Do they really have any other choice? IMHO, I don't think so.
Snow
spaarky,
IMHO, you hit the nail on the head. AMD's CPU business is worth far more than the graphics but they leveraged all their CPU business assets to aquire their graphics business. Thus their debt problems.
Snow
Dear Peter,
I would like to share some data with you:
Q306: $1.30B
Q406: $1.50B
Q107: $1.63B
Q207: $1.27B
Q307: $1.79B
What are these figures you ask? I'll tell you, it's the profits Intel made since it launched those so called "defective" C2D's you're talking about. Guess your the only one that thinks C2D has a fatal flaw because millions of customers don't.
Snow
It's stuff like this that pisses me off. Hector screws the pooch with a piss poor business plan and the people actually doing the work get laid off. What a terrible time of the year to lose their jobs, I feel for anyone that gets cut.
Snow
Chipguy,
Ditto, my E6700 has been running for well over a year now and not one crash, system hang, or anything. Best CPU I've ever owned.
Snow
LMAO... Now that's funny. :)
Snow
LOL, that's what I though when I engaged with India Developers. Of course I learned something. While they may be a third of the cost of a US developer, my project ran over by 3X.. Sum zero game.
Snow
mmoy,
I hear the same thing. I've heard the figures 40-50% turnover thrown around. I also hear it's not uncommon for Engineers and Software Developers in India to get a big corporate name under their belt then jump ship for higher pay then repeat the process.
Snow
Kind of interestng to see how easily Intel converted the Mac fanatics. Guess they love so many new product offerings in just a little over a year.
Snow
CyberPower has them too

Makes you wonder how much AMD will be or has contributed to Sen. Charles Schumer and Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand's campaigns.
You got to admit, AMD knows how to play politics.
Snow
No bias on his part ehe? :)
Snow
smooth,
Agreed. I'm a little anxious about such a large change too. It's something to keep our eyes on. So far, things look good though, i.e. booting multiple OS's on first Si.
Snow
Congrats Golfbum2 :) I hope you recieved the package you wanted.
Snow
BINGO!!
Mas,
So you're not passionate about AMD nor are you a fanatic, you're just an AMD apologist and here to show Intel invetors the errors of their ways?
Duke and KPF,
I don't consider asking what drives someone's passion a personal attack. Also, I wasn't responding to any post or argument mas made, it was a new post attempting to find out what drives mas to spend so much time posting on this board and the AMD board.
Snow
Amen to that. I think many, many, people are in the same position.
Snow
Yeah, it's pretty bad when expectations for a company like AMD are so low that having three consequtive quarterly losses is a good thing. After all, it's not like they're a start up company where you expect a loss for a couple years. <shakes head>
Snow
Damn Alan, you just dated yourself big time! :)
Snow
Good luck Team Mate! I hope you find another postion at Intel while in redeployment. Sorry to hear the news.
Snow
It's Cameron, he's proven to be a zealot on the MF.
Snow
Finally! Been working my ars off and it's good to see the results.
Snow
It seems as though Intel is guilty until proven innocent in your eyes. Does the EC operate on the same principle or is your bias simply showing through?
Snow
Grrr,
What is the lowest TDP on the Athlon 64 X2, 2.6GHz, 1MB-L2?
Snow
BTW, when are those 2.5GHz Barc's supposed to be launched?
Snow
What makes a person spend so many hours a day obsessed over something when they don't stand to gain or lose anything of value?
Elmer, I've often thought about this too and I've wondered if Mas does alot of his posting while at work. If so, I'm amazed. I'm barely able to read through the board at lunch time let alone respond to any of the posts. If he posts during work, I wonder how much time he actually spends practicing his profession vs posting on this board. Wonder what his boss would think if he/she knew.
Snow
LMAO
Snow
Don't forget margins.. Intel got beat up over that last quarter.
Snow
I'm going to pretend to be mas for a second.
What if the volumes of Barcelona have ramped and the demand is so high that AMD is shipping 75 units a day to Newegg and Newegg is selling all 75 units every day? It would show they are out of stock. See, Barc is killing Intel!
How did I do?
Snow
Interesting. Wouter, you were there, did you get the same impression as Anand?
Snow
I normally miss the details, but this time I noticed the slide posted at the Inq only showed 45W products. Is it possible they conveniently forgot to post the higher watt products where Phenom is most likely to land?
Snow
No problem, I still think he's a little unrealistic but that's for the courts to decide.
Snow
You are correct, I had to read the article rather than the origonal post to get this information.
Snow
Let's play this scenario out. AMD had ~20% market share and believes it would've had 40% if it weren't for Intel's practices. Is this realistic? Did AMD have the capacity to garner 40% market share or is this just wishfull thinking? If I remember correctly, AMD has been claiming for years that it sold every processor it made. This changed when Intel's NGMA arrived and competition became more difficult because of Intel's superior price and performance.
Snow
But if AMD's future is so bright, why would he make a lateral move to Freescale?
Snow
I hope you have a LOT of patience grasshopper. ;)
Snow
Excellent! Thanks for posting Jay!
Snow
And you know this for a fact? How? Do you have access to a sample population of IT Purchasing Professionals that have shared this information with you?
Snow
Vultures picking at the bones of a dead animal. :)
Snow
Make that two data points :) I built my Core 2 E6700 based system in September 2006 and haven't had any crashes, errors, or anything. IT'S ROCK SOLID!!!
