Good Day Stock Lobster. I have been out the whole day - must enjoy these beautiful weathers here as long as possible. +10 degrees Celcius (ca 50 F) are extraordinary here in October :)
Thank you very much for setting up the shipping board, and especially for the Ibox. Looks good!! Now we can gather information and news of tankers and bulkers in one place, where those interested can go and look. Tanker and bulker fans (and dividend lovers!) will no doubt be glad.
It may take time before shipping fan iHubbers find the board, but no problem. I appreciate it as a "shipping data bank", where the finders will find useful information any time.
Thanks, Stock Lobster. Beginning to sharp my pencil.. (but apologies - almost exhausted after a VERY hard match... those bloody %## goofers won our foursome play. Can't still understand that...lol)
Stock Lobster. Time difference is working, must go to sleep. Send me a PM if you want to advise me about the Tanker-board.
Good Night to you all.
I think the dollar/euro will peak at $1.50 but then quickly recover. Europe cannot stand Euro to stay this high long time, and the rate hiking and lowering is a big problem. There are countries now in so different levels of development that a common rate to all is unsustainable. It creates already now disagreement between the countries. The European Council has very difficult to get the nations to agree about any bigger achievements.
Dollar is and will be the global currency. All commodities are priced in dollar - could not think about any change to that. And the financial industry - in major of transactions dollar is the other part. There is no other currency big enough to handle all this. By letting dollar fall too much, all these players are shooting their own foot. I think the central bankers will do all they can to stabilize the dollar and keep it as the global currency, which is absolutely needed. Can't think that gold is priced in 10 different currencies.
Excellent! I'll be glad to help you where I can. Do you think it should be restricted only for tankers and dry bulk ships or could we take the whole marine industry, including offshore drilling and services too?
SL You are right. Many times it is easier to figure problems and things from a distance than living in the middle of them. See the woods from the trees. You are lucky to have that place in NS, where you can retire to "think".
I'd be glad to contribute to a Tanker-board if there will be one.
But somebody must put it up - I don't know how to post pictures to i-box for example - and then there is this time difference. I go to sleep when you start discussing, and you go to sleep when I wake up - lol.
I know you are so busy already with this board, but I could think that a message board discussing shipping would not need much monitoring. However, I do not know the practice of keeping up an iHub board.
I'm no expert of shipping, but have followed the sector a long long time, and almost all my long term investments are in marine industry. I can at least advise where to look for information in shipping industry, if somebody is interested.
Hello Wildbill. All is well.. so to say. Nice, sunny autumn weather today, I was playing golf. That is not usual this time of year here. In Lapland there is snow already - 1000 km north from Helsinki. Must put snow tyres in my car.
Fine pictures in your earlier post, Stock Lobster. Lucky you! Isn't it great to follow the seasons of the year living self in the middle of the nature. It is not the same in a city, not even in a small town as it is in the rural coyntryside.
Do you have more pictures? Please post them if you have.
Are you going to stay the winter in NS?
GE Stock Lobster. The Europeans have been more concerned about Euro strengthening towards Yen, all we try to sell to China is priced in Euros, and Japans sell much of the same things.
Weak dollar is good for us, when we get our oil cheaper. But of course, especially our forest and paper industry suffers: costs and raw materials in Euros, revenues in Dollars.
BQI Oilsands Quest Annual Meeting October 17, 2007. The company did not get the expected final drilling results from Norwest Labs due to congested laboratories full with oilsand samples from the whole Athabasca area. The results will be available "soon".

BQI is having its Annual Shareholder Meeting today in Calgary at 3.00 Mountain time. Is that after market closing time??
In that case the press release will come out tomorrow morning. They should inform the official results of last winter drilling (150 holes) of Axe Lake Discovery area (= 1 township of their ca 30 townships exploration area)
Here are the management's predicts:
Axe Lake Discovery area: Management's estimate of OBIP for Axe Lake is 1.4 to 1.5 billion
barrels and its estimate of additional resource potential for Axe Lake is 0.7 to 1.3 billion
barrels, for a total potential bitumen resource of 2.1 to 2.8 billion barrels. (This total estimate
has been rounded to 2.5 billion barrels for ease of reference). The independent consultant’s
estimate of OBIP for the Axe Lake Discovery will be completed in the fall of 2007.
Good Morning Stuffit. It seems the oil price will stay high and go higher. I red an article (can't find the link now) which said that oil production has already shrinked because Venezuela and Russia have chased out big oil companies, which were the only ones to be able to produce significant amounts of oil in those countries. It also said that OPEC has no power over its member countries any more - members produce what they want or do not produce if they want.
GM. Short story of Calpine (CPNLQ.PK $1.72).
A power plant company with massive assets, which produces electricity with natural gas and geothermal systems could be worth keeping an eye on at these prices. Calpine has rejected outside offers, and claims to pay its debts with its own plants!!
It should come out of bankruptcy in January 2008, but there is still at least one shareholder voting to execute, with deadline November 30. The company is slated to seek court confirmation of its reorganization plan Dec. 18.
The stockprice has been climbing lately little by little.
New Power Play at Calpine
By Mark DeCambre

"Even in bankruptcy, Calpine (CPNLQ - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr) continues to spark intense interest.
About 10 potential investors, including a veritable who's who of private-equity heavyweights, are in the running to take equity stakes in the restructuring power company, TheStreet.com has learned.
Calpine, which rang up some $23 billion in debt in acquiring the nation's largest fleet of natural gas-fired plants before faltering into Chapter 11 more than a year ago, has been soliciting bids in an effort to re-emerge by year-end.
Firms asked to submit offers include the Carlyle Group, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, TPG Capital, the Blackstone Group and Hellman & Friedman. Equity Capital Partners, a private energy investment firm run by former Goldman Sachs (GS - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr) executives, also is part of the roster. "
Calpine filed for bankruptcy in December 2005 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The bankruptcy process is turning into a much smoother one than operating ever was for Calpine. It made a practice of loading up on debt to develop added plants even before existing ones were running sufficiently to service its loans.
Founded by Peter Cartwright, Calpine ran into financial troubles along with many independent power producers when Enron collapsed in 2001. But many observers blame Calpine's woes largely on former CFO Bob Kelly, who agitated creditors by layering on debt even as Calpine was on the brink.
Its largest secured creditor, Wilmington Trust, has at least $3.4 billion in secured claims and more than $4.6 billion in unsecured claims, according to court documents."

Calpine Rejects Private Equity
By Mark DeCambre
TheStreet.com Senior Writer
6/7/2007 5:20 PM EDT
"Calpine (CPNLQ - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr) is going it alone.
The bankrupt independent power producer has opted to reject financing offers from private equity firms seeking a stake in a post-Chapter 11 entity, TheSteet.com has learned.
Instead, Calpine, which is due to file a plan of reorganization on June 20, is banking on the rising value of its clean power assets."
"Moreover, Calpine boasts a relatively green power fleet at a time when many companies are trying to burn cleaner fuel and cut dependence on foreign sources. Its fleet runs on natural gas, viewed as much cleaner than coal-belching generators, which will become more expensive to run with a carbon tax credit plan on deck.
Calpine also has an array of geothermal plants, which it is expanding, in Northern California. Those renewable energy plants, known as the Geysers, are considered Calpine's crown jewel because it produces energy from steam, which costs nothing."
"Calpine turned down an unsolicited offer from hedge fund Harbinger Capital and energy-focused private equity outfit LS Power, which sought to commit some $1.8 billion in capital in exchange for rights that would have converted their claims into a 95% stake in the energy company."
"Calpine's reorganization plan still needs to be approved by the bankruptcy court and could yet meet resistance from other creditors. Expectations are that the company will emerge sometime in January, an official said."

A-ha. That's it. I have heard that Iraq is not selling much oil because of the troubles in its northern fields. The local Kurdistan governement and the central Baghdad governement are arguing who owns what, and the oil companies sit and wait.
Damn it. At the pump gasolin costs here (in Finland) €1.35 = $0.95 per liter. What's the price now in USA?
Oil $86.10!! What's driving it? Any news??
Thanks Timmage, BigT and Wildbill. You all helped.
I guess for pinksheet companies there is no information about shareholders available :(
Does any of an OTCBB company's SEC filings show the main shareholders of the company? Or any other public document/website?
Thanks Wildbill. Apparently "Enron the Second" -case - an energy selling company having $22 billion debt! Hoyah!
Do you know any website, where you can see the major shareholders of a company in USA, e.g. Calpine??
Wildbill - or anybody. Do you know anything about the energy company Calpine Corp.? I know it was a big company and went bankrupt. Do you know what happened? I looked it is trading, now at $ 1.68.
FYI: Warren Buffett Likes Alberta's Oil Sands As An Investment

Warren Buffett Likes Alberta's Oil Sands As An Investment
Bad news for the Alberta oil sector doom and gloom propagandists - and it is coming from Warren Buffett. Buffett says he had spent time avoiding the oil sands as an investment. On Thursday in Toronto he told an international audience of 140 prominent investors from all over the globe he has changed his mind.
The Toronto Star story gives his reasons as follows:
"Buffett, who has made substantial resource investments this decade, after a history of avoiding them, is now interested in the Alberta oil sands. His rationale is that it is a known resource, says Hull, who manages money for clients of Berkshire Securities Inc., recently acquired by Manulife Financial Corp.
In contrast to speculative drilling, oil-sands projects are mining operations where the size of the reserves is known. One can calculate with relative certainty the breakeven requirements over 10 years. And production costs tend to drop as the extraction and processing technology improves. "
For those who say they are going to be pulling out of their oil sands related investment in Alberta because of the royalty review - call Buffett - he is coming into the market. As an Albertan I would welcome him.
For those of you who will be leaving us, presuming you were not scaremongering or merely pulling our legs - good bye. I presume you will be considering transferring your efforts to Venezuela's oil sands. The weather is nice there even if the political and investmate climate is not. But it is a free country - at least in Canada...so do as you wish.

BQI. What was also positive news was the appointment of an expert of the in-situ SAGD extraction method to their board, Mr. John Read.
"We are privileged to have John join our board," said T. Murray Wilson, Executive Chairman of Oilsands Quest. "In addition to his exceptional experience with Colt, which includes major oil sands projects, John has been a director of the Alberta Chamber of Resources and the Bi-Provincial Upgrader. His knowledge and experience with large-scale in-situ projects will be extremely beneficial to Oilsands Quest."
This bodes well for the beginning the bitumen production (but not in a very near future).
BQI $4.80 has been tiptoeing upwards. They should get the official estimate by Norwest about their last winter drilling results (OBIP) soon. The management's estimate was 1.5 billion barrels of bitumen from that part of Axe Lake resources.
BQI has a shareholder meeting on Oct 17th, so they may anoounce the numbers there.

I think he does. He knows well that he may be left without lunch and dinner if he doesn't call 911 if needed ...lol
Have a nice day SL!
Let's not worry. He seems to be on the driver's seat already :)
I mean if something happens to you. Can Harvey call the doctor?
GM Stuffit. Me too worry sometimes his unbelievable workload.
And thank you for your work and all the time you dedicate to the board (if I have not told you it before :) Take care, you too.
GM Stock Lobster. Take care of yourself. We have Stuffit, Wildbill, Kidstockster and many many more, who can help you and the boardmembers.
Do you have nearby neighbours there in NS?
GTEC. An excerpt from the Letter to Shareholders (read it, it's good info about the merge):
http://www.genesis-china.net/
"On July 1, 2007, the CSRS, China's equivalent to the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, imposed Regulation No. 106, which ostensibly required new and complicated government approvals on any mergers with U.S. public companies. This regulation apparently has been viewed, by U.S. financial experts, as a serious obstacle in completing such mergers, as the Chinese government has a history of acting unevenly and slowly in granting such approvals. Yet, when confronted with the challenge and with Mr. Cao's leadership, LJPC became only the second company in the entire country to obtain "Regulation No. 106 approval", and thus joined an elite group to complete a merger in the U.S."
What's this?? Who's the other company? Don't we see these US shell-Chinese company merge-news every second day on the news?
Must look which are intentions and which have really come true.
GTEC. A post from Village Investors. AOB is now at $12.33, CPHI.OB at $3.33 and GTEC.OB at $0.31.
- - -
We can use other chinese pharmaceuticals as comparison, here's the numbers for 3 of them (note we'll use the worst case of 400 mil shares for GTEC to calculate PE):
---------------------------------------------
Company = American Oriental Bio
Symbol = AOB
PE = 23.3
Growth Rate = 49%
Trading at 7.2x sales
Exchange History = OTC BB, then AMEX, now NYSE
----------------------------------------------
Company = China Pharma
Symbol = CPHI.ob
PE = 12.05
Growth Rate = 116%
Trading at 3.5x sales
Exchange History = OTC BB
----------------------------------------------
Company = Genesis Pharmaceutical
Symbol = GTEC.ob
PE = 6.2
Growth Rate = 187%
Trading at 1.8x sales
Exchange History = OTC BB
----------------------------------------------
one can say that being in a major exchange like the AMEX or NYSE has its privileges and therefore AOB trades at a substantially higher valuation than CPHI.ob or GTEC.ob. However when we compare CPHI.ob to GTEC.ob we find there's a huge disparity even between these 2 OTC BB stocks.
CPHI.ob is valued at twice the value of GTEC.ob when we just look at their Sales and PEs! But there are other factors why GTEC should trade a lot higher than CPHI:
Cash
GTEC = $17.5 Million.
CPHI = $2.4 Million.
Sales
GTEC = $76 Million.
CPHI = $28 Million.
Growth Rate
GTEC = 187%
CPHI = 116%
Earnings Growth
GTEC = 748%
CPHI = 82%
GTEC beats CPHI hands down in every category; GTEC has tons more Cash, is 3x larger than CPHI, is growing faster in both sales and especially earnings. In addition, GTEC owns other companies like Golden Horse, Lotus and others.
GTEC may never get to an AOB valuation until GTEC joins a major exchange, but based on all the numbers above, GTEC should be trading at a substantially higher valuation than CPHI right now!
Just how much higher we can discuss later, but let's just say GTEC should be trading at at least CPHI's valuation or in other words GTEC should be trading at 68 cents right now.
No, I don't know now. A couple of years ago I played SPN $33.51 Superior Energy Services, when it run from $6 to $12, but have not followed Taiwan stocks since then. Some say they are safer long term investments in Asia. Might be worth looking.
You don't say you don't even like Chinese food - grilled swallow nests with cooked sheep's eyes..?? lollol
Have you been looking any Taiwanese companies?
Lol. Made in Hurry...
Hello Stuffit. FYI: "The Coming Boom for China’s Generic Drug Industry"
The companies mentioned in the article are not listed in USA (me thinks), but there are certainly generic drug makers among the listed Chinese drug companies.
China Medicine Corp. (CHME.OB $3.80) said in its PR that they are manufacturing also generic drugs.
http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2007/10/09/the-coming-boom-for-chinas-generic-drug-industry/
I don't like his candidacy either because our former President Mr. Ahtisaari is also a candidate :)
There is a list of 181 candidates this year ( among others U2's Bono, Bolivian President Evo Morales and Chinese dissident Kadeer), so the result is not so clear!
The list of candidates of Peace Prize is a mixed collection of most various kinds of people, year after year. Not an easy task for the Nobel Committee.
Al Gore is a candidate for Nobel Peace Price. The winner will be announced tomorrow. Economics on Monday.
The Nober Prize Awarding procedure is a long, long tradition (since 1901) and very much appreciated in Scandinavia. Once the prize winners have been announced, they start to have interviews and roundtable discussions, which are broadcasted to the public. The discussions are very popular and interesting to follow, because they speak clear language to the TV-watchers and explain, what their discoveries really are and what they can mean for the ordinary people.
Good Morning Stuffit. TOPT was also a dividend distributor a couple of years ago.
BUT NOTE: they say that those bulkers (3 panamax were bought in August) will begin to add earnings in 2008. So apparently no dividends yet : (
TOPT. Tankerfans, the 3Q results publishing period is approaching. TOPT may also be a surpriser, they bought dry bulk ships too. Must check how many of those have been already working for TOPT.
ANW (a harbor bunker) has risen strongly in last weeks, but they may have good reasons for that. Dividend lovers, watch out!
GTEC. I like that too as a Chinese company. I did some reading of their PR releases and SEC filings, and if all is true (can they fool SEC??) GTEC is a potential ten bagger. As I said I am quite astonished that with 5 drugs you can reach $75 million yearly revenues, but in China that can very well be possible.
Thanks Eagle. There you see! No problem if they do not discover new drugs. With five they get $22 mill yearly net income. Not bad for a 0.27 company.
Wildbill. CHME has done well today. For your list: another profitable Chinese drug company is GTEC.OB $0.27, a recent merge of Genesis Technology and Laiyang Jiangbo Pharmaceuticals. Net profits for the fiscal year 2007 $22 mill, sales $72 mill. Profit margins in drug business are usually good.
This is a quite young research and production company, and they have now ca 30 drugs in sales. Main part of the income in fiscal year 2007 (ended in June 2007) has come from 5 drugs.
I say if they gather $72 mill. in a year by selling five drugs, it tells about the vast market for drugs in China. No wonder with 2 billion (or so) people.
