Another PR about SURE -
(It's not been released yet over here)

News March 13, 2003
New Zealand firm backs bid for Australian food irradiation plant
NEW Zealand's biggest fruit and vegetables importer has signed a
deal to back the bid for a new kind of food irradiation plant in
Australia.
Turners and Growers, headquartered in Auckland, has entered a
joint venture with the US-based SureBeam Corporation which
uses electron beam technology to rid pests from tropical fruits.
SureBeam Australia managing director Michael Daysh said the
agreement injected vital capital into the company while it sought
approval from food safety and quarantine regulators.
A go-ahead from food ministers and Biosecurity Australia for
irradiation of tropical fruit would lead SureBeam to seek further
business partners to build a $16m plant in northern Australia,
Daysh said.
"We would build it close to the fruit or close to an international
airport so it could be anywhere from Sydney to Darwin or Cairns,
" he said.
"This would open up the United States, New Zealand and some
north Asian markets to Australian tropical fruit growers."
Export potential was estimated at around $50m over five to 10 years.
"This is an excellent opportunity to increase the range of tropical
fruits available to New Zealand consumers," Turners and Growers
ceo Don Turner said.
"SureBeam technology is a proven system that will safely address
the significant bio-security constraints that Australian tropical fruits
currently face."
Queensland was potentially the closest and most cost-competitive
source of tropical fruit but pests such as fruit fly led NZ importers
to source mangoes from Peru and Ecuador. Other pests claimed to
be safely eliminated by e-beam irradiation include seed weevil in
mangoes, macadamia nut borer in lychees, and scale and mealy-bugs
which infest a range of fruits.
Australian growers could also export longans, rambutan, mangosteens
and breadfruit if irradiation was permitted, Daysh said.
Irradiation of food has been banned in Australia since 1999, but
food ministers have permitted an exemption to allow irradiation of
herbs, spices and herbal teas using cobalt 60.
SureBeam uses commercially available electricity to disinfest fruits
by bombarding them with electron beams. The technology has been
in use for two years in Hawaii, allowing the export of papaya to California.
The Australia New Zealand Food Authority said it is currently conducting
a safety assessment of e-beams and would put a draft food standard on
the technology out for public comment in March.
SURE - Significant news today!
This seems like a unique opportunity - SURE had taken a fall in stock price when its CEO announced that he was leaving SURE to command another company. The press release said that SURE was in capable hands regarding management. But Merrill downgraded and the stock price fell from about 4.50 to 3.00.
Today's news regards the application of SURE technology to save crops in a quarantined area of CA. The entire citrus crop of the San Diego area (130 sq. mi) is at risk.
Here's the news!

bbgold: I hopped on today! (SMTR)
I keep an eye on Island for momentum trends in cases like these (when I miss the initial run) I noticed that there was a groundswell of support at the low .20s! I hadn't seen that kind of action in awhile!!

SMTR news
Penny stock SmarTire Systems (SMTR:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research - analysis) doubled in early trading after putting a patent dispute with TRW Automotive behind it.
The company said late Monday that it reached a settlement in which its royalty-free access to a TRW patent was reinstated, as long as it can come up with $850,000 it owes the company. The patent is for motion-detection technology SmarTire uses in its tire-monitoring system.
SmarTire said in February that it had missed payments on money it owed TRW under a debenture, leading to suspension of the patent. TRW Automotive was recently bought by private equity firm Blackstone Group.
SmarTire's shares more than doubled to 16 cents on the news.
SMTR - Sold at .40!!
Unbelieveable!!! What a run!!!

Took my profits on WEL!
I had bought in at .30, so when I saw the run begin I put in .65 as a sell price.
It may double again, but I'm satisfied with the sure thing.
Looking now for something else!! Back to research....
WEL/HAL in the news this evening

Hey NoMoDo -
Why was 11K and change disgorged from him? Was that amount different from the actual amount that he realized in the pump and dump? If so, how did the SEC arrive at that exact amount? I've not followed the story that closely, like some of you who are closer to the action.
LMD - the answer is "no".
If IBCL is going to stay on the pinks, then they are not required to file. In fact the company is not required to do business for the shares to continue to trade on the pinks. But the longer they go without filing, the more difficult it is to get back onto the OTCBB/BBX.
MrCFO2U:
It seems that Mr. Moses did, indeed, sell into the buying frenzy created by his "alleged" misleading press releases.
["Saw this on RB Board. Does this mean TM sold stock on the price upswing from the fraudulant P/R's ?"]
WEL played, Mr. Ed!
It's up about a dime since your post yesterday!
Nice call on WEL, Mr Ed.
Timing is ...... everything!
Mr. Ed - Nice response.
The truth is, about story stocks and OTCBB/pinksheet stocks -- they're all plays! How many people here own OTCBB stocks that they've had for years?
It's called "speculation" - what each of us does on every single penny play.
I disagree, bb, about WEL
You said that it is in "horrible shape". The loan was taken out in December. How many payments could they have missed? And it was for a million bucks. I think that the Market cap is around 18 million, isn't it? They could pay them back with 2.5 million shares to make the issue go away.
Admittedly, a company that is having trouble repaying a million bucks has some cash flow problems, but under the circumstances illustrated in the most recent NBC news (Saddam sending explosives to the oil fields) lenders would be happy to front WEL some cash if they have a deal to put out oil fires when Saddam goes ballistic.
Now, bb, you have a habit of bashing stocks that anyone else posts here. These (especially the ones under .50) are all companies with issues. WEL's issue is that there's not been a whole lot of need recently for companies that put out oil well fires. Now there is.
I contend that there's a good chance that WEL will put the payment default issue to rest. If you have done some DD and have vital information to the contrary, bb, please share it. If you don't, then your "negative speculation" is little more than bashing.
I think that suggesting that one do his own dd is the answer, because that's the bottom line, isn't it?
For me the bottom line is that I have a few shares of WEL, but my real money will stay in NASDAQ stocks - Lots of upside there, IMO. And I'm in WEL at .30, so I'm not going to lose money on the deal. But let's stay away from undermining each others' pick's, okay? - Unless you've got some solid information that everyone else needs to know about. In that case, by all means, share it!!
Did you all see WWFI?

WASHINGTON, Feb 6 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday temporarily suspended the stock of International BioChemical Industries, Inc. (OTC BB:IBCL.OB - News) over questions about the company's public statements.
"Questions...have been raised about the accuracy and adequacy of publicly disseminated information that, among other things, indicated that the federal government had contacted IBCL to discuss the effectiveness of the company's products in the war on bioterrorism," the SEC said in a statement.
The company last traded on the bulletin board for 9 cents per share on Wednesday. The suspension will last until Feb. 20, the SEC said.

BB - about WLDI -
They've had a dilution situation there for at least two years now! One has to wonder if they would go up if they were putting their secuity panels in every school in America! Besides that, there's just not enough volume out there now to induce any kind of sustained surge upward. Maybe that'll change one of these days.
