We needed you ... to ring the closing bell,
amongst your many other valuable services
(including NNG-FLE greeter).
Stuffit, I think we shall indeed
have to address him as Master Hamvestor
going forward.
DownTime, thanks for explaining some of your thinking and rationale.
Are you talking Mar or Apr puts on the INFN example?
Is it pertinent how close to expiry?
The part I need to get my head around
is how to judge whether the time premium
is low, reasonable, or high
for a given underlying.
I think a modeling tool could be valuable.
Perhaps that is mandatory for advanced positions
(straddles, etc).
---
One strategy that sounded compelling
was writing naked puts, and just collecting premium,
but you have to be capable of having the position
put to you.
Thanks DownTime, as I expected, look for good volume in the underlying.
Big cap, active names seem to have active derivatives action.
Thanks FF.
I do not feel up to the pace or speed of the daytraders,
nor have the expertise of the good chart readers
(aka chart whisperers, you know who you are!),
but learn incrementally, thanks to you guys.
I need to apply myself more,
be a little more studious (about TA and/or options).
I know about the famous Black-Scholes model
for option pricing,
i.e. I know the name, but not how to use it, LOL.
I took diff-e during a very turbulent time,
and did not learn it very well.
The math is heavy to lift at my age.

You could paper-trade - nothing lost nor gained.
The ole' port' is rather ratty today on a hot green St. Patty's Day, except for the "candy".
FF, sounds like you are having success flipping, not flopping.
For less than 3 months, I call 400%-500% good, very good!
Not trading options here.
a small port of $ to play with to play Options ... but not really Good at it ... I'm up around 400 to 500% from the first of the yr but
Agreed.
I need the stomach to hold tight.
Today, it seems like Mr. Market
is not too perturbed by Crimean situation.
EBIX: cognitive dissonance today, JJ?
Nah, I doubt it.
KNDI, DANG, VIPS, STV, CYOU, VISN, YOKU, BIDU, YGE, NQ, whatever.
Chinese stocks taking a beating this afternoon.
PLUG: good job.
I wanted to short in the 11s this morning,
but had to go away for awhile.
Aqua, I thought of you when I saw that big NBG move.
You have the Jan'15 calls, right?
Good luck.
Just watching!

Go Gapster Tankster Hamvestor!
That PLUG is really plugging away this morning.
Without me.
Newbie question: can anyone point me to a list of securities that trade weekly options?
Nice trade Roy! And kudos to others, too.
Looks like everyone busy.
I haven't stopped in on this board for quite awhile.
Not in options,
but perhaps one day.
Nice job, Ico!
And I don't even know what PPHM is.
I'm having an unbroken run
of picking gappers as tankers
and tankers as gappers.
Need to fix that.
Short news piece similar to others I've seen.

What happened to the market at 1:30PM ET?
I go out for a walk and some lunch,
and things took a dive...
Great picks, Stuffit!
(And terrible ones by me...)
Gapper XGTI
I have no idea, but this doubled since announcing assignment of a cognitive radio patent to optimize spectrum use.
12:48 PM ET, 03/03/2014 - Street Insider
xG Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: XGTI) 53.9% HIGHER; has announced that it has been awarded a key cognitive radio patent for enabling high-performance spectrum sharing. Cognitive radios that can enable spectrum sharing are widely seen as a solution to the rising demand for high bandwidth wireless services. This patent, "Measurement Coordination for Dynamic Spectrum Access Measurements in a Time Division Duplex System" (U.S.P.T.O. #8,660,136), is an important part of xG's industry-leading Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) technology. It allows base stations to coordinate their measurements of spectrum usage and jointly determine optimum channels to use for communications. The patent protects xG's ability to deliver high-performance mobile cognitive radio systems that can operate in challenging and crowded frequencies.
