lj: Speaking of California, State Farm is pulling out of the State, or threatening to do so.
Yesterday's news.
lj: Anything that uses more water shouldn't be done, imo. Green ammonia. Now I have heard everything! This switch to wind is solar is self-destructive. Just this peon's opinion, of course.
lj: Thank goodness for that high pressure. We don't even want to think about it getting into the hot water in the Gulf.
lj: GRRR
Let's hope that they do not do another reverse split.
SkeBallLarry: But not for "unofficial" acts. Ginning up the crowd on January 6th was an unofficial act. They can still prosecute him, but his defense is he told the crowed to "peacefully" demonstrate. In D.C., they would convict him, regardless. I am of the belief that the District of Columbia should not have Federal courts.
lj: Probably should have picked SMCI instead of MU. Knew that as soon as I saw the posting of picks. I just hope I make a decent profit in the real world. Don't own half of the position I want to own. Will give U the number in a PM at some point. I believe it is less than 35 shares.
lj: I love this contest BECAUSE of the duration. Over a 52-week period, you should get a chance to sell a position at a minimum of a 20 percent gain. I picked only stocks that I own and watch. No fantasy picks.
The turtle race starts tomorrow!
P.S. I really like your meteorological analysis. Sometimes I think you do it for a living.
At other times, the British expression "needs must" comes to mind, living, as you do, in Gulf Shores next to Jeff Sessions!
lj: Glad to see U in the contest. I almost picked SMCI instead of MU, but decided to keep my powder dry and use cash to pick it later if it corrects nicely.
I considered VTLE and GRRR, too. Your selections are good.
Now we can sit back, enjoy the contest, and start discussing hurricanes!
The green-new-deal controlled media is blathering on about a CAT 4 appearing so early in the season. Well, this nonmeterologist has news for them--canes dissipate sea heat---which is a good thing this early in the season, because the water is so unusually hot.
What is freaking me out is the weather in Northern California. What next? 90-degree weather in the High Sierras.
Blame it on Nixon and Kissinger. If it weren't for them, China might still be an agrarian country.
Last night, we finally got some rain from a big storm front. About 1 1/2 inches in about 15 minutes. It was a steambath out there this morning, but it gave me the opportunity to fertilize the tomato plants. They should double in size over the next week. Only about 14" now.
SSKILLZ1: Thank you for the hard work. I love this contest already, after seeing the picks.
With 10 picks per contestant, 27 seems to be a manageable number of contestants to follow.
And the contestants include most of the usual suspects! Thank you again.
lj: I now am fantasizing about Trump picking Vivek. Last year, I mentioned somewhere that that would be my dream ticket. Trump really, really likes the Swami. It would draw big money from a very wealthy ethnic minority. Vivek is a billionaire. Other than having too many snow white teeth, he is a dream VP candidate. I would stick a Vivek sign on my front lawn.
Think I am crazy about him, too?
r59: WBA
I read up to 2K plus store closures are on the table. Where I live, the Walgreens are stand-alone stores in great locations, which should be easy to sell.
lj: Very clever. We have had 3 weeks with very little rain.
The last time we had a big rain, my gutter was clogged, so I put two garbage gains underneath, and have about 40 gallons of rain water left. There is nothing like rainwater for plants.
Chlorinated tap water doesn't cut the mustard. If U are using well water, that is a different case.
lj: It was a setup so they could get rid of him at the Democratic Convention. It was cruel.
Started a position in WBA at $12.10. The story goes that they are going to close up to 25 percent of their locations.
U can bet that they will close stores with high theft.
They are going to have a very rough year with high costs from the closings. Also, their economy of scale on merchandise purchases will diminish.
That being said, the stock seems to have bottomed.
Buying the stock is very risky, imo, but I believe Walgreens will be a going concern for years to come.
14 minutes left to submit your pick-10 selections!
lj: I included SMCI as one of my 10-picks in the new contest.
The contest runs for a year.
You still can submit 10 picks in the next 15 minutes!
gilead23: I watched for 5 minutes. My takeaways were that Dana Bash looked elegant in her outfit and that they didn't put enough Botox above Joe's left eye, or, conversely, they put too much above his right eye. Anyone who would vote for someone who is that broken down ought to have his or her head examined.
r59: WBA is going to close something like one-fourth of its locations.
If it is closing locations with high theft, errr shrinkage, it might be a positive for the stock a year from now. However, their pharmacy business is the biggest problem.
Hope this scenario isn't a remake of a movie we have seen--The Rise and Fall of the Rite Aid Empire!
r59: WBA, etc.
Yikes. Think there will be a "dead cat bounce"?
This stock was an elderly friend's top holding. He accumulated it and reinvested dividends for decades. The lesson is not to have too much invested in one stock.
Any thoughts on CCL? I'm thinking it might a lot higher next spring. (spoiler alert on one of my pick 10 stocks!).
Thank you.
SSKILLZ1: Would U identify the 4 stocks I have already selected. Want to review them before giving U my other 6 picks, to check for industry overlap. Thank you very much.
al44: If it gets too ridiculous, Trump should walk out.
lj: NOG
Was this directed at this peon: "because no one else read CC either..."?
I'll get to it eventually.
Trinityz1: Best to you, too Trinityz1. We don't want to enrich the people who cannot stand us!
al44: First of all, it will not be a debate by any stretch of the imagination. Second, I refuse to watch because I am not going to boost CNN's ratings. The entire affair is a racket. JMO.
LJ: Read today that its same old weird scenario: High oil imports with domestic inventories of oil and petrol piling up.
lj: NVDA is on a slide. SMCI and MSTR both got smacked on Monday.
lj: Has Israel halted or greatly scaled back their operation in Gaza? There is little news about the war.
lj: Retaliation because Putin is making nice with North Korea's leader?
NYBob: This is an outrage: "More than 2,600 abducted Yazidi women and children are to this day still waiting to be rescued from the hands of ISIS terrorists."
Gen. MacGregor is excellent. Thanks for the posts.
lj: NVDA $31M is a drop in the ocean to the CEO. Chump change.
That would be like you or I selling $3,100 worth of shares.
al44: Thank you, al44. Stay cool!
al44: re Houston murder
Given the number of high-profile murders committed by illegal Venezuelans, Trump's assertion that they emptied their prisons and let the inmates comes to the U.S. seems to be true.
Every single male that entered the U.S. illegally since Biden took office should be rounded up, chipped, and deported. If home countries refuse to take them, we should send them there regardless.
lj: I think the people on weed keep running up the big tech stocks!
lj: One more thing. The bitcoin proxy stock, MSTR, still down. Could kick myself for not selling when it was 200-300 points higher.
lj: The big names did have a down today on Friday. NVDA was down several dollars again.
It doesn't seem as though it want's to correct 20 percent, but we shall see.
On another topic, EGY is hanging in there. As long as it cranks out its dividend, there will be no complaints from this peon!
lj: Once again, great minds are thinking alike. I posted that "this is 2020 stuff" before I read your post saying "Very good dotcom era flash back..."
We are on the same page, Vern.
OT: If they raise the price of petrol another 10 cents, I'm walking.
Finally, Trump really likes the guy I like--Vivek Ramaswamy. At his rally in Detroit yesterday, he spoke to him in the crowd maybe 3 times. He said he definitely will have a job in his Administration. Vivek is the real deal. His problem is that he talks too fast. That turns people off.
al44: Juneteenth should be a holiday only in Texas. This is ridiculous.
lj: Tech stocks are the only game in town. The rally is out of control. SMCI went up something like $50 a share today. This is 2000 stuff.
al44; It is George Floyd Day. How much does another Federal holiday cost the U.S. taxpayers?
Is there going to be a Federal holiday for every minority? How about Cesar Chavez Day?
Shouldn't St. Patrick's Day be a Federal holiday. Let's not leave out Irish-Americans.
The Republicans who voted for the holiday are cowards. Their constituents do not approve of it.
Why isn't there a Federal holiday for LBJ's birthday. He passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which gave African Americans full civil rights.
