SPX had high RSI(14) numbers on short time frames. I took a short at 3:50pm Friday, hoping to sell it back before 9:45am Monday.
It think Monday starts down, then just goes up for quite a ways ... but, first things first.
rr
One more scary down, so no.
rr
I am as long as I can get, and still managed to take profits with TZA this morning.
If I'd not gone to lunch, I'd have a lot more. Expensive lunch.
That's stupid.
TGIF.
rr
Thanks for the pricing info.
Is there any corresponding source for inventory info? One wonders how much buildup was involved in driving prices up.
Thanks,
rr
OT, I think ...
Keep in mind the 'male enhancement' business, which seems to keep getting bigger and going strong (sorry). It's a favorite of spammers, and the ad's are back on TV after being gone post-lawsuit/admin complaint.
Well, yeah, indeed. Why do you think they call it big business?
rr
OT ZM123,
Thanks for the insight. I was looking for a way to change my racquetball stroke to help with my right elbow.
Now, all I need to do is convince my feet to get to the right place.
rr
I'm looking at this ...
and wondering how it might possibly be 'up' on Monday. And, it can't.
So, spike up, maybe, and then down for some period of time, and then, WTFK.
Not me.
rr
"I heard this morning on a radio show that we as tax payers invested 125 billion in a few large banks..and had we just went on the market and bought the stock we could have bot it all for 65 billion..Hmm"
And, had 'we' bought all the common, 'we' would get wiped out because of the asset backed equity evaporation. At least all the mutual fund managers would have gotten out.
When ALL the alternatives suck, being happy is not an alternative. Sigh.
But, the Christmas lights are up !
rr
AJ,
Did you mean SPX 900 today? I can't write comments fast enough.
Look at MID and RUT ... I'm impressed.
rr
Thought equities were all day today, odd rules otherwise. From TD Ameritrade ...
Market Holiday
All securities markets will be closed on Thursday, November 27, 2008. On Friday, November 28, 2008, the exchanges will close at 1:00 p.m. ET. All orders submitted after the market close will be routed for the next regular session, subject to TD AMERITRADE rules and policies.
On Wednesday, November 26, 2008, and Friday, November 28, 2008, mutual fund cutoff times may be earlier than normal and will vary. Trades will be processed on a best-efforts basis. Orders received after a fund's cutoff will be processed the next day.
There's a real pretty descending line on $SPX from 1265.12 thru 1007.51 that crosses 900 just about ... Friday.
Why do you think we'll get to 900 sooner than later?
rr
$MID and $RUT are on fire ... those are usually my clues for reality.
YMMV, HT, etc ...
rr
In my house I have a server (Windows Home Server), my desktop (XP Pro / Media Center), and 3 laptops (2 Vista Home Premium, 1 Vista Ultimate).
The laptops work great. I'd never go back to XP on them.
JMO, YMMV, Happy Thanksgiving.
rr
I'm certainly not Bruce (...)
It's a decent box, but you can probably buy a new one for the same cash, with better specs.
rr
"Our Condolences for any and all short play-ar's but we fully expect 39.00 to be tagged in the next few days, OUCH!?"
typeo maybe? But, Man O Man, I'd like you to be true ...
Cialis market, indeed.
rr
"(1) Forming type 1982 bottom."
Three down steps and a screamer decade?
Did he say what he meant?
You know, BubbleVision isn't good for you in big doses.
Happy Thanksgiving.
rr
Looked at my local federal credit union, and mortgage rates went up .375% from earlier this morning to now. What was a 5.25% 30 year fixed is now a 5.625% rate.
Wowza.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of the contributors on this Board.
We do all have so much to be Thankful for.
Have a wonderful holiday.
rr
I'd speculate that many people have and trade self-directed IRA's.
There's rules against margin, options, and such dangerous activty.
But, buy / sell 3x ETF's ? Hey, no problem.
No necessarily replacing options, but opening up a whole new liquid market.
JMO,ICBW,AHBB
rr
Why'd you use that 'buy zone' indicator? Looks low ...
Not complaining, just wondering.
Chugs,
rr
It seems such a simple thing, I guess. Hope it occurs often.
I'd like to thank those who helped move the prices up, and those who bought from me when I sold. Your assistance is appreciated.
Best luck in your trades,
rr
SPX Rally's nearly over. Not a bad time to sell.
$SPX rsi(14) on 30,15,10 minute bars over 60 under 70. 1 minute rsi(14) cleared 70 and dove back like a scared rabbit. 5 minute can't get over rsi(60).
Not end of rally yet, but close(r).
TTT, fullness and all.
rr
Thanks for the reply.
I'm happy to let you know when the rally ends. I'll get back to you.
rr
Good morning.
The new charts show buy points, but I seem to have lost track of sell logic. Did I miss something amidst all the fun?
Thanks,
rr

It is never too early to drink.
Nor, is it ever too late to stop.
Drinking is timeless.
TGIF,

LG: You sure it's not the end of the world as we know it?
deal on a used car ... company?

rr
He's also got a money pump coming out of the sand.
Somethings, I'm envious of.
rr
LG:
The math makes sense to me, given that.
Assuming the so-called T3 day rule is a good proxy, 3x the $60K-ish number is about $200K (50K 4x 200K). Check.
Minimum of $50K 4x $200K allows you to "miss a day or a week" of $500 paydays every once in a while. Check.
What will you be looking for tomorrow to make this "a" bottom? Any chance that tomorrow you could see "the" bottom?
Appreciate your time and advice.
rr
LG: I intended to ask a different question.
To make $500/day, it takes a certain amount of working capital. Using the numbers I used, that means employing $60-ish K per day.
Were the assumptions I used reasonable?
gain %, loss %, winning trade %
I'm looking for a working capital number here.
TIA, have a great evening, pray for me it's frozen here ...
rr
ps: Thank you for the answer you gave.
rr
OT: Yes, but then I'd have to actually have each row of the table 'in hand'.
Takes a pound of SQL to get one row, and it isn't possible for me to get SQL to deliver unto me the entire table.
So, my alternatives are 1) build the whole damn table, and do as you suggest, or 2) step thru big till I clear the max, and then backup and the step thru small.
Hit the DB 20 times, rather than 100 plus a sort.
I wanna day trade for a living !!!!!!
rr
in edit: I think I just discovered how to get SQL to build the whole table for me ... Yeah!!
rr
Ya' know, I'm trying to find a local maxima for a non-linear function embodied in a table, created from a series of SQL statements in a DB built from a test harness ...
Anyhow, I agree with you.
Modern politics likes to have "two sides" - good guys and bad guys, where both alternatives suck. Real world is a bit different.
rr
You kids ...
If every person I heard say what you just did would put their SS payout into an irrevocable trust back to the SSA ... we could bail out GM.
I'd assume there will always be taxes taken from those who have, paid back to those who get. Call it SS or 'spreading the wealth around'.
Later, day job beckons,
rr
LG: I've always liked to reduce things to Excel. If you've a moment from tutoring aj, would you please check over my assumptions here ...
target per day $500
average gain per win 2%
average loss per loss 1%
win ratio 60%
expected gain per trade 0.800%
required trade size $62,500

Saved SPX, still closed RUT and MID underwater.
Play the whales, cash out the kids.
rr
Well, that looks like it's got potential !!
rr
Lot's of 'buy low sell high' systems aren't working, because the price trend is down over the time frame of interest.
Short is a system, I guess.
Good luck looking for one that works better than short and hold.
