a fragile regieme with no popular support comes to power in iraq and its going to ask its only defenders to leave it to the wolves? you think that's likely? or even desireable? heck, civil war in weeks ...

i can see where the administration would agree to that, of course, since without that power the gov would not be meaningfully sovereign and they'd certainly like to wash their hands of the mess ... but that would be the most irresponsible of things to do ...
