Ramsey.....the 4300 replaces the M65 model, I guess we´ll see another new Precision for the M90 soon.
And yes I guess the low price will drive sales of the FDE. I couldn´t imagine why anybody will buy a non FDE drive, if for only 70 bucks you get a bigger and SECURE drive.

Doma/titlewave........if you chose the encrypted drive it ADDS to the price above and switches to INCLUDED. You now see that you can SUBTRACT if you chose the drives below, since the FDE price was ADDED above.
Titlewave....GREAT FIND, thanx!!!
Pricing: (Assuming all drives are STX drives)
A normal 2,5" Seagate 80GB drive with 5400 costs 43,23 EUR (58,79$)
A normal 2,5" Seagate 120GB drive with 5400 costs 56,90 EUR (77,38$)
A normal 2,5" Seagate 80GB drive with 7200 costs 63,80 EUR (86,77$)
A normal 2,5" Seagate 120GB drive with 7200 costs 84,24 EUR (114,57$)
So the difference between the 80GB and the 120GB (5400) drive is about 20 bucks. When I look at my prices Dell doubles their margin.(40)
So 70 for the 120 FDE would mean 35 bucks more than the normal 80GB drive, that would mean the FDE costs about 90 bucks.
More than the normal 120GB 5400 drive, but less than the 120 7200 drive, seems LOW to me too Doma, but who knows....

HJ...maybe, thats the reason why posters avoid to offer their DD on these kind of boards. The sad thing is that some stay away since they are afraid (bored) of the comments from the dark side. On the other side, sharing is a beautiful thing. We all should think about it and we would learn that your so called "club" does not or would not exist....
BTW hats off from our well known DDers, who keep sharing their DD for years and being attacked to do so.... (shame on those who exactly know whom I´m speaking of...)

TG........we all know that Hitachi doesn´t use our software at this moment in time. You´re right, this doesn´t bring a penny, but it´s one more company getting the word out, that HW based encryption is the future. HW encrypting drives are nearby worthless, if there is NO authentication in preboot, since you can access all data.So let´s assume that Hitachi stores the keys on a hidden partition of the hard disc and let´s assume, they do the preboot authentication with an own written software or through BIOS definition, where they have to touch EACH different BIOS. Either way in the near future they´ll be forced to store the keys in the TPM and to manage the drives CENTRALLY.
That´s WHERE and WHEN we come into play…..
But basically you are right, NO money for us here and now!

Well the good side of the PP is, that it is done. With the ongoing increasing revs we can assume, that we need not worry about financials for at least a year.
Within this year we´ll hear about FDE revs and upgrade revs. I hope we´ll be surprise by the numbers and perhaps a new OEM, so there should not be any negative PRs for us in the near future. IMO we see a bottom here at about 2.10.

HP software for TPM management and software branding
In the last months, I´ve tested HP desktops, Notebooks and workstations with WIN XPpro and Vista. Remember that HP has a mixed environment through the usage of Infineon and Broadcom chips. All machines with Infineon chips have the HP Protect Tools preinstalled, but no disc delivered with them.
The IFX machines are:
- All notebooks
- HP DC7700 desktop series
All machines with BRCM chip have installed NOTHING, except the Vista machines. Vista machines have the preinstalled TPM drivers since Vista provides the drivers for ALL TPMs, but NO TSS.
The BRCM machines are:
- All workstations (XW4x, XW6x, VW8x, XW9x series)
- HP DC7600, DC5700, DC5750 desktop series
I´m sure that the Protect Tools don´t run on BRCM machines, cause HP would install the Protect Tools on these if it runs. WHY should HP deliver the half of their TPM machines WITHOUT any management software. Further HP has NO server sided software!
SKS spoke about a NEW OEM. I don´t think it´s HP, but thinking over the amount of the PP, it´s a possibility! I´ll post a few images of the Protect Tools from a HP NX6325 notebook, so you all can see, that it would be really expensive to integrate Embassy in HP Protect tools. (for those who think it would be easy and wouldn´t cost much...)
You can see that there is NO branding of the software integrated in Protect Tools. As far as I know the credential manager comes from another company (possibly acquired by HP) and the TPM management comes from Infineon and is now named "HP Embedded security system".
BR

Ramsey, Alea.....sorry for the late response, just checked in.
As far as I remember there is NO OBVIOUS brand from other 3rd party providers. Even Infineon doesn´t occur if you don´t know where to look after. The credential manager is an ISV solution like the Infineon suite, Safeboot was not installed. Fortunately I´ve one notebook left NX6325, with the hole suite preinstalled. I´ll follow up tomorrow with more detailled information...
