I thought the previous version looked more professional. This one looks slightly amateurish and also like it was designed for people with vision problems who need large fonts.
Holy volume, what the heck is going on today?
Appears many are continuing to lighten their loads. Can't say I blame them for being sick of dead money.
Walter, how long is the audio? Haven't had a chance to listen yet...
TIA
The PPS is abysmal, hopefully the PR campaign starting 8/3 helps turn that around.
I'm not quite sure how to take the PR push but I suppose it should be viewed as positive. In my mind it's purpose is one of two things - they are almost ready to show something (prototype) so they are trying to get their name and story out in preparation. The other side of me says that they are further than they thought and need people to prop up the PPS so they can tap LPC.
As X noted, they mentioned that they can change the commercial to include any monetary awards granted which says to me that they don't expect anything else newsworthy in the near term otherwise they would have included it in that commentary.
Maybe things will pick up again when the University is back for the fall semester.
Any idea how much money they have left? I'm concerned about their ability to raise any additional cash - surely the PPS is well below the requirement set in the agreement with LPC.
Thanks Rick. So in your opinion are they any closer to having a prototype modulator or does it seem like they're putting that on the backburner now?
Did they discuss any of the prototypes they are working on with UCB and Boulder Nonlinear?
TIA!
Thanks for the update inversor. That's disappointing about the lack of details where timeframes are concerned - I assume that means nothing this year. Hopefully they get the presentation posted to the website soon, including Q&A.
Patiently waiting for an update from the attendees....
;)
Hopefully they're getting multiple new product demos
GLTA today, hoping we are pleasantly surprised.
I'm predicting a progress report PR on Friday around the time of the meeting. I'd be shocked if anything of significance has been achieved recently given the PPS right now and Lightwave's history of "unexplained" run-ups.
After Friday the next piece of news will be the 10-Q in mid-August which allows them to have this month and next covered for "shareholder communications". Have to imagine progress at the University slows down during the summer.
I'm thinking September might be the month we finally get a prototype... 5 months after the previous estimate should be enough, right?
Sure hope that's our polymer they are using. If it indeed is, you'd think Lightwave would have already PR'd something about it but it certainly seems like it might be perk.
Thanks for the tip Buz, I need to get my lingo straight. Maybe that's why I don't understand what's going on with this company anymore.
Getting geared up for the ASM next week. PPS seems to indicate what we all expect...disappointment on the horizon. Hope to hell I'm wrong as I do too often here.
When do they expect have a working prototype and is it dependent upon the creation and characterization of new materials???
I'm predicting they'll say "sometime in 2013", just like last year.
No confirmation or expectation at all, it's very unlikely. I just remember that at times in the past they've had Arduengo and Menon make short video clips for their presentations and would certainly appreciate something similar next week although I doubt it will happen.
"We have found that the structures produced at UCB are compatible with our materials and their device structure and processes have already been passively tested. The next step will be to determine the electronic coupling design and poling process to calculate the resulting electro-optical activity of the Perkinamine(TM) Family of materials. With satisfactory results, we can begin the final assembly of initial prototypes. "
When next Friday rolls around for the ASM it will have been almost two months since this PR was put out(6/7). Anyone care to venture a guess as to whether they've completed either the electronic coupling design and/or poling process yet? It would be nice if they could get Mickelson to speak to this a little bit but I'm only counting on a brief status update. Fingers firmly crossed for some good news.
It could be anything but I'd have to agree that this seems to be a negative indication... Here's another conspiracy theory: Maybe he stole the secret recipe and is looking to cash in on it ;)
At this point I'd be happy with $2 a share for the whole herd. At least we'd have proof of something then.
2 weeks until the ASM. My pessimistic side says the meeting will be used to satisfy their monthly update to shareholders and that at most we might see a time frame for the modulator completion. PPS action doesn't seem to indicate anything positive near term.
On the bright side, 14-20 months to go until we are potentially "designed in" although I'm not sure I will be here with many shares by then.
Researchers develop light transistor
TU Vienna has managed to turn the oscillation direction of beams of light – simply by applying an electrical current to a special material. This way, a transistor can be built that functions with light instead of electrical current.

At this point I'd be happy with field goal!
I was hoping for a PR early in the week. News that is saved for Thursday and Friday afternoons is typically less than stellar.. and I want stellar...
Hopefully we see something later today.
Congrats to the longs. I bailed years ago after the swine flu spike but may decide to get back in again now that they received IDE approval. Can't believe it took so long. I imagine Fresenius, Baxter, or Davita would be watching this company closely.
Last minute shake out for shares IMO. Also, aren't there options that expire today?
When were the OS results for the 1st Line NSCLC originally due out? I believe they had to push them back several times to get to this point, right?
Thanks, appreciate it Whooops
Any educated guesses as to how long it takes to complete a cohort? Just trying to get a feel (if possible) for how quickly we may move through them.
$1.49 - Pre-PR shake out for shares???? News has to come in the next 9 days if they are going to stay on schedule.
1.5 weeks to go until the very end of 1H 2013...
Emailed IR last week to see if they were still on track to meet that self-imposed time frame and never heard back.
Gates,
No offense intended but you are wrong about EMP. I was told directly by Steve C that Lightwave is no longer working with EMP and posted this maybe last week or the week before.
Holy F Buz...seems like a VERY gray area and VERY unfair. Won't rock the boat on it but seriously, WTF. This is why average investors don't stand a chance in the market.
" However, they jetisoned EMP so just maybe this is VERY promising and imminent. "
There's that eternal optimism rearing it's head again...
No offense prop but do you really want to start connecting dots again that never seem to mean anything. We should be past that at this point in time.
"The optimism from the CC"
Are you talking about the 4/4 CC? I think the most recent investor presentation squelched what was left of any near-term optimism from then.
However, assuming the UCB and EMP projects really were parallel, then by that logic shouldn't UCB almost be done with their version of the telecom prototype? By the recent PR it seems we have quite a bit longer to wait.
Wonder if they will end up consolidating their SLM design with the UCB effort as well.
I know what you mean Wise. I always tell myself not to get my hopes up but there's always a small part of me that continues to think that maybe we'll get surprised...Bound to happen eventually, right? Just probably not this time... ;)
Any bets on whether there will be a prototype or not by then? 5.5 weeks to go....
At this point we should approach Gigoptix to build our devices since their "process" appears to work. I don't care about the BS with the Gig yahoo board posters, I just want LWLG to have a device in hand and on the way to the market ASAP.
Seriously, WTF is up with the rapidly declining share price. The 1st line NSCLC results are due any day now as far as we know and judging by the 2nd line I'd have to imagine they will be pretty good.
Is this a shake out????
That's the reason that I was given. If there is anything else behind that decision I'm sure they will keep it to themselves.
The question for me now is that if/when UCB makes a prototype, who has the capabilities to mass produce them? Apparently EMP doesn't. Will we have to build a plant and do that ourselves, or start a bidding process for production?
I checked with Lightwave and they are no longer working with EMP because their process wasn't compatible with Perk.
Just wanted to clear that up for everyone.
