XOMA Awarded $15 Million Contract from NIAID to Help Fight Bioterrorism
Thursday March 10, 5:44 pm ET
XOMA to Develop Three Anti-Botulinum Neurotoxin Monoclonal Antibodies
BERKELEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 10, 2005--XOMA Ltd. (Nasdaq:XOMA - News) today announced that it was awarded a $15 million contract from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to produce three botulinum neurotoxin monoclonal antibodies designed to protect U.S. citizens against the harmful effects of biological agents used in bioterrorism.
Under the 18-month contract, XOMA will develop monoclonal antibody therapeutics using proprietary antibody expression systems to produce anti-type A-botulinum neurotoxin monoclonal antibodies including a Master Cell Bank (MCB), Manufacturer's Working Cell Bank (MWCB) and other designated deliverables. The antibodies will be produced under Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) at XOMA's manufacturing facility. This project will be 100% funded with Federal funds from NIAID under Contract No. HHSN266200500004C. SRI International, an independent, nonprofit research institute based in Menlo Park, CA, will be a subcontractor under this contract and will develop potency assays to support antibody characterization.
"Numerous events in the United States over the past few years serve as a stark reminder that the use of biological agents remains a real threat," said John L. Castello, president, chairman and CEO of XOMA. "As an industry leader in developing monoclonal antibodies, XOMA is committed to working with the U.S. government to develop new therapies to counter these biological threats."
"We have previously stated that an important part of our strategy for achieving profitability is increased utilization of our process development and manufacturing assets," continued Castello. "This contract with NIAID is an important step forward in achieving this objective."
About Botulism Neurotoxin (BoNT)
With the recent deliberate exposure of postal workers, other government employees, and the American public to Bacillus anthracis spores, there is an urgent need to devise effective measures to protect U.S. citizens from the harmful effects of biological agents used as instruments of terror. Botulinum neurotoxins are one of these biological threats and new vaccines, therapies and diagnostics are needed to counter the potential terrorist use of these toxins.

BIPH starter
Hope all goes well dee.Family much more important than money.Later
Dee or anyone with imput. What do you guys think of the SHO short reporting rule? What effect do you think it has?Whats your general take on it?Thanks Bob http://www.investigatethesec.com/
Dee,do you know who clears through schwabb.Everytime volume slows on cbyi they camp out on ask. Thanks
I missed that. That was the flush out before yesterdays run.I should have had a standing order in.Hardly anyone got any under .02 on that dip.Want to sell them. What are your charts telling you as far as possible pullback? Thanks
Problem for traders, not if longterm holder.
Dee,the problem was getting shares. It took me weeks to get over 100k in the .016-.017 range. Most of the volume during last 2 weeks has been .025-.04.
Yea I know dee cbyi.Thats why I have this as a long term play.MM's have never given the 1-2 day traders a chance for quick buck unless you time it perfectly.I have followed and bought for months on every dip.Looking for another 100k.Hopefully in the mid .02 range.
Dee,entered posod Monday in 1.20's.Could be low float runner.Based on chart 2.00-2.20 seems reasonable at very least. Also twr for a bankruptcy bounce play.Halted now.
Thanks Dee,Love the formation back to sept.
Dee,what a rollercoaster cbyi back up today.Needs to break .04 with volume.Last two weeks over 3mill traded mainly buys.before today around 300k.MM games .015 to .04 on 3mill.Then down on measly 300k which a third were buys mon and tue.Today nice buying.Recieved email from Pawson yesterday.I have to give him a time to call me.We are giong to talk about the short situation in cal-bay.Back to you after I speak with him.
Thanks bro,we need to find us a couple retired mm's to make life a little easier.Later
Question guys:I know all the games the mm's play.Do you think their is any truth to the statements you see that they trade signals with share amounts traded ex.150-800 and on and on.I am an experienced investor but never actually new a market maker to verify this.If it was true wouldnt it be nice to know what those codes meant. Thanks Bob
Watch posod.Possible low float runner like goam-icge-rco.Appears to have bottomed.Later Bob
Hey Dee,cbyi just as I thought yesterday some shorties gettin scared.News will be out in near future as email from Pawson.Mainly all buys again today.Hoping for mother of all short squeezes when news hits with our low float.I have this gut feeling Pawson is going to do something to make these mm and possibly berlin shorts have to cover.Like what he has done in the past.http://www.nasdaqtrader.com/aspx/regsho.aspx
Talk to you later
Thanks teapee eom.
Dee,Recieved email back from pawson. To make a long story short,pr due out in week or so that in in his sincere opinion will be good for us shareholders outlining any concerns about the changeover.I threw every relevant question at him and am satisfied based on his past performance.Since I do not see cbyi mentioned anywhere today buying most likely as I thought either insiders or those nasty mm/naked shorters covering. We shall see soon enough.Bob
Dee,Looking around other boards, not seeing any news or pumping going on.Most likely new management taking positions. Also they were listed on berlin exchange so could be naked shorts/mm covering.I believe their will be a name change and these shorts may have to cover to show actual ownership.Correct me if I am wrong.
