It already is SG, it's the middle bollie and it's really giving me angst as the price moves through it like butter when I'm trading the other direction. Or the price bounces off it when I'm thinking "no way". lol Say but you haven't seen our pennies have you?
Where's pennies with the test results from sim trading his MA21 method???? Oh where, oh where could our pennies have gone?......lol
Got that right jav. I'm getting a better feel for when not to take a position off the 5 minute chart just because it looks oversold based on a few painting indicators. Even the 5 minute goodman waves leave me in error because of the servitude of the smaller time frame charts to the larger time frames and lines/levels of S&R.
I'm taking a break from it till market opens or 'round there. But, I'll be back!
Boy I'm just not paying attention jav! Thanks for that!
Not likely! LOL At least not for a while. ;)
So how do you go about eliminating stop loss settings in this EA SG? I'm trading light to keep my losses low so I can add as I see fit, but I keep getting my positions closed out by the EA and thus locking in losses.
Yeah thanks SG.....the double clicking over the lines to present the white dot was the answer to the dilemna.
Right, well it will take a little bit before I really get the ability to open and close trades easily on every time frame. Thanks for the help SG.
I just put mine on 25 on the 5 minute chart. I'll see how that wants to work out. I think I'm getting it regardless. Just a matter of manipulating the lines slowly and carefully and repeatedly sometimes.
No need to read all the posts SG. We're just having trouble opening and closing the trades precisely and consistantly. And yeah it's a hoot alright.
Ok, you can stop the tester and then click on "expert properties" to the right of the tester data window and then under "inputs" change the colors to suit your needs for making identification clearer for yourself. When you start the tester again the colors should have changed to what you want.
You'll be starting over again with your balance but you'll have the colors you want, if you want to change them at all.
I'm giving you some bum info jav. After the orange and blue lines moved lower on my screen I was able to see two green lines and two red lines. I couldn't close the short positions by dragging the red lines off the screen but I was able to close the shorts by dragging the green lines off the screen below. So I'm still confused as to the colors of the lines. I'll go into the parameter settings to see if I can change line colors to suit my need for long/short definition. I'll let you know if I'm able to. Right now it seems that green can be long or short where the green line is the close trigger for the red line. DOn't know if I'm making any sense at all here but we'll figure it out eventually. lol
Well the nubcake sim that SG forwarded us in the email is the one I'm using and it shows the trade details in white on the left of my screen. The red lines on my chart that I open are shorts and the green lines are long. There's no specification of which lines were opened first, but they are open when they are red or green. Otherwise it's the orange and blue lines which are the trigger lines for taking the new positions.
THere's one short and one long position that I am unable to close too jav. Thanks to the EA entering a dozen longs unintendedly I was able to get to half a buck profit and now I have 1 long and short going and can't close either one. I actually wanted to go long but not till I closed out my shorts, but it wouldn't close the shorts and layed down a dozen longs without my intent. I hadn't clicked pause and that's part of why it happened. I'm not complaining about the undeserved gain, just the sloppy and innacurate response of the EA.
I must say that the buy/sell mechanism of this EA is horribly oversensitive and inaccurate.
DOn't grab and drag and drop the two top lines that are blue and orange but grab any and all the other lines till you figure which ones do what. I'm clicking and dragging my lines to the top of the screen as if to take the line off the screen and it's working pretty good at closing the positions out. Of course you need to pause the tester first though it's not absolutely necessary. But it does make for more accurate price and balance locking prior to draggiung the lines around.
I'm finall only $2.25 in the hole. lol
Nice start jav. I'm still trying to get back to even. HAHAHA
The tester really shows how long and often that many MT4 indicators paint. Wow.
I'm having trouble getting my orders to open/close or stay open too jav and that's part of why I'm in the hole here as I trade. Only part of why though, the rest of the reason is bad trade entries of my own choice. Just play with clicking and dragging and dropping till you figure it out, unless SG or someone can help us out here.
Well you're doing better than I am at this start. I'm as negative as you are positive, but I'm on the right side of the tracks as I type. Maybe I'll get back to even here over hte next couple minutes.
Click pause and that will freeze your gains. Then see if you can grab and drag the green lines, not the two red or blue lines. Then click pause again adn if the positions don't close, try doing it again.
Just click the pause button and then click and grab the green line and drag it and drop it, then click the pause button again to get the position to close jav. Let me know if it doesn't work for you.
Man you sure can't turn your back on the 5 minute chart in the tester. I left the room to go make a cup 'o tea and I came back to 160 pips of losses after getting my hot cuppa tea. LMAO!
I took the trade based on the double Cycle Identifier alert and four legs indicators instead of watching for the right candle just inside the lower bollie. These indis paint and I can't get that in my head. lol Stupid, stupid of me.
Instead of waiting for the price to move back inside the lower bollie on a doji or an engulfing candle I just entered off what looked like a good spot to enter. Ugh.
Yep, I took a long on the 5 minute AU and I've given up all my gians and am watching my balance go negative. lol
Right jav. A number of years ago I played computer chess for hours on end losing every game at first but then after a few months, I got to the point where I always beat the computer software ("battlechess") as I remember it being called. I never lost a game to the computer. A couple months ago, having not played for several years, I could barely beat my 14 year old son at the game who was new to it and just learning. I tried playing a free internet download of the computer game and couldn't beat the game even once in several games. I'm thinking that trading via the tester will prove a similar outcome. Practice will make skilled near perfection hopefully.
I only trade AU SG. I may find myself gravitating towards other pairs later but right now it's all I am familiar and comfortable with. Using the safety net of the tester I may venture out on the other more risky pairs as a little time goes on to be able to find familiarity and relaxation trading them as well. For now it's AU for me.
And Im not sure I want to start comparing gains and losses quite yet with you. I can take only so much embarrassment in one day. lol I had a 16 pip gainer a few minutes ago and then forgot to pause the tester before taking the next position and loss a couple pips on the next trade. It'll take a few trades before I get oriented to the ST.
Hey jav......it's kinda like this......."if you can't make money trading the tester, than how the heck do you expect to make real money in real live time trading?" LOL I don't know about you, but I need to really spend some time with this tester! lol While I managed to make it back to even in my real account balance by end of week last week, I was down a good chunk by mid-week from impatient trading and not waiting for the setup. Maybe the tester will help me settle down and become more patient?
I think I'm good for a little bit here maybe SG. It was just a matter of right clicking on the chart, clicking "Template" on the popup menu, then clicking "save template", and when the "save as" window opens enter "Tester" in the "File name:" box and clicking save. It took me a couple minutes but I got it figured out.
Btw, I love the "pause" then enter buy/sell feature as it really allows you to enter at the exact time you want to. Too bad real time/real life trading isn't as quick and easy. Oftentimes by the time I see the ideal entry and have clicked on the buy/sell buttons and entered the chosen AU pair or whichever, and the chosen number of lots, the ideal trade has passed me by. lol
Sorry SG, I missed that. I apologise for asking you to repeat yourself. I'll let you know if I run into a snag though, if you don't mind.
There's worse things we could pass on to our children and childrens' children, that's for sure. lol And good fortune to you as well!
So SG.....is there a way to save a specific annotated chart to be used when you run the strategy tester or do you have to add indicators every time you run the dang thang?
Just one of those little pieces of information that make life a little easier. Thanks SG. LOL
Hey AVARICIA.....it's a real coincidence for me that you would use the "now I see said the blind man" metaphor. I've been using it a number of times this week with my kids for the first time I can remember, while remembering how my mother used to use it with me when I was a child. Of course you can add variations to it to maybe make it more entertaining to whoever you say it to, like "now I see said the blind man as he walked in front of the bus"., or "now I see said the blind man as he stepped on the dogs tail". etc.... Not a metaphor, I don't know what it is in the english composition definition. Whatever. Interesting coincidence.
I did SG. But it wasn't in the walk-in closet. lol
Good morning. I'm ready to really figure this strategy tester game out in good detail now. I did manage to run a couple tests last night but couldn't control the number of positons that would open each time I tried to open just one. I did get to the point where I could open and close the positions though. That's a good start.
Yep SG.....peanut butter with a couple pieces of real bacon bits works better than anything else I've found. A deadly combo. Unfortunately the mouse I'm looking for won't touch the stuff. lol
My mouse hunt turned into a major walkin closet clean and reorganize mission. I'll be on again later at some point this evening hopefully. I can hardly wait for trading to resume tomorrow. I'm out now looking for a good reentry on AU.
I don't want to blow my account on a bad yen cross trade yet SG. But I'll probably watch the yen pairs after I've spent more time with the AU on the sim.
FIrst I must find the dang mouse! Most elusive of creatures when you acutally want to find one. lol
I am trying to make every enry profitable, I assure you SG! LOL
I'm having a heck of a time with using the two lines to place the trades. I'm going to hook the mouse back up on my laptop to see if that helps. Just using the finger pad for the cursor ain't cutting it.
I see now why the smaller time frame SG. If I can hone my skills off this MT4 EA strategy tester to where I'm making 3% on my account a day, then maybe I'll be able to do as well with live trading. So far, I'm finding the strategy tester easier to trade based on price action than real time live where each second or minute that passes in real time gives me second guesses, doubts and cloudy confused thinking as the price moves slowly back over previous price spots. Maybe I can find some accuracy based confidence by using the tester. Thanks to you and pennies for all the good info and input. I really should have begun using the ST months ago when you all were frequently discussing it on the board.
