7:51...Nasgovitz of Heartland coming up on Bloomberg TV very shortly (maybe next)
Postyle, I stand corrected...I have not heard them say it since so INCORRECTLY threw that out as a possibility...thanks for correction....
mickey, I think all of us have put too much emphasis on that "engine & transmission" comment. I believe that comment which was 3 or closer to 4 years ago may not apply today. I believe much has evolved both technologically and via the standards that might not support that comment at this moment. It might be a good question to ask mgmt at the ASM and see if he would still categorize it like that. One other thing that I think is weighing on us that you mentioned...."ERICY getting resolved will validate our patents and have others lining up in K of P." I know its only been 6-7 weeks since ERICY but I somehow think that the minimal settlement didn't do enough to get the others shaking in their shoes. I think NOK will/is fighting hard to diminish the amount they owe us and will drag it to arbitration, I hope to heck I am wrong. I would rather go to arbitration than settle for a penny on the dollar (during this negotiation period)like we did with ERICY. I hope my pessimism is irradicated with the cc and earning release in 10 days.....holding every share I can and adding shares every payday..
GBR, I totally understand what you are trying to say but you are barking up the wrong tree. He can't get your drift that maybe he would have a little more credibility if he would talk about "a positive" from time to time. I will give you an example, there is no bigger cheerleader here than mickeybritt and I have been critical at times of his rah rah, but recently mickey questioned the action of IDCC on couple of things and that gave me a whole new respect for mickey, because HE (not the board as a whole) was able to have some balance and openmindedness about the questionables that surround IDCC.
Once,
I think it is just an incomplete post for you to bring up the 3 years of the GSM contract and lead people to think "oh that must be the end of the money coming from ERICY." You spin as you see fit that is fine. A comment like that is like saying as soon as 2G is no longer the predominant std, revenue from IDCC's licensee's will be gone.....
Once, why am I not surprised you liked the article.....you might keep in mind this comes from a QCOM fan that has most likely experienced a ride down on the value of his QCOM shares.....this sentence just a paragraph or so in, told me it would be a completely tainted and biased posting
"this company as one that has claimed to be the next Qualcomm for some time".
Unless I am mistaken IDCC never said that it was the talking heads on CNBC.
and for you to throw out that "the GSM ERICY agreement expires in 3 short years....so you think that will be the end of funds coming in from ERICY? You best rethink that shorty.
IDCC has stated that they have essential patents for 2G 2.5G and all five "flavors" of 3G.....
Jean Michel Just because some of the technology may be complimentary, don't think for a minute that they aren't also competitors. Additionally the idemnifier could certainly be QCOM based on the possibility that some of the protocol might be competitive although not essential...as in use either to accomplish the same function....just a thought, no techie here but seems quite possible
loop, keep on posting your opinion, if anyone has forgotten that is what this forum is for, to exchange information, thoughts, perspectives, and ideas. Some people here think that if you don't have the same perspective as they do you shouldn't post....To me this is a legitimate discussion that should take place even if some of the statements are wrong or off the wall. We have already seen corrections to posts and more indepth info provided due to the discussion..... BTW it doesn't change my opinion of how well the company will do, its going to be outstanding, nor am I concerend with today tomorrow or even next weeks share price. I think its aboout the proper policy and practice of the company that we are invested in and we should discuss it.....thats my opinion
On another topic, is #4 shown below from the proxy something that any of you have seen before? Is it just a standard statement? It seems a bit odd to me and I was wondering if this my tell us something intersting might be coming our way soon. The bolded is mine and what seems to be quite open ended
"(iv) With respect to any other matter that properly comes before the Annual Meeting or any adjournment thereof, proxy holders will vote on such matter in accordance with the recommendation of the Board of Directors, and if no recommendation is given, in their own discretion and judgment"
Jim...Absolutely.....run the survey, we as a group will have no chance of influencing ANY outcome on a proxy unless some of the institutions vote the same way.
Ken, can you give me a good reason why? I would be all for incnetives for engineers, sales team.....but it obviously isn't spelled out and my guess is that the gravy train would get 95% of them. I am so so dang pro IDCC but I am even more pro performance driven, plain and simple these guys haven't earned this kind of compensation, IMO. Deliver and then I will be happy to pay away....It is so easy for them to just keep selling when they know the pipeline will be refilled, that doesn't seem right to me.
Proxy statement for ASM....the four items are listed below in a condensed form....Is number (iv) a standard statement, it seems a little odd? Number (ii) will CERTAINLY bring more discussion here...I hope they have good news up their sleeve prior to that proxy hitting our mailboxes or that might be a tough sell to those here..
A form of proxy is enclosed for use at the Annual Meeting. Proxies will be voted in accordance with shareholders’ instructions. If no instructions are indicated on the proxy, all shares represented by valid proxies received pursuant to the solicitation (and not revoked before they are voted) will be voted (i) FOR the election of the nominees named below as directors, (ii) FOR the approval of the amendment to the Company’s 2000 Stock Award and Incentive Plan to increase the number of shares authorized for issuance thereunder, and (iii) FOR the ratification of the appointment of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as the Company’s independent accountants for the Company’s fiscal year ending December 31, 2003. (iv) With respect to any other matter that properly comes before the Annual Meeting or any adjournment thereof, proxy holders will vote on such matter in accordance with the recommendation of the Board of Directors, and if no recommendation is given, in their own discretion and judgment. A proxy may be revoked at any time before it is voted at the Annual Meeting. Proxies may be revoked by timely delivery of (a) a timely notice of revocation in writing or by electronic
Once, thanks for the reply but I have never had much belief in your predictions....A lot of water will go under the bridge between now and 2004 and my prediction we will be well north of $22 a share between then and now and many here will have exited....How many shares do you presently own?...BTW I prefer you never send an e-mail to my personal address....thank you
Dumpter, I remember a post from him that said he was tired of all the b.s. and nonsense on the board and was going to take a few weeks off from the board...I don't blame him....
Old news wasn't it? Where is the share price today vs. where it was back when this was reported. I think everyone agrees it effects share price but every company I own stock in has mgmt & directors sell. I saw the CEO of Union Pacific railroad yesterday and he sold 88,000 shares back in the early winter in order to pay off a large note that was due on a piece of Real Estate....they sell for all kinds of reasoning and us complaining about it isn't going to change a thing..
OT: while this availability via the popular search engine "Google" has created quite a stir, the same info has been available for a longtime on the net at "anywho" which has a reverse phone lookup that does the same thing. I guess my point is that if its public info there ares 100 ways to Sunday to back into information if you really want it. Just taking your number off the google list won't do much if someone REALLY wants an address to go with a phone number
USA Today article...would one of you great composers like to send a little follow-up to this gent at USA Today...maybe he can see QCOM isn't the end all.
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/kevinmaney/2003-04-22-qualcomm_x.htm
wash...I received also and am not very happy about it...wouldn't you know he would be the One to abuse that feature...I have however blocked his e-mails although he will just change aliases everytime he wants to badger us.
mschere, I hope you are right here by I have a very hard time belieiving that nearly all of these companies won't "fight" their royalty obligations (just as I think NOK will, via arbitration). The financial status of many companies will be the the driving force to delay and/or reduce the amounts that they most likely owe IDCC for 2/2.5G Again I hope you are right that they will beat a path to K of P but I am a bit pessimistic on that point.
mschere, the only reasons IMO the stock isn't at twice the current price is a couple of parts of your post
1. "a possible $600 Million revenue stream for 2003"
POSSIBLE, is the word the street is struggling with
2. "IMO:IF you believe the $360-$430 Million cash flow from Ericsson, Ericsson/Sony , Nokia and Samsung 2G...It is a no brainer for an additional $100 Million from NEC, Sharp, Matsushita and $50 Million more from Nokia, and Samsung that will bring their 2002, 2003 3G royalties current. This will bring almost $600 Million into IDCC's bank account assuming no other 2G or 3G deals in the next 8 1/2 months..
That is the big IF,and remember NOTHING is guaranteed in regards to NEC, Sharp.......delay of payment may happen IMO due to some current economic situations and longterm possiblities with these licensees....
I just think it is rather obvious if these figures were as slamdunk as people talk about here we would be double or triple where we are today. When we prove it, watch out then it will run....
Here comes the attempt....for them to dip us below 20.....
, they dropped the bid from 20.25 to 20.14 just like that...
Amen Data....yes listening to the pump got me in some hot water but, also taught me a lesson....Certain posters use the word "fact" quite often when its really only THEIR strong belief. People should understand that it is just as bad to have the constant pump going on as the constant bash and negativity. Your contribution here is appreciated.......by many including me
mschere..touche'.....that was the laugh I needed today......chad...not a chad...
Thanks FlyNAvy...for lettting me know old Once was still around....he has been on Ignore for over a week and MAN is that a great feature.....Fly is the guy and correct, quit responding, if he doesn't have all your "responses" to read he might be able to read the report!!
mschere...thanks for clearing that up, I know I am just catching up from the exchange from early last night...now as long as that word EXPECTED doesn't get twisted I am cool with that 34 mill in first qtr
dndodd, it may be adressed in posts going forward that I haven't read yet but I thought that the $34 mill was spread over a year and that they expected 16 mill for 2003. I assumed that would be book at the rate of $4 million a qtr....I will go re-read...thanks for the update
mschere, I hope you are right about that .50 but I will bet you it is less than half of that......I have a feeling it won't get on the first qtr books.....but 2nd will be very good
ellis, if you don't mind to me also...falconftr@yahoo.com
thanks
daniel...i thought so but thought I better help it along or someone would start screaming...
nieves.....34,000 out of 18,000,000 now I see why the wow...I know you were jesting.....due to the boards feelings on that...
dndodd, I agree with you. Until there is an update as to the status of Nok and Samsung, release of 1st qtr earnings, or other new news this board is going to be "crud". There simply isn't much to discuss except the same old same old that many cranky folks like to bring up. I am not spending much time here anymore as many of the good informative posters have said the heck with the nonsense. I check a couple times a day to see if anything new has come about and in the last 3 weeks there has been nothing new to discuss. I think everyone needs to find something else to do until more news is released, until then we will only have the pouters, instigators, and whiners making their presence known with their same old tunes.
sjratty...you don't want the obvious 34 million answer but that, in my opinion is a lot of it right now. Most all expected much more or if at that small amount, a juicy 3G licnese accompanying it. The other is that we DO NOT have money in the bank regarding NOK and Samsung. Everyone can shout until they are blue in the face about what was said in the cc and 10Q regarding the nice sums of money expected from them but I think until the money is in the bank Wall Street will wait and watch. So many things have gone badly over the years for IDCC that I think many are wanting PROOF that things are different and that we won't somehow get scrwed again. If IDCC settles for cents on the dollar with NOK and Samsung vs what was mentioned in the cc we won't have established much credibility for enforcing dollars owed. If IDCC gets the money that they stated we are entitled to then doubling the share price from here won't be a problem at all. Until then patience patience patience......This is all just my opinion
OT: I will disagree with you there boog...Kansas didn't play well...miss 16 free throws, a normally good 3 pt shooting team goes 4-20, fact of the matter is Syracuse played their best and won, Kansas did not and didn't. It's single elimination....Syracuse gets the trophy...end of story.
OT: Rock Chalk Jayhawk...Only time I would go agaisnt the boogie man but a Jayhawk I am......time for the tube and a cold one
Not so bad huh, you bellyachers....the market ended up just being OKAY today. IDCC held up reasonably well if the Insider Sale was such a big deal. All in all just not much shaking today but Tuesday could be intersting....maybe K of P will have a Tuesday surprise for us. Board has really gone to crap IMO....I guess not much to discuss until Samsung/Nok get taken care of....other than that its a bunch of beating up on the same old complaints....same old same old.....
jimlur...as an addition to your question. Would there be any reason they shouldn't issue a press release? I guess I can't think of any strategic reason not to confirm to the street and your shareholders that "we have now received the funds from Samsung and Nokia that we anticipated". Now that ERICY is out of the way I really hoped that IDCC would do what they could to elimiinate so many questions/answers that seem like they should be available to the public. Heck I don't even care if they tell us how much, just that they received would be fine by me until SEC filing....just to confirm they aren't playing the arbitration game..
Your "Ingore" of Onceinalifetime is successful
Once, just a question. Why did you disappear until there was a big drop? Where were you on the run from 12-24 when we found out the truth about where IDCC is heading now that ERICY is over?
Norfolk, I am glad they are buying they're just not exactly a bunch of big spenders are they? They are diversifying....(TIC).lol
