Isnt it also the accounting rules they have had to implement now where pricing the loans is crazy. I remember reading somewhere that after Enron they changed accounting rules for many of these banks and now they have to account for them differently than before. Which lays the problem for some of these loans since their are no buyers for some hence the 0 valuation and the huge writedowns. Someday I would think there will be a valuation and there will be write ups .. Or am I way off base

It is is similiar to fiberglass boats nowadays. When they were made of wood etc they would eventually rot etc. With fiberglass they never go bad. All those boats that were around in 1970 are still around. Maybe they have new engines but they are still around.
