Apple Computer (Nasdaq: AAPL) is one of the top discussion threads this morning on both Lycos and Motley Fool message boards. Technically speaking, the shares are currently at a critical juncture. After gaining nearly 70 percent since mid-April, the stock has recently slowed its rally and is now sitting atop its 20-day moving average. The shares have not traded below this short-term trendline in almost two months. Options players are extremely optimistic about the equity's short-term potential, as evidenced by the current Schaeffer's put/call open interest ratio (SOIR) on AAPL, which weighs in at 0.52. This is lower than all but four percent of all SOIR readings taken over the past 12 months. Wall Street is considerably more skeptical. Of the 16 analysts following the shares, 14 have named AAPL a "hold," according to Zacks.

ljk, read my post again. I don't have PM privileges 'cause I ain't a Paid Subscriber.
Didn't post here or on RB about my SINA & IIJI trades, for different reasons. RB was too erratic and wasteful of time last week, and this board has a nasty habit of deciding that such posts aren't worthy, ie, off-topic, and thus deleting them.
In other words, we can't really have a wide-ranging community discussion here, which is a shame.
I can't tell you how much money I've made off RB by being able to freely discuss stock trades.
Maybe we ought to ask the moderators to put it to a vote?
Keep the trolls off, but let the rest of us talk about any and everything we want to talk about.
After all, there are days and sometimes weeks when nothing Apple-specific is going on.
When that's the case, why can't we just chat about whatever the heck we want to chat about?
Shouldn't even have to make an issue of it, but that's the way it is here.
Nice, but neutered, and not nearly what it could be if we didn't have three different people riding herd on things.
My two cents.

I've been following the discussion here this morning and I've held my tongue as long as I can.
I just gotta say one thing:
GO SINA!
Bootz
PS: ljk, got your message, but I don't have the Private Reply function.
OT, cotton, I held through the day and SINA reported net revenues up 203%, now up more than a dollar in afterhours. May well cash in my trading position tomorrow.
Or not.
Bootz
ljk, NY has a city hall? Whaddaya know! em
Bootz
OT, cotton, I took profits in SINA, IIJI, and a couple of others last week. Bought back a smaller trading position in SINA because I didn't want to be w/o any during earnings announcement. That may have been a mistake, but I've got a big cushion. Will close current SINA position this week, win, lose, or draw.
CYMI is keeping me afloat today. Up over $4 lst time I looked.
Bootz
ljk, there are only a couple hundred thousand city halls in this country. Which one did you have in mind?

burp, RB is broke. A yawner. eom
Bootz
burp, it's interesting that the MSFT news supposedly advanced the market, what, 137 points, and MSFT itself was up, what, 19, 20 cents?
Not looking for a fight, just noting that MSFT itself didn't get much of a bump out of the news.
Bootz
Roni, I think I batted one out of ten on RB today in terms of trying to get posted. Ironically, the one post that did get through was the typical "Can't post" post.
I monitor both boards, but until RB fixes itself, life is too short to waste time on it.
My apologies to the RB stalwarts, but it just ain't working.
Bootz
I tried posting at least 10 times today on RB. One, I repeat, one, made it through. I've got better things to do with my time.

And The Noodle is green, too. eom

Well, ljk, for one thing Apple hasn't broken 21 "definitively."
Or maybe you would like to redefine "definitively"?

tfx, I know, it's now at $15.02. eom

2b, did you make sure the iPod was fully charged before trying to use it?
If I remember, you're not supposed to dismount it before it's charged, whether you've connected it by Firewire (direct) or via the Dock. I think the dock charges faster, but don't quote me on that.

Hey, there's a hurricane headed my way! eom

Meme, I first recommended ELON on IH here:

Now, even my noodle (NWD) is up. Or it was yesterday, anyway.
Go SINA!
Bootz
ljk, of course, I noodled. I try my best not to mention a stock I don't hold a position in.
Do wish I'd held my LOUD a little longer, but it's been a blip compared to ELON, PANL, ASYT, CYMI, and the usual Asian suspects. OMG didn't have all that bad a day, either.
Bootz
steele, speaking of leading the way...did you pick up any ELON on my recommendation? It was only up $3.59 today.
Can I pick 'em or what?
And howzabout the Noodle? (NWD) Up 65% today.
BTW, thanks for the copy of your Oregon letter. I appreciate civic-mindedness in a person.

ljk, did you noodle? eom

Anyone got iSight yet? Picked up two, Wednesday I believe it was. Printed matter says you need a 600 MHz G3 or G4. I installed it on my 400 MHz G4 TiBook, though, and the video works just fine. It shows a little motion blur (not fluttering), but otherwise looks great.
Different story with the wife's iBook upstairs, though. It's a 500MHz G3. After downloading and installing iChat AV, however, a box popped up saying something to the effect that this computer isn't video capable.
Ideally, you'd think it would at least attempt crappy video rather than not trying at all. (Beta problem?)
Tried Audio chat and that worked for a sentence from each of us, before stopping.
Since we're on the same network, I set up iChat AV on both machines to use Rendezvous, and we both show up there.
Anyone here with any iSight experience who can comment on the above?
One other question, as I've seen conflicting info. If you want to video chat with someone across the Internet, and not just on your local network, is a .Mac account required?
TIA

OT: Texan Armstrong remains second overall. eom

zanny, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but Armstrong's team is sponsored by the U. S. Postal Service, not UPS, which is United Parcel Service.
Every Texan knows that.

tfx, it occurs to me that if CHT pops big time next Tuesday, CHL and possibly XING should pop in sympathy, maybe the Chinese portals, too.

Never mind, I found it:

ljk, mais oui! They blamed the drop on SARS. With SARS theoretically over, sales should pick back up.
I'm not recommending anyone sink their life savings into noodles, just thought it might be worth a speculative play.
If business does pick up, then the sp should reflect it. Of course it will take another quarter to know.
Bootz
tfx, when does it IPO? eom
