However your post does fit in nicely with my contention, expressed earlier, more than once, that the problem with the big picture of US foreign policy is not a party thing, but a question of it's philosophical, strategical basis and allegiances.
Whether Republican or Democrat today American foreign policy will, most likely wander along the same lines .. see George Keenan 1948 .. no consideration of such human values as democracy etc ... he even said they should not be used as reasons as they would not be ... just what is right for us if we are going to maintain our disproportionate share of the worlds wealth and power.
I assume that McCain would have been expressing a party view when he said what he said. Does it always follow that a bi-partisan statement by a committee such as this one always translates to a bi-partisan party view on a matter. I guess it would.
