About time! Marketing...

Certainly is!
Keith - Do you really think Smithfield is going to be a true dual core CPU, designed to effectively take advantage of the possibilities thereof?

SiS Mirage graphics listed, doubt ATi would incorporate SiS's product into theirs. Of course, Best Buy could have it wrong...

sgolds - re MS 64, Inquirer says Q1(Q2?)
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=20824
I think the attitudes were a touch extreme in the negativity dept., and things still look pretty good, but what do I know?
Paul
Hynix sees DRAM yields jump. Maybe this'll work hand-in-hand with the Win64 intro to help us out. Cheaper RAM, more supported by K8....

It's still good news, but maybe not quite as good as we thought... yet. Appears the Gateway thing is only at Circuit City, limited run. For now.

I'm hoping for continuing good news in the near future after the ugly mess from the warning and CC. If so, it'll help reassure me re: Hector having it together.
Paul
It seems to me they got a lot of bad news out of the way in one fell swoop. Better times to come, I hope. Hope I can find time to listen later to get the feel for their outlook.

Keith re: "the preferred marketplace for AMD-related novelties"
Lucky dogs!
Keith - I wonder if that S270's only being offered in Europe; all the googling on it seems to bring up only German sites.

marcotte_2000 - If I'm not mistaken, both Norton and McAfee AV use up considerably more resources than AVG.

mmoy, NaS - I can understand why he'd use W98; IF he can develop a stable setup for his hardware, he can get more out of less, hardware-wise. But that can be a big IF. I have several almost totally different K7 systems at home, and never could get complete stability out of them for what the family members wanted to do until I went to W2K. Of course, I have my hardware pushed pretty hard.
Paul
mmoy, I've never had any problems re-imaging/re-sizing partitions/drives, NTFS or FAT32, with Drive Image, which depending on how recent your version of Ghost is, may be the same thing, since Symantec bought out PowerQuest >:( , and now uses "Drive Image Technology".
I wish they'd kept their mitts off, I've never been pleased with Symantec, and PowerQuest products have never let me down.
Paul
Keith, since they referred to demand doubling, perhaps they meant serious inquiries or RFQs.
Paul
wbmw - re: "What makes you think they will be any better than those from current vendors? Broadcom (of server chipset fame) is somehow a pioneer in low power?"
Seeing that they're into cellular phones, set-top boxes and Wireless LAN products, I'm sure they have a lot of experience in power-efficient products.

GCD - Considering the situation, I suppose we could leave it there for a bit. It would be nice if the "target" could PM one of us moderators when they've seen it so we can remove it.

fattyratty, it wasn't AMD, but Analog Devices. Look here:

I understand it's disappointing, but all the talk of unethical behavior strikes me as a bit extreme. Flash is very volatile and has bitten us a few times. they sure don't seem to have a very good handle on it and seem to have last minute deals fall through that they hope will pull it out for them. It stinks, and if they don't start doing something with the supposedly superior flash technology they have, they'll have to consider getting rid of it and focusing on where they are having success.
On the other hand, because of its volatility, flash could just as easily be the star next quarter, who knows?
Paul
Keith, do you really think the market can differentiate 4 different segments? It seems to me that 2 gives "Joe Six-pack" enough trouble as it is. I think at most 3 are really feasible for an end user to grasp - low end, performance and bleeding edge(64FX).
Paul
BUGGI - How can you say K7 has IGP weakness? Considering it has had the strongest IGP solution (nForce2) for a couple of years now, which Intel is only now beginning to approach in performance? And why should the basic business user care if nForce2 doesn't support DX9?
nVidia does need to stop resting on its laurels(though it looks like they seem to be ceding that market); ATi and others are working on K8 solutions, though I'll grant you the K8 side is way behind where it ought to be by now.
Paul
IIRC, they may have already licensed some of Transmeta's IP.
greg s - figure the odds. NOT likely.
Paul
Keith, I suspect a touch of irony is in use there. ;)
kpf - Any further word on tomorrow?
Any news from Singapore re: earthquake? Doesn't AMD(and others) have packaging facilities there and in Malaysia?
Why? Because he already noted the error eom
DoU, Never expect anything effective in writing from Tom except self-aggrandizement.
Paul
They'll be switching cards around. Not exact equals, since the Intel system is PCI-E, but equivalents nonetheless.
re: Tom's stress test
Is there some sort of throttling going on with the Intel system? Check out the weird CPU temp situation! The AMD system has been very consistent in its temps, so it's not just peculiar to the benchmark or ambient conditions.
