Homeland Security Group International Teams With Dulles, Virginia Manufacturer to Introduce Lightweight Ballistic Body Armor to US Military
Colonel Jeffrey A. Powers, CEO of Homeland Security Group International, Inc. (OTC: HMSG) announced today that the company's Ballistics Division has signed an agreement with Dulles, Virginia-based Protective Enterprises, LLC to represent them in negotiations with the US Military aimed at introducing a revolutionary new lightweight ballistic body armor material.
HMSG's Ballistics Division previously announced they were placing increased emphasis on the focus of lightweight armor. Beginning in the first week of 2006, the company began test firing numerous samples of composite material from many manufacturers utilizing varying caliber test rounds including NATO 9mm, .45Caliber, 5.56 and 7.62., HMSG stated their goal was to find, test and market to the US Military, an alternative to the currently issued small arms protective inserts (SAPI). "The current plates are very heavy," commented HMSG's CEO, Jeffrey Powers. "We chose Protective Enterprises' new composite plate because it is much lighter than the currently issued ceramic plates and these plates have achieved NIJ Level III (Rifle) and Level IIIA. These plates sustained multiple hits from 5.56 and 7.62 and the rounds were unable to penetrate. Another great characteristic of these plates is that they are neutral buoyant, which means they float."
"Our goal has always been to find and produce the lightest possible panels capable of stopping high velocity rounds," continued Powers. "We have been working closely with our manufacturing partner Protective Enterprises, LLC and we are now confident we have a product that will protect our troops and allow them greater mobility while wearing their armor. The side armor problem is one we have placed increased emphasis on because we have seen a spike in wounds caused by rounds and shrapnel impacting the body in areas of the torso not covered by ballistic armor. Numerous articles have reported that military members in combat are sometimes not wearing their full compliment of armor protection due to its weight, bulkiness and because it restricts movement. Solving this problem, along with providing full torso protection, has been, and continues to be our top priority."
The company has also designed a new carrier for side ballistic inserts based on the needs of the Department of Defense as stated in a pre-solicitation notice posted on Feb 18, 2006, The US Army intends to purchase 966,000 sets of Interceptor type body armor, Enhanced Side Ballistic Inserts and Carriers.
"Our joint venture partner Recon Mountaineer has designed a new side armor protection carrier to facilitate the wearing of these new plates," said Powers. "Recon Mountaineer is also in the final stages of design of a drastically new outer vest to compete with the Interceptor vest. Protective Enterprises will provide the necessary ballistic lining for our new 'Ballistic Vest System' as well as front, back and side armor plates capable of stopping high velocity rounds."
The company also stated Recon Mountaineer has integrated a revolutionary new material into the Ballistic Vest System designed to mitigate the effects of blunt force trauma caused by the impact of high velocity rounds.
ABOUT NIJ STANDARDS
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Standard establishes minimum performance requirements and test methods for the ballistic resistance of personal body armor designed to protect the torso against gunfire. The standard is limited to ballistic resistance only and does not address resistance from knives or other sharply pointed objects. It reviews NIJ body armor classifications, details requirements (i.e., acceptance criteria, workmanship, armor backing material, and so forth), and discusses test methods (i.e., velocity measurement equipment, wet conditioning, test preparation, and so forth). Level IIIA armor is designed to protect against 9mm Full metal jacketed round nose bullets up to and including 44magnum hand gun rounds. Level III Rifle is designed to protect against high velocity rifle rounds up to and including 7.62mm Full Metal Jacketed bullets.

EGEI News..
eGene Announces Its HDA-GT12(TM) System That Shows Compatibility of Detecting Influenza A Virus, Known as the Avian Flu Virus
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 2006--eGene Inc. (OTCBB:EGEI), developers of rapid DNA analyzers, announced today that its HDA-GT12(TM) Genetic Analyzer shows compatibility of detecting the influenza A virus, commonly known as the avian flu virus. The automatic analysis process is less than six minutes. The company has demonstrated that its system platform can handle 12 RT-PCR amplified virus samples in six minutes, or at a sample analysis rate of two samples per minute.
As an acute respiratory infection, rapid detection of the influenza A virus is important. "The virus naturally infects humans and other mammalian species such as swine, horse and avian species," said Dr. Ming Liu, acting CEO of the company. "The concerns of a human outbreak of the avian influenza virus have raised significant concerns. Our system can rapidly detect whether we are dealing with an ordinary flu strain or the more serious avian strain. Furthermore, genetic analysis is one of the effective ways to determine whether the virus has mutated to a point where it is dangerous to humans. The need to perform this analysis rapidly cannot be understated in today's world where an airplane ride can transmit a virus thousands of miles in a short period of time."
The HDA-GT12 system uses a consumable multi-channel cartridge that can be used to detect multiple influenza samples simultaneously. The cartridge is engaged to eGene's system and can automatically inject and analyze 12 DNA samples at the same time for results available in six minutes, or for 96 samples from a PCR plate for results available in 50 minutes -- less than an hour.
"This automated and affordable system can be easily operated for avian influenza virus detection," said Dr. Liu.
He noted that eGene recently tested its system utilizing the reagents from In-Vitro Diagnostic FluAVision kits provided by DNA Technology A/S (Denmark). Positive control of influenza A from the testing kit was used for amplification and analyzed with the eGene HDA-GT12 system.
Previously, eGene explained that its analyzer, if placed in airports and other ports of entry throughout the world, can be used to determine if the flu virus is present in the DNA samples of travelers entering -- or leaving -- a given locale.
"The fact that our compact, low-cost, automated digital genetic analysis system platform can do the detection and analysis work in a short time means that should a flu pandemic break out, our system could easily detect and notify officials of a virus carrier who may not be exhibiting physical symptoms of the flu. This is very important, because with illnesses like the flu, the virus is already present and multiplying even in the absence of physical symptoms," explained Dr. Liu. "This could potentially stop the spread of the flu."
eGene currently sells its HDA-GT12 system in more than 100 hospitals and research centers worldwide, and is looking to expand U.S. distribution.
The HDA-GT12(TM) Genetic Analyzer analyzes the genetic fingerprints of living organisms through the microsatellites AFLP and RFLP. It performs fast DNA sample screening and high-resolution DNA fragment analysis (2-5bp). The system also analyzes the quality and quantity of total RNA and cRNA, determines the efficiency of cRNA and cDNA amplification reactions and ensures quality of fragmented cRNA. The company sells cartridges that are specific to the type of analysis to be performed. All data is then received in digital form for appropriate transmission and storage.
About eGene Inc.
eGene Inc. (www.egeneinc.com) focuses its core technologies of capillary electrophoresis, microfluidics, liquid handling and automation to develop and manufacture low-cost microfluidic, miniaturized digital genetic analyzer systems, software and consumables for biological materials testing applications. Did anyone watch the History channel lastnight? It was on stopping bullets. Big part of the show was Armor is heavy and the potential weak areas (sides just as discussed in this PR) Hmmmm amazing timing.
WAG - 2/22/06 6:04 am
As I have said before I work for a Goverment Contractor. When we have NEW designs that are needed in IRAQ.. once we pass all the test right into a contract, then shipped to Iraq. It is possible for HMSG to land a some kind of potential contract while there.
Does anyone else find it suspicious the number of bad ticks within the last 3 weeks? I do. Somebody said "something or somebody is holding this stock down intentionally" Proof was yesterday. Everytime this stock is moving a bad tick comes in and kills the momo. IMO it will benefit us very very soon.
Ah thank you. Silver cross. Looks good!
I am certainly happy about this news. Plus... from a chart perpective we have that golden cross thing going.
