Castro hints he will not cling to power By Anthony Boadle
Mon Dec 17, 11:35 PM ET
HAVANA (Reuters) -
Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro, who has not been seen in public for 16 months, suggested on Monday he might give up his formal leadership posts -- the first time he has spoken of his possible retirement since he fell ill.
"My elemental duty is not to hold on to positions and less to obstruct the path of younger people," the 81-year-old Castro said in a letter read on Cuban state television.
Castro, who took power in a 1959 revolution, handed over temporarily to his brother Raul Castro in July 2006 after undergoing stomach surgery for an undisclosed illness.
Cuba's National Assembly could formalize Castro's retirement as head of state when it approves the members of the executive Council of State at its new session in March.
Castro, the last of the major players of the Cold War still alive, said his duty is "to contribute experience and ideas whose modest value comes from the exceptional times that I have lived through."
His comments at the end of the letter read out on a daily current affairs program on television suggested Castro would not resume office but instead continue in the role of elder statesman advising the government on key issues.

Hey Shmolty!
I've resigned to the supervision of hard labor, lol. A project management job came up with a friend I used to work for and he dumped it on my lap. It was an offer I'm not in a position to refuse. (Baby on the way in Dec,weeee-weeeee!) It's winding down now but I've been swamped for the past 2 months in a beneficial way.
How's life in the Lower Willamette? How was that OCF? Nice time of year I recall. Ruch Barter Fair would be around now...Mmmmm...I think that moved to Williams.
9/13/07: Coffee Holding Co., Inc. Reports Third Quarter and Nine Month Earnings
BROOKLYN, New York -September 13, 2007. Coffee Holding Co., Inc. (AMEX:JVA) today announced its operating results for the three and nine months ended July 31, 2007. In this release, the Company:
· Reports sales growth of 17.8% for the quarter and 8.2% for the nine month period;
· Reports increases in net income of $191,206 for the quarter and $604,394 for the nine month period; and
· Reports net income of $0.07 per share for the 2007 quarter compared to $0.03 per share for the 2006 quarter and $0.18 per share for the nine months ended July 31, 2007 compared to $0.08 per share for the nine months ended July 31, 2006.
Net income equaled $370,656, or $0.07 per share (basic and diluted), for the three months ended July 31, 2007 compared to net income of $179,450, or $0.03 per share (basic and diluted), for the three months ended July 31, 2006. The increase compared to the three month period ended July 31, 2006 primarily reflects decreased operating expenses and increased other income, while gross profit remained relatively constant. Net income equaled $1,019,248, or $0.18 per share (basic and diluted), for the nine months ended July 31, 2007 compared to net income of $414,854, or $0.08 per share (basic and diluted), for the nine months ended July 31, 2006. The increase compared to the nine month period ended July 31, 2006 primarily reflects increased gross profit and was partially offset by increased operating expenses and other expense.
Net sales totaled $13,964,807 for the three months ended July 31, 2007, an increase of $2,106,226 or 17.8% from $11,858,581 for the three months ended July 31, 2006. Net sales totaled $40,794,292 for the nine months ended July 31, 2007, an increase of $3,079,938 or 8.2% from $37,714,354 for the nine months ended July 31, 2006. The increase in net sales reflects higher sales of green coffee and private label coffee compared to both the three and nine months ended July 31, 2006.
“We are positive about our results as we continue to build upon the momentum established during the second half of 2006 and the first half of our fiscal 2007,” said Andrew Gordon, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Historically, the third quarter is our slowest period as coffee consumption dips slightly during the summer months. Yet, it appears that much of the past seasonality of our business has ended. With the Entenmann’s business scheduled to roll out later this year and the recent hiring of a West Coast Green Coffee Sales Department in late August, we believe that the next several months will be a busy and exciting time for our company.”

Offshore Analysis on MEA:
U.S. scrap metal industry riding wave of consolidation
Fri Sep 28, 2007 10:49am EDT
By Chakradhar Adusumilli
BANGALORE, Sept 28 (Reuters) - The scrap metal industry is riding a wave of consolidation in the wake of limited supply and a sharp spike in iron ore prices, with at least two U.S. companies being touted by analysts as potential takeover targets.
Ferrous scrap, which is also used to make steel, is now becoming an attractive commodity with China, the largest producer of steel, facing a shortage of iron ore supply.
"Scrap suppliers are likely to continue down the consolidation path and companies such as Schnitzer Steel and Metalico remain potential takeover targets," Eric Glover of Canaccord Adams said by phone.
Both Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc (SCHN.O: Quote, Profile, Research) and Metalico Inc (MEA.A: Quote, Profile, Research) were not available for comments.
Schnitzer Steel's shares have risen more than 67 percent and Metalico about 70 percent this year.
With few metal recycling companies in the U.S. large enough to meet the demand for scrap, global players are looking to consolidate their businesses in the country.

Software Review: Screamer Radio
I like this program! It allows you to record those m3u radio streams as mp3s in 128kbps bitrate. For a site like archive.org, it allows you download those soundboards that are stream only.
http://www.screamer-radio.com/download/
WikiManual:
http://wiki.screamer-radio.com/wiki/Screamer_Radio_Manual
Drawbacks:
...while it does save stream data like artist and show date, the song titles on archive.org are not part of the metadata and songs get saved as untitled1,2,3,etc..which does have the benefit of keeping the songs in order. Easily renamed, too.
...the beta has a habit of skipping ahead to the second song for some reason, I might be doing something wrong there but a couple of times I had to restart it to get the first song.
Benefits:
---Mainlining soundboards direct to your harddrive for maximum potency and digital purity!
---Easy to use, simple interface.
---It's FREE!!!
---Recording that killer stream from Internet Polka Party
LOL...interesting. I've seen Bimbo products (and trucks!) here in DE. They do a nice precooked sliced bread product they call "Toast"... a quality dunker!
