UWNK closed bid 2.35, ask 2.35. How is that possible, shouldn't an equal bid / ask situation immediately short circuit so that the side with the smaller size is immediately filled from the other side? My impression is that "all or none" orders do not show up, maybe this is an exception?
IMO, a bit off the wall here. A very small investor could own 100 shares and be 100% invested in UWNK, a multi-millionaire 300,000 shares and just be a small %.
I prefer uWink stick to the restaurant and not attempt to compete with Ticketmaster, lol. Do you have ANY idea how much it would cost to set up the infrastructure to effectively compete with http://www.ticketmaster.com/find_area/?tm_link=tm_changeloc_header
"Our 2006 investors have now permanently waived both their right to have their warrants registered and to receive penalty payments for our failure to register their warrants." Permanently..... impressed.
If someone were to post that the restaurant was deserted on a Friday night, wouldn't that matter? Helps us handicap the stock. How about the restaurant being packed, like someone reported? Increases the odds of Franchise interest, IMO.
Chipping at the 2.35 wall.
Probably nobody, just a perspective on how small UWNK's cap is and thus the potential for growth.
2.33 nice. But to put it in perspective total $ volume = about two shares of BRK.A, lol.
Nolan was born on February 5, 1943 according to several web sources. So he is 63 now.
Presumably people approached uWink and said, "I'm from Texas (or wherever), and I'm interested in franchising", and uWink said "get in line, we can't talk to you about it until we've got our legal ducks lined up". That's how uWink knows there is interest from different places in the country without having talked about the business details.
Excellent news. Nice buying going on too.
With all the dining tables jammed, it must have been a nice test for their kitchen and runners to keep up with the touch screen food demand and all the orders straight. What was your impression of this? Thanks for the report.
FWIW that was written on October 17th. Many improvements since then.
Super report, thanks for taking the time to write it up. Confirms what I heard last week via email "Yes every day is busier and busier". I was a bit skeptical about that so I didn't post it, but now it makes sense when viewed week over week.
No idea why the video cuts out for you. The LA KNBC TV video about uWink is now on YouTube, although at lower resolution. See
How about the bar area, was that area crowded too?
http://www.uwink.com/your_la.wmv - this is a pretty impressive video of the uWink store. I posted it in an earlier message but as an edit, not in the original message.
uWink's home page updated, now has more links to stuff, including this: http://www.uwink.com/your_la.wmv - best clips of some of the multiplayer games I've seen. Also has kitchen scenes.
So you deleted all his messages because he doesn't have an "even and fair viewpoint"? A lot of his stuff was good and spawned useful conversation, and the stuff that was off base was usefully challenged. Isn't that the point of discussion boards?
Your "troublesome note" is based on hindsight. You say "Hmmm, so a few months later, MCF can instantly exercise their shares and then sell them in the open market for a 600% profit? Clearly, this is an awful deal for shareholders."
Look at this. The date of the offering was on March 3, 2006. UWNK sold 5,000,000 shares and raised $1,500,000. That is 30 cents a share. The buyers also received 2,500,000 warrants to buy additional shares at .345 per share.
UNWK on March 3, 2006 traded at: Open 25 cents, high 26 cents, low 25 cents, close 26 cents. So at the time of the offering the buyers paid a premium for their shares. UWNK needed $ and people were willing to pay a premium for shares. At the time was this an "awful deal for shareholders" as you say? I think you are 100% wrong here.
The company, at the time, said that raising more $ will be expected. But now the restaurant is open and franchising appears to be imminent and the stock price is much higher now. So to raise another $1,500,000, for example, would cause a MUCH smaller dilution to the shareholder base.
Actually the projection system is better than "providing uwink a list of images they want shown". From what I heard, uWink plans to publish the interface and customers will be able to customize their own image projection show via the net. Still technically "providing a list of images", but the customer will have a lot of control.
For the record, the guy said "pretty much empty" not "empty", none-the-less he should have provided the day of week and time of day as virtually all restaurants have great variability during the course of the day; many high end restaurants will even close between lunch and dinner. Again, my understanding is that the business continues to improve.
I realize my remark about UWNK being three years away from Nasdaq due to the requirement of three years of profitability is wrong. The three years rule is for the Nasdaq Select Global Market. Nasdaq is divided into three markets, the other two being the Nadsaq Global Market, and the Nasdaq Capital Market (formerly the Nasdaq Smallcap Market). The requirements at the Nasdaq Capital Market portion of Nasdaq are much looser.
According to the first Nasdaq Standard, UWNK is at least three years away as the company has to have no losses and no negative cash flow for three years running.
My understanding is that business at the restaurant continues to pick up. All restaurants have times when they are fairly empty, so the guy should have at least said on what day and at what time he was there.
Well it was, but I see it has been restored.
I personally think the restaurant was a lot of fun. The computers / games are part of the environment and if someone wants to go to a restaurant with flat tables, there are a zillion of them. The tech environment there certainly appeals to some people. The learning curve for the card swipes should be quite fast, and as I mentioned earlier there is an option to swipe just once and accumulate a tab. This function clearly needs to be made more obvious as this poster is the second one to mention frustration with it. No biggie. The other advantages of the restaurant include customizing the wall visuals for groups and the stand-alone multiplayer gaming areas.
The guy made some points and I was quite disappointed to see the message deleted.
I thnk we are getting a little trigger happy here. I was able to use the back funtion to see the message that was deleted.
If someone want to delete this one, fine, and I'll leave the board. Some points were worth discussion, IMO, which I post. And I am quite long the stock.

"So, I actually ate here last week. Food was decent, not great, with the exception of a quesadilla app which was awesome.
Place was pretty much empty, especially compared to other restaurants around the mall. Also, we saw two tables of 40 somethings get up and leave because they got frustrated with the ordering system.
All in all, there were many many frustrating things about this restaurant. The big damn computers in the middle of the table made it difficult to talk to each other. The ordering process took far too many steps and involved these annoying swipe cards. The games were simplistic and not particularly engaging."
That's one who fits the targeted demographics........
The contact section on uWink's website work well.......... the restaurant currently has Bud Light, Widmer Hefeweizen, Anchor Steam, Sierra Nevada, Bare Knuckle Stout, and Stella Artois on tap. FWIW, I had the stout and it was excellent, lot like Guinness.
They had four beers on tap when I was there, don't think one was Stella........ not positive.
I noticed the uWink website has been updated in some sections, for example under "Contact" there is info for the Woodland HIlls Restaurant.
Under Franchises, while updating still needed regarding the opening of the first restaurant, it does say "Since hearing about uWink Bistro, many have asked about our plans for franchising. Our current plan is to grow with a combination of company owned restaurants and franchising. We plan on opening up the franchising program in the fourth quarter of 2006. Currently uWink is looking for a few innovative and experienced restaurateurs to become joint venture partners."
So if this information is current, the franchising program should be announced within six weeks.
Repeating what has been said before, there is no debit / credit card swiper on the terminals, rather you are issued a RFID card. The RFID card detector is on the side of the terminals.
Nolan mentioned a patent regarding the way the terminals are inset in the tables, don't know the details or if there is more than one patent.
Yes......... and they mentioned Chuck E. Cheese and Atari ....... great credentials to the story.
I wasn't able to record the clip, otherwise I'd get the one or two or seconds that I was on CNBC (in the far background to the right during one of the setting shots).
Agree completely. Strange bid 2.22, ask 2.20
Edit: CNBC flippers dumping now, but I think the exposure was good. They did show the multiplayer pong although the players weren't that good............ the tiny market cap statement was great. The ticker symbol was not given. And yes I was on TV for one second in the background, just a few pixels but I knew where to look
Cable down - both net and TV down all morning - now back up. Yesterday's PR mentioned the restaurant as the "first uWink restaurant", subtle way of inserting that more are coming without discussing it in that PR.
I bet he called CNBC again like he did last time (see msg 4302). Since I was there during the initial background shoot there is a *****tiny***** chance I may be visible in one of the pan shots, will have to see.............................. The multi-player games weren't up when I was there as were not most of the bar terminals, so maybe they'll scrap the initial footage pan shots (but not the interviews) ........ if CNBC is there live, it would be REALLY COOL if they get the multi-player pong on TV.
2.15 + .51 that 's 33.33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333 % give or take. Oops, take, math way off, sigh.
Actually the quy is pretty smart for an 18 year older. Just needs to attribute more in his work. And to say "premium" yes that is misleading.
I thought his analysis of the following pretty funny with likely some truth behind it..........
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WPT Enterprises, Inc. today announced that following a comprehensive review of its strategic alternatives with the assistance of its financial advisor, it will remain independent and continue to pursue a stand-alone business strategy at this time. The Board of Directors and management believe that the successful execution of this strategy provides the opportunity to enhance shareholder value. WPTE announced on February 7, 2006 that it engaged Thomas Weisel Partners LLC as its financial advisor to assist with its evaluation.
Then his reponse:
Translation: We made such a mess (stock price down about 80% from its high) that we were paying other people to try to find someone to unload this train wreck onto. Unfortunately for you the shareholder, we found no such unwitting victim, and you are stuck with us. We’re ok, because we cashed millions in options when the stock was in the 20's, but if you’re counting on us for your retirement, you may want to consider a trailer park and Alpo.
