Yes indeed it is about credibility, confidence, and respect. There are some countries that show respect for patents. It is hard to catch up to first entrants if they continue to ramp up their research and development and continue to develop new devices for the markets.
Lightwave has the first modulators performing sub 1 volt (which is a big deal) low energy, 1/10 the size ….. the building blocks of what is to come.
First out and first to the markets with new devices in the bench being tested….. Tier 1’s are going to go for the best, the most competent, and a man at the top with vision and great respect in the industry. That is the way things work. And no this development didn’t happen yesterday but the success with the polymer was achieved many many months ago at the time FUD’sters were expressing doubts about scaling poling stability and reliability.
It’s too funny now to realize FUD’sters were dead wrong all that time.

The good that AI can do is indisputable and in the health care industry it is very much needed.
No argument from me on the potential good effects.

The world has experienced some great men and women who have contributed to the advancement of the human race.
Some have made great contributions to science and others to philosophy. Rarely do you get one person who is good in both domains.
I admire Stephen Hawkins for his math and science contributions for instance but philosophy ….. well he said in one of his books “Philosophy is dead”. Unfortunately his book is full of philosophical statements thereafter that are not verifiable by science bit I still admire him in the areas of expertise. I am sorry if I offend (bring offence or offense) to some people here. Not my intent.
We could analyze every great woman and man in this way. Their strengths and weaknesses.
Are we in decline? Yes in some areas we most definitely are and yet in other areas we continue to advance.
Where we will always be ahead relative to AI and science will be in the human experience of ethics and morality (etc.) since we have a conscience.
Sadly not always balanced but we have one. I am not sure at all that AI can match the human experience in this regard. After all the human experience cannot be put in a lab to be experimented with in a way so as to duplicate it.
Cherish the uniqueness of this human experience and embrace it as a gift of life.
I expect reaction to the above and I likely will just read the response but not reply since it it is not LWLG relevant.

As far as the chemistry is concerned I learned this stuff years ago in studying abiogenesis and synthetic chemistry which use the same processes . There certainly would be some predictive elements using AI but each step would have to be done with experiments analyzing the processes. . The process requires moving harmful tar out , chilling or heating, hydration, dehydration, isolation eventually from the chemical process and a whole lot more.
You would need a supercomputer to solve this process but there have to be human inputs and you must know the ingredients. Also all the probes and sensors switches, etc. I don’t know what AI will be able to do in the future. My understanding of AI from my son (Physics and CS) is that you cannot ever get away from the necessary human being to do the actual science.
The idea that AI will be able to do everything is a fiction. I am not afraid of it….. just concerned with what humans will do with it. Humans are scary. AI is not.

Reverse engineering often is done by analyzing the final product. But in this case the final product can’t reveal the process by which it was obtained. The chemicals used and the process used are undiscoverable by analyzing the end product. Maybe just maybe (but I doubt it) there is some way to discover the solvent (s) ingredients and temperatures used but I would venture to say that the temperatures used has passed and the solvent gone after the fact. But what about the process…… speed of mixing, concentration used, the temperature at which it occurred, the quantities used ? Viscosity , hydration and or dehydration. If there are chemical reactions, is there an additive to stop the chemical process at just the right time. How about chirality (correct twist of the molecules, homochirality or heterochirality. These variations just are NOT easy to obtain if even they apply. The ONLY way to get the correct formulas is to hack the system and find the correct formulas. But the formula alone won’t give all the answers. There would be multiple formulas you would have to find in a hacking process and unlikely on the same database.
And while I am at it, building molecules is very complex and very similar to the processes involved in experiments done in abiogenesis. Read Sutherland Et. Al. (Which I did years ago.).

What you are saying of course is that the agnostic posters were ranting over nothing all this time.
They were thinking that the chemists had to heat the PERK to high temperatures and apply an electric current to pole the PERK when in fact all along they were using a solvent to obtain a liquid (semi-liquid) crystal that did not need voltage applied whatsoever to obtain the desired state of a poled compound at very low temperature. Didn't need to heat it at all likely.
Now doesn't that just beat all! These posters were way way behind in their understanding what was going on all this time and they were completely uninformed (like the rest of us which includes me). Bizarre.
I encourage you x993231 to post this complete explanation (in perhaps better words) over "there" so that all the longs understand what has been going on for months now.
