California Wants to Know Your Emissions
Sacramento moves to enforce CO2 disclosures on companies nationwide if they do business in the state.
By The Editorial Board Sept. 24, 2023 5:38 pm ET
(Lord, help us if newsom gets the presidency in 2028.)
Progressives in Sacramento are increasingly trying to regulate for all of America. Now a bill on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk would require businesses from sea to shining sea to report their CO2 emissions. You can check out of California, but you can’t escape its climate regulation.
California’s Senate this month passed legislation that would require companies with more than $1 billion in annual revenue that do business in the state to publicly disclose their CO2 emissions. This would include the emissions of their suppliers, customers, contractors and even commuting workers. Companies could get dunned for errors.
“Doing business” in California is defined as having annual sales exceeding $610,395, or more than $61,040 in property or payroll, in the state. Almost any medium-sized business with a single worker in California would have to report its emissions.
California Democrats are one-upping the Biden Securities and Exchange Commission, which is expected soon to finalize a rule requiring public companies to report their CO2 emissions. The California bill goes further than the SEC’s proposed rule since it would also apply to private businesses, limited liability companies, and partnerships...

Democrats chose Biden — now they’re doomed in 2024
By Daniel McCarthy Published Sep. 24, 2023, 7:48 p.m. ET
If Joe Biden is their nominee, Democrats will lose the White House next year.
That conclusion gets harder to deny with each passing week.
But what can Democrats do about it?
The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll has Biden trailing Donald Trump by nine points, 42% to 51%.
Progressive pundits have reacted with denial, anger and bargaining.
The once-mainstream polling analyst Larry Sabato could only rage on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter: “It’s a ridiculous outlier (Trump up 10 over Biden — laughable). My question: How could you even publish a poll so absurd on its face?”
Where would the profession be if pollsters discarded the data every time they didn’t like what their surveys told them?
Behind the numbers are some basic facts Democrats ignore at their peril:
• The president’s age and questionable capacity to do his job are serious concerns for voters, with 74% of those ABC polled saying Biden is too old for another term. Doubts about his fitness will grow as voters see more of him on the campaign trail.
• Only 23% approve of the way Biden is handling immigration.
• He fares little better when voters are asked about the economy: Just 30% approve of his performance.
• In contrast, the public sees the Trump years more favorably: ABC gauged approval for Trump’s record at 38% when he left office. Now that’s up to 48%.
• Democrats can choose to read only polls that tell a reassuring story — but there are fewer and fewer of those.
Most instead show a dead heat between Trump and Biden in 2024, and recent averages indicate the contest is tilting to Trump.
The issues on which next year’s election will be fought look dire for Biden.
Democratic mayors from Oscar Leeser in El Paso to Eric Adams in New York have acknowledged that migration has reached crisis proportions — “a breaking point,” in Leeser’s words.
Crime and homelessness are so bad in blue cities that the Democratic mayor of Dallas recently switched to the GOP.
If this is what urban mayors think, you don’t need polls to tell you how voters feel.
Tenured economists at America’s most prestigious universities insist the economy is terrific — but the experience of shopping for groceries or trying to buy a home says otherwise.
Any incumbent in this environment would have to be an energetic salesman to convince voters they’re better off than they were four years ago.
Biden has neither the energy nor the salesmanship.
Four years ago, Democrats harnessed a backlash against Donald Trump, in the midst of COVID and the George Floyd ordeal, to elect Biden.
But now that voters can make a direct comparison between the Trump and Biden eras, the juxtaposition doesn’t favor Biden.
And if Trump has personal qualities that bother voters, they don’t trouble them as much as Biden’s advancing decrepitude does.
The ABC poll agrees with others that find a majority of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents would like someone other than Biden to top the party’s ticket in 2024 — 62% said so in ABC’s survey.
Yet a scenario in which the Democrats dump Biden is hard to envision.
First there’s the president himself, who won’t go gentle into that good night.
His life is politics, and like his contemporaries Sen. Mitch McConnell (81) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (90), Biden (80) has nothing but the grave to look forward to once he leaves office.
The president has arranged Democrats’ primary calendar to frontload South Carolina, the state that saved his campaign in 2020. He’s taking no chances — and not stepping down.
Then there’s the succession problem: The Democrat next in line is Vice President Kamala Harris, whose electoral prospects are, if anything, bleaker than Biden’s.
Yet she’s a black woman — what white or male Democrat would dare cut in front of her?
Gavin Newsom, the California governor who very much wants to be the next Democratic president, is smart enough to wait.
He knows if Biden (or Harris) fails in 2024, the path will be clear in 2028.
If Biden or Trump gets re-elected next year, neither can run again. And if Harris replaces Biden before the election, chances are she loses and is out of the game for good.
Biden could win re-election and die in office, which would make Harris an incumbent in ’28, but the risk of that is low compared with the hazards of trying to toss out Biden and Harris alike with a 2024 challenge, then going on to beat Trump in an issue environment inherited from Biden.
Democrats sealed their fate when they picked Biden-Harris in the first place.
Yes, the Republicans could still blow it — but Joe Biden means the race is theirs to lose.

Jimmy Carter attends hometown Peanut Festival ahead of 99th birthday, months after entering hospice care
By Alyssa Guzman Published Sep. 23, 2023, 4:10 p.m. ET
(Not the best president but one of the finest human beings to land on the planet. I will admit to voting for him twice... before I saw the light.
Here's to you and your lovely wife, President Carter. I hope you make it to 99 and are able to celebrate in good shape. Videos at the link.)
Former President Jimmy Carter was spotted enjoying his hometown Peanut Festival ahead of his 99th birthday Saturday, in a rare public appearance since he entered hospice care earlier this year.
The 39th President joined the parade on Saturday, rolling through the Plains, Georgia, festival in the back of a black SUV with his wife and former first lady Rosalynn Carter, a video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, showed.
The Carter Center re-shared the snippet on the social platform, writing: “Beautiful day for President & Mrs. Carter to enjoy a ride through the Plains Peanut Festival! And just a week before he turns 99. We’re betting peanut butter ice cream is on the menu for lunch!”
The longest living president’s appearance got a warm welcome, with many taking to the comments to “bless” the couple and saying how “wonderful” it was to see him.
Carter, who is set to turn 99 on Oct. 1, entered hospice care in February.
He announced that he would remain in hospice care and would spending the “remaining time at home with his family.”
He decided to forego further treatment and spend the rest of his life in the home he owned when he was first elected to the state Senate in 1962.
Shortly after his health scare, as the country prepared to lose another president, his wife, 96, was diagnosed with dementia.
Carter’s grandson Josh told People last month that his grandparents “always” have “somebody at the house” to keep them company.
Their other grandson, Jason, said that the family feared they would lose Carter soon after he entered hospice care, but that he now believes his grandfather will make it to his 99th birthday.
In the interview, he also said Carter enjoys peanut butter ice cream.
Throughout his life, Carter has been a big advocate for the peanut industry, evening planting the nut in the White House Rose Garden during his time in office, according to the Peanut Institute.

Murphy's in his second term. He'd have to sit out the next election before he could run again.
Fingers crossed the voters come to their senses if he tries for a third term after the hiatus.

‘Deeply Disturbing’: New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy Urges Sen. Robert Menendez to Resign
BREITBART NEWS 22 Sep 2023 3:30
(How do you spell 'fall guy'? m.e.n.e.n.d.e.z... Wonder what DEI creature Murphy has in mind to replace the innocent Sen. Bobby-boo.)
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) has joined the small, but growing chorus of Democrats urging Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) to resign from the U.S Senate after the fellow New Jersey Democrat was indicted on federal bribery charges Friday morning.
Murphy, in a statement reported by CBS News, branded the bombshell claims against Menendez “deeply disturbing,” adding that the claims “implicate national security and the integrity of our criminal justice system.”
“Under our legal system, Senator Menendez and the other defendants have not been found guilty and will have the ability to present evidence disputing these charges, and we must respect the process,” Murphy stated, according to the news outlet. “However, the alleged facts are so serious that they compromise the ability of Senator Menendez to effectively represent the people of our state. Therefore, I am calling for his immediate resignation.”
Menendez, along with his wife, Nadine Menendez, were indicted in New York in connection with their alleged “corrupt relationship” with a trio of businessmen and to “benefit” the Egyptian government. The indictment, which also names Wael Hana, Jose Uribe, and Fred Daibes as codefendants, accuses the senator of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of bribes in exchange for favors from the businessmen.
CBS News noted:
Prosecutors said federal agents found more than $480,000 in cash during a search of the couple’s home in June 2022, “much of it stuffed into envelopes and hidden in clothing, closets, and a safe,” as well as over $70,000 in a safe deposit box belonging to Nadine Menendez. They also found gold bars worth more than $100,000, according to the indictment.
Murphy’s remarks come after Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) urged Menendez to step down, calling on Democrat leadership to “push him out” if the senator refuses.
“First of all, everybody’s innocent until proven guilty, thank goodness, still in our country. But I’m appalled. Anybody who pays attention, I don’t care your politics, Democrat or Republican, you should be appalled,” Phillips told CNN. “A member of Congress who appears to have broken the law is someone who I believe should resign.”
Eric Holder, who served as attorney general in then-President Barack Obama’s Department of Justice, has also called on Menendez to resign.
“As both a leader in the Democratic Party & the former Attorney General and given the nature of the charges, I call upon Senator Menendez to resign,” Holder wrote on X of the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “The nation will be better served if he steps aside and allows a transition to occur that will best serve the people of New Jersey.”
Menendez has denied any wrongdoing.
“Since this investigation was leaked nearly a year ago, there has been an active smear campaign of anonymous sources and innuendos to create an air of impropriety where none exists,” the embattled lawmaker said in a statement.
“The excesses of these prosecutors is apparent. They have misrepresented the normal work of a Congressional office. On top of that, not content with making false claims against me, they have attacked my wife for the longstanding friendships she had before she and I even met,” he added.

Menendez is probably just a distraction from Hunter and his father.

Even if we get the results we want, Murphy will just replace him with another vile demorrhoid cancer.

Archeologists discover 2,000-year-old child’s shoe with laces intact
A shoe belonging to a child and dating back more than 2,000 years has been unearthed in Austria with its laces still intact.
By Amarachi Orie, CNN Published Sep 21, 2023 6:16 PM EDT | Updated Sep 21, 2023 6:16 PM EDT
(CNN) — A shoe belonging to a child and dating back more than 2,000 years has been unearthed in Austria with its laces still intact.
The design of the leather shoe, whose size roughly corresponds to EU 30 (US 12), suggests it was likely made in the 2nd century BC, according to the German Mining Museum Bochum-Leibniz Research Museum for Geo-resources.
The shoe was excavated by archeologists in the western village of Dürrnberg, where rock salt mining took place from as early as the Iron Age, it said in a recent press release.
The salt, which is particularly good at preserving organic remains, is thought to have kept the shoe in extremely good condition.
“Our research activities at Dürrnberg have been providing us with valuable finds for decades in order to scientifically explore the earliest mining activities. The condition of the shoe found is outstanding,” Professor Thomas Stoellner, head of the Research Department at the German Mining Museum, said in the press release.
The size of the shoe, which is leather, roughly corresponds to EU 30 (US 12). Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum
Excavation work at Dürrnberg is being done to obtain information on the work and lives of Iron age miners, according to the museum.
Archeologists discovered the shoe among other organic remains, including a fragment of a wooden shovel blade, as well as remains of fur with lacing that might have come from a fur hood.
The remnants of the shoe’s lacing found preserved were likely made of flax or linen, according to the release.
Finding a child’s shoe is “always something special,” because it shows that children were present underground, the museum said.
Stoellner added,”Organic materials generally decompose over time. Finds like this child’s shoe, but also textile remains or excrement like those found on Dürrnberg, offer an extremely rare insight into the life of Iron Age miners.”

Not sure the young 'uns these days understand what that drawing of an envelope is. A friend of mine was a college professor until she retired a year ago. At the end of the last semester she taught, she handed out envelopes for the kids to self-address. She wanted to mail their final paperwork back to them. They did not know how to address them. Pathetic. Maybe iHub should use a little mailbox but they might not know what that is either.

Eric Clapton Helps Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Raise $2.2 Million

(Rock on, Jr. Rock on. < g >)
Rock legend Eric Clapton helped Democrat presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. raise $2.2 million at a private fundraiser event in Los Angeles on Monday night.
“Hi, Robert. Hi everybody. I just want to say I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon at this gig for truth, unity, peace, and prosperity with the Kennedy team,” Clapton said in a video message ahead of Monday night’s fundraiser. “See you soon.”
The $2.2 million raised includes $1 million towards Kennedy’s campaign and $1.2 million for a political action committee supporting the Democrat candidate.
Tickets for the fundraiser started at $3,300 and went as high up as $6,600. Kennedy thanked Clapton and his band for performing at the private fundraiser in a statement issued Tuesday. Kennedy said:
I am deeply grateful to Eric Clapton for bringing his musical artistry and rebellious spirit to my gathering in Los Angeles last night. I sometimes think that in our divided society, it is music rather than any kind of intellectual agreement that has the most potential to bring us together again.
Eric sings from the depths of the human condition. If he sees in me the possibility of bringing unity to our country, it is only possible because artists like him invoke a buried faith in the limitless power of human beings to overcome any obstacle.
Clapton and Kennedy have both previously spoken out against the coronavirus vaccines, Hollywood Reporter noted.

CNN Poll: Several Republican Presidential Candidates Lead Joe Biden in Head-to-Head Matchup
HANNAH BLEAU 7 Sep 2023 2:41
(Read the last three paragraphs... Trump's primary focus will be retribution. He won't have time to focus on the country. JMO)
Former President Donald Trump, as well as South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, former Vice President Mike Pence, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are leading President Joe Biden in a head-to-head matchup, the latest CNN poll found.
The survey asked respondents who they would choose in a series of hypothetical head-to-head matchups, all including Biden and various GOP candidates.
Trump, the clear leader in the Republican primary race, leads Biden in a head-to-head matchup by one percent, or 47 percent to 46 percent. Notably, Trump’s lead is within the ± 3.6 percent margin of error.
However, the former president is far from the only Republican candidate besting Biden. In fact, the survey found some of Trump’s challengers performing even better than him against Biden.
Haley, for instance, leads Biden 49 percent to 43 percent — a lead well outside of the margin of error.
Biden trails both Pence and Scott by two points, as both see 46 percent to Biden’s 44 percent.
Christie leads Biden by two points, 44 percent to Biden’s 42 percent, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is tied with Biden at 47 percent support.
While the survey shows Biden edging out anti-woke businessman Vivek Ramaswamy by one point — 46 percent to 45 percent — that is still a virtual tie, well within the survey’s margin of error.

Ann Coulter blasts ‘gigantic p—y’ Trump after he calls her a ‘has-been, stone cold loser’
By Ariel Zilber Published Sep. 7, 2023, 12:00 p.m. ET
Ann Coulter escalated her war of words with Donald Trump, branding the former president a “gigantic p—y” after he referred to the conservative commentator as a “has-been” and a “stone cold loser.”
“Trump begged me to come to Bedminster this week, I said only if I could record a substack with him, but the GIGANTIC P—Y is too afraid of me, so instead he did this,” Coulter wrote in a post on X, the social media app formerly known as Twitter.
Bedminster is Trump’s New Jersey estate where the former president spends part of the year.
The firebrand conservative media personality records a video interview show called “Unsafe” that she publishes on subscription-based Substack, the newsletter- and podcast-hosting subscription service.
Coulter’s swipe at Trump, who despite his legal woes remains the odds-on favorite to capture the GOP presidential nomination in 2024, was a response to the former president’s posts blasting the author on his Truth Social app.
Last month, Coulter called Trump a “giant baby” who “can barely speak English.”
She has also praised his main GOP presidential nominee rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
“Has been Ann Coulter is a Stone Cold Loser!!!” Trump wrote of his erstwhile supporter on Wednesday.
In another Truth Social post, Trump disavowed Coulter once again, writing: “Ann Coulter, the washed up political ‘pundit’ who predicted my win in 2016, then went unbearably crazy with her demands and wanting to be a part of everything, to the consternation of all, has gone hostile and angry with every bit of her very ‘nervous’ energy’.”
“Like many others, I just didn’t want her around — She wasn’t worth the trouble!”
Coulter has previously used derogatory language to describe the 45th president.
In the aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the US Capitol, Coulter told the Daily Beast: “We finally got the authoritarian liberals have been talking about. And I want to point out what a gigantic p—y he is.”
“Who are these people still supporting Trump and this nonsense ‘Stop the steal’? I don’t understand why,” Coulter told the news site.
“Why are you doing this for Trump when he doesn’t give a crap about you? These poor, working-class Americans, hanging on by their fingernails!”
Coulter added: “No, he didn’t have time for them. He was too busy talking to Bob Woodward.”
Coulter was initially one of Trump’s more prominent boosters. In 2016, she authored a book “In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome.”
But Coulter turned against Trump, accusing him of “betraying” his voters by failing to complete the much-touted wall along the US-Mexico border to stop the flow of undocumented migrants.
Trump came into office vowing to construct a barrier along the southern frontier as part of a crackdown on illegal immigration, but he only managed to complete a portion of the wall.

The Sick Pup State: California State Assembly Declares August ‘Transgender History Month’
JOEL B. POLLAK 6 Sep 2023 4:22
(Watch out if Newsom winds up being the democrat nominee. Too many people grossly underestimate the hatred for Trump among the Dem opposition, Independents -- who will be the deciding vote, and yes... a number of republicans. But what the hell do I know?)
The California State Assembly voted Wednesday to declare August “Transgender History Month,” the first of its kind in the nation.
According to Sacramento-area Fox affiliate KTXL-40:
The California State Assembly has voted to officially recognize August as “Transgender History Month,” beginning in 2024. The resolution, which passed on Wednesday, makes California the first state in the United States to have a month that officially recognizes the history and contributions of transgender people.
Assemblymember Matt Haney (D-San Francisco), the bill’s author, said, “I couldn’t be more proud to have introduced legislation that will designate August as the first statewide Transgender History month in the nation.”
He continued, “I believe that as Californians our strongest defense against the anti-trans agenda is just to tell the truth. Let’s tell the truth about transgender people’s lives, and let’s lift up the history of the transgender Californians who left their mark on our great state.”
The resolution, introduced by Matt Haney (D-San Francisco), says:
WHEREAS, The suppression of gender variance among indigenous California cultures by Spanish and later Anglo settlers was a foundational event of the history of the state …
WHEREAS, The social fluidity of Gold Rush-era California attracted countless people who lived transgender lives in the mid-19th century …
WHEREAS, San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood has been known as a residential district for transgender people since the second half of the 19th century …
WHEREAS, The month of August has particular significance to the trans community as it is the month when the Compton’s Cafeteria Riots are commemorated. One of the first LGBT civil rights uprising in the United States, the Compton’s Cafeteria Riots took place in August of 1966 in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, which has now been designated as the world’s first transgender cultural district; and
WHEREAS, Supporting the transgender community by designating August as Transgender History Month will create a culture led by research, education, and scholarly recognition of the contributions of transgender Californians to our great state’s history, and will educate future generations of Californians on the importance of this history; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly declares the month of August of each year as Transgender History Month; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
A statement by the Democratic legislators behind the resolution declared:
Every August hereafter will be known in California as Transgender History Month. California has long been at the forefront of the transgender liberation movement. But transgender and gender-nonconforming Americans are being politicized and dehumanized in recent culture wars and their contributions to the history of the United States are being erased.
Jorge Reyes Salinas, communications director for Equality California, was quoted by CBS News as saying: “Especially now, in a time that we are seeing a constant, week-after-week attacks against the LGBTQ+ community, especially the transgender community. … [Transgender History Month is] really a reminder that California stands behind the trans community and now more than ever we are not giving up on reinforcing that value.”
Several California cities declared August to be Transgender History Month in August 2022.
