Weinstein terminates stake in Genius Products-paper
Sept 15 (Reuters) - The Weinstein Co has terminated its 70 percent interest in home-video distributor Genius Products, the New York Post reported, citing sources close to the situation.
The termination was due to the decision by Genius Products to exit the home-video distribution business, the paper said.
On Sept 14, Genius Products agreed to sell exclusive distribution rights to a collection of brands, including World Wrestling Entertainment, Sesame Street, Classic Media and RHI Entertainment, to Vivendi Entertainment (VIV.PA).
According to the paper, Weinstein, in turn, struck its own deal with Vivendi, which will distribute Weinstein movies on the home-video channel.
Neither Weinstein noe Genius Products could be reached for comment.
While it lost $400 million on paper, a source told the Post Weinstein is "not out any money", as it got the bulk of the stake in exchange for distribution rights to its movies and made only a small financial investment in Genius.
Harvey and Bob Weinstein founded Weinstein Co after they sold Miramax Films, the powerhouse studio behind such 1990s movies as "Pulp Fiction" and "Shakespeare in Love," to Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) in 2005.

More homevid deals for TWC
Weinsteins on lookout for more distributors
The Weinstein Co. may have set up its library of films and direct-to-DVD titles at Vivendi Universal, but the brothers are still looking at a separate distributor for its upcoming homevideo releases.
The company is close to announcing an exclusive home entertainment pact with a major studio. But that could end up being several studios, as TWC sets up deals at various companies around town as it seeks out the best distribution deals for its pics.
Universal Pictures' homevid arm will roll out "Inglourious Basterds" on DVD and Blu-ray later this year, given that it released the film last month.
Yet while some have speculated that U is the likely studio to land the homevid rights for all of TWC's future pics, it won't necessarily be an overall deal, according to TWC co-topper Bob Weinstein.
"We're in talks with multiple companies on our wide releases," he told Daily Variety from the Toronto Film Festival.
That's mainly because setting up an overall deal at one studio could prove difficult if films are released by individual distribs.
Only Universal and 20th Century Fox handle homevideo releases for other studios, with U distribbing Blu-rays and DVDs for Summit Entertainment, while Fox oversees titles for MGM, Lionsgate and Anchor Bay.
TWC will likely use homevideo as a way to broker the most lucrative deals it can when releasing its pics -- especially as it looks for ways to shore up more coin to keep it afloat as an indie.
For now, it will work with Vivendi Entertainment to exploit its catalog and direct-to-DVD biz and start rolling them out on Blu-ray, as part of the company's takeover of the homevid arm of Genius Products. Most of the films have yet to bow on the high-def format. Vivendi will also handle digital distribution to websites and other platforms. TWC had been a majority owner of Genius.
Bob Weinstein called Vivendi Entertainment a "great place to build our home entertainment library" especially to "develop and increase our catalog business ... we look at it as an alliance that will bear fruit on multiple levels."
Don't count U out just yet, however.
What helped seal the Vivendi deal for Genius was the Weinstein's 20-year relationship with Doug Morris, chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group. Vivendi Entertainment is a division of Universal Music Group Distribution.
U Music will also release the upcoming soundtrack for the Weinstein's musical "Nine" through U and Geffen Records that Rob Marshall helmed and co-stars Daniel Day Lewis, Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman.
TWC bows "Nine" in October, with "The Road," based on the Cormac McCarthy novel, to follow in November.
The Weinstein Co. catalog includes "The Reader," "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," "El Cid," as well as direct-to-DVD pics like George Romero's "Diary of the Dead," "Teeth," and the second and third installments of the "Pulse" horror pics, from the Dimension Extreme and Dragon Dynasty labels.

I believe the TWC/Genius distribution agreement is still in place. Apparently the distribution rights for Inglorious Bastards was sold off by TWC to Universal due to TWC cash flow issues. The question of the day is what is Genius Products position re: possible violation of the TWC/Genius Distribution Agreement?
Everyone is tight-lipped about the new alliance between Vivendi and Genius. Maybe as a concession to Genius, Activision offered Vivendi (disgruntled Activision arm) to Genius???
Genius is in a great position, imo.

Vivendi Acquires Genius Titles, Select Staff
Vivendi Entertainment (VE), a unit of Universal Music Group, Sept. 14 said it acquired the home entertainment distribution rights to new releases and catalog fare from Genius Products, including brands such as World Wrestling Entertainment (“WrestleMania”), Sesame Street, Classic Media (“Frosty the Snowman”, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “VeggieTales”) and RHI Entertainment (“Tin Man” and “Lonesome Dove”).
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Distribution rights are for North America, except RHI and WWE, which are for the United States only.
Tom O’Malley, president of Vivendi Entertainment, said the deal would allow the company to “provide financial stability” to content partners during a challenging retail climate.
“With this transaction, our company becomes an ideal home for other top brands seeking a DVD and digital distribution partner,” O’Malley said.
The deal would mushroom VE’s catalog offering to more than 3,000 titles, with annual new releases on DVD and Blu-ray projected to top about 250 titles, according to spokesperson Maria Ho-Burge.
Other brands distributed by VE include, DIC, Palisades Tartan, Dimension Extreme, Codeblack, Palm Pictures, Razor & Tie, Shout Factory! and Salient Media.
Theatrically, VE releases New York, I Love You on Oct. 16. The anthology stars Bradley Cooper (The Hangover), Shia LaBeouf, Natalie Portman, Orlando Bloom and Christina Ricci, among others.
The transfer of license agreements to VE, in addition to the hiring of select Genius executives, would appear to end another chapter in the once burgeoning storyline for Genius Products, which until earlier this year was majority owned by The Weinstein Co. (Inglourious Basterds) and distributed its packaged media new releases.
Vivendi Entertainment is not expected to distribute TWC new releases going forward.
Genius executive Mitch Budin was named EVP and GM of Vivendi Home Entertainment, reporting to O’Malley in Los Angeles.
Genius said it would continue operations and has entered into a long-term distribution deal with VE, which the distributor said it hopes to parlay into focusing on alternative entertainment brands such as toys, electronics and graphic novels.
“This alliance will allow our company to fully focus on our core strengths including content creation, development, production and management,” said Genius CEO Trevor Drinkwater.

I find the recent events quite interesting considering Genius is currently in litigation against Activision, and Activision is a subsidiary of Vivendi.

Genius Products Enters into a New Multi-Year Distribution Deal with Vivendi Entertainment for its Remaining Catalog and Future Releases
In a move that significantly alters the landscape of the independent home entertainment industry, Vivendi Entertainment (VE) has acquired from Genius Products, Inc. (Genius Products), the exclusive distribution rights to a collection of marquee brands including World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE(R)), Sesame Street, Classic Media and RHI Entertainment.
The distribution rights are for North America, except RHI and WWE(R) which are for the U.S. only. The announcement was made today by Tom O'Malley, President of VE, and Trevor Drinkwater, CEO of Genius Products, Inc. As a result of the transaction, Vivendi Entertainment significantly increases its revenues and becomes a market leader in the independent home entertainment industry.
As part of this acquisition, Genius Products will continue operations and has entered into a new multi-year distribution deal with Vivendi Entertainment to distribute Genius' remaining catalog and future releases.
"We have long admired the brands that will now be part of the Vivendi Entertainment family and are excited to get started with our new partnerships," stated Mr. O'Malley. "With the addition of many Genius sales and marketing personnel, we have a team loaded with talent, and enjoy strong retail relationships. Further, we provide financial stability to our partners at a time when it is especially important. With this transaction, our company becomes an ideal home for other top brands seeking a DVD and digital distribution partner."
"This alliance will allow our company to fully focus on our core strengths including content creation, development, production and management," said Trevor Drinkwater, CEO Genius Products. As an important part of the transaction, Vivendi has hired several key Genius executives to join the company including Mitch Budin who has been appointed Executive Vice President & General Manager of Vivendi Home Entertainment.
"Mitch is recognized and respected as a leader within the industry and will play a vital role in expanding our home entertainment business even further. We are thrilled to have him on the team," added Mr. O'Malley, to whom Mr. Budin reports.
The Genius transaction encompasses the distribution rights for a wide array of home entertainment offerings, including: World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE(R)) with its many consistently chart-topping releases including the perennial best seller WrestleMania series; made-for-television movies and miniseries from RHI Entertainment (including Tin Man and Lonesome Dove); Classic Media's beloved titles which include Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and VeggieTales; and Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organization behind Sesame Street, celebrating its 40th year as a vital educational and entertainment organization, and bringing over 130 catalog titles (along with its much anticipated 40th anniversary special collection).

Vivendi to take over Genius distribution
PHYSICAL: Deal creates indie force with 3,000-plus titles
Vivendi Entertainment is taking over the core home entertainment distribution operations of Genius Products and acquiring distribution rights to Genius’ biggest DVD franchises, including World Wrestling Entertainment and Sesame Street.
As a result of the deal, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, Vivendi’s DVD catalog is expected to grow 200% to more than 3,000 titles, with the company becoming a much stronger force in indie distribution. Its first releases under the new arrangement include Sesame Street: 40 Years of Sunny Days and WWE Presents: Hulk Hogan’s Unreleased Collector’s Series, both bowing in November.
Vivendi expects to gain a larger presence at retail with its expanded lines, an increasingly important strategy as the major studios continue to crowd out indies on retail shelves.
“It allows us to expand our footprint at retail beyond our existing one,” said Vivendi president Tom O’Malley. “We are going to have very significant brands. We think we will be the preeminent home for independent content. We will be an ideal place for the best brands.”
In the deal, Vivendi, a division of Universal Music Group Distribution, also wins distribution of the Classic Media line, which includes faith-based hit Veggie Tales and RHI Entertainment, which includes Lonesome Dove and dozens of other TV movies and miniseries. Vivendi also will distribute Genius’ own DVD library, which includes the arthouse Wellspring line, and future releases for an unspecified number of years.
Genius until early this year was majority-owned by The Weinstein Co. and has distributed TWC titles to retail. Sources said Vivendi will assume distribution of TWC’s catalog and some new direct-to-video titles, but TWC’s new release theatricals, such as hit Inglourious Basterds, are expected to move to another DVD distributor.
TWC, Vivendi and Genius all declined to comment on distribution of the TWC titles.
Prior to the deal, Vivendi already distributed Shout! Factory, Palisades Tartan, Codeblack, Eebee’s Adventures and other lines. Last year, Vivendi added a theatrical distribution arm to handle eight to 14 films per year.
As part of the deal, Genius will remain in operation and will continue to oversee distribution of its non-DVD products, such as videogames, albeit as a very different company from its high-profile peak, when it housed about 200 employees and was majority-owned by TWC. Early this year, GNPR Investments took a 60% ownership stake of Genius, which had struggled with few TWC hits. In the last several months, Genius has reduced its workforce by about 60 and will likely further streamline with its Vivendi alignment.
As the DVD category matures, Genius is eager to diversify into new products, such as its upcoming new game release Scratch: The Ultimate DJ.
“We see an opportunity to expand beyond DVD in videogames and music,” said Genius CEO Trevor Drinkwater. “And a lot of indie content owners need help beyond DVD. We want to help content partners maximize their business.”
He believes Genius’ former DVD lines will be in good hands at a vastly expanded Vivendi. To help manage the influx, Vivendi has hired several Genius executives, including naming Mitch Budin executive VP/general manager of Vivendi Home Entertainment.

A sequel of Scratch: The Ultimate DJ is in the works, says Mix Master Mike
Mix Master Mike cranks up the heavy artillery
Keyed-up turntablist would love key to city - or even to Wayne Newton’s estate
Mix Master Mike to DJs: ‘Just stay true to who you are’ (8-31-2009)
“I’m really skillful with my hands,” Mix Master Mike boasts. “I’m the hardcore b-boy, hip-hop extraordinaire … When people come to see me they know I’m not just standing there.”
The busy-handed DJ played a MAGIC party at Rain last night and will make a second appearance at Blush on Sunday.
While he’s quick to tell you about his DJ dexterity, he’s just as fast to tell you he hates a lot of what he plays during his club gigs.
“When you go to clubs people want to hear top 40 (expletive),” he explains, “and you got to play top 40 stuff, but then not play it at the same time.”
When the DJ, whose real name is Michael Schwartz, is asked to share his thoughts about top 40 music, his response is verbal nails.
“I don’t even know what the (expletive) top 40 is now, I don’t even know,” he says. “I love the new Jay-Z (expletive), like ‘Run This Town’ and there’s some stuff by T.I. that’s dope …. (and) there’s this one by Wale and Lady GaGa that’s alright, it’s called ‘Chillin,’ but that’s as far as I’d go.”
The rest of it, he says, is “whack.”
“I hate all of them,” he says. “It’s awful.”
When it comes to big name techno DJs like Tiesto, David Guetta, or Rain’s Saturday night resident, Paul Oakenfold, the mixmaster is more diplomatic.
“I think they do what they do well,” he says. “I know that they make a lot of money doing what they do and they make a lot of people of happy … so you can’t knock it.”
Still, that doesn’t mean he’s a fan.
“That’s not my thing,” he says. “I just don’t get that music and I bet they could say the same thing for our music.”
Yet he concedes to the masses and incorporates many of the popular dance tracks that make him cringe into his club set – albeit with a distinct, Mix Master Mike twist.
”I take songs that people know and remix them live and try to make them harder-edged and more aggressive than they really are,” he says.
The club tracks Mix Master Mike will force himself to play in Las Vegas this week are a far cry from the hip-hop beats he is known for. And he knows the crowd at Blush won’t look anything like the audiences that he’s used to playing for alongside the Beastie Boys.
“For me, it’s a job,“ he says of his club performances. “I do what I do, and I leave.”
Still, the 39-year-old turntable pioneer appreciates the challenge presented by the new audience.
Instead of just a show, it becomes a mission.
“It’s kind of like the art of war, you know, knowing where and which angle to attack from,” he says.
“At Blush, people want to go there to dance and have a good time,” he says. “You don’t want to hit ‘em too hard. People are there not to die, they’re there to have a good time.”
The challenge, he says, is “as a DJ you want to keep your integrity.”
“I try to keep it interesting, keep it fun,” he says -- but he knows many of the clubgoers at Blush on Sunday won’t expect what will be coming from the booth.
“It’s an aggressive sound assault,” he says. “I’d refer my music to, like, a bazooka launcher, SIG Sauer P226, a Gatling gun, or a firing cannon.”
He says his sound has become more violent over time.
“It definitely got more aggressive, I’ll tell you that,” he says, noting, “It’s more bass-heavy.”
The DJ doesn’t seem like a violent guy, judging from his casual demeanor and the playful banter exchanged over the phone while he speaks from his Hollywood home. But for a nonviolent guy, he sure likes the word “aggressive.”
He uses is a lot: when he describes his music, his live show, and his soon-to-be-released album, too.
“I have a new record coming out, it’s called “Plasma Rifle,’ and it’s aggressive,” he says, dropping his favorite adjective one again. “It’s hip-hop, dubstep, break-bass, instrumental.”
While the sound has intensified, he says the tracks remain true to form.
“I’m just making original compositions and getting back to my roots,” he says. “It’s Mix Master Mike music; crazy, insane.”
“It’s really dope,” he assures. “I’m really proud of it.”
Next month is going to be a big one for the superstar DJ: In addition to the new record, he will also launch a new Web site; a signature set of headphones (thanks to a partnership with Skull Candy); and an iPhone application, too. What’s more, a sequel of his video game, “Scratch Ultimate DJ” is in the works, as well.
As if that wasn’t enough, he plans on reuniting with the three hip-hoppers that made him a mainstream star later this year.
He says he hopes to hit the road with the Beastie Boys as early as December.
“It just depends on my man’s recovery,” he says, referring to B-Boy Adam "MCA" Yauch, who underwent surgery for throat cancer last month.
Yauch is expected to make a full recovery, but the scare forced the group to cancel their tour, including headlining gigs at All Points West in New York on July 31 and at San Francisco’s Outside Lands this past weekend.
Mix Master Mike recently talked to his partner in hip-hop, post-op. “Adam’s doing good, he’s doing real good,” the DJ assures. “We’ll be on the road in no time.”
While the three MC's and one DJ don’t have any dates to re-schedule in Las Vegas since they weren’t planning on coming here in the first place, Mix Master Mike says a Sin City show isn’t out of the question.
“Anything can happen … during tour planning so hopefully we’ll be out there,” he says, noting a little incentive could help speed the process.
“If we could get the key to the city…” his voice trails off, suggestively, before it breaks into a laugh.
When told that a key to the Playboy Club would be a more reasonable demand, the DJ recomposes himself and doesn’t bite.
“The Playboy Club is just the Playboy Club. We want the key to the city. We want access to … Wayne Newton’s (estate),” he demands, laughing once again.
Key or no key, he hopes his next gig in Vegas will be alongside Yauch and fellow Beasties Michael "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz.
“I wouldn’t mind going out there with the boys,” he says. “It’d be dope.”

Restructuring of Genius an Example for Alan Quasha and Quadrant
Genius is a well-known media and entertainment distribution outlet which was owned by Harvey and Bob Weinstein which Quadrant recently took control of. Quasha refers to Genius as the leader in “non-Blockbuster” titles, meaning that it handles most types of entertainment mediums. This includes movies and DVDs now, and will include music and games in the future, as we move into new areas using the same distribution channels. Restructuring of this company should bring it back to its peak performance as it expands its products and services.
Genco Media LLC, an entertainment-based company announced together with Genius Products, Inc., a leading home-entertainment distribution company, that they have entered into an agreement whereby Genius Products, LLC will have the exclusive rights for the distribution of certain content acquired by Genco Media.
Alan Quasha, President of Quadrant Management and Chairman of Genco Media, said, "Genco Media is focused on adding to its library of entertainment properties through the acquisition and funding of valuable films, music and video games. Our goal is to provide content creators the means to fund the development of a range of exciting entertainment related products." Quasha explained that partnering with Genius Products would mean that Genco Media "will be able to more effectively bring products to market and expand the reach of artists' work."

JOIN ABBY CADABBY AND ELMO ON A FANTASTICAL ‘FAIRY’ TALE ADVENTURE "ABBY IN WONDERLAND"
Starring Sesame Street’s Favorite Characters Including Elmo, Grover, The Count, Among Others, Delightful Feature Length DVD Debuts September 30th From Genius Products And Sesame Workshop
Sesame Street’s resident fairy-in-training, Abby Cadabby, and Elmo embark on a magical storybook adventure in Abby In Wonderland, from Genius Products and Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind Sesame Street, poofing onto DVD September 30th. Directed by Emmy Award-winning puppeteer and producer, Kevin Clash, Abby-thusiasts will slide down the rabbit hole and follow her into a whimsical world in the Sesame version of the children’s classic, Alice in Wonderland.
Sesame Workshop has always provided children with an educational foundation and love of learning through content that is research-based and age appropriate. Throughout this adventure, preschoolers are presented with important skills such as task persistence, reading and storytelling, relational concepts, counting and letter sounds.
“We wanted to create a DVD that children of all ages would love and stays true to the timeless story of Alice in Wonderland,” adds Kevin Clash, Senior Creative Advisor, Sesame Workshop. “We were able to take the Sesame Street Muppets© and mold them into the legendary Lewis Caroll characters for our preschool audience and their families to enjoy.”
When Abby falls asleep and is dreaming, Elmo transforms into a frantic, fuzzy red rabbit and she follows him into an enchanted “Wonderland.” Abby is persistent as she pursues the elusive rabbit that, inadvertently, has pocketed her magical wand. On her quest, she encounters an incredible cast of fantastical characters such as a bilingual flower, “Rose”-ita (Rosita), The “Counter”-pillar (The Count), The Cheshire Cookie Cat (Cookie Monster), Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum (Bert and Ernie), The Mad Hatter (Grover), The Mouse (Zoe) and the cranky Grouch of Hearts (Oscar). Without the assistance of her usual fairy magic, Abby must rely on her knowledge of rhyming to defeat the Grouch of Hearts, reclaim her wand and find her way back to Sesame Street.
A special treat for toddlers and preschoolers, Abby In Wonderland, has great new songs and will be available for the suggested retail price of $14.93.

"Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys was reported to have signed an exclusivity deal with 7 Studios to appear in their game Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, meaning that he would also not appear on DJ Hero."
Source: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://mash-up.seesaa.net/article/125558293.html
The first version of Guitar Hero was released on November 8 2005, and the first version of Rock Band was not released until November 20th 2007. The Rock Band / Guitar Hero franchises spawned numerous sequels, and as we all know, both titles were (and continue to be) a huge success for BOTH companies.
According to Fred Galpern from Numark, "We're trying to build a franchise with Scratch."
Source: http://kotaku.com/5329120/scratch-the-ultimate-dj-has-a-new-developer-new-date
So it seems, Genius Products has plans in the future to turn Scratch into a Franchise, similar to Rock Band / Guitar Hero.
In the future, I envision a partnership between Genius Products, Numark, Akai, and possibly DJ equipment maker Korg (Kaoss Pad) with the development of Scratch VJ (Video DJ) game, imho.

It’s incredibly rare when you see the legendary godfather of all things cool, Quincy Jones, involved in the world of video gaming. That apparently lends a lot of weight to the buzz surrounding Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, which, as near as we can tell is about as authentic an experience one can get if you’ve ever fancied being the coolest man in club.
Newly re-hyped with an early 2010 release window, (and new developer, Commotion Interactive) things seem to be heating up between Scratch and the other anticipated rival, Activision’s DJ Hero.
Could this be the new Guitar Hero vs. Rock Band feud? At this point, it’s a game of who’s going to announce the better DLC music and which peripheral works best. With the announcement of entertainment company QDIII’s (Quincy Jones III) involvement in SCRATCH, the brewing music battleground just got a little more interesting.
Source: http://www.popcultureshock.com/quincy-jones-represents-scratch-ultimate-dj/49948/
I agree, moving the release date for Scratch: The Ultimate DJ to after the holiday season is not ideal. However, with Commotion Interactive on board, and the additional game development time, Scratch will be a far superior game, imho. Consumers have voiced that they want Scratch to have MP3 / Divx / Multimedia playback capability and for Scratch to be released for the Wii and PC platforms etc... etc... Hopefully Commotion Interactive can help to implement these features (and more) in Scratch: The Ultimate DJ.
The Activision lawsuit will help to level the playing field, as any revenues gained by Activision for DJ Hero will more than likely be awarded back to Genius Products at trial for Activision's wrongdoings.
Genius is in a great position, imho. Once Scratch is released, things should look up!
QD3 talks about Scratch Ultimate DJ and and gives a demo for the game.
Video:
Activision's CEO, Mr. Kotick needs to be added to Jim Cramer's "Wall Of Shame" list for his questionable, and illegal, strong arm / big bully tactics. Sure, Activision is loaded with cash at the moment, however the future may not be so bright for Activision after the Lawsuit over Scratch: The Ultimate DJ has its day in front of the Jury. Not to mention Mr. Kotick was paid ~ $15 million in 2008. Now he wants to raise prices of his games. Gamers and investors alike may look elsewhere, imho.
For the schlitz and giggles,
Not entirely true, as some bandages have expiration dates and when they expire, must go to the trash.
Not to sound like an ass, but that's what I did. GLTY
Scratch: The Ultimate DJ gets new help
Commotion Interactive will work to bring Scratch to the market in early 2010
If you kept up with my posts here, you’ll know how things are going with the DJ industry and the breakthrough it’s going to have in gaming. This happens by the two most anticipated music games and the first two DJ games to come out, DJ Hero from Activision and Scratch: The Ultimate DJ from Numark and Genius. This led to a hot contest between the two, especially since they are going to go head to head on a number of platforms, including PS3 and XBox 360, and unlike DJ Star, the other DJ game I talked about previously, they’re not isolated on a single platform (for DJ Star it’s Nintendo DS).
Also, you’ll know that in a capitalist world with brands the size of Activision, the contests are bound to be borderline unethical, and I even covered a little bit of the legal issues over Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, allegedly started by Activision through some shoving and pushing the developers around. The tactics apparently worked, since Numark and Genius are practically forced to move the release of their Scratch DJ game to the first quarter of 2010, even though a while back they even advertised Scratch will beat DJ Hero on the gaming market.
At least Scratch seems to be coming along nicely, or that’s what Fred Galpern, the Numark gaming products manager wants us to believe :"I cannot comment on anything related to our lawsuit against Activision; however we are confident Scratch will be a superior DJ gaming experience,… It is all moving forward nicely and we will have more music announcements in the future". Undoubtedly the legal issues with Activision had an impact on the game’s release, if nothing else. On the other hand, Numark is confident they’ll use the time well and develop their product to a superior level.
After Activision slid their way through to the Scratch: The Ultimate DJ source code by buying the developer at the time, 7 Studios, Numark and Genius now proceed to get new help for their first DJ game. They’ve decided on the Toronto based Commotion Interactive team, which is, at least theoretically, a good replacement for 7 Studios. Not only is the Commotion Interactive team young and experienced in programming games, with their portfolio spanning games from Rockstar, Ubisoft or EA giants, but they’re also music afficionados who produce hip hop tracks when they’re not making games.
Also, Commotion Interactive feels that Scratch: The Ultimate DJ will have the originality advantage over DJ Hero, as they seem confident they’ll be able to work with Numark to put the previously presented game controller to great use, making Scratch a reliable and realistic DJ experience. Numark showed off their controller for Scratch earlier, in the form of a touch sensitive turntable look-alike with iconic Akai MPC drumpads for the gamers to mix on.
Until 2010, gamers and DJs alike can only hope Commotion Interactive works well with Numark and Genius, so Scratch: The Ultimate DJ will be a DJ and music experience, although DJ Hero will get a nice few months worth of head start on the market. Hopefully for Numark (I told you I’m rooting more for them, just because Activision is all over the place anyway) they’ll manage to turn Scratch into an authentic DJ emulation that’s going to have an edge of some sort over their rivals at DJ Hero. Not long now until the release, so looking forward to seeing what the two games are capable of…

I agree, an up-to-date website is a must, as it represents the company.
Genius Products GNPR is a similar company to PAE (in terms of DVD and Blu-Ray distribution). However, GNPR is also focused on video games such as Scratch: The Ultimate DJ. DVD, Blu-Ray, and Video Games have similar distribution challenges and opportunities, imho.
