Inflation: Consumer prices likely moderated for a second-straight
month in August
The bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August is set for release at 8:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, and is expected to show prices last month rose 8.1% over the prior year, according to estimates from Bloomberg.
From July to August, prices are expected to have declined 0.1%. If realized, this would mark the first monthly decline since May 2020.

Oracle (ORCL) Q1 2023 Earnings: what to expect
Down 14% year to date and 17% over the past year, the risk-versus-reward in Oracle (ORCL) has become more favorable, according to John DiFucci analyst at Guggenheim who initiated coverage on the stock with a Buy rating and a $107 price target.
Currently trading at around $76 per share, that price target calls for close to 40% upside. Amid the recent market correction and the punishment in software stocks, Oracle has lost 30% of its value in nine months. And this is despite the company's consistent execution each quarter. So now might be a good opportunity to buy on the dip. The database and cloud giant Oracle will report first quarter fiscal 2023 earnings results after the closing bell Monday.
Ahead of its earnings report, the company has seen revenue estimates revised upward 16 times, with zero downward revisions. There continues to be increased confidence that not only can Oracle reaccelerate revenue growth in fiscal 2023, it can also grow above pre-pandemic levels for a sustained period of times. The company could experience "years of hypergrowth by migrating existing Oracle on-premise mission-critical workloads," noted DiFucci.
To justify the $107 price target, the analyst also added that any further penetration Oracle experiences in a broader market would be seen as "an added benefit.” Part of the thesis has to do with the fact that the global cloud computing market size is forecasted to grow some 16% in the next four year, rising from $445 billion in 2021 to $947.3 billion by 2026. Seen as a transformation play towards a cloud subscription-based model, Oracle on Monday must demonstrate how it can become a future global cloud leader.

Alarm Bells Sound as World's Second Largest Appliance Company
Reports Demand Pluge
>ELECTROLUX AB<
The second-largest home appliances manufacturer after Whirlpool said, "market demand for core appliances in Europe and the US so far in the third quarter is estimated to have decreased at a significantly accelerated pace compared with the second quarter, driven by the impact of high inflation on consumer durables purchases and low consumer confidence."
High retailer inventories have amplified the impact of the slowdown in consumer
demand.

US Railroads Enact "Contingent Plans", "preparing for labor strike as
Union talks fail"
BY TYLER DURDEN
MONDAY, SEP 12, 2022 - 08:45 AM
Railroads and labor unions worked through the weekend to make a deal. There were little signs of progress, and rail companies are now taking steps Monday to secure shipments of hazardous and security-sensitive materials "in light of the possibility of a rail labor strike," the Association of American Railroads (AAR) wrote in a statement.
On Sunday, Norfolk Southern released a statement detailing it had "begun enacting its contingency plans for a controlled shut down of our network at 00:01 on Friday, Sept. 16." The railroad said two labor unions are holding out on new contracts, "we still do not have a commitment not to strike and must act accordingly," adding, "Our goal is to ensure that in the event of a work stoppage, crews, equipment, and freight safely reach their destinations with minimal disruption."
Union Pacific and CSX also announced contingency plans for a possible work stoppage. BNSF told customers to call Congress so lawmakers on Capitol Hill can "intervene to prevent or quickly resolve the service disruption" if a labor strike materializes on Friday. The railroad also said: "We will begin to take steps to manage and secure the shipments of hazardous and security-sensitive materials as early as Monday."

Funds brace for smaller U.S. corn crop ahead of USDA forecast
Since late July, speculators have been preparing for a scenario where the U.S. corn harvest falls short of original expectations, potentially to a significant degree.
In the four-session week ended Sept. 6, money managers were net buyers of Chicago corn futures and options for a sixth consecutive week, increasing their net long by about 5,000 to 226,479 contracts.
Over the latest six weeks, the managed money corn net long expanded by 105,691 contracts, equivalent to 528 million bushels, and most-active CBOT futures jumped 13%. They drifted more than 1% higher in the latest three sessions ahead of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Monday report.
