drhunt,
The O-1000 prototype that I saw was slightly larger than the MXP100. Interesting to hear they downsized it even more.
Thanks.

drhunt, did you state the O-1000 was smaller than your MXP100 ?
And did it have a mirrored finish on the face ?
Thanks for your efforts and the feed back. I attended last year and it is quite the maze.
bomba,
I don't think what you call "delay tactics" are anything more than the effect from them being underfunded. I heard they were improving the max volume level on the initial shipment, since it was a small order, and that the change was relatively minor, and done in house.
I suggest you direct your questions directly to management either by phone, email or via the conference call tomorrow and then report back with your findings.

NEW ENTRANTS
The talk for the past couple of years has been the Tablet PC - a
Microsoft version of the failed Newton from Apple. The device finally
might have come of age, with several manufacturers introducing their
versions and some unique twists of combining a notebook computer with
a touch-screen tablet. For example, Fujitsu introduced its ST4000 Tablet
PC (priced at around $2,100), which is designed for surfing the Internet,
sending and receiving e-mails, and jotting notes. It comes with a docking
station and keyboard.
Those who take music with them have several variations on the popular
Apple iPOD to choose from. The Odyssey 1000 MP3 player from
e.Digital (about $400) stores up to 4,000 songs, includes an FM tuner,
and can be used to back up computer files via a USB connection to its 20
GIG hard drive.
packers1, this is not a huge first run. They are likely getting units out to potential OEMs and reviewers, IMO, and want these things bullet proof...and even at that, I am sure there will be some issues.(not unlike we are now seeing with the ipod's battery issues)
As much as I liked the direction Collier was attempting to drive this thing, it is now water under the bridge and the O-1000 will enter this market is a different fashion.
It is far from being over, IMO.
Tomorrow should give us more insights into this new direction.

packers1, being an initial product launch, I am glad they are double checking to eliminate any potential problems in a first run manufacture.
I am certain that if there was a slight glitch you'd be the first one asking why these things were not double checked prior to shipment.
I hear the sound quality is awesome.

SigmaTel Introduces a D-Major Audio Decoder Designed to Enable MP3 Playback on USB Portable Mass Storage Drives
Business Editors/High-Tech Writers
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 2003--SigmaTel(R) Inc. today introduced its latest D-Major(tm) product designed specifically to enable MP3 playback on USB portable mass storage drives.
By taking advantage of the already successful audio decoder technology used in MP3 players, such as the latest SONICBlue(tm) Rio(R) players, SigmaTel is now positioning its next line of products on a fast-growing USB portable mass storage market.
A USB portable flash-based storage drive is a small, thumb-sized device that plugs directly into the USB port of a PC or laptop. With no cords to plug in and with no drivers to install (since you use the USB Mass Storage drivers included with the Windows and Macintosh operating systems), it allows direct, instant access for uploading or downloading digital information.
Storage capacities for USB portable drives range from 8MB to 2.1GB, far greater than today's traditional floppy drive (at 1.44MB). Their size and portability make these devices one of the most revolutionary on the market today, allowing one to carry a large amount of information literally in their pocket.
The STMP1342, SigmaTel's latest product, enables all of the capabilities that current USB portable drives offer with several incredible added benefits.
For one, the D-Major solution, by adding a power source and earphone jack to the design, allows the USB drive to transform into an MP3 player! Because of SigmaTel patented technologies, this player could run for as long as 35 hours on a single AA battery, decode both MP3 and WMA digital audio formats and support DRM (Digital Rights Management) for secure audio content.
USB portable storage drives have made their way onto store shelves and into major computer maker offerings within the past six months and continue to be well received by both consumers and by hardware reviewers within the press. The solution that SigmaTel brings is a unique one: the ability to bring MP3 audio playback functionality to the current portable-storage-only designs on the market today.
"There is a definite surge of interest for these new flash storage devices," says Danny Mulligan, general manager of the audio decoder business unit at SigmaTel. "This latest D- Major product will not only support flash-based USB storage as it is available today, but will also enable the drive to transform into a portable MP3 player ... just imagine if you could hit a `play' button on a floppy disk and listen to your favorite music."
The STMP1342 sells for approximately $10/10k in quantity. For more information on D-Major audio and the STMP1342, as well as development kit information and sales support, please visit www.sigmatel.com.

murgirl, I wonder what sort of "public" statement the content providers will be making with regard to the IFE units, if any, and if those announcements will be tied to the airlines news, or be released independently of the airline but in association with APS.
An interesting scenario to orchestrate.
Perhaps Thursday will shine some light on this...
"With APS, we are in discussions and negotiations with other airlines and content providers who are expected to become partners in this new system".
"As final retail and e-tail numbers are reported to us we will be in a better position to announce sales and revenue numbers for the December quarter. To date, revenue for the December quarter is much improved over the September quarter." FF
Should get a better idea for the December quarter in Thursday's conference call.
re your technical analysis...
You stated, "The only difference between my Technical Analysis and the thousands of posts containing unsubstantiated hyperbole is my technical analysis has yet to be proven incorrect."
Please indicate your T/A call on the move from $.06 to $24.50.
Seems your statement is only half true.

Great how ihub has evolved into EDIG central. RB is left for a handful of bashers to bat eachother around...and a few are trying to infiltrate this forum.
Glad to see a conference call scheduled for later this week.
SonicBlue's Rio line of digital music players will also get an update this summer. One line of products, code-named "Project Slate," will offer small MP3 players, no bigger than the palm of a hand, with 1.5 gigabytes of storage and high-speed PC connections for $349 or less.
A line of "Pro" MP3 players will also offer high-speed connections in a palm-sized form factor, but with a 20 gigabyte hard drive and the ability to connect to a network.
In development but not expected in 2003 is a portable personal video player that the company is working on with Intel Corp. <INTC.O> as a way to make ReplayTV recordings mobile.
"So far it's proven to be more challenging than we thought it would be," Ballard said.
The Good Guys continues to carry the TREO 15, and just had it advertised in the previous weeks Sunday circular.
The IFE revenues are the "unknown" for this quarter, IMO. It will be interesting to see how far along EDIG is on this project.
bomba,
I think the auto industry wants to see a firm commitment by the consumer that the switch from the CD to the MP3 is in full swing and that easy downloading is readily accomplished and accepted, before they make the move.
With this past years progress in MP3 players such as Apple's ipod and a growing array of MP3 products on the market, the move is on. First, aftermarket is being tapped and eventually we will see the move towards this technology being incorporated into production line vehicles, IMO.
I agree that, just as CD players were wildly popular as they replaced in car cassette players, the 20 + Gig HD MP3 player will also take off, especially with the feature of downloading directly from the radio.
What a marketing tool. It certainly speaks to me.
jmho
20 gigs vs 5 gigs for the same price...
emit: from the article you posted-"Jukebox MP3 portables - the bigger ones that use hard drive technology for 5-20GBs of storage - have evolved into a pretty successful niche. The original Creative Nomad Jukebox is among the top selling players of all all time. The smallest of the bunch, the Apple iPod, has had tremendous success recently, along the way setting new standards for size and weight. This success is drawing more competition from the major electronics manufacturers."
The market continues to evolve into a growing market segment.
Right product, right time, right market, just need that key deal to get done.
D.inkie, can't think of a cooler feature than being able to download directly to your car's 20 gig MP3 player from the radio while in the car...fast, easy and immediate gratification.
This is probably the most attractive feature, from my POV.
hear it, like it, download it with the push of a button...the easier the process the better.
at this price, not much in dollar volume~
redwing,
IMO, either the announcement from the major airline involved in the IFE product or any news regarding the O-1000 going to market.
Both are very real possibilities in the short term.
stoops, you may find "other" developments may lead to your altering that stance...whether your target revenues are booked by then or not.
Either way, good luck.
Stoops,
then there are those IFE payments they have received...
just you wait.
sent, I think if I gave you gold you'd complain that you have to polish it.
For $150 more APPLE give you NADA !
Service, Too (Glad they leveraged the FREE music angle)
An Odyssey will also come with a variety of music files from E.Digital's WeDigMusic.com Internet music site. The site contains more than 3000 royalty-free tracks from independent artists, says Bryan Jones, vice president of broadband entertainment.
Right now, anyone can access the site for free, but in the future it will likely become a pay-for-play service, he says. Odyssey owners will receive a free subscription, he says.
The site's content runs the gamut from jazz to country to classical, Jones adds. Once the site begins charging, the musicians can receive a cut, he says. In the meantime, it's all about people hearing their music. "Artists should be everywhere they can be to get exposure," he comments.
Today's volume amounts only to about $90K-so far, not a huge deal...day traders looking for beer money for the weekend.
don't know what it means to you. Were you comforted ?
52 week high is now 1.35...
Not unlike the MP3 markets, no one company will control the handheld video markets.
News of msft or intel collaborating to accelerate this new market opportunity bodes well for those who have already targeted this market.
With EDIG having already positioned in this space with its relationship with DIVX and its IFE video product due out maybe as soon as this quarter, EDIG should get some recognition for being one company with a focused business plan here.
Now, they just need to execute...easier said than done.
With an economy on the mend and a Federal policy looking to stimulate the economy, it is looking like a much better climate than the past three years.
redwing99, that is precious...lmao
OT:LL, when you figure what they make per hour bashing, they'd be better off on unemployment...and I am sure many of them are.
The Good Guy NEWS is another indicator that the Eclipse will be out this quarter as promised.
What's that initial contract worth ?
"The Eclipse by Fujitsu Ten initiative continues on course, as does our advancement into telematics. We completed our portion of the industrial design for Eclipse by Fujitsu Ten, and expect them to begin taking delivery of finished goods and offering the product through retail outlets this year. Under the terms of our contract, e.Digital is developing and building an initial quantity of 4,000 automotive digital music players. Total value of this first order is just under $1 million."
