Considering investing in LTBG any opinions ?

Wow, that is a great way to promote a new series !!!
OT: Iranian situation
I hope I'm wrong but I believe a scenario similar to the one I discussed is a real possibililty.
This administration has been doing alot of saber rattling over iran since dubbya's State of the (Monarchy) Union speech.
Also understand that the islamic regime in Iran poses a threat to our best buds in the Arab world the House of Saud. You know .... the country that provided the suicide bombers that took out the World Trade Center and a part of the pentagon.
-Alt
OT: israeli incursion over iraq
Jim do you think this administration would shoot down an israeli task force to takeout an iranian Nuclear Power plant ?
-Alt
OT: Energy Stocks
Roni you should find this interesting.
With political hardliners in israel, palestine and iran winning support its becoming highly likely that the israeli's will strategically strike iranian nuclear powerplants. The ramifications of such a move could interept oil supply out of the middle east. U.S. Energy prices could soar even higher. The current US administration is looking into a revival of nuclear power as a quick fix. Prepare for higher energy prices and invest in energy stocks poised to rise.
Most importantly Do your Due Diligence before investing in any stock.

Re: AAPL's Fairplay DRM is...
...a monopoly product that AAPL refuses to license to anyone else.
How is this different from RealNetworks or Microsofts DRM ?
Its an individuals choice to be locked in.
My iPod plays Mp3's and AIFF files just fine.
How does any company convince a record label to license digital music you sell without restrictions ? Its sounds to me your beef is with the RIAA. ?
-Alt
IP Protection vs DRM
hell, look at yourself, a year ago you were all anti-DMCA(sic), now you're a happy shareholder spinning their tactics.
Apple's Intellectual Proprerty rights beyond Mac OS X is a different kettle of fish. Digital Rights Management for Video and Audio is a much bigger and more profound issue.
AAPL's Fairplay DRM is still more liberal than Windows Media Video (WMV) or Real for what its worth.
Also keep in mind that software exists to circumvent DRM files.
Electronic Frontier Foundation has a guide comparing the DRM's
http://www.eff.org/IP/DRM/guide/
DMCA WikiPedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMCA
WLD not even close
No AAPL has a long way to go before they rival Microsoft on that score.
Their actions are perfectly understandable and - considering Apple is the world's leading company at foisting DRM, DCMA, AACS, and every other bit of content-restricting technology onto consumers - their actions are perfectly in line with their corporate philosophy and long-term direction.

AAPL Myth
Many people like to think that Apple is more than a business it isn't.
... its not some charitable institution.
I was referring to the fact that shutting down those websites was considered harsh.
Apple has done some great stuff but business is still business modifying Mac OS X for x86 to use illegally is stealing and Apple has every right to combat that.
-Alt
re: DMCA
Apple is a Hardware and Software Business its not some charitable institution. Apple has been very liberal in its licensing and its support policies but Apple has every right to defend its Intellectual property.
Their are clear delineations between Open Source and Commercial software.
IMHO, Apple could better serve the marketplace by licensing Mac OS X for x86 but its clearly their choice and how they defend there Intellectual Property rights is also strictly up to them.
Apple's future is not contingent on wether they use DMCA. Apple's future is based on providing excellent products and services at competitive prices.
Compare Mac OS X pricing with its bundled applications versus Windows XP Professional and you begin to see Apple's advantages.

Mac OS X for x86
If you took a look at that image from behind steve jobs you would find Mac OS X for x86 that Mikey Dell would like to sell but cannot have.

...Implementing new thangs.
If Apple had not existed as a company its doubtful that many cutting edge technologies over the last thirty years would have been implemented. If people don't understand why Apple is a good investment substitute the word Microsoft for the word Apple in the previous sentence and see if it makes sense.
Or flip the coin: by maintaining its own OS and having control over the hardware, Apple was able to get USB off the drawing board and into volume production. When had you seen USB keyboards, USB external drives, USB pointers ... before the iMac? Nobody in the Wintel world could do it. Apple did. Then once peripherals were made for the market, Wintel could take advantage of the fact. But without Apple to ditch old legacy tech, there was no secure market for new manufacurers (the same can be said for BIOS).

No mystery ...
AAPL's fundamentals are still strong. Quickly bumping up the MacBook Pro specs and the iPod news helped.
This is not to say that their will not be bumps in the road for AAPL. I'm still buying in on dips.

Apple Fundamentals
Remain 'Strongest in Technology'
Maya Roney, 02.15.06, 4:44 PM ET
American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu maintained a "buy" rating on Apple Computer, expecting the company to continue to grow above market rates over the next one to two years.
"We continue to believe that Apple's fundamentals remain sound and arguably among the strongest in technology, but negative investor sentiment and its weak technicals may indicate further share price downside," wrote the analyst in a research note Wednesday.
"For longer term fundamental investors, we would take advantage of the pull-back to build and/or add to Apple positions."
Late Tuesday, Apple (nasdaq: AAPL - news - people ) released the Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4.5, an updated version of its operating system software for both Intel (nasdaq: INTC - news - people ) and PowerPC Macs.
This update fixes the well-publicized video glitch that Apple had with its FrontRow software on an Intel-based iMac Core Duo, in-line with Wu's expectation that this would be a software fix and not a hardware component problem that many feared would require a recall.
Also on Tuesday, Apple announced that its MacBook Pro is shipping, despite speculation that it may be delayed until April, and with faster-than-expected Intel processors.
Wu's proprietary checks with industry and channel sources revealed that Intel's yields have improved, enabling Apple to ship more high-end Core Duo systems.

I expect more AAPL volatility in the near future but by late fall of this year even the bears on this board will want to be back in.

Still .... doubling sales sounds like a pretty lofty goal.
How are sales going ?
Are iPods still in very high demand ?
Have sales slowed significantly since the holiday quarter ?
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

IMHO, we will have many more AAPL buying opportunities between now and the next quarterly results.
Doubling Apple PC Share is a daunting task.

10.4.5 Upgrade of Mac Mini
Apple is definetly throwing some serious Valentines our way.
Nice speed improvements in Safari thanks to 10.4.5.
Those looking to Upgrade remember to run a good maintenance utility before the upgrade.
Applejack 1.4.2 or Onyx 1.6.6 works for me.

Zippy 7200 RPM w 8 Mb Cache
But what difference do you actually see in a notebook with a faster drive?
In my case the 7200 rpm drive has made a huge speed difference running Tiger 10.4 on my well seasoned 400 mhz G4 Titanium Powerbook. Another Great Tip is to Partition the Hard disk and move the swap file to a non system partition. I average a 10 % speed improvement with most Applications because of that simple tip.

OT: IMHO, the Cheney story is being pumped up to side step the bigger issues that have been revealed about this administration, like wiretapping American's without probable cause.
-Alt
OT: This Cheney story is so overblown.
The Real important stories aren't getting covered like our defrauded tax dollars by FOD&C (friends of Dubbya & Cheney) , iraqi war profiteering exposed on 60 Minutes this last sunday. The Abramoff scandal. The Katrina Fema debacle which is a national disgrace. The absurd Federal budget. Instead we get Cheney lampooned as Elmer Fudd.
It all just Bread and Circuses.

Leveraging iPod Sales
90+% of iPods are sold to Windows users. If the goal is to leverage the iPod to make a CPU sale, then aim the coupon at making that happen -- aim it specifically at the Mac Mini.
great ideas !!!
I'd also include an engraved invitation to attend an APPLE seminar at a regional store or at least an online webcast demoing Mac OS X and iLife with info on migrating Windows systems to Mac OS X.

AAPL Speculation
AAPL needs to retrace 70.50 a share to regain momentum.
Option Expiry a week from now could make this difficult.
I expect AAPL to establish a range between $64.00 - $70.00 range with possibly short dips into the lower 60 -64 a share range.
I'll be buying AAPL shares again on dips between now and April 1 st.
Also I'll be accumulating DIS and ALVR.

Analysts remain upbeat on Apple, downplay concerns
By Katie Marsal
Published: 03:00 PM EST
Investor concerns over the Intel transition and other aspects of Apple's business continue to weigh on the company's shares, but analysts alike remain confident in the Mac maker's strategy and are so far unwilling to shelve or alter their predictions of future growth.
"The recent stock action reminds us of a lull period last year from March to June 2005 when the stock corrected from $45 to $33, said Shaw Wu, an analyst for American Technology Research. "Interestingly, negative investor sentiment drove the stock weakness with comments and questions including: 'it can't get better', 'has Apple peaked?', and 'is growth slowing?' similar to ones we are hearing today."
"We believe the answers to these questions remain the same and it is that Apple has yet to see its best," Wu added.
Over the next 12-24 months, the analyst expects to see a Mac upgrade cycle of Intel Macs, continued penetration of iPod+iTunes in digital music and video, and an extension of both the Mac and iPod+iTunes franchises into new business areas such as home entertainment servers, cell phones, and other consumer electronics.
"We view this as a great opportunity to take advantage of this lull period to build or add to Apple positions," Wu said. "We believe a key metric to watch remains its progress in transitioning to Intel processors."
Gene Munster, an analyst for PiperJaffray, offered similar sentiments on Tuesday.
"We believe the stock has sold off primarily based on investor perception regarding the potential for an air pocket in growth over the next 1-2 quarters due to the Intel transition," Munster wrote in a research note obtained by AppleInsider. "Many investors are concerned that growth from existing Macs will slow as customers wait for new Macs and many also anticipate that the transition will be drawn out on the professional side by a lack of readiness from major software vendors such as Quark, Microsoft, and Adobe."
The analyst argues that Apple has, and will continue to have, various growth curves in different parts of its business that sometimes may not be in sync with eachother. "To look at a potential short-term trough in these curves and extrapolate the business based on this period is short-sighted in our minds," he said.
