"The Rambus jury is not being asked to vote guilty or innocent, as in a criminal case. Rather, it has to puzzle through such technical intricacies as the latency of double data rate synchronous dynamic random access memory.
Jurors then must apply their understanding to legal concepts such as intentional interference with prospective economic relations, using 57 pages of instructions to fill out a verdict form with 31 questions.
Nine out of 12 jurors must agree on a question, Nissly said."

Wow. No wonder, the time it is taking.......
That's some healthy growth that's expected. Hope they 'beat' so price can head towards Goldman's $54 target.
Nice statement from PSSC CEO in today's PR:
"Our computing solutions undergo an extensive and rigorous burn-in processes, to ensure that our customers receive the most reliable, highest performing systems in the industry," said Lawrence Lesser, CEO of PSSC Labs. "Our products experience field failure rate less than 0.01%. Qualification of Solid State Drives in our servers is no easy task, and PSSC Labs is proud to commercialize our products with the Deneva 2 enterprise class SSD."

Re: US Supreme Court - why did Hynix file? cert petition a non-event
To preserve its options. The petition had to filed within 90 days of the July 29 denial of rehearing. See Supreme Court Rule 13: http://www.law.cornell.edu/rules/supct/13.html
What is the likelihood the Court will grant certiorari (take the case)?
Extremely low. Overall (leaving aside :prisoner petitions") the rate is about 2%. http://www.investorvillage.com/smbd.asp?mb=3666&mn=505099&pt=msg&mid=8811375
("Virtually all of the Supreme Court's docket is discretionary, and they don't sit to correct error in trials below. They sit to decide issues of national importance.
The Court each year now takes maybe 75-80 cases out of 7500+. Even when you drop out the half or so that are "prisoner petitions" [most of which are filed pro se from behind bars, often handwritten, and which are granted less than 0.5% of the time], no more than about 2% of the cert petitions or "appeals" filed with the Court are granted.")
And the odds against the Hynix petition are even longer than average. The Court is very much less likely to take a case where the Court of Appeals decision remanded for further proceedings in the trial court, as the CAFC did here. No point in the Supreme Court spending its scarce time on a case that is still going below. There's no issue presented in this posture of the case -- and probably no issue in this case at all -- that the Supreme Court is likely to think important enough for review.
Like the large majority of cert petitions, this filing is a non-event.

Great reporting everyone....thanks. When I signed on iHub and saw 40+ messages, I thought "YES".... however, turns out the jury is a big tease !
This is disturbing.
Regarding IDCC, I have wondered many times if/how/how much Nokia (in particular) might have "influenced" certain rulings.

ARM warns Intel that the "British are Coming"
East says no more Mr Niche guy
31 Oct 2011 08:49 | by Nick Farrell in Rome | Filed in Chips ARM Smartphone
ARM boss Warren East claims that Intel is doomed to become a niche player in the future because it has not capitalised on the mobile arena fast enough.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, East said that despite the fact that Intel's revenues are more than 100 times greater than ARM , the fact that more people want mobile devices has sentenced Chipzilla to being a baby lizard in the future.
East insists it is not the size of your portfolio that counts, but how you use it. In terms of influence, ARM is the most influential microchip firm in the world, East claimed.
While Intel dominates the market for microchips in PCs, that sector is so 1990s and stagnant compared to that for smartphones and tablets. In the West everyone who wants a PC has one while Tablets and Smartphone use is growing.
East says that Intel has been successful in what is becoming a niche market and it has been unable to break the British mobile computing stranglehold. ARM is also ahead in the growing market for "embedded systems".
Of course, East is all excited about the ARM Cortex-A15, expected to be used in forthcoming "superphones" from Apple, Samsung and their rivals. He thinks that this chip is powerful enough to step on Intel's niche and cause all sorts of problems.East seems to be wanting to send out a message to all those who failed to pay their tea tax over the pond. Following the somewhat stupid purchase of Autonomy last year, ARM is the last British technology outfit of any significance. East warned Intel that the British are coming and this time the French will not be around to bail them out.

A post from IV
Why was it necessary for IDCC to "hire" 2 investment bankers for the sale of a relatively smaller cap company?
Did this have anything to do with the Convertible Bond Issue with warrants attached? I realize that put protection was purchased by Interdigital (they paid for it)......does this prohibit Barclays from selling calls at any time to protect and leverage their holdings? Weren't the premiums SO HIGH that I, along with others, commented on exactly how high they were.....
It's "too bad" that option hedges are not reported along with long positions in both stock and convertible bonds (bonds are normally exempt, I think).....
Does anyone here think that one of the major investment bankers on the street could not have done this deal.....Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan??? My thinking is that IDCC got captured, especially with Barclays....
Evercore (politically connected) and the CAFC.....something stinks....

OT hock and huibs: I watched this interview on Bloomberg tv (leagues ahead of cnbc for reporting, imo) It reinforces that those who benefit from high frequency trading and elimination of the uptick rule will simply continue to lobby and pay huge $$$$ to politicians such that the SEC will remain basically neutered, turning a blind eye to its duties to the public.

The Motley Fool clip: "Having gone all in on solid-state drives, Ocz Technology effectively doubled down by buying the systems-on-a-chip design team from PLX Technology along with a perpetual patent license. Ocz also raised full year revenue guidance. Earlier this year, Ocz bought solid-state drive controller design company Indilinx, which taken together gives Ocz a complete technical base and IP portfolio to take on Western Digital (NYSE: WDC ) and Seagate Technology.
Seagate got its own boost after competitor Western Digital reported that flooding in Thailand shut down its manufacturing operations there and it would take at least several quarters to dry out. Seagate, which also has Thai manufacturing facilities, didn't get swamped like its rival, but it did warn it could face parts shortages as a result of the floods.
It's expected that computer makers like Dell (Nasdaq: DELL ) could get hurt as a result of the floods, as IHS iSuppli estimates disk drive output could tumble as much as 30%.
That presents an opportunity for Ocz, though it might not be as large as it appears on the surface. HDD customers aren't going to suddenly flood the solid-state drive market en masse because of a shortage, but it could represent an incremental change that boosts Ocz's long-term outlook."

Microsoft’s New Patent Agreement with Compal: A New Milestone for Our Android Licensing Program
23 Oct 2011 7:00 AM
(this is a good link....biased, obviously, toward Microsoft but always interesting.)
http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsoft_on_the_issues/archive/2011/10/23/microsoft-s-new-patent-agreement-with-compal-a-new-milestone-for-our-android-licensing-program.aspx
"Today’s announcement marks Microsoft's ninth Android agreement in the last four months. More important, today’s announcement means that companies accounting for over half of all Android devices have now entered into patent license agreements with Microsoft."
Patents emerge as significant tech strategy.
Microsoft's recent spate of patent agreements and battles highlights how technology companies' patent practices have evolved from using them to defend their own inventions to deploying them as a significant part of competitive strategies in the fast-growing mobile market.

"InterDigital develops fundamental wireless technologies that are at the core of mobile devices, networks and services worldwide. As a long-standing contributor to the evolution of the wireless industry, the company solves many of the industry’s most critical and complex technical challenges years ahead of market deployment. InterDigital has established licenses and strategic relationships with leading wireless companies. As part of its extensive university relations program, InterDigital established a broad-ranging collaboration with NYU-Poly. The company has provided research funding; is a member of both the Center for Advanced Technology in Telecommunications and the Wireless Internet Center for Advanced Technology; donated equipment in support of wireless and bioengineering research, and supported NYU-Poly’s Cyber Security Awareness Week."

gee, maybe the analysts should have paid attention to what the company had to say:
By Tiernan Ray
Apple (AAPL) this afternoon reported fiscal Q4 revenue and profit below analysts’ expectations.
Revenue in the three months ended in September rose to $28.27 billion, yielding EPS of $7.05.
Analysts had been modeling $29.69 billion in revenue and $7.39 per share in profit.
Apple’s own forecast, offered back in mid-July, was for revenue of $25 billion and EPS of $5.50.

This is exciting....it's got to be decision time, eh?
On Oct 14th I made a suggestion that this IDCC board should shut down until the BOD has their announcement of the result of the various alternatives they are exploring. The post was deleted, maybe lasted a couple minutes, yet I have seen the same suggestion on other IDCC boards.
Guess when IDCC ranks high in "IHub posts read" or " most active boards" that it is obviously a board IHub wants to keep. What a horrible disservice to the years jimlur and others put in to educate investors.
Hi revlis..not sure why you wrote this to me...?
Last month when GTT was erroneously quoted about IDCC patent portfolio I am guessing it was then that they decided to do "a study". I don't think any outside company commissioned a study, but rather GTT is simply trying to peddle it via their subscription, which someone reported is available at half price. So, the report must be only half as good as they planned, lol...

I think perhaps it is.....The last time security went to jury room and came out with a piece of paper it was tweeted as another request or a question. MAYBE it was saying they have a verdict, and that's why they're all now waiting for McBride.
