Looking to push competitors out of the market, BHP Billiton (NYSE:BHP) is aiming to reduce iron ore unit costs at its Western Australia operations by 21% to $16 per tonne in the 2016 financial year, down from just below $20 per tonne in April. Crude prices hit fresh 2015 highs overnight, continuing a rally that has surprised many investors almost as much as the steep sell-off that bottomed in mid-March. After gains of 20% for Brent and 25% for WTI in April, oil bulls pushed prices higher again this week, despite indications that OPEC would keep production unchanged at its meeting next month. The EIA is scheduled to issue official stockpiles data at 10:30 a.m. EST. Crude futures +2.5% at 61.89/bbl.

Railroad company CSX saw its shares fall more than 3% Monday after prominent hedge-fund investor Bill Ackman told CNBC, that he does not plan on discussing the railroad company, CSX CSX, +0.03% during his investor presentation slated for later today at the Ira Sohn conference in New York. Ackman is expected to be the final speaker at the widely followed investing conference. Followers may have been anticipating that the high-profile activist investor would pitch for consolidation in the railroad space , which may have helped pushed CSX's stock lower as investors were disappointed.
1:33 pm CSX (+4%) continues to run and outperform rails ahead of potential catalysts next week (CSX) : Eastern Class I rail CSX (CSX) continues to surge while peers (NSC, UNP, CP, CNI, KSU, GWR) lag after the group reported rather disappointing Q1 results (see our April 23 CSX post for more color).
•There is some speculation that Pershing Square's Bill Ackman may disclose a stake in CSX at the Sohn Conference -- he presents at 5:20 PM on Monday, May 4.
•At the end of last year, Ackman held 13.9 mln share of Canadian Pacific (CP), a company that approached CSX (CSX) last year but was rebuffed.
•While antitrust issues and regulatory scrutiny would be an issue for rail M&A, CSX does seem somewhat ripe for activist involvement.
•CSX is also holding its Annual Meeting Next Friday, May 8.
CSX has broken out above long term resistance at the $37 level.

CTCM- well, this isn't working out:
MOSCOW, April 30 (Reuters) - Russian broadcaster CTC Media said on Thursday its board had decided not to declare a second-quarter dividend as its net profit halved compared with the first quarter of 2014.
The company said net profit fell 54 percent in the first quarter to 511.6 million roubles ($9.94 million) while revenues decreased 25 percent to 4.9 billion roubles.
"The board decides not to declare a dividend in the second quarter to preserve the financial and strategic flexibility of the company in the current market, operational and corporate circumstances," CTC Media said in a statement.
CTC, 38 percent owned by Sweden's MTG Group, said it continued to explore potential sales to comply with a new Russian law limiting foreign ownership. Media reports suggested Rostelecom was considering buying it.
The company said it expected full-year revenues to be in line with the Russian TV advertising market, referring to analyst expectations of a 20-25 percent decline.
Revenues will also be adversely affected by the loss of sub-licensing revenues in Ukraine following the change of regulations that prohibits the screening of Russian content produced after Jan. 1, 2014, CTC said.
Its operating income before depreciation and amortisation (OIBDA) fell 74 percent to 521.7 million roubles, with its OIBDA margin sliding to 10.6 percent from 30.3 percent a year ago.
CTC said it expected the 2015 OIBDA margin to be broadly in line with the first quarter.
