, Instead of dwelling on the Red Sox pitching, I thought you would be more concerned with the Mets rotation.
Hopefully Glavine's condition can be treated medically without the need for season ending surgery.
Susie,
I guess there will be many people walking home from Fenway tonight.
excel,
I would move to table the MVP discussion until the end of the season when all the statistics are final.
Anybody, second the motion?
Susie,
And we have yet to hear from the one Red Sox fan that has a very strong opinion on this topic.
To paraphrase p40...
It's tough being limited to three posts a day.
PegnVA,
What do you think will happen if Schilling and Mussina get into a pitching duel and hand the ball over to their bullpens in the late innings?
skunksyard,
During the broadcast it was mentioned that the Red Sox don't have a left-handed reliever in the bullpen.
It's no wonder Abreu, Damon and Cano are gettting big hits.
If Mussina and Schilling get locked into a pitching duel, which bullpen is going to be the deciding factor?
I guess Mazilli didn't think it was a good idea to ask Steinbrenner for the day off to attend the Met's 20th Anniversary celebration.
Remember how the Red Sox bullpen dominanted the Yankees in the last four games of the 2004 ALCS.
If Schilling can not go the distance tomorrow or hand it off to Papelbon, things can get pretty ugly if they have to go to the bullpen.
PegnVA,
In 2004 Red Sox had a better pitching staff.
In two games Yankees score 26 runs on 34 hits and lineup is missing Matsui and Sheffield.
This is how I would define an MVP candidate...
Jeter goes 1 for 6 in the second game of the double header...
yet the one hit is a bases clearing double that puts the Yankees ahead.
bull,
There is always a strong NYPD presence before, during and after a Yankees game.
I would think that the Chicage Police Department would provide the same level of security for the White Sox.
Skillz1,
This time you are absolutely right the Red Sox pitching is not too good. Especially when compared to 2004.
It's part of disturbing trend with the Sox. On their last road trip - where they went 1-5 against cellar-dwelling Tampa Bay and Kansas City - the bullpen blew three late leads that ended up losses. Francona said Wednesday that inconsistent starting pitching has forced him to use his relief corps "a boat load."
Over the last 12 games, Red Sox relievers have an ERA over 6.00.
Steelers Fan...
But the difference so far as been...
David Ortiz DH 0-4 against vs. Bobby Abreu 4-4
Is Abreu the Yankees' secret Weapon?
1st - singled to center
5th - singled to center
7th - singled to center
8th - doubled to left
Rotation has not been this solid since 1998 - 1999:
Orlando Hernandez, David Cone, Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens
Stonger rotation would have made a difference in the years following 2000.
Susie,
However, the Yankees have made it a little more difficult for 26 to obtain post-season tickets in the plan he is in.
More seats for the suits.
26,
Fans at the new Yankee Stadium will have more field level seats, but at a higher ticket price.
Susie,
Any one of these games could become an instant Yankee's Classic with repeated showings on the YES Network.
I would say Yankees 3, Red Sox 2
And I should add that with Wakefield missing this series the advantage goes to the Yankees.
Pitching matchups would indicate a split today...then again you have to remember what Leiter did to the Red Sox last year.
Yankees have a clear pitching edge in Game 1 of today's doubleheader today, as Boston is starting Jason Johnson (6.26 ERA) against Chien-Ming Wang.
Game 2, with the Yankees' Sidney Ponson facing Jon Lester, actually isn't so bad from a Yankee perspective, since the rookie Lester's recent control problems play into the hands of the patient Yankees.
Game 3, Johnson vs. Beckett (Dependent upon which Randy Johnson shows up?)
Game 4, with Mike Mussina facing Curt Schilling Sunday (could be decided by bullpen, with edge going to Yankees.
Game 5, Lidle vs. Wells.
I hope they have better refrigeration systems at the new Yankee Stadium...
Hey, Yankee fans, get yer warm beer!

After seeing this comment you would think that Torre must be reading the baseball message boards...
"Sometimes you think they've forgotten that they won the World Series. For years you could understand the anger that goes with being frustrated, but after winning the World Series I thought that would change."
Joe Torre
Steelers Fan,
You don't like calling it the "House that Jeter Built". lol
Yankees break ground for the new Yankee Stadium today, August 16, 2006.
There is an irony here: The Babe died on August16, 1948 and on that same date in 1921, the first shovel was put in the ground to begin building Yankee Stadium, "The House that Ruth Built."
Torre has always said that the Yankees will go as far as their pitching will take them.
Susie,
Although Wang did settle down after the 1st, Weaver was too much for the Yankee hitters.
There is a distinct difference between Jared and Jeff.
Ironically in the ninth as A-Rod was coming to bat I told my son that A-Rod would hit a home run to make the score to 5 -2.
SSKILLZ1,
That's the reason Mets won in 1969 and 1986.
