Been there once or twice.
Apparently their niche market has little negative affect as others have been.
Was listening to Bloomb. radio how...high end "stuff" has actually maintained levels and increasing because those purchasing certain brands/class etc still maintained their incomes basically and continue buying higher end meals/clothes etc.

London and Toronto Exchanges Move Ahead With Merger Talks
By IAN AUSTEN
Mark Blinch/Reuters
Toronto Stock Exchange.8:44 p.m. | Updated
OTTAWA — The London Stock Exchange and the TMX Group, the parent company of the Toronto Stock Exchange, are in advanced talks over a merger, the two exchanges confirmed late Tuesday.
If combined, the two exchanges would form what would probably be the largest market for mining and other natural resource stocks.
TMX and the London exchange confirmed the negotiations for “a possible merger of equals” after several British newspapers, including The Financial Times, reported the talks.
“It is currently contemplated that the executive management and senior leadership of the merged group will be drawn from a balance of leaders from both organizations,” the two exchanges said in nearly identical statements. “The merged group would be co-headquartered in London and Toronto and continue to be overseen by its existing regulatory authorities.”

Any deal would probably face several political hurdles in Canada, where foreign takeovers related to natural resources have become delicate issues. In November, Canada’s federal government declined to approve a $38.6 billion bid from BHP Billiton of Australia for the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan.
“It’s going to be a hot topic, that’s for sure,” said Stephen Boland, a nonbank financial institution analyst with GMP Securities in Toronto. “It may be the first time we’ve seen a major Canadian financial institution sold.”
A variety of direct and indirect government measures effectively prevent foreign takeovers of Canadian banks and large insurance companies.
The two groups have somewhat similar market capitalizations, with the TMX Group valued at about $3 billion and the London Stock Exchange at nearly $3.9 billion.
Like other exchanges around the world, both Toronto and London face increasing competition from alternative trading systems. In January, SGX, the Singapore exchange, completed plans to buy its Australian counterpart ASX, another exchange heavily weighted with natural resource stocks, in a deal valued at $8.3 billion.
While Toronto has historically been a favorite home of natural resource stocks, London has challenged its dominance recently.
Thomas S. Caldwell, the chairman of Caldwell Financial of Toronto, which is an investor in both exchanges, said the merged exchange would result in “the creation — really, truly and sincerely — of the biggest resource exchange.”
The ability to offer simultaneous listing in London, he said, would increase Toronto’s trading volumes. The biggest gain for London, Mr. Caldwell said, would be access to Toronto’s advanced trading technologies.
Mr. Caldwell said he expected the details of the merger to be “fleshed out” on Wednesday. He said another bid for the TMX Group from a third party might also be possible.
A preview of the coming political test for the proposed merger was provided in 2007 when the TSX Group, as the Toronto exchange’s parent was then known, bought the Montreal Exchange, which handles only derivatives. The transaction was controversial in Quebec and was sold to the public and politicians largely on the basis that the resulting larger exchange would not fall into foreign hands.
Because of that deal, securities regulators in Ontario and Quebec must now waive a rule that caps ownership of the TMX Group by any single entity at 10 percent.
The Canadian federal government will probably review the transaction under its Investment Canada Act, which was used to thwart the BHP Billiton bid for Potash.
McDonald's franchisee planning $1 billion IPO: report
LONDON | Tue Feb 8, 2011 9:30pm EST
LONDON (Reuters) - The largest McDonald's franchisee globally is planning a U.S. listing that could raise as much as $1 billion, the Financial Times said on Wednesday.
Arcos Dorados might file for an initial public offering within days and could start trading in New York in April, the newspaper said, citing unnamed sources.
The company has appointed Bank of America (BAC.N), Morgan Stanley (MS.N) and JPMorgan (JUSRX.O) as underwriters on the offering, the newspaper said.

A one day minor risk position and +75% ...worth taking.
Plus you still have the puts to hold to, or put a small limit sell in case of a dip.
So if you make 20% or so back on those...youve made around 100% which is awesome for holding/having both for a day with limit sells in.

There is always a bull market somewhere as they say.
Thats the trick on learning where to flow/predict the markets next major sector wave.
Healthcare and Utilities are due for an overall sector(s) increase.
What people dont realize...healthcare major stocks have been shorttttttttttttttted alot.
It appears Bigbrother, etc are planing on the perfect storm to- maximize profits.
Short them way low, then buy up everything longterm.
Cats outtadabag. lol
actually its hard to tell.
From what we have seen, cc companies just pass the cost onto you and I. lol, ya know.
Ive heard they plan or in some places have rates upward of 59% interest! ouch.
-----------
What I posted last week, was that a 12k DOW was a bullish/bearish marker to monitor.
Seeing we pushed through 12k, it.. now becomes support.
However we are only a lil above that, so now I believe the markets will sway to and fro a bit.
Weve had a steady slow market around the 12k marker...which does not help much for options however... we all mostly play earnings which are major catalyst for pps movement and why options in this catagory are-coooooool. -V. =)
Playing next day earnings are great because
You dont have to think about when to sell. Period, basically.
Ya either are a hit or miss and you find out the next day.
You have predetermined your max loss amount and only have to wait a day for the upside, and then decide on selling half...and letting your profits ride or not.
HOWEVER...if your interested in LEARNING HOW THE MARKET WORKS...
Buy options with a little bit of time on them and ahead of earnings release.
Monitor the:
1.SECTOR and $DJI. Bullish/bearish trends-will become more transparent as the days progress.
Happy Trading.
-V.
Playing staddles...if your not certain of the direction/timing.. you can also place a 100%-200% "sell limit order" going both directions.
Allowing the market to possible touch both sells via p/c.
(WHICH WILL MAKE UP FOR THE LOSING POSITION OR...DOUBLE YOUR MONEY ERRRR TRIPPLE.
Others can chime in if they like.
If your new to Option Trading:
Consider a call AND put postion on the same stock.
This will HELP YOU- Figure out a few things.
1. Risk/reward will be balanced.
2.Your toleration for buying and HOLDING and position as it increases and or decreases.
3.Can possibly- make money both ways if the stock is wild enough.
3.5...teach you market timing.
4. Consider starting off with a big name *earnings play.
Get creative.
Buy an Earnings play that is 1 week away.
SEE HOW THE MARKET SWOONS TO OR AWAY FROM THE CURRENT *TREND.
-----------
Either way you will be in both positions and... can profit likely.
But, make the call/puts even on dollar amount and relatively CLOSE TO THE CURRENT PPS. Within 10-15% max.
Give it a try with 2-3 picks...and you may find this simi safe method adaptable to your trading style(s).

The best strategy is: Learn CHARTING.
---------
I dont know how others trade, but myself- Im succesful 90% of the time when I stick to the charts.
Option trading is no different then anything else if you figure out one good method of trading that works for you as an individual.
http://www.amazon.com/Stikky-Stock-Charts-professionals-smart/dp/1932974008
Buy this book. It will be the best 10 bucks you spend concerning the market.
It makes you: walk through individual stock patterns...and you must accurately predict FUTURE PATTERN RECOGNITION/PRICE REACTION because of it.
Awesome and simple book.
BTW...
If your playing any options- only plan on a 5-10% move in the stock at max.
If your playing LEAPS (1-2 year options)... you may get a 50-100% move in the stock.
Which will give you a reasonable PRICE TARGET.

re: last post (see link)
--------
Actually commission FEES are DOUBLE...
60 $5 contracts @.75 fee = $45
but
thats a buy OR sell.
u
have
2
double
that
amount
to ....... $90 in trading buy/sell fee on 300.00 1/3 of the cash.
ouchhhhhh
which means... you can only buy: $210 worth of stock...which means your return is wayyyyyy less then anticipated afterall.
where as an in the money call may run you: $290 + $10/commission max.
Hope this clarifies and helps.
Sometimes in the money are reasonable.
Most do not play them often though.
-V. =)
Hi all, nice posts today.
Thought Id stop by. Yes, NFLX- Is awesome.
Its because its the best $7.99/month entertainment that exists!!
=========
One reason to occasionally buy in the money options- is for the *commission factor.
Buying cheapies are great... but if your going to buy $300 worth...
you may be buying (.05x100=5 dollar option)...so, 60call/put purchase may *additionally run .75 contracts or- $45.00 = 15% fee.
----
You can avoid this sometimes and buy a single in the money option for say, the 300 dollar amount you may want to invest.
Less return, buy wayyyy less risk.
In the money is simular to just buying the stock.
That is, with in the money- your return could still be 20% on a 5% underlying stock movement.
Rather then the 5% movement...which is worthless after commission if your not trading with 5-10k...instead of 300 bucks, lol.
And obviously we know that a 5% weekly option, etc can bring 20-50% gains/ contrary loose 100%.
risk/reward management really.

80/20 Rule
Have you heard of the 80/20 rule? The 80/20 rule, also known as Pareto’s Principle or law of the ‘trivial many (80%) and the critical few (20%)’, was named after Vilfredo Pareto, an Italian economist and political sociologist who lived from 1848 to 1923.
This rule states that in many aspects of business and life, 80% of the potential value can be achieved from just 20% of the effort, and that one can spend the remaining 80% of effort for relatively little return.
What does that mean? It means that of all the things that you do during the day, only 20% really matter, because those 20% produce 80% of your results. The reverse is true too, that things that take up 80% of your time and resources will only produce 20% of your results.
It has been said that the 80/20 rule exists in every field, ranging from business to people.
Sales: 80% of the sales are made by 20% of the sales team.
Work: 20% of your efforts produce 80% of the results.
People: 20% of the people you know provide you with 80% of nurturing support and satisfaction.
Focus: 20% of your activities will account for 80% of your success.
How will knowing of the 80/20 Rule help you in managing time better? First, figure out what 20% of the tasks contribute to 80% of the results that you desire, and then put in maximum concentration (means working hard) to those 20% tasks. If you are thinking of trading or investing, perhaps rethink how you can structure your time and effort around making those pursuits worthwhile. If you hold a day job, then your after-work hours (which is approximately less than 20% of your time in a day) will be very valuable in the sense that that is the only time you have for acquiring the skills and knowledge needed for entering the trading or investing field.
Don’t simply try to do more. Just do more of the right things.
Timely info not mentioned in mainstream
or overlooked that is.

Last week, mentioned a perfect Gap filler example.
Seems a buyers prophecy...where everyone sees the same thing, and decides to- make it so.
Kinda interesting.
Doesnt always work that way, but is cool to see clear examples such as this.

Investing in Options/strategy.
2 way/double/straddle position.
Remember to look for an individual option less than 3% of premium. (I lost multi thousands 2 yrs ago, playing high risk FAZ options, BECAUSE: I just started learning options and...didnt realize paying 30% premium was INSANEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. LOL)
I was going for the moon, but got mooned buying someones insanely price soon to be expired options...too risky of a move in that case. (this may help some folk out there). Also if playing "lottos" consider no more than $300 a trade.
They are lottos because 300...can bring up to 3k...300 is plenty for a pure speculative position. Side note.
(Below, is a smarter way to play lottos or non with your own dollar amount decided on).
EXAMPLE:
(XYZ) $10/SHARE... try not to pay more then .30 for these, for example. [ I personally look for a 1% or less entry premium]
So,
This will allow you to ENTER a PUT(downward) and CALL(upward) position IN THE SAME STOCK.
This provides coverage/position if the stock moves any direction, but flat obviously.

*Example real time.
(CME) 300.86 Currently http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=cme
Feb310c 3.25
Feb290p 2.90
==============
6.15 premium. OR 2% of 300.86(1 share)
This provides: 2 contracts, 1 put + 1 call for the next 2.5 weeks.
If...
(CME) moves +/- 10.00 : these should gain 2-3x premium, it seems.
**down side is if the stock trades flat for 3 weeks, sometimes happens.
But if either 3 dollar option doubles- it certainly is covering the reverse/opposite position. You would be a break even. No risk, but a flat movement would cause a premium loss quickly.
SO, Basically a LOW PREMIUM STRADDLE like this example...allows you to be in a security with less risk then- flipping a coin and going long/short on a stock.
You can pay a higher premium and you the same concept and BUY LONGER CONTRACTS. AKA: Mar,Apr,May etc.
Which would then LOWER the risk of a flat stock, but cost an upfront premium much higher. Prolly around 5-10% instead of say, 2% for this example only.
Commissions add up so, breaking even all the time is no good either.
However this strategy can work well for EXPLOSIVE stocks.
A 10% move in the underlying security may bring 5OO% gains as long as the initial buyin/premium was under 3% (from my observations).
So typically a 2.5 - 3x gain option is why we all trade options.
which would leave gains of around 50-100% ALLOWING the p/c staddle to cancel out. Not bad, when it works.
Papertrade this and any other security with a put/call straddle with a 3% premium and see the results FOR YOURSELF.

Any other traders feel free to add to this with your own take as well.
