OT comic relief
why you should never put your picture on the internet.

but, I seriously doubt they'll be filled until years from now, if at all
lol!
note however that ibm is already producing 90nm powerpc chips and they dissipate a little over half what an intel or amd chip is expected to ....
mlsoft! nice to see you back ... i was beginning to think i was the only cynic left here.
Does anyone know why hybrid cars have to be so ugly?
they hybrid civic looks exactly like a non-hybrid civic. the others are more 'aerodynamic'.
but then, ugly is in the eye of the beholder. look at the element, bmw 5-series, etc. even the crossfire, when compared to the slk ...
"Joe, I think that the world's markets are doing much worse than their respective economies."
of course, just 12 months ago, the markets were doing much better than the respective economies.
OT you are correct: japanese subway and saddam+kurds.
OT heck, i can only deal with one conspiracy theory at a time. the nick berg theories are far more elaborate ... reminds me of the movie "missing". i guess we're headed back to the 1970's in many more ways that just stagflation and oil shortages.
OT "you think attempts to kill our troops with a deadly nerve agent constitute joke material?"
read the story, please.
another disney faux pas?
"20 mins standing ovation for FAHRENHEIT 9-11, yelling, screaming, cheering... 'This is the longest stading ovation in the history of the festival! Unbelievable!' declared Cannes stalwart Thierry Fremaux. Moore, raising fist, unable to speak over crowd, vows to fight... Controversial scene in film shows wounded American GI in Iraq talking about how Democrats must win election... Movie shows video of U.S. soldiers laughing as they place hoods over Iraqi detainees, with one of them grabbing a prisoner's genitals through a blanket..."
"These investors are acting on emotion and fear. They have good reasons but when everyone is heading out the door I like to stick around and cherry pick."
hmm. but nobody wants to buy when retail is dumping. over the last 3 years, thats when we saw the biggest plunges.

hmm. i don't think "shit for brains" is an official designation, but i suspect it would place the brain-owner in the same category as a turd. most of the turds i've met have IQ's around 0. but perhaps i've just encountered the more sleepy/lethargic ones. someone in d.c. might be able to answer this better.
"Rally words" !?!
a fragile regieme with no popular support comes to power in iraq and its going to ask its only defenders to leave it to the wolves? you think that's likely? or even desireable? heck, civil war in weeks ...
i can see where the administration would agree to that, of course, since without that power the gov would not be meaningfully sovereign and they'd certainly like to wash their hands of the mess ... but that would be the most irresponsible of things to do ...
The specialists have been dropping the oils ...
so there was this report on npr's market...whatever show this afternoon re oil, saying that they're just not really seeing the evidence of shortages that are projected and that much of the price rise is attributable to speculation. they even conjured the ghost of enron here.
so any truth to this?
it would be tough to find someone with a lower IQ...I think medically speaking, I'm a "moron"
fear not and rejoice! because, if you're a moron, there are plenty beneath you.
morons: IQ 50-70
imbeciles: IQ 20-50
idiots: IQ below 20
wow, college psych classes are useful for more than just meeting distribution requirements after all.
"'That has not happened in at least the last 10 years (as far back as my database goes).'"
but then, neither has $41.50 oil.
heck, schwab makes a market in quite a number of stocks.
> When was the last time the QQQs jumped $1 off a cliff intraday?
jeez, ya know, with all the 800-1400+ ticks during the last weeks, those guys sure aren't very stealthy about their buying.
FCC looking at using unused TV freq's for hish speed internet service
was that about opening up the frequencies to 2-way traffic? or just broadcasting digital data?
i assume you're talking about equities, not fed funds futures ...
"When Greenspan finally moves the market will feel relieved that the Fed is on top of controling interest rates. This market can in fact surge even with higher interest rates."
but wouldn't a surprise rate hike be an overall negative? he's already said "measured" and the market's pricing in a 25bp move rather soon, but if this is thrown in as a surprise, without some crisis to motivate it, wouldn't that suggest to the markets that additional hikes are on their way sooner rather than later?
well i think the simplest would just be plain addition: you find the waves on the longest timescale you're considering, then add to that the waves on the smaller timescales (i.e. the waves along the wave, etc.)
that shouldn't be too hard to do: e.g. start with the raw data, approximate waves for the longest timescale, subtract that out, and then repeat for what you have left, decreasing timescales along the way.
not sure about "additive synthesis". sounds like perhaps the procedure above in reverse? (start with waves on various timescales and add 'em up?)
re "square wave" - i was talking about this with someone here the other day. its pretty obvious on say a 60-min chart of qqq between 5/03 and today. up until yesterday, there was a pretty clear channel of about 1$ on qqq, and we'd keep slamming against the extremes with a period of about 1 day.
now its beginning to look more like an expanding triangle (! more volatility to come!?), but i suppose we'll see ... . maybe we're just going to bang back and forth between 34.38 and 35.38 for a while, until they shake the change out of everyone's pockets.
dan, what was the source of that? unfortunately there's a flaw in the reasoning.
"The purchase of these gambling DERIVATIVES at a great loss have transformed each market crisis into a rally."
the fact that the futures-buying created a rally pretty much means that the loss turned to a profit and the strategy was successful. so really, the motive for doing this needn't really be anything other than profit, and that only requires someone with enough resources to pull it off ...
"Big put/call discrepancy in the SPX....cant see this market breaking down before options..."
what if mutual fund outflows continue/increase next week?
awwww. its okay, though. my mom likes me
nah, i like me. but there *is* such as thing as 'too much of a good thing'.
awww. well i'm already too short in that dimension :-P
me? sleep? nah, i don't sleep. and anyway, its california, its only 10:30.
so tell me when to get short!
i hate the volatility of this market, though it must be great for you trader doods. i like to sit on something and wait for it to collapse
by the way, i'd like to thank whoever it was here who gave the heads up on jcp right at the top. (was that you, bearmove?)
i should probably join this thing ... to get the search function ...
appy polly loggies
i believe i heard on cnbc (!!) that the concern was about margin/pricing pressures, mentioned in the cc.
intc, on the other hand, apparently turned on the sunshine in its analyst meeting. and goldman subsequently poured it all over the amat's and nvls's.
which i like, cuz i forgot all about klic and brks and missed most of their decline. maybe we get to do it all over again! yay!
406! whoa, wish i was short ...
Anyone have ideas on how to play the price of gas?

"I don't think I would even want a driver if I could afford one.(except on nights and weekends I guess) I enjoy driving..."
you could always rent yourself out as a driver to someone who owns one. paid to drive your dream, best of all worlds :-P
