Good point. eom
Look at the specs on Apple's web site:
http://www.apple.com/iphone/technology/specs.html
They say "GSM". Why would they say "GSM" if they don't plan on releasing that to the public?
If Steve Jobs is publicly talking about capturing 1% of the market, then their internal goal is probably more like 10%. That would mean $500-600 million in royalties per year to IDCC, based on the numbers in my previous post.
http://wistechnology.com/article.php?id=3612
"In an interview on CNBC, Steve Jobs said that over a billion phones were sold last year. He said if Apple could capture one percent of that market this year, it would be great."
So if the iPhone is $499-$599, and if IDCC can get a 1% rate, then that's $5-$6 per phone. And if Apple sells 10 million per year, that's $50-60 million in royalties to IDCC per year.
Couldn't they have made a dual-mode phone?
I will be interested to hear the "business update."
When will Apple choose SK for the Korean market?
OT: Cisco owns the "iPhone" name.

of course, with the possible exception of you.
Trying to start something?
May we all have a prosperous 07.
I certainly hope so.
This stock will be over 100 by this time next year, blue horseshoe loves Interdigital
Didn't you say the same thing around this time last year?
It would also be good for IDCC if LG did EXTREMELY well. Well enough to exceed that unspecified threshold, so that they have to pay more than $285 million.
Those 3 will eventually pay us! eom
I would prefer it if LG lost market share, even down to zero. We'd still have their money, and then could get paid more by the other manufacturers who took their share. Double royalties!
Thanks for posting the truth, o'dog. eom
This must have been what people were talking about. NOW we can get some news about licenses!
And after one year, I do expect more than a hop-on type license.
how 'bout a double whopper

OT:
"I have a relatively good track record," he said. "Sometimes I miss."
Since he gets his info from God, then doesn't he mean to say: "Sometimes God misses"?
The longer we go without a new license, the bigger the licensee I expect when it is finally announced.
Thank you o'dog, and for your pacer updates as well.
Some people had said that management was to receive another grant of options this month. Was there an exact date?
Happy New Year everyone!
2007 will finally be the breakout year for IDCC. (It has to be, since management's options depend on it.)
IDCC agreed not to sue NOK before a certain date for infringement of their 3G patents. However, IDCC did not agree to not bring an ITC action against NOK before any date, correct?
Can I change mine to:
HOU..C/U
Agree. eom
Great news! Chad_Nick is 2 for 2!
Jets to win.
Jets will cover the spread.
Total points will be under.
Apple is a bizarre company. Even though you see plenty of Mac computers on TV and in the movies, Apple insists that they do not pay for product placement.
Let's hope they pay IDCC if they do sell phones.
Yes, the NOK award was confirmed the final week of 2005. Although that was the SDNY judge who confirmed it. All IDCC had to do was put out a press release.
Who knows if IDCC execs will actually spend time next week hammering out a license?
What's going on with the MUOS contract? People said Sony-Ericy was going to license 3G from IDCC because both companies were participating in the contract.
My take is that the "positive impact" in the guidance does not refer to SK, and that there's a chance we could get a license next week.
With the briefing complete, Samsung should be moving for a hearing soon.
loop:
Samsung already requested an oral argument, as olddog stated in this post:
http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=15502355
"Positive impact" still means some kind of revenue, otherwise it wouldn't affect the stated range.
You got that backwards. The press release is shown on IDCC's web site, but NOT SK Telecom's web site.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SK_Telecom
SK Telecom is the leading provider of mobile service in Korea, with around 50% of the market share as of 2005.
Data, it says "SK Telecom approached InterDigital ..."
The SAM II panel would have ruled in favor of IDCC even if IDCC and NOK did not settle. If the SAM II panel was waiting on the settlement, they wouldn't have held the evidentiary hearing.
