BB,
I believe the strategy is more brilliant in effiency than describing it as minimal. What does every salesman dream of? "Hot leads" Reps have the list of the highest volume Statin prescribers going in. That has a huge multiplier effect on sales production. The story keeps getting better.
ILT
sts66,
Thank you! Will check now.
ILT
BostonTrader,
Interesting. Thanks for your perspective.
ILT
sts66,
Thanks for sharing. She has two days left to review plan options before the rollover, so I'm on hold actually now with BCBS. Hopefully, I can find out if there are better options than what she has currently. Depending on how that goes, I'll revisit Humana at a higher level to see if I can get Vascepa priced out better.
Thanks,
ILT
Here's one for the books. My brother has a patient with a life threatening Liver disease. There is only one drug that would likely save the patient's life. The insurance company won't approve it!
ILT
BB,
My elder mom has BCBC part B and her drug plan is through Human/Medicare. When I called Humana on her behalf last year, they said Vascepa would cost her $750. I'm not certain, but I believe that was for a 90 day supply. I called them yesterday, the poorly trained rep didn't have pricing at her fingertips, but she said mom would be responsible for half the price of the drug ugh! It sure doesn't sound like the $9.00 co-pay my insurance provides.
ILT
I wouldn't expend my hopes on outlier specialties and remain laser beam focused on those that reduce-it addresses.
ILT
Inflammation has been convincingly demonstrated to be part of what causes cardiovascular disease. It is also a big part of autoimmune diseases and probably does in part explain why those patients have elevated CV risk. Raising EPA levels might be of particular benefit here.
— Dr. Deepak L. Bhatt (@DLBHATTMD) December 4, 2018
Understood. I should also add, that these patients have had access for at least three years now.
My Brother's clinic has patients with Emblem Health (NEW YORK) through Medicaid. Patients have no problem getting off-label Vascepa pre-authorized at the same cost basis as ggwpq.
ILT
Great! thanks for sharing.
Great, a way for the Chinese to circumvent Amarin's EPA production methods? I hope not.
ILT
MW2360,
... and you're the one who asked me "to learn before posting"? Even after I started by stating, "It's not my area of expertise..." and this is what you're contributing to our learning? Wow.
ILT
zumantu,
Thanks for sharing! I'm surprised your post didn't get a resounding response. The question I would have is this: How could any physician worth their salt not find this presentation worthy of acceptance, and in turn, apply it to their own practices?
ILT
Onecardchuck,
I have to disagree. Your statement suggests that the "market" is entirely composed of bottom feeders often lucky enough to find Amarin like opportunities; jumping off at just the right times, and miraculously, they return to the station to find the train hasn't left. We'd have a lot of Warren Buffets out there if that were the case.
ILT
BioChica,
Not my area of expertise, but from what I understand, these sales are pre-scheduled. Otherwise, management would have unfair trade advantages.
ILT
Babr,
REALITY ALERT! I'm afraid to say, if we were to test doctors practicing medicine today, we'd find the number of ignorant ones to be staggering. I was just with my brother last night, who is ferociously committed to expanding is knowledge base. His achievements speak for itself. He was telling me how ignorant so many doctors are, and he wasn't referring to just few in number.
ILT
Biowreck,
But we did get to $23 without the approval. As we lived through the FUD attack, the coast should be clear to regain at minimum, the high we achieved earlier. Analysts have since given price targets of $28 and $35. $17.50+ makes no sense.
ILT
How can the market be getting it this wrong? It's gift wrapped and bowe tied in plain sight. Con's = none/Pro's = Too many to list. It costs $billions over many years to bring a drug to market, and while BP's have spent fortunes without making strides near anything Amarin has achieved thus far, we're waiting for catalysts. I suppose they're all studying Twitter feeds by anonymous sources. Unbelievable!
ILT
sts66,
Wow, how does a car battery blow up in your face? I wonder what kind of eminent signs there could be to avoid such a catastrophe in (I hope it never it happens) future. Glad you avoided the vision loss thank God!
ILT
KevGee59,
The story was well worth sharing. I love your mom's fortitude. Many would have walked away, but your mom turned the tables. Please let us know how they progress.
ILT
Glad you did that:)
ILT
Great post!
ILT
On a more positive note. Greater support keeps rolling in:
"Crucial to treat patients w/CVD on statin therapy w/elevated trigs with prescription EPA as demonstrated in REDUCE-IT study; CV death was reduced 20%! A low EPA/AA ratio can be added to list of residual risk factors." J.Nelson MD, Dir. California Cardiovascular Institute $AMRN
— TerraPharma (@TerraPharma1) November 26, 2018
Raf, my first instinct was, and still is, that Amarin wants to be in a position of strength. Vascepa is a once in a lifetime drug. Weakness shouldn't be an option in the face of greater opportunities to field.
ILT
Makes sense.
ILT
BB, I would go a step further and insist the commissioner see the video of Dr. Mason's presentation. While V effects are+++++ and OTC products are actually -----.
ILT
BB, I see no reason to limit to cardio's only.
ILT
Raf,
While I always welcome a vote of optimism, I'm taken aback by the late 2019 approval projection. This is where I hope BB's work helps to expedite the process. What happened with the new and approved FDA?
ILT
BB,
Before making an investment in any stock, I didn't imagine individual retail could be smarter than the market. It was either one needed inside info or only big institutions could win big with greater frequency. To my pleasant surprise, boy was I wrong!
ILT
At this juncture, how is it possible, that we still understand the value of Vascepa better than the market? My other, riskier OTC holding, is doing much better today in gains and volume than Amarin. IMO, it suggests we need the next catalyst to see upward movement.
ILT
BB,
Thanks for the background info, update, and persistence.
ILT
I see it the same way. Considering what JT and Amarin has endured to get here, the company will want to enjoy a lengthy honeymoon by GIA. It will allow more time to squash any residual misconceptions until FDA approval. Playing hard to get will only attract a much higher BO number later imo.
ILT
AVII77,
Great work!
ILT
Ditto
John Cappello is an EPA study posting machine over on Twitter. They all point to JL assertion, that we've only seen the tip of the iceberg.
ILT
True, but way too many hamstrings. Reps for smaller companies are at big disadvantage for lack of budgets to compete.
ILT
Dockside130,
So let me understand this, the government took away dinners from pharma as a place to acquire new drug information. Adding to that, your organization doesn't allow them in your offices. Great, reps will soon be relegated to intercept doctors in the parking lot with fliers in hand. I see these poor reps in my brother's clinic which is always humming with activity. Reps always find themselves waiting by the reception area. Their laptops open patiently waiting for their moment for an abbreviated engagement with literature and samples to leave behind. I can understand halting speaking engagement trips and such, but I don't see dinners as bribery. It's ridiculous.
ILT
massulo52,
I couldn't agree with you more. My PCP has always been an Internist from day one. They have the broadest in depth knowledge of all the specialties, as they must understand all the rest with strong command to become board certified.
ILT
This is not the first time that JL posted this wonderful explanation of how the inflammatory system evolved. I really believe it should be pinned for future reference.
Thanks
