Insider transactions, including buybacks, are restricted 10 days prior to and 10 days following release of earning reports.
As to when they actually transpire, volume would be the only indicator.
Given the circumstances of what Wall Street is doing, Doug is doing the only thing he can. He's putting his money where his mouth is.
He says the stock is under valued. He cannot control Wall Street. So they do the only thing left to do. He buys the stock.
They believe it's too cheap, it's a bargain, so they buy it. I agree with what Doug is doing. he can never control Wall Street, or the analysts, or the blogs,or the blah blah blah. He can just stand behind his decision. I believe in him in every step of the way.
Look at his actions... He Give the FA's is back concessions they lost.... Voluntarily. He took compensation in stock.... Voluntarily. Even ended his contract.... He's Making all the right moves.
What a joke. Any of these "shareholder friendly" gains returned to us oh so generously have more than been wiped out. two or three times over...
Yeah, brutal. The only thing I can figure is that the only people buying this stock is AAL themselves. And whenever they stop, it heads for Argentina.
Which is really not a good sign in the long run.
cheers to those of us with our necks out…
I want to sincerely apologize to everyone for my unfortunate purchase, and the effect it has had on my fellow investor/victims...
remember they're in post-earnings blackout for buybacks. should stabilize after that when they spend some of that new 2bil..
(gulp) …hopefully.
I'm all in at this point. We'll see if the ship rights itself.
Phew.
Bought more and more on this. He definitely does some pretty smart moves. Here's hoping Wall Street agrees.
What the hell is going on? I wake up this morning in the world is upside down.
Agreed.
lol. awesome bud. nice.
My prediction is they're following some kind of plan, albeit a painful one to endure as a shareholder.
Sitting one quarter out on buybacks doesn't make any sense to me, but I'm no board member so what do I know. It does make sense, if this is the strategy, to wait on attacking the debt until all buybacks are finished. (Or they simply buy so much they take the company private again)
There must be a method to the madness. They're standing by fiddling while the price just sinks. These are not foolish or stupid individuals, they must be following some bigger plan.
Of course, how many of us will be here to see it. That remains to be seen...
in the meantime i'm buying and selling in the channel. i bought my fluff back at $37.
2.5 billion (at least) in guaranteed buybacks thru 2017... what the hell. jump in...
I know, it's frustrating as sh-t. But I also believe you may have been right, and still are, about the strategy.
The fact that they just authorized more buybacks may prove it… they are suppressing the price to maximize their buying power on buybacks.
They're not going to do crap about the debt or a dividend hike until this strategy is played out… whatever it is.
no pending hearings scheduled. hopefully that's a sign of resolution/end-game approaching.

Did Zacks just rate us a strong sell!!!
You've got to be f-n' kidding me!!!

I'm starting to accumulate Rjet and skyw. just in case.
I'm so sick of this. Doug has got to pull a rabbit out here somewhere man.
Kill that debt, take the company private, double the dividend, hell anything would do at this point.
did it just drop to 603 mil? I thought it was at 630 mil. I could be mistaken….
nice job bud! congrat's!
Appreciate the compliment, really just dumb luck though.
Any time I see Cramer jump on I'm off BTW...
Agreed.
The labor unrest potential was a real sleep-loser for me. Considering last weeks events I think we're holding up pretty well. I think it's a pretty good sign.
Everybody who thinks profit sharing is bad...
Now this is interesting..
The two biggest headwinds for us are debt and labor. Plain and simple. Not fuel.
Why? Because fuel will affect all simultaneously, but labor and debt are up to each airline individually to tackle as their management team sees fit IMHO.
I'm telling you, and I apologize in advance for sounding strident, but the murmurs and grumblings among the labor groups are not good at AAL. Think the stock gets a beating now? Wait til we've got FA's and pilots picketing the major hubs. Not good sir. Not good.
I stand by my post. Doug is showing long term strategy here. It could work. It may turn out to be a lesser of two evils scenario. Especially if we end up seeing the competition mired in labor disputes as we fly merrily along.
That could be one possible outcome of this.
I for one applaud Doug and his team for this. As a labor Union member myself, and also a very concerned shareholder, I see both sides. I know this issue will get a lot of traction on this board.
I am a pilot (private) and I have several pilot friends at American. Trust me on this, there are (hopefully were) very big storm clouds brewing for future contract negotiations. I was personally dreading it as a shareholder and I feel very relieved today.
I can't guess what the market will say, but the future held messy, messy stuff with regards to labor relations IMHO. If his next move is attacking debt we will be golden. Just MHO.
I know. It's pathetic.
Usually down the most. Very rarely up as much.
Oh no....
Here we go.
This is where everyone laughs at me for selling my fluff @$41.80…
And then they thank me for driving the PPS higher.
Silly, spiteful market. Predictability is for kids..
Wow, nice run today.
Something's afoot…. obvi..
But how many years do I hang on man!!! I can't take it anymore.
The elation, then the disappointment. The celebration, then the defeat.
Agreed.
It brings me no joy.
But there's been a lot of good news and positive reports, etc. and we're planted like a cement post.
I believe I said that exact same thing to several individuals who pitched-out in the low 50's...
and the high 40's… :)
Right there with you. I might bail before that though.
In order for this thing to see 48 again, there would need to be with some kind of sea-change. IMHO
Like announcing a shift to debt reduction, or increased divvies, or huge additional buybacks. ( I can't really think of anything else)
Just MHO but it's been sideways a long time now. We're right where we were at in 2014...
No good joke goes unpunished.. :)
The gist is, the two parties came together and one of the requests was that he block future distributions until/unless AMR changes the algorithm they're using to determine what certain parties are owed (namely them).
No word on the Judges ruling yet. At least I haven't seen or heard any.
I'm trying to follow you, but I don't understand your posts. I was responding to Pinks post about a fifth distribution.
I'm guessing you may have missed the posts a few weeks back regarding that last hearing. The one regarding the Pilot's Union and the Banks. Read through the items on the docket and I think you'll understand my response to Pink.
No, no. I just check the upcoming court dates to see if there's any new dates. Just out of curiosity.
Besides, if the Judge rules in their favor, new distributions will be blocked for quite a while anyway.
Oh, I go there almost daily, just to check..
