Houser has been wretched tonight. Yanks chipping away. Judge's 2nd hit sums up the game so far.
I've been in and out of the leveraged short ETFs for a few months. Overall it's been profitable trading, but for me it's more of a hedge for my long positions. I haven't been confident enough to bet my entire portfolio on a single short ETF.
But truth be told they are just not hitting
That's the issue, alright. Look, they're still in first by a whisker and have every chance to pull their heads out and take the division, but it's no good blaming umps or injuries or challenged calls- it's pretty basic: you lose to teams as bad as the Cubs in mid-September, you better have built up an early season, Yankee-sized lead in the division......oh, that's right, YOU DID! AND BLEW IT!
Sorry. Been a tough season in Milwaukee. Hader picked up the save for San Diego against the Mariners today. Struck out the side. What, me bitter??
Mats bats dry up in the 8th at home vs mighty Cubs. Bases loaded, no outs and they come away empty.
Unlike the Brewers, the Mets are a better team than what they've shown lately. Their issues are a lot more glaring now because it's September, they had a double digit lead in the division, and the team that has run them down and caught them made moves at the deadline to improve and maximize the roster.
I can't wait til the last weekend of the season. Hopefully the difference between the Mets and Chops will be a game or less.
Yup. Unthinkable to go back to this guy when your season is on the line. Mets bullpen is a total mess, with Diaz being asked to do so much more than close games.
I agree that Rodriguez has to go....so nobody is tempted to try him again.
Gotta say, the Mets bats have really let them down lately. Escobar has been as good as anyone in that line-up since coming off the DL, and that's a problem. Lindor and Alonso aren't horrible, but their lack of consistency has led to many losses against teams that playoff teams easily handle in September.
What do think of the shift-no-more rule?
Balco? IKF did look like he was trying on more of a Clint Eastwood look now that he's hitting clean-up.
And Hicks in the 3 hole!!!
Never thought I'd see IKFU in the clean up spot.
We'll, I hope the NL East comes down to the last weekend in Shea, but at this rate, the Mets might be better served holding back their 2 aces for health reasons and taking their chance in the WC series. Scherzer's heart is much healthier than his body, as the Dodgers found out last year on the NLCS.
I don't think Jeter has much interest in the GM job. Randy Levine's position, on the other hand......
Losing 2 straight at home to the Nats is no way to win a division!
Trade the Man.
Of all the bonehead moves the Yanks made in the past year, not locking up Judge takes the cake.
I don't know.....Mets 2007 collapse set the loser -bar pretty high. Dropping a 7 game lead after September 12 is a feat to be marvelled at! The yanks aren't the only team in NY with sleepness nights ahead.
With Max hitting the showers early tonight, you might have some big, big problems going deep in Oct.
Kluber chucking a Maddux game tonight. Didn't the yanks have this guy?
That's not the Cashstrap way. You only need to look at the solid season Urshela is having for the Twins for another example of how CASHman loves fading veterans over up and coming talent.
He should go. He's had the job too long. And Jeter is ready.
Haha! As a Brewers fan, let me tell you your line up today looked like Murderers Row. We've put up a single run against the mighty D-backs pitching staff in 2 games. Even though the Skanks have sucked lately, you'll still most likely take the division.
A more pressing question in NY might be who will replace Boondoggle when the Yanks dribble out of the playoffs? Or maybe Cashman goes too...he sure has a lot to answer for over the past few seasons.
Every playoff team in the NL is absolutely delighted the Mets decided to stick with Joulys. Hard to believe Eppler would invest this much $$ in a team and not shell out the few extra bucks to fill a glaring need at the deadline. Sheesh, you could have moved Dom (remember him?) for 2 lefty rentals, easy.
Of course the Dodgers are a powerhouse, even with a decimated rotation. With Mookie locked in, their top 3 is well beyond any other in MLB. Lux hits 9th....Trayce Thompson can hardly get an at bat....
You lost to the best team in baseball, which is what you deserve for plunking Gallo with the bags full and 2 outs.
I don't think I've ever seen a pitcher fall apart as fast and as completely as Josh Hader since his trade to the Padres. He pitched the 8th today and recorded 1 out while giving up 6 earned runs and pushing his season ERA to 6.52
Makes Chapman look like Mariano.
Given the current options for the Mets, it's easy to believe. Wonder if Eppler has regrets about not shoring up the pen before the deadline, especially as this is the 2nd year in a row when Atlanta absolutely did what it needed to do to maximise their team's chances.
If it comes down to bullpens, the Braves have the best in the NL IMO. The Dodgers are next, followed by the Mets and Cards. Problem with the Mets is there's no 7,8,9 inning established pathway...and there's quite a few guys who don't instill great confidence that they can get the job done.
Fastball Freddy goes 6 no hit innings and the Crew looks likely to lose again. Since the Hader trade, it's been a nightmare. Williams hasn't been able to handle the closing role and Bush blew the lead in the 7th. Best thing about the Crew now is Front Row Amy!
Mets have dug deep a lot late in games this season. Much different from the thumbs down year!
Could have used Diaz in the 8th tonight. Givens was shaky all inning.
When did Buck switch to Diaz in the 8th and Ottovino to close?
Rightfully suspect. Lugo sure added some unnecessary suspense to the 7th. Could have been much different if Iglesias wasn't rung up on a pitch 9 inches off the plate.
You seen enough of Baty yet at the MLB level to realise he's not ready?
Yanks should cut Taijuan Walker a check too. 2 outs, nobody on base. Why would you leave anything close to the zone?
It's like watching 2 walruses rounding 2nd base! And you're sure right about hitting 'em over the fence. Vogelbach had a great season in Milwaukee. I know they have Tellez but I was sorry to see him go. Happy he's found a niche in Metville... he's sure making the most of it!
Watching Alonso barrel roll the bases, I'd say he's only a few trips to the buffet table behind Vogelbeef!
Diaz's inning today probably brought back a few bad memories too!
Nobody's going to shed too many tears for the Mets. It's their division to win or lose at this point. If they tend to their business, they'll take the division and the #2 seed. If they lose out on the division, it's because they were outplayed by a "better" team at crunch time. And to be honest, I rate the Mets higher than the Phillies but absolutely even with the Braves. I honestly hope that the Mets and Braves meet for a 7 game series in the playoffs, because it would be an amazing clash of 2 great teams and could easily be decided by a mistake or 2.
Hard to believe that the Dodgers don't have Bauer, Kershaw or Buehler in the rotation and still field the best pitching staff in MLB. And you can't count the Cards out in the NL. Sure, they're not in the same tier as the top 3 teams in the league, but they're starting to string together some wins, and the line up is as good as any at the top....except the Dodgers.
My Brewers are unwatchable at the moment. What a fall. Morale is in the toilet; 2 dagger losses to the Cubs has pushed them out of the division race and into an embarrassing show with the Padres of 2 losers getting kicked around when they're down. Guess someone has to fill the 3rd wildcard spot.
Pretty clear now that the Yanked chain has one titanium link and various other links ranging from tin to plastic.
Look, the 2005 White Sox lost a huge lead in their division before rallying to win the whole thing, so if the pendulum swings the Yanks way in October, you never know.
Thing is it's a comprehensive slump in NY. No Cole to break the skid. No surprise bat to provide some punch. Yanks have the Brewers coming up, so there's relief in sight.
"or a starter acquired via a package headlined by Gleyber Torres"
Patrick Corbin is available.
The top 5 in your line up is 0 for everything at this point.
The bullpen was the obvious hole in that roster. Givens was your GM's solution. Meanwhile your division foes picked up Robertson and Iglesias. Go figger...
Nothing will be decided until the Yanks lose in the post season. Again. Which at this point could be anytime in the playoffs against any team. You'd be hard pressed to pick NY against even the Twins or Orioles. The league now knows to pitch around Judge and take your chances with a Donaldson home run any day- any manager who lets Judge beat his team in October will be coaching 1st for the Reds in 2023.
Option 1: lil' Hank will let your GM shuffle through another manager and roll the dice on 2024.
Option 2: They'll send Cashie packing and pluck Stearns out of Milwaukee.
Option 3: Yanks win the World Series. (and I win Powerball!)
What do you think of Buck going to Diaz in the 8th? Over compensation for the ghost of Zack Briton? Trevor May in the 9th?!!
Woodruff giving up a dinger to the Dodgers is one thing, but did it have to be Gallo??!!!
Don't buy the 'bats dry up" when the pitching goes south, not with Buck. Morton was fantastic tonight. The Mets aren't the first team that he's made look inept at the plate. And they won't be the last. Vogelbeef showed some great patience drawing a walk to send Morton to the showers. Let's see if the Mets can take advantage.
