If only we were a gold mine :(
But I do agree with ya! There is nothing wrong with Gold/Silver/Copper prices rising. Hopefully the mill will be back up and producing again!

Richard the Realtor says:
They simply are saying very clearly that they don't know.
Some serious games are being played here.... MMs fishing for limit sells?
Thanks CopperKen!
So he is alive!!
Found it under #62422 :)
Thanks again,
Lucky
Aye! "IF"
At this time I'm not very worried at all about the tailings. Again they've been there for over 6 months and we haven't heard or seen anything to lead us to believe there is an issue.
On a different note - Has anyone heard from CM? I've sent him a few emails and haven't gotten a reply.
TGIF!
-Lucky
No odds?
Sorry if I've come across as difficult when it comes to this issue but this is one of my sell triggers. “IF” the company is dumping contaminants into the water supply, I know everyone in the county and state (let alone the Feds) will want blood from them. You think this shutdown sucks…?? Personally, I don’t want to be invested in a company that would have to answer and deal with that. We’d all have to kiss this puppy goodbye.
-Lucky
"Potentially contaminated"
Those tailings have been there since Oct 09! Six months...!! Now I'm no expert on milling tailings (although that may chance if we keep this up) but the DOGM has known about this issue and I'd bet the farm that they've notified the EPA about it. It wouldn't be the first time they've been to the mill (I don't know the regs on EPA inspections or how often they conduct them). I hope after six months the EPA would have made a visit to the mill, IF there is a problem with the tailings.
So, here we are six months later and nothing from the EPA.
Well, about the "compliant" tailings pond...we all know about that and the docs have been posted (here) showing tons of details about how we're not compliant. We also know the company is working on addressing these issues and have a plan (link provided below) that's been submitted to the DOGM.
To be honest, I wasn't talking about that. I was asking about your claim that the company is and I'll quote you - "Furthermore our kick ass mill operator has been letting the toxic tailings run out the back door." Maybe you were a little emotional when you posted and got carried away and forgot to say something along the lines of “Maybe” or “I think” but I’m sure other’s will interpret the statement as fact or that you know something here. Claims like this left unchecked, or shall I say uncorrected could turn potential investors away. Until this is proven I call B.S.
You wanted to know how much it'll cost to become environmentally compliant? Here is a REALLY good WAG - https://fs.ogm.utah.gov/FILES/MINERALS/PERMITS/001/M0010067/2010/Incoming/0008.pdf (pages 32-34)
(User name & password = ogmguest)
Also, look here for more details:
Operation Plan
106.9 Proposed Location and Size of Ore & Waste Stockpiles, Tailings Pond, and Discharges (page 17-18)
Reclamation Plan (pages 27-29)
Quotes of note:
“There will be no water storage/treatment ponds, nor any water discharges, associated with any aspect of this facility.” Page 18
“There would be no acid forming or deleterious material present at the site. Therefore, no deleterious or acid forming material would be left on-site.” Page 28
Hope this helps,
Lucky
Coppercamel, I respectfully request you share with us how you know these issues exist.
I’m up to date on the DOGM site which documents all inspections done at the site. In the past I’ve spoken to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (contacted 4 Divisions by phone/email) about such claims that CPRK is contaminating the water or dumping “toxic tailings” and found ABSOLUTELY nothing.
Now, if you’re saying there is new evidence to support your post please share the info, data, link, etc. and I’ll gladly contact the Utah DEQ and either 1) tell them about this (if they don’t already know) and/or 2) get their reports detailing this issue to share with the board.
Thanks in advance,
Lucky
BTW – The 4 Divisions of the DEQ I contacted and the POCs are as follows:
Department of Environmental Quality: Laurie Leib: 801-536-4440
Division of Drinking Water: Carolyn Esser: 801-536-4200
Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste: Terry Montgomery: 801-538-6759
Division of Water Quality: Brianna Ariotti: 801-538-7066
Utah-D, I never thought of it that way! I always immediately thought contamination meant the “floatation reagents”.
Now that’s an excellent question to ask someone in the “know”..!!
-Lucky
Doh, the terrible 2s! It sounds like you definitely have your hands full! :)
I was only asking because “I” could have missed something. After looking at the document again I could only find these comments that dealt with possible water contamination.
Comment #:
#7 – “How will this impact the ground water?”
#9 – “How is this affecting ground water and have samples of the tailings been taken?”
#24 – Talks about the current impact of the tailings but this no longer applies (the mill is down) and they’re working on the new lined tailings pond.
IIRC, they have a few test wells around the mill that are used to help detect for water contamination. I’m sure the company respects the fact that water in this area is a precious resource. They’ve developed a plan to adhere to local, state and federal guidelines regarding it’s protection and reclamation. They just need to execute…
-Lucky
HAHA! Classic!
He provided a link or supporting info after he posted that claim didn't he?
I hate to be a bother but could you point me to the "comment #" you're talking about?
Thanks!
Lucky
Eh, if he actually provided a link or anything that supported his claims I would take him off ignore in a heartbeat.
Usually I'd agree with the "under-informed" statement but the new leadership quickly issued this PR to let everyone know the mill was shut down.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=48498439
I also beileve this was the first PR of it's type (not exactly positive).
-Lucky
No one has stated the ground water is contaminated. The DOGM asked, "What is the impact or how does this affect the ground water?".
I'm fairly certain that if there was an issue with contaminated ground water the company would be slapped with a hefty fine and we'd be reading about it.
-Lucky
I don’t necessarily think this is as bad as some may think.
Missing Dirt – Buy more and have it delivered.
Contaminated Water – What mining mill doesn’t produce contaminated water? They only want the company to explain how they’ll treat the water and reclaim it.
Wrong Combo of Seeds – Easy fix here, they even provided what % and amount to switch the mixture too.
Most of what was stated in the DOGM letter simply requests CPRK to document “how” they’ll address certain issues. The pervious Amended Notice of Intention to Commence Large Mining Ops laid plans for a ton of changes and activities but really didn’t specify “how” they’d execute everything. Some info was left out - acreage, locations of x, y & z, diagrams, projections, etc… They know this information they just need to document it in this filing so the proper approvals can be granted.
Sure there will most likely be a delay while this request is answered but I don’t think it’ll take that long to submit what’s been requested. Also, couldn’t this be handled while the engineers are looking at the mill and recommending changes/process improvements? Seems like this is the best time to get such a notice from the DOGM (while the mill is down). I couldn’t imagine seeing this come through if we’d just restarted the mill.
-Lucky
The hoop jumping continues....

Nah...
I was glad to see us hold .003 today! But (IMO) going forward we're gonna have to hear something from the company or we'll test lower lows :(
-Lucky
Looks like we were shorted 66.73% today. That's the most we've seen in ~4 weeks.

Short Interest:
The Shiz must be busy... I'm not sure who else is tracking this data or if anyone really cares. I began following this shortly after shiznit013 started posting these daily. Haven't found anything as far as a trend (yet) but just like to have another data point on the company and the forces that influence it day in & out.
Date | Short Volume | Total Volume | Short % | Date|Symbol|ShortVolume|TotalVolume|Market
7-Apr-10 | 4,490,500 | 11,094,728 | 40.47% | 20100407|CPRK|4490500|11094728|O
8-Apr-10 | 4,745,843 | 11,501,242 | 41.26% | 20100408|CPRK|4745843|11501242|O
-Lucky
Webtime, I couldn't agree with you more! It is a joke but I was really addressing your claim that, "Maybe CPRK doesn't really have the percentages in the ore they have been claiming for all these years" We all know CPRK sold 450 tons within industry specs for just over 1 million. Your insinuation that they’re being untruthful is what is pathetic. I respect people bringing a different view on what goes on here but there is a line. We definitely get our fair share of rumors, hearsay and speculation on this board. Sometimes outright lies followed by the fluffy pumps but it’s the little nuggets of facts and info that most of us seek.
Everyone thought we'd be WAY further down the road at this point. We've seen some recent changes at the mill, both in the hardware and upper level management. IMO this thing could turn around in a hurry once PK compliance is in place, they get the mill producing again, we get LTF and we become CFP. All of this could happen in a very short period of time. This is why we're all here, isn't it? We know the potential and the risk.
-Lucky
We all know the mill can produce saleable CuCon. We got over a milli for the last batch.
We just need the mill up and running again...!!
-Lucky
Ah, I was out most of last week and didn't read all the posts to get up to date. Thanks for pointing me to your docs!
60-90 days seems like a good estimate but we all know how those estimates go... IMO, we could be waiting awhile. That's if they haven't been working this in parallel with all the other mill upgrades over the past several months.
It would be nice to know where they stand on this issue and to get a revised estimate.
-Lucky
I looked and looked but couldn't find anything that provided a timeline :(
The permit is only good for 1 year. So the clock is definitely ticking.
-Lucky
Speaking of the tailings pond. Here is CPRK's permit for construction. Looks like they now have the green light to proceed... a bit of good news never hurt anyone.
Well, any LONGS that is :)

You betcha TB!
Here's an email that documents the fact they have been working on this for some time. I honestly believe they had hoped everything would fall into place and be ready for the mill restart so they pressed ahead and got "snake bit".
IMO, this was a result of past management decisions as we've seen this type of behavior before.
Yesterday's PR release spoke volumes about the new management! Their first PR touted Integrity. A term you see companies misuse daily. I often wonder if they truly understand what it means... They're not only saying they have it... they actually proved it yesterday by PRing the mill shutdown and laid out their plan on how to address it. In my eyes, CPRK just moved one step closer to transparency. Yes, not on paper but by it's actions.
-Lucky
It's a great read for those wanting to know more about the subject and how the company plans on addressing the issue at hand.
-Lucky
mytvsbroke, not everyone that tours the mill knows all the regulations and compliance rules imposed by the DOGM. Go figure....
Anyways, I'm happy to report the DOGM website is now back up and we can review all the reports filed there! Woohoo!
With that said, I'm not buying all this talk about the company not knowing about the water/tailings pond issue. They began working on this back in Oct 09. Now, I'm not sure if the cold weather and snow stopped the installation of the liner but from the looks of the pics below (taken in Oct 09) they should be fairly close to completing this project.
-Lucky
Thanks Candy B! This is great news!
-Lucky
We should have network problems more often. That's the lowest short % I've seen since I began tracking this stat (only 4 weeks).
Thanks Shiznit013!

Looks like the https://fs.ogm.utah.gov/FILES/MINERALS/PERMITS/001/M0010067/ site has updated their web cert.
Unfortunately, it appears the ogmguest user name and password no longer work :(
Does anyone know the new login info? It would be a shame to loose this resource.
-Lucky
I sent him a few questions late Wednesday afternoon. I didn't get an out of office reply and I haven't heard from him yet.
-Lucky
Hum?? Ever odd...
Your virus/spyware firewall could be proventing you from veiwing the site.
I'm not an IT guy so I'm pretty much all thumbs when it comes to this. I'd try to retrace the link until you can get there. Try removing parts of the link:
"/FILES/MINERALS/PERMITS/001/M0010067/2010/Incoming/
"/FILES/MINERALS/PERMITS/001/M0010067/2010/
"/FILES/MINERALS/PERMITS/001/M0010067
"/FILES/MINERALS/PERMITS/001/
Until you can veiw the site then work your way back to M0010067 (Which is the HT Pit).
Good luck and sorry I couldn't help you out more.

Colorado1 gave us this website last week: http://www.msha.gov/drs/drshome.htm
- Scroll down a bit to Company Name: (fillin) Western Utah Copper (Optional): uncheck Include/Exclude Abandoned Mine
- Click SEARCH
- On the "OK and Hidden Treasure" row, to the far right select, More Info
- In the "Employment/Production Reports for This Mine" section fillin your Calendar Year from (yyyy): & Calendar Year to (yyyy): search criteria
- Leave Quarterly Production Totals selected and select GO
That should display the same table I posted earlier. You'll also be able to find some interesting data in the middle report section (just above the Employment/Production Reports for This Mine area). Just add your Beginning and end Dates then select which report you'd like to view (i.e. Overview, Inspections, Accidents, Violations and so on).
