The Vastly Unsuperior team wins in extra innings to pull within a 1/2 game.
How did that Vastly Unsuperior team get out of that inning with the bases loaded and nobody out.
On paper the mets are vastly better
Well thats why we play the games. On paper Florida shouldn't be where they are and on paper Tampa shouldn't be where they are but they are there. We never play games on paper.
08.23.2008 So far, no buttocks injury reported
Pavano on the mound Saturday night versus Baltimore
Your right about one thing, We will see soon enough. That Vastly superior team, lost yesterday and Phillies win so that lead is back down to 1.5 It doesn't matter how many games they were behind to co9me back. The end end result is the end result. They are 1.5 games ahead. Mets lose the division nobody but you will be saying well they were 7 games back and made it close so they are " vastly superior."
I don't care if he pitches on Crutches. Get him out there and pray we get run support. Thats what I am thinking.
Now in this point of the season your right. You have to go for the now and worry about Tomorrow Tomorrow. I have to admit I do the same thing. I do things now but I am thinking 5 steps ahead on what will happen when I do that today. It is a hard habbit to break..lol
My toughts are still the same. They can't use their starters deep in the game and will have to use the pen. They could use their starters deep in games but they will push their starters over the edge for sure. 2.5 games is very easy to reach. 5 games is within reach a third of the way through Aug. If the Mets were so Vastly superior they would be 10 games up by now or more. They are a meager 2.5 games ahead. My thinking is the same as Kasey Kassem's Keep your feet on the ground but keep reaching for the stars.
He did pitch a excellent game for sure. They need more pitching preformances like that so they don't have to go to their pen as much. Problem is they can't depend on the pen and they can't expect their starters to go the distance either. But he sure did pitch a excellent game.
Absolutly he is not as good as Matsui in the clutch. One thing you could always count on with Matsui was pressure does not get to him.
You look at how many RBI's we are missing this year. Matsui, Posada, your talking alone off the top of my head give or take a few RBI's your talking around 200 RBI's. One thing is hitting with RISP and another stat that goes untold is Posada's good eye at the plate helping to bring up the pitch count. This is a totally different team without those 2 players alone.
It is tough to see them lose when we are getting such pitching gems. A pitcher giving up 1 or 2 runs in 6 innings and losing the game. It happens but shouldn't happen as much with this offense we have in place.
It is times like this where I wonder if the Umps have a bet on the game. There is no way he should have been called out on that play. I just can not believe a MLB ump can be this stupid.
Lucky for Tampa this was a very week storm. Would hae really sucked for them to have to play double headers to get caught up. Even with the players that are on the DL they have played such exceptional ball. You would hate to see a hurricane or a series of hurricans hurt them when baseballl teams can't stop them.
Some players can have bad years. He is only batting for his short career .304 and thats averaged in with the bad AVG this year. Going into this year he was batting .315 for his career. Not to shabby. In 121 games this year and 458 at bats he only has 41 strikeouts. Not to shabby either as this shows he makes contact with the ball. He just so happened to hit them in the wrong direction.
If Matsui comes back as planned he will DH steady. That would be really good for us as he is very good with RISP. Maybe he will be able to get some guys in. I like the fact they released Sexton the other day when they sent Melky down. Gives Giambi more at bats and helps him keep his timing. Phil Huges made probably his last start at Triple A and will be called up this week. So there is help on the way. The odds are stacked against us but being 5 games out in the wild card we still have a shot.
lol I am sure the Dodgers are making a few bucks off of manny being there. Sad they are making money going against their own policy.
Torre was so desperate for help I can see why he is letting Manny get away with it. However, your right, rules are rules and if you let one get away with it then it sets a bad example that the rules only are for certain people.
I agree, he sure is fast and I was driving and listening to it on the radio and Susan brought up the point is .240 worse than .150? I know I was pleading with them to do something with Melky but not replace him with someone that is batting .150
I stick by what I said. It is a no win situation if you just judge from this year. Hughes can go on and win 3 cy young awards. Not this year of course he wont win any awards but this move can only be judged by the end of their careers.
On the flip side of that, imagine if Santana blew his arm out and Hughes and Kennedy had great years. Then people would be busting the yankees chops for taking a pitcher who is no spring chicken anymore again and not staying with the youth. This move was made to build on the future. Not just a one or 2 year deal.
That have a chance but the way they are playing it sure looks bleak. I don't have much faith in them. I have never seen them play with such a lack of spark. They look like a bunch of robots out there playing with no emotion.
If they were so much better than the Phillies and were going to pass them like they are standing still then they would have done so already. It is Aug not April. Phillies will win it.
Seems the pichers caught up to Bay alot faster than they did with Manny. BAY hitting a very respectable .340 while Manny is hitting .467 since joining his new team. Most of his numbers are higher than bay's. To bad Manny is washed up though. Just imagine what his numbers would be like if he wasn't..lol

I think if they fall back even more then yes. We have what, 6 games against Boston yet? We still have a chance but the window is closing.
He will be back this season. They have not givin up completly yet.
Well we both were willing to give up a season to rebuild and I say at this point they are pretty much done. To many players hurt. The players that are there underachieving. Our pitching staff is a mess and not what we started with. Hank as wrong as he was for opening his mouth is right. Time is running out. Can it be done? Sure since these teams can beat each other up and not really gain any ground or lose any ground. Yankees would have to pull off a couple sweeps. But can this team that is playing so lathargic do it. I don't think so. I don't remember a time I have seen such shoddy play by the yankees consistantly.
Well we have talked about Torre doing that to and Torre saying well he needed a break. Well you don't do it if he is hot.If he starts to slump then thats a sign he is tired and needs a break. Giambi may be only batting .250 but he was atleast batting and keeping in good practice. Sitting him against lefties is throwing him off I think when he is going against righties because his timing is off. I know he was only batting something like .175 he is not as good as he was against righties now since we got sexton. As far as Jeter goes, I was talking to someone yesterday and told him that he should be dropped in the batting order and his response was you can't do that to Jeter, he is to good for that. No I said. He was to good for that other years but this year he is not worth a hill of beans and should be lowered down to 6th or less.
Yankees were the only team that had not lost 4 road games in a row. They picked a really bad time to do that. They wasted yet another very good pitching preformance. They had guys in scoring posistion AGAIN and didn't score. Man on 2nd and nobody out and they don't get him in? And a very speedy runner at that. Another thing that needs to be done is knock double play jeter down in the batting order. He needs to be no better than 6th. Damon is doing great at the plate but Double play comes up and next thing you know there is 2 outs.
It is just your opinion that your annoyed?lol Are you surprised about their pen?
Yea, Susie is right, I meant to get even with the Sox not get back with them but to get back at them. Not that they did anything to him except let him be a idiot. That was their motto and they embraced it and he got carried away with himself and became his own worst enemy. Had they not embraced it this all probably would not have happened. They allowed it because he can hit the ball really far..lol
lol he would trim them of course.
I know, he wants 20 mil a year for 4 years but this is where Manny being Manny will hurt him. Teams wont want to pay 80 million over 4 years for someone who plays when he wants to play. They will have no choice and if he is going to take less money he will want to play for a team he can cause the most damage to Boston on.
One of the best hitters in baseball or not I always said I don't want him. Red Sox created this monster and thought it was cute and funny. But you and Soft better get your Yankee Voodoo dolls ready because I wouldn't put it past him to take lower money to get back at Boston.
That is a increadable number isn't it, to have that many and keep hitting at that pace.
Killed them again having a guy on second and nobody out and they don't score. With a speedy runner yet.
But who are they going to bring up, a rookie? You will be in the same boat. Colon will get hurt again and isn't ready to come up. Now you have wakefield out. Your options are getting limited. You just have to take your lumps at times with a hurt staff.
Double Play Derek loses chance to hit into yet another double play with Damons steal of 2nd
rofl I wonder why Giardi has not picked up on that..lol
They could take Jeter down with them so he could work on his swing
08.09.2008 Derek Jeter is so clutch...
...That he's saving all of his extra-base hits for if the Yankees make the postseason.
Derek is on track for career lows in SLG % and Line Drive %. He has lost his pop.
In addition, we found out something else that is a little alarming. Derek Jeter has put 377 balls in play this season (not including sac bunts) and 22.5% have been hit the other way. That 5.5% increase from 2007 and a 2.9% increase from his career rate.
On the flipside, of those balls put into play, he's pulled 17.2%. That's down 2.5% from 2007 and down 3.7% from his career rate.
So less power, and a slower bat. Not good.
Yanks option Kennedy, recall Traber
ANAHEIM -- On another team, in another time, Ian Kennedy perhaps might still be here. But the Yankees are in a pennant race, and they can't afford a single growing pain.
So they took action late Sunday morning, optioning Kennedy back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and recalling reliever Billy Traber. In doing so, the Yankees hope Kennedy can rediscover his previous success and return to help them come September.
"We're obviously in a pennant race, but he wants me back in September," Kennedy said of Yankees manager Joe Girardi. "He wants me to be part of the reason why we're in that pennant race. That would be nice."
Instead of focusing on results in Scranton, Kennedy said he would work on throwing more two-seam fastballs and offspeed pitches, in the hopes of making them more consistent features of his repertoire. So don't expect a run of success akin to his most recent four Triple-A starts, when Kennedy posted a 3-0 record with a 1.33 ERA.
"Having those four starts helped," Kennedy said. "I won't lie to you, it got me back here."
Banking on similar success in the Majors, the Yankees recalled Kennedy on Friday night to take the rotation spot of the injured Joba Chamberlain. But he lasted only two-plus innings in that game, allowing nine hits and five runs to the Angels.
The next day, Kennedy took heat for postgame comments in which he said he was "just not real upset" about his performance. And Kennedy is confident that he solved that problem, too. After talks with Girardi and veteran teammate Andy Pettitte, Kennedy said he's beginning to understand how to better express himself to the media.
"I was very disappointed in myself," Kennedy said. "Obviously, I always want to do well. I had seven innings to think about it, and I want to help the team win. I hate losing. I really, really hate losing. But I wasn't going to let it ruin what I'd done in the recent past."
Girardi waited to tell Kennedy the news until just prior to Sunday's game, so that he would give maximum effort in his bullpen session, according to a team official. He's on track to start Wednesday for Scranton, and though the Yankees have yet to name their own starter for Wednesday, logic points to long man Darrell Rasner, who relieved Kennedy on Friday.
By bringing in Traber, 28, the Yankees also were able to add another left-hander to their bullpen. Traber spent two previous stints with the Yankees this season, compiling a 6.00 ERA in 12 innings. A former first-round Draft pick by the Mets, Traber had posted a 3.38 ERA in 37 appearances with Scranton.
"We thought we could use some help in the bullpen," Girardi said. "We've had to use our bullpen a lot. He's another left-hander, and that gives us some more options."

I don't agree and here is why. Clay wants to work hard and work hard through his troubles. It is some growing pains he is having. Remember this is the kid you wanted over Scilling last year in the playoffs. He he has talent and will eventually become a very good pitcher.
Now, here you have Kennedy who thinks he is entitled to be in the big leagues and doesn't feel he isnt doing anything wrong so his mind wont grow like Bucholz will as long as Kennedy thinks it is everyone else but him.
