Aahhhh ... fark it - KILL ...
Hey, hope the New Year sees you very lively.
Best,

At the least, China is at the point where it can grow much more food than before. There's a big motivation difference between unemployment and starvation.
Makes you wonder if the US would have been settled thru westerly expansion, if we'd had an internet / sex trade / abundant liquor / video games et al on the east coast.
Happy New Year,
rr

It's up a bit this past week, but I remain concerned that the Fed might kill me and never even notice the bump in the road.
My working opinion is that the Fed will concentrate on mortgage stuff per se, and not (more than now) the 10 year. Mortgage APR's never got much below 4.7%, even on short term (10-15) years.
Let's see what happens when The One borrows his first Trillion.
Have a great weekend.

ps - anyone using Chrome and having issues with this text edit box? Odd behaviors. probably Bush's fault

"No doubt now about 1250,but is it real or another bull trap?"
It's like the classic response about fake boobs - If I can get my hands on the profits, they're real.

Today is a full day, I believe.
Here's a simple reason to be wary.
Buy signals happen when RSI(5) goes under 20 and then penetrates 30.
Sell signals happen when RSI(5) goes over 80, and then penetrates 70.
Going back these 25 days (and 5 months, not shown here), double high peaks are always followed by pretty good declines in price. We're in the second of a double peak sell.
I sold TNA into the second peak, about 3:59, at the close.
Just my opinion, and I reserve the right to be wrong, but I think tomorrow shows some interesting down.
rr
Not so!!
"The Spirit", a genuinely odd movie, has a hero who heals really, really fast. The bad guy gets it in the end. It is very NOT PC.
And, it's loaded with very attractive actresses. Hot, you might say.
Happy New Year.
rr
Merry Christmas to you as well.
Good Bye? Seems harsh.
Regards,

Must be the weather ...
Good luck.

Here, "minor accumulations" are a few more inches. Ho hum ...

Right now APR's, no points either, at my FCU ...
15 yr 4.905%
30 yr 5.017%
The last time, I do not recall that banks had such large capital requirements to re-fill.
As such, it'll be like putting gas in a car. That last squeeze may be the issue, not the first dozen gallons.
rr
My FCU just changed it's rates for the first time today ...
15 Year Fixed Rate Show All Options
Rate Points APR Payment Closing Fees Total Cost Apply
4.375% 1.625% 4.650% $1,972.41 $8,846.00
4.500% 0.875% 4.662% $1,988.98 $6,896.00
4.625% 0.375% 4.711% $2,005.63 $5,596.00

It looks like we're about to get a re-fi binge for prime loans.
Even with the 10-year T-Bill at 2.1%, it's unlikely people will be able to re-finance for less than 4.8% APR for a 15-year mortgage.
In 2003 the risk factors were such that you could get a 15-year loan at 3% and 3.15% APR if the TNX was at 2.1%.
=====
Yes, I think we will get a refi binge, provided the banks don't chew up all my freed up cash flow in fees / points. $200/mo savings is OK, but not if it costs me $6000 up front.
We shall see. My FCU rate page is in my daily open tabs set.

Damn, I work for 3 minutes and TNA gets away. Sharp shiny toy ...
Anyhow, population growth has (almost?) always been an leading predictor of economic growth, IIRC. Not sure about the cohort ratios historically.
Japan's shrinking in so many ways.
rr
I understand your perspective. And, I'd disagree at at some length, with some nuance.
But I gotta watch my TNA ... and work.
rr
I'm not convinced we'll be Japan quite yet. We've got lots more immigrants, and a lot more entrenched Criminal groups at odds with each other.
I hope the sushi and beer gets as good. Much else will suck, though.
rr
We have liftoff ... on a speculative Bloomberg story ...
rr
I believe the argument being made was that, after the Fed exhausted lowering the Funds rate target (to zero, more or less) the Fed would buy long T-bills and bonds, to force long rates down.
Whether they'll try it, will succeed at it, will get the effect they want, I dunno. Just recounting the argument.

rr
There's a lot of speculation that the Fed will be able to force down long rates, causing mortgage rates to go sub-5%, maybe low 4's. Today's StockTiming email says, if the Fed gifts that deal to you, take it.
Are there enough solvent mortgage holders capable of getting the deal, and how much free cash might that generate?
I could use a few hundred bucks a month extra. It'll help defray my property taxes
rr
RSI(5) on 60 minute $SPX coming down from above 70. Looks like a sell signal soon. I'm betting on a tickle to keep it high, and a spike for the thrill, thru Fed news, and then hope to get out of TNA at 'just the right moment'.
Beats working ...
rr
Bruce,
Thanks,
rr
Well ... good luck with that. And, you might want to keep an eye on your fire axe.
Can you recommend a sound card? Just PC noises, nothing special.
thx,
rr
I've got a Gigabyte p965-DSP board, using the on-board audio to drive Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 (really, old) speakers. One day, the entire left side (front and back) decided to not put out any sound.
I played around with the speaker wires enough to convince myself that the left side of the Klipsch amp doesn't put out any signal.
Using a stereo plug into one of the output ports on the mobo, into the receiver near the machine, I don't get any sound out the left side there, either. Now the sound circuitry / left channel is all dead too?
Anybody got any debugging / assurance of death tests I might try? Failing all that, any soiund card recommendations? Future machines will be 64-bit, and I really hate Creative's current crap ...
Thanks,
rr
$SPX on a 1 minute chart has bounced off 885 four times in the past few days. That's odd.
rr
There's a triple bottom on the $SPX 1 minute chart at 885 (.38 .79 .45)
rr
Yup, the 255W was on the short list at $170-ish, until the 205W came along for less.
IIRC, the difference was BlueTooth.
Thanks,

I don't mean to be unkind this holiday season, but AJ is SO far behind on pony delivery, well, I think he needs his own PPT - Pony Provision Team.

W: you wrote: "$150 sounds good. Is that the one you want, or the one you have?"
Well, yes, kind of.
It's the one I want, and it's the one I told my Wife I'd like for a Christmas gift, and I think it's the one she bought. At CompUSA, the web site now. It's $179.99 there now.
I wanted a 'starter' GPS, with the biggest screen I wanted to pay for, with as few bells/whistles as I could find.
Prices for GPS' dropped like rocks the past few months.
I'll make sure I got the model number correct, but I need to be at home for that.
rr
I pretty sure you'll need a price point
I'm looking in the $150 range. Garman 205W if I recall correctly.
I think that case connector whatzit is the best thing ever in case design.
WTF they don't come with every motherboard, when they can afford to send along tons of crap ware and other junk, is a mystery to me though.
Best regards,
rr
A parts list would be fine. Words are worth a thousand pictures
Merry Christmas !!!!

OT1: One of the most interesting years of my life, I flew from here to Austin 40 times. The Corporate Jet was better than commercial, because while the Delta Club in Cincinnati was open bar, the Jet Maker's Mark decanter was always full. At least, when I got on.
OT2: BCS is a lot like TA - just numbers. Hook 'em Horns. Go Texas.
On Topic at last: I'd prefer a close over 916.88 too, but would prefer one much, much higher. One week at a time, I guess.
Best,
rr
OT: I love dogs.
On topic: That overbought condition is working itself off. Do you have a time/price opinion of how long that needs to take?
Merry Christmas, and I hope it's warmer where you are than here,
rr
EP,
I agree on oil. Moved a chunk of the tough to trade 401(k) into Vanguard's Energy fund (COB Monday coming up).
rr
OT: My deepest apologies. 'Skins scored 7, so I'm a FG from covering.
In yet another pool, I'm 2 games down. I need this one and Monday. Jeepers.
rr
Yes, they are. But, it's a long night, and deep frozen here.
Me, I got Washington and 5 points, so I'm hoping for SOME offense from the 'Skins.
Fullness of time, C U in the am, and all that,
