Credit capital provided for Lao hydro-power project
A credit contract to provide VND 1.14 trillion ($71.6 million) to the construction of Xekaman 3 hydro-power plant in Laos was signed in Hanoi on Sept. 27 between the Vietnam-Lao Electricity Investment Development Joint-Stock Company and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam.
The 250 MW plant is expected to turn out 982 million kWh per year. Its construction is estimated to cost VND 4.26 trillion ($266.2 million).
Once completed, about 90 percent of the plant's electricity will be transmitted to Vietnam, and the remainder, to Laos.
This was an overseas investment project by a Vietnamese enterprise under the formula BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer), which was approved by the Prime Minister.
Se San power plant's first turbine to operate in November
The first turbine of the Se San 3A power plant in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai will start to generate electricity in November.
The information was revealed by Mai Tuan, Head of the Management Board of the Se San 3A hydro-electric power plant project, at a meeting held recently to examine the progress of the project.
Major works in services of the operation of the first turbine have been so far accomplished, said Tuan.
Since the construction started in April, 2003, the plant has been filled up with thousands of tonnes of essential equipments with a total investment of more than 1,600 billion VND.
The Se San 3A power plant has two turbines with a combined capacity of 108 MW. Upon its completion, the plant is expected to generate an electricity output of more than 479 million kWh.-
Cavico Mining invests $2.7 million to improve capacity
Cavico Mining, a subsidiary of the Cavico Vietnam, has decided to spend an additional Eur2.1 million ($2.69 million) to increase the production capacity of its three existing projects, said the company's Director Hua Thanh Binh.
The fund includes an international loan through the Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (Agribank) and the company's reciprocal capital.
It will be used to buy trucks, machines and other equipment for the Nui Beo Coal Mine, Cua Dat and Tuyen Quang hydro-electric power plants that Cavico Mining has been developing.
The company will also purchase many heavy equipment such as excavators and drillers for its new projects.
