QID used to be a favorite but I seen it has fallen out of favor. I don't exactly remember why but it seems to me it didn't track the index as well as it should have. I just missed getting back in by a penny. Oh well.
What I want to understand is why does MBHI have as much as 23% of its risk-weighted assets tied up in Fannie and Freddie? That's insane!
Anyone with thoughts on shorting ENER around here? I was thinking about it but there seems to be a lot of strength in the sector as of late.
Cy's DVN was sweet today too!
AD, I also was a seller of my second position of BZP and would look to get back in at a discount if offered. I just couldn't pass up that gain.
That trade gets a 10.0 (out of 10!)
Speaking of GS, they have been pretty weak of late. This is about the time when Pantera has taken a position in the past and he has been able to come out smelling like a rose.
Even in the 80's program trades happened throughout the day, although most of the "excitement" was at the end of a triple witching day. It's not like it used to be. :)
<<<I could tell they had no callers so I thought I would help them out.>>
Gee, Joe, if you really wanted to help them out, maybe you should have asked an easier question. LOL. Although I'm not invested in these securities, I would be interested in their response and if they are bold enough to stick their heads out with an answer.
I don't follow JWN either, but at Valley Fair in the SF Bay Area there were lots of people at the Anniversary Sale. The half yearly sale is just the stuff that didn't sell during the season. The Anniversary sale receives new items. Lots of Europeans around too (why they weren't in San Francisco I don't know).
I decided to go with the long-shot. :)
I was intrigued to learn that larger, good quality diamonds have appreciated in value in the past year like some 30-40%. Apparently the commodity boom and drop in value of the dollar helped. Even lesser quality and smaller diamonds have gone up about 10%. Newly was interested in this play but didn't have the knowledge or a trustworthy source. I was cautioned about speculating in diamonds as apparently this was popular in the early 80s and then there was the subsequent bust when everyone ran for the exits.
I stuck my toe in DWT the other day to encourage myself to learn more about this sector. Underwater already, but its a small position so I could also forget about it for awhile. It does seem to be well-priced at this level.
BZP, days like this make me wish I bought more.
Yes, AD, I agree its not just oil prices. It is the entire economic slowdown and fear of it.
Newly, at this rate you'll be on the east coast in a couple of weeks!
Thanks for sharing the photos. Continued happy and safe travels.
AD, I haven't bought any shippers yet, although I am still have an eye on DWT. My thought is if/when crude gets to $110 then it will be a good time to leg in. The shippers are a new interest to me, as was the thread you mentioned earlier. Thanks.
AD, if I remember correctly you were interested in the shippers. Thoughts on DWT? It has been hammered down I'm thinking about picking some up here. Just worried about NLBNL, also this is a recent IPO, so not much trading history.
OK this one I can see.
I can't see the photo Newly. But it could be my computer. I'm at a slow connection and my laptop is having issues.
I learned something new this am. I was under the impression that I could not trade on my Street Smart Pro platform on the first minutes AH (after hours). I was totally frustated when I could not participate in possibily shorting more higher and then covering in those exciting first few minutes. When my order was finally accepted into the system I missed my target price and was too angry/stunned? to chase. I also thought it would come back down. As we know, it did not (at least not yet) and continued higher. When AD wrote that he covered after talking to his broker, it dawned on me there must be a way for me to trade in those first five minutes too. So I called Schwab and all it takes is a change in settings and to agree to another one of their agreements. Apparently, after the next computer batch is run (by tomorrow) I should be able to trade in those first few minutes. Humm, maybe it isn't such a good thing after all. LOL.
I did end up shorting more and I'm a little in the black on that, but I have the inital position that I should have made some nice coin on that is currently at a loss. Just have to be patient I'm thinking right now. A learning experience on many levels and it will be my last post on DECK for awhile, as I think writing about it jinxed me. :)
It should only turn out as well as your gutsy ISRG this past spring! I'd be a pretty happy camper. Note that I am willing to short higher.
Re: DECK I guess I should have grabbed the quick money this am. Yesterday it didn't move until the end of day. I thought the weakness this morning would continue.
Protection? Yeah, if it moves against me I'll short higher. I can be patient 'cuase I think this one will eventually go my way. My only worry is visiting foreigners taking advantage of the weak dollar and buying lots of shoes/boots. Although footwear is heavier to schlep back than shirts at ANF and jewelry at TIF.
I would have liked to short higher but I was in travel mode.
It would have been sweeter if I owned it. MDRX
Hey Newly, I thought your first post on the road would be from Canada, after you opened that account and deposited your treasures.
ya never know. One of them could be a genius. :)
I didn't have much cash left but I bought a little to be in the game. Perhaps I'll buy some more when I free up some other positions.
I joined you and Pantera with HTE today. Its a new one for me.
I joined you on your DECK short. I was hoping for higher and maybe I'll get to add.
OT The view of the business class section reminded me of the quotron screens on trading desks in the 80's. Do they still have quotron screens on trading desks?
CELG volume still light but it keeps moving up.
OT I thought your blood pressure would have spiked on talk of Paris' bottom. LOL
RIMM and AAPL doing quite well today. Of course RIMM took off after I sold my position.
I was under the same impression about the COST salmon. I wish I was a fan however since it is supposed to be so good for us.
FTO still strong.
I didn't jump back into UNH, Guz. I was intriqued with the recent recovery (still below where I finally offed it).
Its hard to trade when traveling. Even when you see something happening, it can be tough to pull the trigger when you don't know what has been going on.
Guz, I wish I was in MDRX too.
Hey, have you taken a look recently at our old loser UNH? Its crawling back from the deep hole it was in.
MDRX up big. Zeev used to play on occassion. I think Guz did too.
GT They had decent earnings just the other day. Stock price isn't doing that great though. I guess things aren't so rosy in the rubber business.
I bought back some more CHK today. Looks like I was way early on the first batch.
I also added some BZP. But I'm not yet ready to return BTU, the little PCX I had, or BPT to the portfolio. Not sure what I'm waiting for though, other than better bargins.
BOLT is getting beat up.
Go FTO!!!! Maybe we should buy more now!
PF?
