DUH! WMP9 had the "wav" off. So I assume that some other app had the "WAV" and was not firing.
IE6 works fine.
Netscape 7.10 - non-stop problems with that. For whatever reason when you click a link to download it comes back and says it can't because the file "temp" is not found - some bug. When I reinstall NS7 it works fine. Likewise with this - the embedded fails probably for the same reason.
thanks again.

CPST - Bought back @2.27 (v2.1) /eom
Alamos Gold's listed on TSX
Effective Monday June 21
My junk is alive.. alive.. A-A-L-L-I-I-V-V-E-E!!!!
Meanwhile.. watching that CPST.. just crossed the 200DMA but then fell down slightly.. watching...
Sexy likes to watch.
NT .. and other stuff that stinks.
Yes it is a lark, a gamble. I accept it as that.
But how does one look at something like this in a technical way when the stock itself is so "negatively" news driven?
I remember years ago - companies like Oracle and Corel - how do you make heads or tails when every bloody quarter they "pre-announce" either GOOD or BAD news? Not predictable. I suppose in hindsight an equal CALL and PUT might be prudent.
Anyways - thanks for the info.
B
CUX and Capstone may my break by bones.. but spikes can always kill you..
CUX - I am late yes. The first move at around $3 was better than $3.40.
I bet on catching a down spike though first. May never happen though.. yes? no? May continue down? I was buying CPST when flat then down - but as we saw it continued to around $1.45. A better buy was a bounce off that and then losing perhaps 20-30 cents - but confident it was sound. Then it hit $3.52 and fell back from there.
CPST - Nice move up - resistance still for me is around $2.18. But I would like it to cross the 200DMA to confirm the uptrend - which is at $2.23 today (your resistance too). Personally I am 100% happy with dumping - I should have dumped earlier; but I can always improve.
VTIV - Again.. define a down spike? They are small - but happen during the day. The daily moves are so strong - will the next big down day, I buy, be the day it continues down?
Definitely feel like Tuko - "If you are going to shoot.. SHOOT! Don't talk."
Two angles one can go with ...
A) Buy on a dip - more inclined to do that I suppose if I have the time to watch it and/or already hold a core position, know about the stock and am confident it is a blip.
If MSFT dipped to $22 I would buy. Even it if it goes down to $15 I know they have a "few billion" in CASH and won't go bankrupt.
B) Buy going up - the direction is right - not buying on weakness.
Place and time for both. I WANT CPST to hit $2.23 before I buy. I want CUX to show signs of life before I buy (I was late, my gamble).
No.
I assume the gap you are referring to is the difference between the close yesterday and open today.
I liked the fact it was strong 3 days in a row; that it crossed the 50MDA yesterday; and that it was strong today.
I bought a small "opening" position. If it craters I am getting out.. if it goes up a bit I may add some. Jury still out if I would add to it if it went down a little bit (but the get out point is a % off my $3.40).
Your comment yesterday on being a pig.. well I am filthy but that is probably assumed at this point. AQI - I "sort" of see some baselining with it - but today's weakness - I passed on it. I would like to see some strength.
Saw an accident on the way in - three cars; first car "VOLVO" - "Aerostar" - "SUV". Volvo - a scratch - maybe; SUV - I can't see anything.. Aerostar - both front and back bumpers pushed in - totalled. A rainy day; traffic; only 1/2 cup of coffee left at home; 12 hours of sleep and still dead.. a chuckle made my day a little better.
Thanks for the points FP.. I always appreciate that - I am less interested in "stocks themselves" and more interested in "learning" and "strategies".. slowly I learn.. slowly..
Bot CUX (v2.0) $3.40..
Late last time.. I assume being paid +10% for being late isn't so bad is it?
Late this time?...
HA! Golds?
I think the real action is in anything other than gold. Unfortunately I don't have much oil - SU broke out higher as Frank // Kastelco were discussing.
Nice bounce through 50DMA
Whether there is another major gold push - I have no idea, but hope. I am nowhere near as gung ho on that shiny stuff like some of you.
I still have two good positions from the mid-upper $4s of this beauty which has held above the $10 mark..
Anyways your original premise - I agree. The majors may not jump to the moon like the juniors when things get hopping - but you will buy security and less volatility - I assume their hedging is either minimal or non-existent. I have to move into that direction. I have so much junk around me - I feel like Han Solo and Luke in Episode 4 before they rescue the princess.. talking to the hunk of gold..
I have to start breaking down my $$ into various allocations - risk v. less risk and by sector; one or two juniors for fun but thats it. Anything better? Gotta dump what I have instead of going long on something new.
I laugh at myself - how I manage to mangle things up so badly and still come out making money is beyond me.
Cheers all!
Frank - you or anybody else find any "24hr" OIL graphs - that could be plastered on your header?
Noticing AMTD is bouncing off its 50MA
Ahhh.. just watching..
Thanks Kirby for the "Conservatives rolling into Richmans Hill" info. Couldn't attend (ahem, had to make money to pay him to screw me). No idea what to make of the election - total collapse. Who is lying the least? Anyways OT and would not continue that here -- no time to post on the Canadian Political free for all on SI either. All I know is .. after walking a fair bit in my neck of the woods - in/around Mill Pond (aka Swamp); North of May etc; and after a lovely 1.5hr walk with my 2year old this AM (playday later with the 5 1/2yr old at school), I have seen all of ONE NDP sign. I have removed TWO Green party signs from our condo - and have seen others of those - I think I know where he lives - on Center just West of the Vet. Plenty of Merry Mellody conservative signs and the rich with the Liberals. If that is an indication. I probably will watch the debate though. Just to chuckle at Jack.. as he spouts his wife's views..
Cheerios - good for you!
Sold ALL CPST $1.97 (+/- ZERO)
(what is left was eaten by commission)
New plan donkey.. I can't be going down with EVERY frigging ship... the profit v. risk at this point not worth it.
Watch for a rebound.. if I lose a bit of ground - WHATEVER..
Anyways, a miss mananged play to make some nice profits. I had the right ingredients - plenty of shares to play with, some nice moves up - lots of chances to sell at various places - the only thing I missed was a finger and a couple of clicks. Hopefully one of the few going forward.
I will live another day...
EDIT: For anyone out there following me.. DON'T WORRY.. if I haven't posted it I still own it.. and boy do I own a bunch of S**T!
Capstone and other stones that sink..
Oui oui.
I have watched CPST falling like a rock these past few sessions (thanks to the earnings report).
But as I noted before the magical "2.18" has appeared to be a support level - and was broken intraday yesterday - low was "2.17".
I am watching this like an Ethan Hawk and if it gains some altitude will buy some in another account for the ride up...

amarksp - my comment on your GIM post.
Nothing to do with "GIM" but with the "dividend".
If you don't know already, as Canucks we do not benefit from preferential treatment of dividends as you would (your equivalent treatment would be no different if you owned CDN stocks outside your registered accounts).
Within our registered accounts (tax exempt - retirement etc)
- we get the dividend (as income) (I believe it is the full amount; converted to Canuck bucks)
- non-issue
Outside our retirement account
- we get the dividend - but it is treated as "interest" income - fully taxed (not good; converted back to Canuck bucks - double not good)
- we are debited a withholding tax (not sure of the calculation)
Personally the US dividend outsite the RSP is a pain in the ass and for me has been an administrative burden esp when I hold the same stock across two accounts.. akin to Jerry Seinfeld signing those royalty checks from Japan..
Anyways, the allure isn't so alluring (at least to me) because it pays a dividend. I would be more apt to put something like that in my RSP and forget about the paperwork - however for some, with the foreign content limit of 30%, they may pick and choose more wisely than otherwise not.
I will review your GIM further. I agree that the dividend can be a good "pay me while I wait" strategy. When I held Pfizer I received an $11 dividend. I had a few hundred of Ford and I sold it (I had too much of a gain so I blew it all on RBAK) - then a few weeks later I got a $30 dividend. Nice - paid for The Commish to sell.
(If you knew all this thats ok.. I am sure there are others that read this and never knew a buddy of mine got a DIVIDEND of about $1800US from the Palm Spin off.. he actually treated it like a Canadian Dividend. Totally wrong of course. His treatment should have been as interest (as I said).
But the joke was the fact he should have never declared it in the first place since the Canuck Feds changed the rules - and basically it represented the Cost Base of the Palm shares after the spin-off - which only would be dealt with when it was sold. Yeah he is a DUH alright.
I definitely have to improve on my trading skills, technically bad habits, but at least I try to learn and understand things as I go along. This past year I learned how to not only handle ROC (return of Capital from the trusts) but to code that in my program which auto-calcs the numbers for me.
I honestly laugh when I hear people paying someone to do their "basic" income tax forms. If they only knew how truly easy they are).
Thanks amarksp..

9669 - GRUB "96" "69" I am not just a grubber.. but a greedy little grubber.
Sure there are those that crave the 5000s and 10,000s.. and there are those that are shameless 50,000 grubbers --- BE GONE!!
But to me a "69" is mine.. all mine... my favorite number..
.. my birth year..
.. part of the number on my license plate
.. 69 Chinese birth sign is year of the Cock (ahem, Rooster).
.. and all within a palindrome
But of course a fitting joke to boot..
Chinese couple are about to have s-e-x.
Husband says to the wife, "I want to try 69."
Wife replies, "Why do you want beef and broccoli now?"
Now back to our program. Lasttime on TLC's "The Birth", Sexton Blake was being weened...
Hey Frank how about this?
Steady Growth - under the radar of most - good avg volume?
Cheers all!
blake
Well 6 or one half dozen of another. Your $7-14 range and min volume - yeah that is along the lines I am talking about.
The bigger the stock the more exposure - ergo more liquid. I suppose if all the news was that the company went bankrupt that would not be good. (yes I agree this illiquid has to go.. hey ho..)
I don't think I was able to convey my thoughts properly - Nortel has LOTS of news stories and that doesn't amount to a hill of beans whilst Dunn is stealing from the till.
BTW: I am not long on AMTD but still watching it - I first watched it in the 12s..
Perhaps I should stop watching and buy the blasted stuff - and be focused to dump it if it goes the wrong direction..
Merci
You guys might be thinking outside the box.. but I am stuck in one..
Dunno Frank.. though AQI moved today a bit - I was hoping it would be around $1 by now. Ditto CKG, MR and INM. AGI's move is more what I was thinking of the rest.
After hitting 13.20 the other day, Acclaim has been wacked something awful. Even SU is SUcking wind.
The only two I am pleased with are Reliant and Capstone.
I really want to start weening myself off this Canadian penny ante junk and move more into larger Canadian and US stocks - which have more exposure and more news about them. Better quality stuff (though watch the first new thing I dip my feet into will be smelling so bad I will probably hear you laughing from all the way out west). Sure the odd AGI or even AQI - but I just have too much of that crap. A few good growth plays like RRI...
Looking at a few trusts.. will advise on some thoughts on those.
Anyahoo..
Cheers all!
FP - thoughts on CPST?
Well we for sure have a double bottom at $2.18... and looking at the lows via Yahoo historical prices, Feb 10th was also $2.18 - so a trippple bottom.
The question is where are we going with this leg?
Either for lots of fun or just enough to form a big dubya!

I had posted a question elsewhere but never got an answer. Just looking for some direction.

Business Week - May 17th
Re: ADX - Indicators et al
First I want to thank you very much for the ADX posts. I have a skimmed a few already with more indepth to follow. That is one that I am seriously interested in persuing.
But, I thought I was clear but I think I F'ed up the question.
ADX is one example.
Basically when I go to Stockcharts I can add Indicators.
When I pull up ADX it defaults to "14" (I assume 14 periods).
I can then view the data weekly or daily.
The question, rephrased is When viewing Daily do you use 14 then with weekly also use 14 or should you be increasing or decreasing that number? ---- SAME STOCK -- PURELY BASED ON THE TIME FRAME
(I suppose EVERY indicator is different -- so to apply that to say RSI (it defaults to 14) or Chaikin Money Flow (20)).
To make it clear:
Obviously the numbers are "defaults" and have a meaning. One can research more and leave as such or adjust them - a particular indicator against say a UTILITY stock might not be reflected properly unless you adjust the number.
E.g. If one looks at Utilities they tend to have LOW PE ratios. The theory in the DOT BOMBS were that Tech stocks that had a high PE ratio were warranted because of the business (we realize today and then this was bogus).
I am not looking to be told what numbers to use. I am merely asking for the norm.
e.g. I might set ADX to 14 for reg stocks and 28 for Utils - regardless of Weekly or Daily.
Or I might say - Reg stocks - ADX is 14 for daily and 28 for weekly. And other numbers for utils.
Thanks
