Moose , no worries. Th NAS isn't very clear either. A lot of people on the sidelines right now .That will change as the year unfolds.
Still going with my thoughts that the fear has been counted in the mix.
http://www.ttrader.com/mycharts/display.php?p=10338&u=gejim&a=lightcharts&id=171
Moose , BTW by breakout I mean either way. A case could be made for either. For me I'll just wait for the kisses to play out and the wedge to finish. No need to guess.
Moose, nothing is written in stone. And I guess it depends how big of a zone you are looking at. If we were talking a zone of 11.50 to 16.5 and I can have 5 days out of that zone over the next month, sure I'm there. However if we are talking 13.75 to 14.25 then I'm not.
We are at several key res points, no trend, falling vol and a bal on the indicators. 13 days currently where the price has more or less been with in 50 cents of where it is now. During this time vol {read interest} has fallen in half.
Again could we stay at this level, sure we can. No laws would be broken. But as an opinion only I would be betting on a breakout.
Haven't sold any since Dec. Have bought a little here and there. Got my longview glasses on , watching the dollars, no longer worried about the nickels.
Nice to hear from you again.
jim
The long view clearly shows company direction since mid 2000.
http://www.ttrader.com/mycharts/display.php?p=10322&u=gejim&a=lightcharts&id=171
Many others can be viewed. The best term that can be used for those are past the good days. IDCC 's best days for growth are still in front of them.
twelvebees
A kiss is something to watch for. {an indictor of direction} What we would hope for is a kiss off the support levels on the MACD and at 50 on the RSI. The compression shown means a breakout will be occurring shortly, it's not going to stay at this level much longer. This is also supported by the wedge. This could go either up or down, it should be a decent size move, and a heads up could be tracked by the leading indictors for a break on direction.
However it is impossible to see the effect of this possible war concern. Victory, sure. Expenses {money wise} covered by opening the pumping on the Iraq oil fields by, I forget right now what act that is. But nevertheless cheap oil from a source that has been restricted to pump for food only will now be turned up. With war removed from the equation and cheaper energy along with some stability in that region the markets will focus back to growth and earnings. And we have turned the cover there.
But there are the wild cards. Starting with what went wrong during this process, terrorists and their plans and Korea's continued push to disregard what the United States calls reasonableness.
Most chartists are factoring a continued drop, some to the point of no faith in the stock market. I'm going the other direction. Too much IMHO has already been factored in regarding the war. The drop has already occurred for the most part, the fear and pessimism has already taken hold and I feel can not be added anymore into the fall. Or in other words everybody that wanted out got out. See reduced vol across the board. My thoughts are factored by the overall direction of the market and not designed for a 1, 2 or 3-day play.
All this above will have an effect on where IDCC will also be going. In this regard IDCC will catch a break as they are an I/P company still in the development stage dealing mostly with Asia and Europe suppliers. Some of the other American companies may feel a backlash however from the world opinion one listens too. Mickey D's and Coke come to mind.
Anyway enough rambling
Chart for this last week.
http://www.ttrader.com/mycharts/display.php?p=10317&u=gejim&a=lightcharts&id=171
TA --- Interesting look on the 1 month scale. Stock has been falling a little, STO falling, money flow increasing however. Need a close above the 50 mark on the RSI and a close above the 13.95 price mark to stay on the good side of the TA gods for the week however.
A quick glance at the charts. Vol is the biggest change. Still holding the 50 with the rsi running straight.
For those play'in along that a look at the weekly.
Got to go
Art, it's all good.
Just went over the 50-day on the daily, already over it on the weekly and currently under a low pole reversal. If there would be a concern it would be under vol. It's a little low.
Hopefully we get a new contract with Sharp later this month. I'm sure you read the newest releases from the company. And again IMHO Ericy is running out of time. While it's still up to 12 people the case looks good and Ericy will have some serious issues to deal with if they lose. Not just from a payment standpoint but from a long-term competitive one within the sector. They also know that if they license others will have to also i.e. Nok, Samsung etc, which will create a neutralization effect vs their sector. Of course this would all depend on what IDCC is willing to take, no doubt on a long-term plan concerning Ericy.
Ericy still has to factor a 3g license from IDCC and IDCC has gone on the record and stated they will give no such license while previous issues are in dispute. Ericy 's got a problem. Not IDCC.
But again just an opinion
Revlis, I like to keep my TA simple too, unfortunately I need several forms of synchronism and the dependence and interdependence for me to get comfortable with trusting it. I learned to trust the complex rather than the simple. My bad. LOL . I envy the people who can just take a glance and get it right.
When I posted I was just passing thru, didn't notice your post. Went back and had a look. Good post. I see no issue with it.
Thanks for the kind words but I think you should continue to post your thoughts on TA. Two heads are better than one, 4 better than 2, and so on. A proper alignment of thought can result, if done in such fashion. It's a rare day when everybody is wrong and nobody is right. Especially when the everybody's are the ones buying the stock.
Have a good weekend
TC ,I guess that depends, doesn't it?
Jerry, no I'm not saying IDCC will get shutout here. We'll be able to make our own deals too. And your right there is TDD patents not included. Siemens also has a bunch of TDD.
Just making a comment on the agreement, not a big worry here.
TC no, I was thinking in terms of packaging. along the lines of what Qcom does.
TC and yes I did read the non-transferable part.
TC unless I'm reading this wrong, Nok gets the joint developed TDD free. They than can sub license to any and all they wish. Won't they than be protecting their own gravy train regarding TDD and the courts?

Rmarchma, I do recall reading it. And the one below it. The part that is mentioned about (if substantially designed by Nokia) several times or for IDCC, again several times leaves to thoughts I shouldn't be concerned with. Nevertheless, it does. Let me highlight a few parts in here, would be interested if your view. BTW I'm not questioning who owns the rights, just how much Nokia can use and sub- license them and what purpose the if substantially means to either Nokia or IDCC in the 8K
4.2.4 IDC Trademark License Grant. At the request of Nokia, IDC shall grant Nokia and its affiliates a non-exclusive, non-transferable,personal, world-wide, royalty-free license to use the TDD Trademarks in conjunction with Subscriber Units and Infrastructure employing TDD, such license to be in accordance with standard trademark license terms as to maintenance of quality, and recognition of InterDigital trademark ownership
4.3.2 Technically Necessary TDD Patents. To the extent not covered bySection 4.3.1 above, Nokia shall grant, and it shall cause any of its Affiliates to grant, to IDC and its Affiliates a non-exclusive,non-transferable, personal, worldwide, royalty-free license to design, develop, manufacture and have manufactured (if substantially designed by InterDigital), market, sell, distribute and use TDD Products under (i) the Nokia TDD Patents, and (ii) those Nokia Group Patents which would otherwise necessarily be
infringed when complying with any TDD standard for Third Generation; provided, however, that such license shall only be with respect to that portion of the TDD Product performing TDD functionality and shall not apply to any non-TDD portion (e.g.,
FDD, GSM, etc) of a TDD Product
4.4.2 Nokia and its Affiliates shall have the unrestricted right to use or have used, for itself or its Affiliates, the inventions claimed under such jointly owned Developed Patents. In addition, to the extent that Nokia is sharing in the cost of patent filing, prosecution and maintenance, Nokia shall have the right under the jointly owned Developed Patents to grant sublicenses to any party, in any field, for any purpose. Nokia shall also have the right under Nokia Controlled Patents to use such Patents in any manner, and to grant sublicenses to any party, in any field, for any purpose.
Ron, the Nok contract was a real eye opener. Nice to see it in writing. A few parts that I found of interest.
Nokia acting as the lead promoter of the TDD for inclusion of technically and commercially desirable features in appropriate telecommunications standards within its regular standardization activities
My add, nice having a heavy weight in the ring.
Developed TDD Technology jointly developed by the parties shall be jointly owned by the parties
My add , ahh but who has what,or what percent
4.2.1 InterDigital Copyright and Know-How License Grant. InterDigital hereby grants to the Nokia Group a non-exclusive, non-transferable,personal, worldwide, royalty-free license under InterDigital Licensed TDD Technology (including all related TDD Technical Information as a result of the TDD Proejct) and Developed Patents,to design, develop, manufacture and have manufactured (if substantially designed by Nokia), market, sell, distribute and use Subscriber Units and Infrastructure.
My add, I'm wondering a little about the designed by Nok part, but. . . .
4.2.2 Technically Necessary TDD Patents. To the extent not covered by Section above, IDC and ITC shall grant, and they shall cause any of their Affiliates to grant, to the Nokia Group a non-exclusive,non-transferable, personal, worldwide, royalty-free license to design, develop, manufacture and have manufactured (if substantially designed by Nokia), market, sell, distribute and use TDD Products under (i) the InterDigital TDD Patents, and (ii) those InterDigital Patents which would otherwise necessarily be infringed
when complying with any TDD standard for Third Generation; provided, however, that such license shall only be with respect to that portion of the TDD Product performing TDD functionality and shall not apply to any non-TDD portion (e.g., FDD, GSM, etc) of a TDD Product.
The Nokia Group shall have no right to transfer licenses under the IDC Licensed TDD Technology or InterDigital Patents through the sale of ASICs, software or other parts to third parties
Again nice to see this in writing.
4.7.2 Subject to the provisions of Section 4.2.2, 4.3.2, 4.3.4, and 4.7.1, third party purchasers of Subscriber Units and Infrastructure licensed hereunder and purchased directly or indirectly from, respectively, Nokia or its Affiliates on the one hand or, IDC or its Affiliates or Licensees on the other hand, shall have the right to use and sell such purchased products for their normal or expected uses without further obligation under InterDigital TDD Patents, InterDigital Licensed TDD Technology, Nokia TDD Patents and Nokia Licensed TDD Technology licensed hereunder
Cooperation in Patent Infringement Assessment/Litigation.
4.8.1 Cooperation. As part of the TDD Project, InterDigital and Nokia will evaluate, on a regular basis, the applicability of third party Patents and patent applications to the TDD Technology, and take appropriate action to address any potential infringement issues. Notwithstanding the foregoing, neither InterDigital nor Nokia shall be required to undertake any TDD Project activity to the extent that, in the reasonable opinion of patent counsel for either party, the TDD Technology or may infringe, or otherwise create a potential for liability, under third party patent rights
For the avoidance of doubt, and to avoid the need to disclose the contents of the Agreements and this Amendment to customers seeking to license TDD Technology or purchase TDD components from IDC, or to foundries producing TDD products for sale, Nokia and IDC will mutually agree on a holding statement that can be provided on a confidential basis to customer and other vendors, acknowledging (i) that IDC owns all of the TDD Technology it developed under the Agreements and this Amendment, (ii) that IDC has secured sufficient and appropriate rights as regards any Nokia TDD Technology included in the results of such projects for the purpose of licensing third parties to manufacture and sell TDD products, and (iii) that such rights as regards any Nokia Patents are conditional on such third parties not asserting their Patents against Nokia Group
TC Still having a hard time putting these 3 specific events together while leaving all others off the table.
If not related to Ericy, a case could be made on the recent TDD release and this release regarding the development work.
With the Sharp license coming up a case could be made about reselling an expanded license.
But Nec ??
A NEC contract from 95 redone in 2002.
A TDD development contract with Nok but no mention of phase II
A 98 agreement with Sharp
And no mention of any others.
Yet important enough to do the release.
Those three would tie nicely for the Ericy trial. 3 solid wins, but . . . . . . .
After going over it again I now think the release wasn't because of 1 specific reason but for 3 distinctive reason covered in just one release.
Time to break it down a little more.
Loop, well I don't know here. If that was the case there wouldn't have been a need to include exhibits 10.55 and 10.56. Both related to the TDD development agreement between Nok and IDCC. Also of note is what is missing, starting with Samsung agreement.
I guess taking a step back, the first 4 exhibits concern NEC's agreement from start to current. The next 2 for development work on TDD only with Nok. And the last a PHS/PDC license agreement with Sharp.
I was thinking this is related to the trial all the way, but it appears another review is needed, this time remembering what is not included
Seems like that pretty much sums it up. From your post "This 8-K is being filed in order to file as exhibits certain
contracts which the Company and/or its subsidiary, InterDigital Technology Corporation ("ITC"), have entered into between May 8, 1995 and January 15, 2002.
OT Gary, here's that request you mentioned. Got jammed up last night but here you go.
http://www.ttrader.com/mycharts/display.php?p=9707&u=gejim&a=lightcharts&id=171
Well I won't doubt it. English was never my strong suit. Still I try and get my thoughts across, misspelled or not.
See you had Josh yesterday and Willie with "the catch " today. More home run hitters. When I think of line drive hitters I think of Ty Cobb, Pete Rose or Honus Wagner.
Still go with Ted Williams over all. Fought in two wars. Missed I believe 5 or 6 years of baseball because of it and still came in with some pretty good lifetime numbers.
HeavyDuty, made a quick chart on it. Starting to look a little top heavy and the adx is starting to correct. Money flow does show anything exciting. Shows oversold on the CCI and Williams.
NOTE should be noted I have not followed this stock and the history is just as important as the T/A.
http://www.ttrader.com/mycharts/display.php?p=9585&u=gejim&a=lightcharts&id=171
linedrivehitter, while I agree with the use of english you have presented, I didn't use there or their in the post. So I'm not sure what you are referring to.
Nevertheless I'll take that illusion you referred too.
fordiamonds. RE wedges. It's a old saying. Perhaps if we were to better word it it would be something like what happens when you run out of room.
vol is still based on the old supply and demand. Perhaps a better term is at what price are the masses willing to spend and at what vol before they are exhausted vs what prices are the sellers willing to take before they are.
Included a chart of a long view for example only.

Nokia to cut 550 jobs in Networks R&D trim (NOK) By Emily Church
Nokia (NOK) on Wednesday said it was reducing the number of R&D sites in its telecoms infrastructure division Nokia Networks and centralizing work into larger entities within the organisation. It plans to cut 550 positions in the US, the UK, Sweden and Finland, but added that a number of the employees are expected to be able to relocate within Nokia.
Data, sweet, thanks. eom
TeeCee, looks like we got that 1.5 million appox increase on the Int. side we talked about. I guess all the figures aren't in yet but should be close.
Now if we can get a little more P/R from the company we should be able to hold our own, and down the road a whole bunch of somebody else's.
Just listened to the CC. Many things can be said. I'll just stick with solid. And if you look under the first layer confidently so
Feel'in good
I'm like'in it. Always good to SEE growth. eom
Data, it appears many have their end to end solutions in place.
"The company now offers solutions for personal video telephony working end-to-end on a fully integrated dual-mode WCDMA/GSM platform, using a cost-effective small-sized solution"
What would make IDCC's end to end solution they have been working out different?
And yes tech isn't my strong suit.
TIA
JimLur, sorry to hear that. "Quite a few jumped on me for that which will not happen again because I don’t plan on posting any more heads up"
Bottom line, were close and it's going to be fun.
Replay on the InterDigital case against Ericsson to start in May
STOCKHOLM, Feb 10 (Reuters) - The start of a trial in a mobile technology patent dispute between InterDigital (NasdaqNM:IDCC - News) of the United States and Swedish telecoms equipment maker Ericsson (Stockholm:ERICb.ST - News) has been postponed until May 15, Ericsson said on Monday.
The lawsuit concerning mobile phone technology patents had been due to start on Monday. It has been dragging on since 1993 when the companies filed suits against each other.
[MY add, a simple notice of the delay but interesting wording, {has been dragging}]
Interdigital also sued Motorola (NYSE:MOT - News) for patent infringement, but lost
[My add this could have been left out, could be for historical ref, could be a little spin.]
Loss-making Ericsson, the world's biggest producer of mobile networks, would not say which patents the alleged infringement concerned, what its damage liability would be if it lost, or why it had taken 10 years to bring the case to trial.
[ my add again nothing from nothing leaves nothing, but we have again the 10 years delay brought in ]
"There is nothing new, except that the date of the trial has been postponed to May 15," said Ericsson spokesman Peter Olofsson. "I don't know why, it was not on Ericsson's request. We believe there was no patent infringement by us."
[My add. So far removed from the case that Peter doesn't even know why it was delayed, but yet close enough to remember that they certainly couldn't have infringed]LOL
Swedish business daily Dagens Industri said on Monday InterDigital demanded licence fees of between 2.5 and five percent of Ericsson's handset sales from the early 1990s and between 1.5 and 3.5 percent of mobile network sales in that period.
[my add some decent figures]
If InterDigital wins the case, Ericsson could face payments of tens of billions of crowns, the daily reported.
[my add, tens of billions of crowns, can you feel the tension on the ericy side]
The paper reported that Ericsson was confident it would win because the technology which InterDigital has patented had been known in the industry before the patent filing was made. Ericsson shares did not react to the report, trading flat at 6.35 crowns at 0912 GMT.
[ my add ,really, so where does it say that ericy holds the patents, if not owned by IDCC then why is nobody else coming forward to sue ericy since it's now obvious that ericy doesn't own them, that was a poor statement left open ended like that, weak ,real weak. ]
Anyway have a good day
mschere, thats a good post and shows again there is more to this company than Ericy. The company's future is still being defined. And as you point out TDD's will also be a part of it.
It is the right of any shareholder to question the actions of the company, if so desired. To request information of these actions and what effect it could have upon their investment. Doesn't mean the company will respond to any request however.
If they are in settlement talks or not I don't believe whatever action taken by a shareholder, either from this board another board or no board at all will have or would have the slightest effect on it.
Regarding talks of licenses, the sales force will constantly be talks with possible licenses, they have been all along , and will be in the future. As far as twiddling, I think a great has been done as they do wait, and have been waiting. The engineers have been the backbone of this company, not the BOD
Regarding your opinion on the effect of some shareholders and the playing of roulette. I understand your opinion and appreciate your concerns but my opinion is this is such a small matter and that little or nothing will be the end result.
I agree that the company should be run by the people within and not from this board but I also feel there should be more communication from these same people on what they can afford.
Regarding trusting current management, I here for the I/P that was developed, and what that I/P should be worth, not invested in this company because of its management.
Sophist, your thoughts have merit but a bit overdone don't you think.
A crusade of reformist's attacking the very nerve center {BOD} in order to gain a voice over the control of the governance of power?
Perhaps, perhaps not.
Perhaps it was merely a request to have an open form of communications between the company and it's shareholders. THE KIND THAT MOST OTHER COMPANIES HAVE AS THE NORM.
This meeting was cancelled by the company, it shouldn't have been regardless of reasons given. Leave us not forget who owns this company. And where is it written that the institutional investors should be given more information that the individual investors? Wasn't that old school rule dealt with back a year or two ago?
Regarding institutional trading, they have been trading in and out frequently for the last few years as I have posted and have followed. I know the pattern well and IMHO to try and use a failed meeting as the focus point of all trading is ridiculous.
RE: I don't know the exact time sequencing of all this, but it appears to be over the past couple of months. Now, I ask, does the recent steady decline in IDCC share price coincide with these institutional sell-offs?
No. What does relate is the fact of the overbought condition of this company, it's sector and the NAS. And the obvious correction that was to follow the over bought condition. Three such cycles last year. Normal trading cycles for that matter.
RE: the distracting of our company from its laser beam focus on its most important, climactic efforts to resolve IDCC vs ERICY
Don't think F&J , the judge nor the courts are going to be effected by the communication concern you mentioned.
RE: . Even if we grant their noble intentions, with which many of us may agree, to pick this moment in the company's long and difficult history to afflict them with this distraction, at this moment of their greatest need for determination of spirit, clarity of focus, need for our support and good will, even cheerleading, is to be more like an unwitting ally of Ericy and its fellow cohorts sowing seeds for self-doubt and self-examination instead of the total commitment necessary for the mighty task at hand
The BOD is waiting just like the rest of us . The negotiating teams will not be effected nor will the courts.
Frankly I think you giving too much thought and credit to the realistic impact that this effort could cause, which In my opinion will be minimal at best
