My completely uneducated guess (and I can only stress that it is a pure guess based on other stocks where shorts were active in) is that on the day of earnings the shorts will immediately after, independent of how earnings will look like, hit the sp with a few strategically placed immediate sell orders to make it look to us 'stupid folks' as if there was a disappointment from the earnings (earnings anyway right now meaning literally nothing, as its a growth company AND reports without main channel Overland right now and might anyway turn out great, but anyway, since there is no analyst expectations shorts might try to create the perceiption of disappointment), so with a desperate short just and running out of tactics just guessing here... So, if u see a few odd immediate sales orders right after earnings, dont be surprised...its what every short/manipulator would do...it will be VERY short lived but could be what streamingeagle means (am also prepared and standing by)... just taking a stab in the dark here...
Since the fundamenals are on our side, the short can only play with perceiptions...
Very smart way to look at it...
I agree, also management quite honestly (with all due respect) should have made us all feel publicly that news could be coming any day. That contrary public perceiption here right now hurts us as otherwise the shorts would fear that the merger could be completed any day! To the contrary right now, the shorts (for right now) have the great luxury of waiting comfortably to cover, while sleeping tight (these very) days...
I highly suggest for esteemed people here (and our highly regarded management) to read up on 'game theory' an entire economic field purely devoted to the study of logical moves by different players in 'an economic game'.
For the shorts now to take their sweet time in covering (these very) days is just a very logical move based on the cards they got publicly confirmed/ handed...
I agree with you and Pepsi (and many others). While we are all excited about Sphere and where it is going, we need to also allow:
- THEM (if we wouldnt believe in management, we wouldnt have invested in the first place)
and
- TIME (none of us really thought this was a quick in and out multibagger, if you believe in them, please proceed to expedia to book your ticket to Las Vegas)
Do their job!
Meanwhile, enjoy this and many other weekends in between. Stay away from margin buying on a low volume stock. Cherish the times when we get some some more personal income and get the opportunity to buy more while the shorts allow us to. Share info, but not always the same message.
For fun, why not start some cool series this weekend?:
Breaking Bad
House of Cards
Silicon Valley
Game of Thrones
Californication
Hello Ladies
All great intelligent series (among many others), to keep us entertained until we get there...
Weekend lesson learned from a $30k order yesterday and today: So I just wanted to pick up a few thousand Sphere shares after having gone in detail over the encouraging update from Overland on Monday and the initial hype abated (people here for obvious reasons seemed to focus on the stock price after Monday rather than the business itself; essentially that 'bleeding' Overland we married according to the shorts, is actually developing rather nicely ). So then yesterday afternoon after looking at ANY's very low volume, and seeing that Overland's update seemed to already have been quickly forgotten, I thought lets buy a few Overland - although hillariously sometimes because of the unavailibility of ANY shares trades- OVRL trades at a premium!. How ironic! So after raising the OVRL limit order three times over yesterday and today, you can see that the remains of my 10k Overland order was finally being filled again at $33, but terribly, terribly slow being filled! Certainly no panic selling here I was also very happy to see. And certainly no big hitting short at this level, when even a less than 10k shareblock took it nearly all day to churn through with bids occasionally coming in a few cents above to outstage me...so I decided to go to the cinema instead of watching an order getting filled on average around 500 or so shares every 15 minutes as it is like watching paint dry! And yet, how funny, as soon as I come back from the movies I see that my block was finally out of the way, and the short managed to surprise hit OVRL down all the way to $2.98 a few minutes thereafter! What a joke!
All this to say: 1) there definitely (to the pain of the short) is no panic selling here (at least not anymore, this is one tightly held stock)! 2) If I can stop the short in its tracks for nearly a full trading day with just the remains of a 10k order, boy, then I have to conclude the short seems to be essentially out of breath to fight on meaningfully at this level. 3) The only thing he can still afford are little 'shock and awe' surprise attacks here and there...that's irritating and annoying yes, I agree, but as an analogy, its like a little kid pulling our pants to go into one direction, it may be terribly annoying, but really is just up to us where to go from here...
Nice, thanks for your support! We are all pulling in the same direction! Surely this will not be ignored...
Just sent it to PT, along with:
Later on we can be listed also in London, Frankfurt and Hong Kong...for now let's focus on growing our volume on Nasdaq!
Please also stress to PT, apart from the naked shorting issue, obviously being listed on only one exchange (Nasdaq) also increases volume as all trading shifts to that. Dual or even more listings make sense if you are a Microsoft, but not (yet at least) for Sphere. No need to split our already low Sphere volume accross two exchanges! Its painfully (s)low.
Let's face it many institutional investors or even just large private investors will be completely put off by a stock only trading a few ten thousand shares a day on each exchange. Let's at least combine that volume!
Hi JB,
If you don't mind please kindly (as you did so professionally before) add to your sticky post with the updated DD articles the two following excellent links provided by Timorr before they get lost in the great information flow here:
1) Link from post No. 9407 on Dell DRIVE collaboration:
http://en.community.dell.com/dell-blogs/direct2dell/b/direct2dell/archive/2014/08/04/drive-lets-customers-test-emr-without-disrupting-clinical-environment.aspx
As that link goes directly to content on dell.com, I believe it is not only informative, but also incredibly useful for credibility as in here is the reference directly to content from Dell's website!
Moreover, the picture there contains various members of the Sphere 3D team (Peter T., Peter B., John Morelli and Stoney Hall) with the Dell DRIVE team showing how closely Sphere is working with Dell on Dell DRIVE!
To make our lives easier, Giovanny already highlighted some nice parts from that in his post number 9409.
2) Link to Briformum Presentation by Sphere from post 9483:
http://www.brianmadden.com/blogs/videos/archive/2014/07/31/briforum-2014-boston-sponsor-showcase-devolutions-nutanix-fslogix-amp-sphere3d.aspx?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Please kindly include a reference to the start of Sphere's presentation at the 30:44 minute mark.
This collection of articles and links is quickly becoming an excellent one stop shop for anybody (even the shorts eventually;)) doing DD on Sphere. For that again many thanks for your kind efforts on behalf of all of us!
Very true and sound logic. Well said! eom
Done. Hope our mails don't just go into the junk mail folder, anybody close to him please ask him to check the same as well. Thanks!
Nice, today was important! Nice weekend everybody! eom
I was/still am in KNDI as well, look at the 3-5 year chart, and the volatility and the short attacks. They were actually more brutal than here, one day 30% got wiped out in a day! Just on a freakin' short article! But those that stood steadfast, and re-read the DD they did, well....made quite a bit of money as you can see from the chart.
I remember once I posted there in dire times: At the end fundamentals always prevail!
And boy that turned out so for many who did hold on...to a very nice multibagger!
The ride was very volatile and unnerving at times, yes, but it would have taken a few lifetimes to get that kind of return with treasuries. Admittedly, be prepared already, once you will make money on a multibagger, people will tell you, lucky you! Little to do with luck you will think and will smile at them, much more to do with due dilligence, preseverance, stubborness and yes the occassional sleepless night.
As they say: No pain no gain!
That applies unfortunately to all areas in life, even to the stockmarket ;)
Guys, do you really think that with all the things the gents here know and have been following, that you are going to create panic by throwing around ridiculous figures? $4 no guarantee, oh no no, better, let's mention $2! Clever we are
I mean if you have a technical analysis that you want to share, great, but just throwing out numbers hoping that people here will panic so that you get a nice trade out of it is obnoxious (among other less kind things) to the quality and intelligence of other posters here...
Boys will be boys...
Nops, same story here on Overland, been having trouble buying Overland, just look in the afternoon how little trades there were today...market makers definitely enjoying making us go through this ride..well same as we are partly to blame (meaning even the cautios small buyers) as everybody here is obviously adjusting down their bids every day as it seems...
Anyway, today overall market was super ugly, at least we are not completely alone in our misery today ;)
For a change, I agree with mensplus that this volume implies that somebody has been liquidating, albeit the selling could be a mix like 50% that somebody(s), 30% shorts riding the monentum and 20% panic/fear/weak hand/margin call sellers being dragged out...
That scenario, however, fortunately also implies that once that somebody(s) is done liquidating, in that example, first 50% of sales a day suddenly stop, leading to first a flatlining sp, leading to another 20% selling stopping (the panic/margin call sellers stopping in this scenario), which would lead to a sudden reversal as even then the shorts can't then ride the down momentum any longer..
When will that point be reached? No clue, BUT once it ends, we will reverse rather sharply..
Overland Enters Into Strategic Partnership With BDT and Settles Patent Lawsuit
"SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 30, 2014) - Overland Storage, Inc. (NASDAQ: OVRL), a trusted global provider of unified data management and protection solutions across the data lifecycle, today announced that it has settled all claims in its patent infringement litigation filed against BDT Media Automation GmbH. As part of the settlement agreement, Overland Storage has entered into a patent cross-license agreement with BDT Media Automation GmbH and a strategic investment in Overland Storage by BDT."
On their strategic investment, obviously BDT is in the eyes of the shorts another stupid IT company with no idea about IT being duped into investing into in effect Sphere 3D...
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/overland-storage-r-enters-strategic-132048388.html
Thanks Scott!! Awesome and wise! eom
I hope Scott reads that as I actually fully agree, as a HTFBS subscriber myself as well, I had put back a little money specifically to invest in the "newbie" when it comes out, but that pocket is currently being used (as I guess many other HTFBS subscribers do) to nibble here and there at Sphere at these bargain basement prices...
So yes, I hope HTFBS follows your logical strategy. Apart from liquidity or lack thereof, it would give people a whole lot more confidence to invest in the newbie in better times (though I know Spiffy did very well), but not all subscribers were there when the initial coverage by HTFBS started, many subscribers joined later on...
Also, as a third argument releasing a new pick before Spiffy gets to strength and exposure by itself, would mean people maybe selling right into the downdraft of the "oldie" to fund purchases of the "newbie" thereby making the problem for the "oldie" even harder and playing right into the hands of the shorts.
As I think these three key arguments (1) lack of liquidity, 2) only temporarily affected very strong but likely sub-peak confidence in HTFBS and 3) potential selling of oldies' shares to fund newbie purchases) make a lot of sense, I hope Scott reads them and gives them due consideration for his timing of the release of his "newbie"...
Timing, generally in life, and especially in investing, is everything...
Don't get discouraged by that (the SP today). While it was an important update to gain more confidence among us, it at the same time didn't include new deals or developments we didnt know about so, hence, the seemingly limited reaction, as it was more of a reassuring recap of recent developments than a big tangible update/ announcement of a new deal we didnt know about.
While a 70% revenue rise (we are talking Quarter on Quarter here people!) is by ALL corporate measures simply incredible, as we are long termers we are even looking beyond that at this point. More deal, validation and development announcements will come (shortly and plentiful I believe), and those will make a HUGE difference in SP.
For now the message was just a polite and comforting: "Rest assured...we are on the right track.."
Look what I just dug up in the vastness of the internet, a presentation that they (from Overland's side) had put tohether, as the filename implies at the beginning of this month...
Though it literally is french at times, it pretty much explains Sphere 3D, Overland and V3 in a nutshell... enjoy...

Funny and pretty much capturing the big picture...thx for the chuckle..
Nice, that's an excellent track record for our future CEO! If he is/was able to turn around Overland, imagine what he can do for Sphere!
New hire's LinkedIn profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nileshpatel2014?_mSplash=1
New appointment just out from Overland! Impressive, guys like that for a fact do not just join without knowing the company has a solid product line and future!
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/overland-storage-r-appoints-nilesh-200000543.html
It might also be great for institutional investor support, after all Peter's (with no disrespect whatsoever to Peter who has been doing an amazing job) past was frequently and unfairly attacked by the shorts. I hope Peter still stays on, albeit the appointment of Kelly as CEO could for the aforementioned reason be better in getting future traction with institutional shareholders.
Yes, I agree, it shows how everybody is pulling in the same direction, which is rare and absolutely awesome, and it explains why Kelly got vested early on too. Two points solved against the shorts in one brilliant move!

Nice find! What makes it amazing is the posters profile: http://itic-corp.com/analysts/
That surely is a woman that knows what she is talking about!
Only for the techie guys here, nice that we see coverage/ more technical detail of the Bittorrent/Overland co-op on IT sites such as this:
http://searchsmbstorage.techtarget.com/news/2240224687/BitTorrent-works-with-NAS-vendors-to-boost-file-sharing
Exactly. And Rome wasn't build in a day, as an analogy, see the exchange (NASDAQ) as a platform on which the rocket gets to take off, but thats really what it is, a better platform for it to take off. The rocket is fuelling right now as I see it, and it is very quiet until suddenly its very loud. ;)
I was actually very surprised to see how few commented on the partnership with Bitorrent sync? I stayed silent and looked up the app, and am now a vivid user! I love that it has a top rating review in the app stores and how easy and cool it is to use!
One of the best indicators for an end to user application and an investment therein for me is if I love to use it myself, and as a user of cross devices (e.g. Ipad and Windows Laptop), I am very happy about having an easy to use cross platform wireless sync ability now...
Last but not least, something about the ability to so easily sync files across platforms and wireless, let's me hope/ think Sphere's ability was somehow involved Or do we really think Overland was just chosen as a data storage provider?
Could actually be, I like the answer both ways
Thank you for a great post!
To my mind it even calls for a sticky note, up to you guys..I certainly will read it again.
I loved the following part, in which he is basically saying VMware could now be a partner (or potential acquiring firm?) of Sphere 3D, or down the line, sees Sphere 3D competing in the same league as giant VMware! I like his medium and long term view!:
Damian Wojcichowsky: I don’t think we’re talking about the same market per se at first. VMware and Sphere 3D right now are actually partners. So where VMware has a customer that requires the kind of functionality that Glassware 2.0 brings via Sphere 3D, they can partner there, so they can embed Glassware into the sale, and kick back a royalty or a license fee to Sphere 3D. I don’t see them competing for the same kind of customers. I think what you see is a lot smaller size of enterprise that you get Overland-Sphere approaching, versus the big enterprise deal that you see EMC-VMware do. So at first its not going to be that difficult. I think five years down the road you’re looking at more of a head-to head competition situation happening.
I agree, it's not good to get ahead of ourselves that much...at least for right now!
DD - updated collection of recent articles with most recent articles first:
Awaiting further submissions... To one of the mods: let's then please sticky note it and all try to keep updating it... gold is only worth something if one knows where it is buried! ;)

We should collect these, importantly also keep them together and on hand for posting in reply to SA articles and the like, so as to be able to say in quick response to short articles to readers: Need non-company issued independent articles illustrating Sphere's potential? Here you go!
Below a very first collection, let's please collectively expand on it and then enter it, once done, in the sticky note of JB, as the initial sticky note on DD on Sphere is becoming very light as it only has links links (from that time) to Sphere 3D's website, but now many sources have come to light since then, and lets (for our very own benefit) keep track of them for potential and us existing investors, also as things are moving fast so that we dont loose track of the articles on Sphere:

We will with all likelyhood see a PR after the weekend before the open, or very soon after. Technically, however, with that detailed filing they opened in terms of disclosure requirements the way, and again as it states: Name of Exchange: NASDAQ
By the way (and I can't believe I am putting a 'by the way' in front of this crucial aspect) we will now also get to enjoy quarterly filings like these with detailed operational and financial updates. There are many reasons why many institutions only invest in 'properly' listed stocks, the discolure requirements such as now on Nasdaq are a key benefit for all excisting and potential shareholders going forward! Exciting times ahead gentlemen!
Form F 40 is filed!: Name of Exchange on which registered: NASDAQ !!
Also with a nice summary on financials, management discussion, history and industry - reference to NASDAQ is on page 1 on the right!

Hahaha:) Very true! Even more reasons to be excited and to know that early penetration and partnerships are the KEY to achieve these kind of ENORMOUS valuations!
I hold my fair share of Spiffy/ Any/ Ovrl stock and like i said here before, if this turns out a life changer, or not, for us is MUCH less dependent on if Spiffy will utlise its unique technology to its advantage, BUT MUCH more dependent if we are able to not be tempted by small profits, and to take ourselves out of its rise too quickly and in haste! Personally (with all modesty), in regards to Spiffy I set myself a time target (years out) rather than a price target... and with all modesty here an advise in regards to this stock: Treat it as if you bought houses in an explosive neighborhood where you think, ok, in (x) years time this area will be what I would call developed and ripe for selling...when would that be? When the first people start moving in and the first price rise occurs? Really??
I am just trying to prepare other valued contributors and co-investors for the inevitable, don't cheat yourself out of huge gains 'just' because you will see your brokerage account balance suddenly swelling up...be patient...they call this 'once in a lifetime opportunity' , but let's be honest, opportunities like this often dont even occur ONCE every lifetime for many people..
And, yes, my money is EXACTLY where my mouth is...
