Just my two bits again from the AMEX meeting - I caught the tail end of a conversation which seemed to say that two ships are in the design stage - whatever that means - that one would be the large one and the other the same or smaller size than Sanswire 1. I posted earlier to see if anyone in attendance was in that conversation to recall the specifics but no one else has posted here.
I did not get any indication that 2 ships were being built but rather there were two ship sizes being worked on by the design team. I assumed that the each was meant to meet different needs, but did not get in to ask any questions as I was called away.
IMHO - news on the core business - i.e. what happened with the Axteca cards in Mexico, what is up with cards in India and the Phillipines.
Those updates have been expected - now would be a good time to start hearing more on that and the core business while the Stratelite situation is waiting for the launch in July.
At some point, the news of GTE being followed, or recommended by one or more Wall street firms would be necessary to prove GTE's coming into recognition. I would like to see those news happening before the launch, but at latest after the successful launch.
Any news of Investment houses which attended the January meeting announcing that they are providing the funding to GTE's expansion/stratellite construction/ etc.
I understand that once the share price goes over $5, that trading in options will be possible.
It's on page C11 - upper left hand corner
I had hoped someone would post more on the conversation I heard re the plans for 2005 stratellites. I came in on the tail end on one conversation where I heard roughly that there were plans for two ships to be built
1) One very large ship
2) and another around the same size or smaller than the Sanswire 1
Since I came in late on the conversation, and then I did not get a chance to ask about the details, I hoped that someone would post the details of the ships. (my wife called me away to another conversation)
WSJ article:
I had understood that it was only an ad from the specialist.
There was an ad in yesterdays Wall Street Journal from the specialist announcing GTE on AMEX and their handling of GTE on the AMEX.
lady in the white dress is Laina Raveendran Greene
Back from AMEX celebration. Nearly every high level GTE person was there along with around 25 or so guests.
I think that there are several others who were asking detailed questions to several there and will have a better post than I. I had gone with my wife and was just trying to listen in on conversations.
There was a champagne toast to Globetel led by Tim Huff. Tim made a small speech welcoming everyone.
Leigh Coleman, Laina Raveendran Greene, Thomas Jimenez, Robert Jones were some of those in attendance.
Again I was disappointed in not getting to listen to info on the company.
There was some conversation quoted of Tim stating expectations for a profitable 3rd quarter. I came in on the tail end of another about the size of the next ship as well as another small ship but did not overhear details of these two ships.
I might have missed on some stuff, but the overall feeling was a positive one. I expect others will hae better posts and if they jar my memoty then, I will post them.
I had expected some earnings / deals/ announcements
Yes that's perfect - thank you
Can anyone help? I am trying to help a friend. I had printed the notice a few months back on the date and specs for those Sanswire shareholders as of 5/31/2004. I gave it to him to show to his stockbroker to help him file for the shares. He lost it and needs a copy - does anyone have a link to it?
Well maybe one or both of these two will be announced on tuesday? Someone had mentioned a few weeks back that Huff was in India.
Hope so
I got my confirm and will be attending. I look forward to meeting the rest of you!
HIGH HOPES / DESIGN
It might be an announcement or more on seperate news before the bell so that the bell ringing can be carried on the news with the story line - " GTE rings bell with ..... etc , maybe contracts, investment bankers ? and stock runs up like crazy.
I think that it may be leading volume seller on tuesday and possibly a double in price based on news. Huff has to have been making deals lately in his trips and held the news for just this occasion. Hit them hard and often.
JMHO
Just adding to my shares before the big push starting tuesday.
While there is not any official info on a shareholders meeting, just letting you know that they have had an " annual meeting - sometimes including shareholders around late July.
My listing of GTEL for Berlin has changed this morning to GTC.BE Has anyone seen this or heard - I assume this is the symbol needed for trading on AMEX?
Rich
To Attendees today in California:
Can you get an answer to what is the schedule of launches of sanswire 1 and 2. The news releases seem to state "launch in July". But there could have been a misquote - as in launch of sanswire 2 in july or the commercial launch in july.
Appreciation for all you can find out.
Wish I could have made it.
Go GTEL.
Rocky - my recollection was that the original agreement for Sanswire Australia was that GTEL would only have 45,47, or 49% of the ownership.
The reason I remember this is because at the time it struck me that they would not have majority ownership - over 50% of the Sanswire Australia sub.
Do you agree?
Also I am guessing that they could alter that agreement to make it a 50+ share for GTEL.
I read all your info. As should all the newbies. There are so many of them here now, and if they really really want to understand GTEL, then I don't understand how they don't read all the info here.
It astounds me. As it is , I am not a great digger on info , and you provide so much that I would never find on my own.
I wish they would read and stop posting the same questions for which most of the answers are on your site.
Unfortunately, it is very hard to explain volume and trends, except that if the market judges it worth buying shares, they will make the trades.
What would all these new people have done for the last five years waiting for today - many days without news or wind in the sails.
Today, there is so much more, but the rest of the world is still waiting for contracts, revenue, and profit.
In the end, thanks so much for your site, Rocky.
As always - thanks to the Rock for digging up info.
Great board
OT - I will be in London from 3/17 to 3/27 which is unfortunately the time of the launch test. I am trying to figure out how to keep in touch with news, stock price, and my broker.
I would appreciate any of your suggestions.
Please send replies to my email so that the board does not clutter up.

RE Colorado war games:
Or they were able to launch the communication package like they did in the July test in a helicopter - wouldn't need the strattelite but still test the technology in a war game! I think that is very possible.
OT - there is a Stargate command in the Colorado mountains!
Don't drop me for being a sci-fi guy.
All of GTEL's Stratellite is almost like sci-fi in concept. It can be an unbelievable tech breakthrough.
Best to all
Maybe there are two of them?
Rocky - thanks for all your work on this board. You should be proud of the board, especailly with the increase of postings here - most of them constructive.
Just a thought - if the first strattelite takes a year to be built - I remember the agreement with Sanswire said that they would get an additional 200 million shares based on their performance of x months, x subscribers, etc BY DECEMBER 2005. My conclusion is that probably GTEL won't have to pay out the additional 200 million shares then?
With this news on Sanswire South America - I had not heard any recent news on Sanswire Australia. I am guessing that they need the launch to succeed before they can go any further. Any thoughts on that?
As a final thought, I am looking forward to there being a Sanswire subregions of Asia, Africa, Europe, North America (Canada, Mexico US)! It almost sounds like a bunch of BabyBell companies! eom
Nasa has had projects relating to satellites, communication, defense, etc. Bullet excerpts from past NASA involvement(1993):
-demonstrate the commercial viability and market acceptability
of new voice, data and video networks and service
- Aeronautical communications could be an important new growth area in the telecommunications industry
- IMPROVED NATIONAL DEFENSE AND EMERGENCY/DISASTER COMMUNICATIONS
In the Persian Gulf war and the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, the United States reaffirmed the value of advanced military and disaster communications. Secure and reliable communications provided necessary advantages to American troops in executing quick and successful air and ground attacks, while minimizing casualties. In severe contrast, lack of immediate and adequate communications capability severely hampered the relief efforts in Florida and Louisiana
- NBC will investigate mobile and fixed terminal capabilities for providing increased communications for people in the satellite news industry, specifically while enroute to and from news sites. The experiments will determine how many "hops" can be made between points before image quality degrades beyond acceptable levels.
- It has become essential to be able to communicate and transmit data from one medical facility to another to enhance the quality of care for individual patients and to seek consultation from experts who may be at a distant location. Mayo will be investigating a variety of medical applications including image, data, and voice transmission
- U.S. Army Space Command Army The experiments will explore a variety of uses including video teleconferencing; transfer of large imagery, geographic/meteorological information, logistics, and medical databases; remote training; transmission of video, voice and data to the field; and testing of mobile communications.
The last two years GTEL filed their annual report ending 12/31 between 4/16 to 4/23
I agree - while I know that RS has horrible connatations to it. If it was done just after it goes to .25 or .50 and goes a small reverse split, this would reduce shares making it possible for GTEL to issue more for funding and it would bring the price up into a noticeable investment fund price range.
I hate hearing about reverse split myself because of the idea I got shares and I don't want to see them cut down, but I really can't figure any other way to get additional funding.
WCA 11th Annual Global Symposium & Business Expo Tuesday, Jan. 11
Session Descriptions1Closing Featured Panel: Telecommunications & Your Future
Khurram P. Sheikh, Chief Technical Advisor, Sprint & WCA Engineering Committee Chairman,
Moderator and Presenter
Rob Mechaley, CTO, Clearwire
Dr. Hans-Peter Petry, Director, Product Line Management, Fixed Wireless, Marconi Communications
Dr. Arogyaswami Paulraj, Professor of Engineering & Supervisor, Smart Antennas Group, Stanford
University & CTO, Beceem
Timothy Huff, CEO, GlobeTel Communications Corp.
In the closing featured session for the Symposium, technology and business trends are summarized to
predict our industry’s future. The session draws from lessons learned from some of the most respected
industry veterans who have sought out cutting-edge strategies over extended periods. From Marconi, one
of the world’s pioneers in point-to-multipoint technology provides his perspective on renewed interest in
wireless broadband. So, does the CTO of the Craig McCaw-backed Clearwire, which is now undertaking
a global deployment effort as a Next Generation carrier with both an equipment subsidiary and a recent
investment by Intel Capital in a forthcoming mobile solution under the forthcoming IEEE 802.16e
standard. Stanford University’s representative provides both an academic and commercial viewpoint,
especially regarding smart antennas and chipsets. Sanswire plans in January 2005 to launch the first
airship satellite, or “stratellite,” an airship that will float at an altitude of about 13 miles (20km) relaying
radio signals to and from the ground. “Such airships will, however, be much cheaper to launch and
maintain than satellites,” predicts The Economist Technology Quarterly, “and can do things that
satellites cannot.” The moderator is Sprint’s longtime Chief Technical Advisor, who is prominent in
Sprint’s strategic planning and worldwide technical alliances. His comments are expected to shed light on
options being explored by Sprint as it prepares for an announced merger with Nextel Communications.
article in new jersey star ledger today talks about money transfers to Brazil from the U.S. and also one particular Bank offering a new remittance program like GTEL's:
(bcpbank, a Portuguese bank with branches in Newark, formed an alliance with Brazil's state-owned Caixa Economica Federal to establish a remittance program, offering account-to-account transfers from the United States to Brazil. )
Every month, Evando Lacerda dutifully sends $400 to his parents in Minas Gerais,Brazil, so that they can pay for private health insurance.
Lacerda, who left Brazil three years ago, said he does this so that his parents do not have to depend on the country's public health system, which he considers unreliable and unsafe. Both parents, who are 67 years old, have heart ailments.
"If I don't send the money, they won't have insurance," said 28-year-old Lacerda, who works at Casa Nova restaurant in the Ironbound section of Newark.
DeRnelito Viana, a bartender at Brasilia Grill, sends money monthly to Brazil as well, but for a different reason. He wires a total of $300 -- $200 to be deposited in a social security retirement account and $100 for his parents.
"A lot of people send money to Brazil," said Viana, who plans to return to his homeland in a couple of years.
According to the Inter-American Development Bank, a Washington, D.C.-based group that supports development in Latin America and the Caribbean, Brazilians at home receive more than $5 billion annually in remittances from relatives abroad. This makes Brazil the second-largest remittance market in Latin America after Mexico. The average remittance from each sender in the United States is $3,000 a year, according to the development bank.
Money transfers to Brazil is big business in Newark, where some 6,696 residents were born in Brazil, according to the 2000 Census. In New Jersey, there are 22,097 Brazilian-born residents, though the number is actually much higher due to undocumented residents.
Though it is impossible to say just how much money is being sent from any specific region, it is easy to see how Newark's Ironbound section, a Portuguese and Brazilian enclave, factors into the equation. Wire transfer agencies can be seen on virtually every block along Ferry Street and Wilson Avenue, two main thoroughfares.
Dozens of agencies line the streets, from tiny storefront operations to larger companies such as Western Union and Vigo. Many agents say their main business is to Brazil.
Lacerda and Viana represent typical Brazilian émigrés who wire money home to help support their families or pay large debts they may have accrued before they migrated to America. Others use the money they have earned here in the United States to open businesses back home.
Giselle Dantas, a 25-year-old graphics designer who came from Brazil five years ago, sends money home to help her family and also to purchase clothes, she said. Her mother buys clothing and ships it back to her in Newark.
Clothes and shoes in Brazil cost one-third what they do at stores in the Ironbound, which import from Brazil, Dantas said.
Mario Trujillo, the chief executive of Vigo, an international money transfer agency based in Florida, said Brazil ranks among the top 10 countries the company services. The company sends $3 billion a year to 40 countries.
Vigo, like other money transfer agencies such as Western Union and MoneyGram, charges a fee to wire money abroad; the fee depends on the transfer amount. At Vigo, for example, there is a $5 fee for amounts up to $500 and a $10 fee for transactions up to $1,000. Other companies charge a percentage of the money transferred.
At Vigo on Ferry Street, one of the company's top locations for wire remittances in the country, about $800,000 a month is remitted to Brazil, manager Alcina De Oliveira said. Eighty percent of her transactions are to Brazil, followed by Mexico, then Ecuador, she said.
De Oliveira, who has worked at the location for 17 years, said many of her clients are sending money home to finance a family businesses or to pay debts.
"When they come here, they leave a lot of debts," De Oliveira said.
At Francine's Travel, co-owners Francine Melo and Nathalia Canet said they remit more than $80,000 a month to Brazil alone.
"People make three, four deposits a day sometimes. Some people come in here and send $10,000 a week," Melo said. "They don't spend their money here."
Because of this demand, bcpbank, a Portuguese bank with branches in Newark, formed an alliance with Brazil's state-owned Caixa Economica Federal to establish a remittance program, offering account-to-account transfers from the United States to Brazil. The funds deposited in the remittance account are transferred to the beneficiary's account maintained at Caixa Economica.
Bcpbank plans to use an identity card -- a so-called matricula card -- that will enable illegal immigrants to open savings or checking accounts for sending money back home. The bank will charge a 2.5 percent fee per transaction.
Pedro Belo, chief executive of bcpbank, said the Brazilian government is eager to reclaim the remittance market since much of the money is unaccounted for. Brazil reported receiving $5.27 billion in remittances in 2003. Of that number, only $2.9 billion was controlled by the Central Bank of Brazil, Belo said. That means most of the money was sent through other means -- out of the government's control.
That translates into lost revenue for the government, which charges a 3 percent tax for money that is received from abroad. It also means money falls into illegal hands on the black market.
"Half of the dollars get lost in Brazil and end up who knows where," Belo said. "That's why Brazilians are so anxious."
Carlos Viana, editorial chief of Brasilia Press, which is published in the Ironbound, said the Brazilian government has taken steps to account for remittances. Over the last few years, the government has cracked down on illegal money changers, called do leiros, which some expatriates had relied on.
"Ten years ago, there were do leiros in every corner," Viana said.
Lacerda, like many others in the area, said he uses reputable agencies such as Western Union to transfer funds instead of lesser-known outfits. He said it is critical the money arrive promptly.
"My parents depend on this money," he said.
FYI
Sorry I did not copy the section on the launch:
"Further, as a result of the increased interest and rescheduling of the technology summit, the launch date of the Stratellite prototype has also been rescheduled for March 25, 2005."
As I said I feel positive about this news as noted in my earlier post.
I know you to be a great poster and informative person for GTEL. I was floored to read your question and was not sure if you thought me to be negative. I am 100% positive on GTEL.
I have watched others on RB banty back and forth on the change from January to 1st quarter and may be sensitive to the name calling going on RB.
Today's news release said "previously scheduled for January 20 and 21, 2005, has been moved to February 20 and 21, 2005." Semantics about wording previously scheduled or delayed.
What does it matter - I tried to post a positive post on GTEL that the " change" or whatever in the dates was due to very postive results. What did I say wrong?
What do I believe?
a) I think that when the $ revenue for 4th quarter come out - they will again have increased over the 900k previously stated
b) I am not worried about whether there will be profitable results for the 4th quarter due to the key being the growth of the core busines
c) With a lot of parties interested in putting orders in for the Stratellite in various sizes for various purposes - military, domestic and commercial - the news out over the next few months will be dramatic for GTEL
I would appreciate your thoughts on the current status of GTEL and whether you are very postive and why. You usually have some pretty good insight into GTEL.
Thank you.
While the price is dropping today - I guess due to the delay in launching, I believe in Huff and GTEL and think that there is good news in this release.
All this interest means to me that there are a lot of parties interested in putting orders in for the Stratellite in various sizes for various purposes - military, domestic and commercial.
That would quickly translate into a revenue stream of orders, partnerships with large communications companies, improved bottom line on existing business (they should turn profitable)
>
> Mr. Huff continued, "We have had on-going discussions with several
> groups within the U.S. government and military concerning the rollout
> and use of the Stratellite. Further, we are in discussions with the
> other corporate and private groups, as well as foreign governments,
> who all have expressed interest in the development and commercial
> viability of the Stratellite."
This past week's Barron's focused on Comcast and in it I found the following interesting as it relates to GTEL. It shows that when GTEL gets everything together in 2005, that the competition will not be able to jump in and compete quickly.
"Rob Sanderson, an analyst with American Technology Research, asserts that while the Bells should be taken seriously, they're likely to roll out their service slowly, rather than in the next two or three years, as they hope to. "They won't have video service that can compete with cable and satellite in the timeline they've outlined. Cable and satellite have robust offerings. Consumers will have high expectations, and low tolerance for failure."
OT Any users of the Magic Phone or Magic card?
I am interested in finding out if anyone is using these - I had seen a few posts a way back on the phone but haven't seen updates.
As a investor in GTEL as well as traveling to England in 2005 I am interested if they work well and if it is worth my while to use one or the other for my trip to England.
On todays news - these pictures and this info IMHO were taken at least a week ago if not more. This allowed a little news and photos without giving all the tech specs away. Based on that - this construction is further along - and maybe we will start to get more pictures in the next week to two weeks.
rock
I agree, you can see each day there are a few trades of 250,000 and up which I have believed are just those 144's selling enough to get back their initial investment and then hold on to the rest.
I think that these sales seem to be managed pretty carefully, but still are having some effect on the SP. Any small holders who can't handle the risk may also be dropping out, or need to pay taxes, holiday gifts etc.
Otherwise, things do look steady and secure.
The Amex application and eventual listing will cause a high amount of speculation and could cause the SP to be more volatile.
Right now the market cap shows at just under $50 mill. I am wondering if the AMEX application will be affected if this ends up below that $50 mill target we have been qualified for AMEX listing under? EOM
Any info on these partners in Centerline: EQ8 LLC, EnRoute Telecom LLC, G Link Solutions LLC, Volta Communications LLC, Lonestar Communications LLC. I have not found much except for links to Volta in either russian, polish or ?.
