The real hurdle is the 428.20 fix on 1/12/04. Today's AM fix was 421.70, still quite some distance before any breakout.
Even though it is a mere 7 dlrs from the Jan high, there are layers of stiff resistance along the way. If history is any guide, it would not be easy to punch through it during the first trial. It is more likely to stop short of that area, retreat for a few days before relaunching.
Goldbugs should refrain from getting overexcited at this juncture.

When COT's numbers get high enough such that the funds are all loaded up,POG invariably falls apart, no matter how badly goldbugs try to convince themselves that this time would be different. The commcercials almost always win out.
Now that POG has taken an intial tumble, it is unlikely to zoom back up without first finding equilibrium. It takes time to recycle --- a few weeks perhaps. November is not a particularly friendly month for gold. However, December should be positive.
Best of luck to all goldbugs.

Dear Brother & friend,
Greetings to you on this beautiful first day of October. For the purpose
of this subject, I am of the humble opinion that I start by disclosing my
identity. I am Brother Leotis Boateng. I was born 48 years ago in Moyamba,
Southern province of Sierra Leone. I am the founder and spiritual leader
of Greater Harvest Bible church Moyamba. My evangelical profession earned
me the title of Brotherhood of St Christopher of the Anglican Communion.
I speak krio and English language. Today, I and my family of six are domicile
at the Ecomog refuge camp situated at Kilometer 11 Oru , Ijebu Ode, west
of Nigeria. This is as a result of the civil strife that engulfed my country
Sierra Leone for over a decade. I am beginning to translate the Bible into
the Yoruba dialect. This is the most widely spoken language of the Yoruba
people. There is already a New Testament and Psalms. I am working to do
the rest of the Old Testament. I am excited but new to the field of Bible
translation. Pray that God gives me wisdom to find the right words to use.
Having unveiled my person, I will like to solicit your advice and assistance
in a matter of high relevance to my future, my family and my people. Precisely
ten years ago in 1994, when the war in my country escalated, my church was
converted to a hospital. Two wounded British army peacekeepers left a metal
crate containing diamonds in my custody but they never returned from the
warfront, as it was obvious they died in the battle to reclaim the mineral
rich fields of Eastern province from the Revolutionary United Front rebel
occupation. During our evacuation to refugee camps outside our country
I took the crate should in case the British soldiers turned up as all refugees
were numbered for easy identification but up till this moment my initial
belief have been confirmed that they died in the war that claimed more victims
than reported by the press.
As a result of my puritanical posture, I strongly believe that people who
don?t know God struggle for everything in life. I am also aware that God
has a role for every person alive. Our destiny. Sincerely speaking, I do
not know about diamond trade and I will not like to hand over this diamonds
to the authorities in my country, whom I know will confiscate the diamonds
with the proceeds ending up in their pockets. Rather, I intend to sell this
diamonds and use the proceeds to develop abundant human resources wasting
away in the refugee camps. With your assistance I would like to embark on
a sustainable agricultural development project that will provide employment
and ensure self-sufficiency of food. Food is exactly what Africans need
right now. Food in abundance and not white elephant technological projects.
In the past three years I have considered and rejected several methods to
dispose the diamonds. Through constant prayer, I am guided to reason that
only a foreign person who will not capitalize on my present condition can
be trusted to sell the diamonds and also assist to implement a viable agricultural
investment with proper technical assistance. Yesterday, I went to the postal
agency with Internet office at ijebu ode and told the operator I needed
contact of a foreign pen pal and friend to help me propagate the activities
of my church that was disrupted by the war in my country. This is why I
contacted you. I do realize this might sound unusual but it is the whole
fact and nothing but the fact.
If you agree to assist me in this endeavor, I will prove the effectiveness
of this offer by sending you a few specimen of the diamonds via DHL worldwide
courier, to enable you determine their actual value and find a buyer for
the entire consignment weighing 46.5kg. I am willing to assume the cost
of shipping the samples so as to welcome your interest in this matter and
further this relationship.
I look forward to your early response to my private email address: boateng5566@christianmail.org
for further explanation.
May the good Lord guide your decision

Now, I have called for the 2nd wave low at 1060 in Aug/04, and look for a minimum target of 1220/1270 by Jun/05 (wave 3). I don't know exactly what may cause it to go higher, but my research reveals that it would happen with very high probability.

Gross
Bill Gross has battled heavyweights before.
Like questioning giant General Electric's candor. Or telling the New Jersey attorney general he's dead wrong - and proving it.
But calling Alan Greenspan a fraud?
The influential Newport Beach bond guru is furious about the Fed chairman's insistence that inflation is under control. On Wednesday, Gross published his monthly newsletter, blasting the calculations of U.S. inflation - and saying Greenspan shares blame.
Pimco's investment chief argues that relatively new adjustments to the consumer price index - the CPI - allow it to underestimate inflation by a comparatively huge 1 percentage point. Gross domestic product - a key measure of economic growth that's adjusted down to compensate for inflation - is overblown by a similar amount, Gross says.
This isn't just a trader's debate. Gross says it's a rip-off that takes money from people whose incomes vary with inflation. Among them: pensioners on Social Security, workers whose raises are based on CPI, and investors like Gross who own bonds with payouts linked to CPI changes.
Gross isn't shy about saying why the CPI is kept artificially low - it makes policy-makers look good and saves the cash- strapped U.S. Treasury billions of dollars in inflation-adjusted payouts.
"It's a con game," Gross said.
Gross isn't the first person to doubt the CPI, and he readily admits so. But his lofty position puts a harsh spotlight on how the CPI accounts for improvements in products - called "hedonic adjustments." Lowering the CPI because of purportedly enhanced quality doesn't make it easier for working stiffs to pay the bills.
"You've still got to buy the car and make the payments," Gross said. "All the quality adjustments don't speak to the rising cost of living."
Gross can't directly link the Fed's Greenspan to dubious bookkeeping at the separate government agency that adds up the CPI, the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But Gross says Greenspan's loud push for hedonic/quality adjustments filtered into CPI calculations.
Of course, suggesting a government conspiracy could seem kooky – especially a month before a presidential election. And Gross will vote for John Kerry, the first time he's chosen a Democrat.
But Gross says he simply fears that bad economic data could wallop everyday folks.
If inflation is low and inflation-adjusted wages are growing, Gross writes, "tell me why U.S. consumers are resorting to hundreds of billions in home-equity takeouts to keep consumption above the (growth) line."
"If real GDP growth is so high, tell me why this economy hasn't created any jobs over the past four years. High productivity? Nonsense, in part - statistical, hedonically created nonsense."
CPI is a slice of a major economic mystery that's left mortgages incredibly cheap three months after the Fed started its interest-rate hikes.
The resulting economic boomerang of a misguided economy may eventually clobber people making or buying those debts - such as folks investing in long-term bonds.
And Gross has one word to them: "Sell!" "}

Humming sex toy shuts airport
05 October 2004
SYDNEY: A sex toy vibrating in a rubbish bin has sparked a security scare and shut a regional Australian airport for almost an hour.
An emergency was declared at the airport in Mackay, 805km north of Brisbane in tropical Queensland state, after airport staff heard a strange noise coming from the bin, Australian Broadcasting Corporation radio said.
"It was rather disconcerting when the rubbish bin started humming furiously," cafeteria manager Lynne Bryant said.
Police evacuated the terminal and were about to call in bomb experts when an unidentified passenger came forward to identify the contents of a package left in the bin.
A police spokeswoman said the package was identified as an "adult novelty device".
Australia has been under heightened security alert since the September 11, 2001, hijacked airliner attacks on the United States and security at major buildings and transport hubs has been tightened even further ahead of an October 9 election.
Traditional POG/Bonds relationship
by: Casual_Techwatcher 10/01/04 09:01 pm
Msg: 438257 of 439063
Traditional POG/Bonds relationship may be returning to normalcy, or at least for this week --- POG rallied 11.50 while 30-yr bonds dropped almost 2 big points. Historically gold and bonds go in oppositise directions, as both tend to be inflation indicators. However, this relationship has been temporarily shifted since 911, as flight to quality has overtaken inflationary concerns.
Gold's long term trend should be opposite to that of bonds, and return to that relationship for this week may signal a shift in market thinking that should favor the PM sector.

CT's take on SP500
by: Casual_Techwatcher 10/01/04 09:33 pm
Msg: 438267 of 439063
As I had stated previously, I think SP500 had bottomed on 8/13/04 at 1160 and a retest of that low would take place. Well, since the rebounce high at 1131.2 on 9/18, SP500 corrected to 1101.6 on 9/28. As you recall, I issued a BUY at 1104 on 9/28. Today, SP500 closed at a fresh high at 1133.2 ---> indicating that a retest of the low had been accomplished, and the stock market should be heading north from hereon.
SP500 is set to challenge the 3/05/04 high @1163.5, probably sooner than most are ready for.

He called on the EU, US and Japan to widen access to their markets and increase the money they put aside to fund development.

Aurizon Reports Mineralization at the East Mine Extends Beyond the Limits of the Casa Berardi Fault
Thursday September 9, 2:41 pm ET
VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 2004--Aurizon Mines Ltd. (AMEX:AZK - News; TSX:ARZ - News) is pleased to report further results from its ongoing surface exploration program outside the West Mine, Casa Berardi Project, Quebec.
Section 157 lies 500 metres east of the East Mine and drilling of this section has revealed a flat lying mineralized quartz vein with a high grade narrow core from the Casa Berardi Fault to 300 metres south of the Casa Berardi Fault. The vein splays into a wide mineralized quartz stockwork approximately 250 to 300 metres south of the Fault. Vein 157 has a strike length of 300 metres and is open down dip. The first stage of wide spacing drilling at Section 157 has defined a vein system that extends the mineralization beyond the limits of the Casa Berardi fault. Further drilling in this area will resume after freeze up.
Best results from Vein 157 are reported below:

(x)previously reported
"The results of the first stage of drilling outside the West Mine area have been successful." said Martin Demers, Principal Exploration Geologist. "Early results at the East Mine seem to indicate that the gold system is not restricted only to the proximity of the Casa Berardi fault, but is far more extensive than previously thought. Future exploration potential is promising."
Surface exploration program - East Mine area
Since the acquisition of Casa Berardi by Aurizon in 1998, surface exploration has centered around the West Mine, where drilling has led to the successful discovery of more than 1 million ounces of gold. In November 2003, a wide spaced drill campaign was initiated around the East Mine area, with the objective of achieving similar success. Data compilation of previous drilling indicates that the area around the East Mine has discovery potential similar to that of the West Mine area. A number of significant grade intersections, from previous drilling at the limits of the East Mine, warrant follow-up drilling.
The East Mine produced 344,200 ounces between 1988 and 1997, and is accessible by ramp and shaft.
Previous exploration drilling around the East Mine was restricted to a 50 metre envelope surrounding the underground infrastructure. The current program is primarily focussed on wide spaced drilling to define priority targets. To date, 13 holes have been completed in the exploration program. Further drilling is ongoing at Section 140, approximately 1,000 metres west of the East Mine, and results from this drill program will be released in the near future.
Three surface exploration rigs are currently active on the property, respectively, one on Section 140, one in the West Mine area and another, one kilometre west of the West Mine.
SECTION 157
Vein 157 - In proximity to the Casa Berardi Fault
Vein 157 contains a high grade core of consistent grade and width, (e.g. S122 and S90 - 20.6 grams per tonne of gold over 3.0 metres). This flat lying vein, with a strike length of 300 metres, is found approximately 50 to 300 metres south of the Casa Berardi fault.
Vein 157 - 250 to 300 metres south of the Casa Berardi Fault
A large mineralized quartz stockwork with strongly disseminated sulfides is found along the dip extension of Vein 157, 300 metres south of the Casa Berardi Fault. Here, the high grade quartz vein is found lying within a two hundred (200) metre wide gold bearing sericite-carbonate envelope. This system appears unrelated to the Casa Berardi fault, and could indicate the presence of an untested mineralized structure south of the Casa Berardi fault similar to that found at the West Mine and Principal Zone areas. Hole S114 encountered an intersection that lies within the sericite carbonate envelope, and returned a grade of 3.4 grams per tonnes of gold over 15 metres.
