Arch et al. . .EZ is having problems with his computer and accessing the POW thread. I think it's just his PC. Nonetheless, if you know of others that may be having a difficult time accessing the site. . .please contact Matt. I've been wondering why things have been so slow lately. And if the people who are having difficulty accessing the site can't communicate their concerns, we definitely have a problem. Lets get together and see if we can figure this out.
On another note. . .I've been a little "slow" lately because I'm just a little "down" from looking at the news as of late. I realize, however, that there is no other way for the future to be safe unless we finish this war. I guess I thought I'd never live to see these types of things. . .and now I realize it's a reality. I just don't know what to do, I guess. I sure would like to come up with an answer to bring it all to an end and just not think about it any more. Hell, I've got a college education and my physical conditioning is EXCELLENT. But because of my age, the military won't accept me. . .nor will the CIA or FBI. There's something very WRONG about that IMO!
Peace. . .

I like your thoughts. Sometime it's nice to read other people's opinions. Many times, there is no right and wrong. It's just good to sometimes see other people's opinions. The sad thing is that things/events. . .etc, always have to be proven before people will understand. Some people say it is best to understand/verify these things/events. . .in order to add credibility. Others will just shrug it all off.. .and hope that some people move into the side of a mountain (Bill Gates and his family) or something. Sometimes. . .the best thing is to keep one's mouth shut. Maybe just move to the mountains and think things "alone" within one's own mind. Not many people out there that bounce ideas off one another. Life.

Bush Plugs Military Plan to Troops
By SONYA ROSS
.c The Associated Press
EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (AP) - President Bush told cheering troops Monday that the military needs big budget increases to replace aging aircraft and buy new weapons for ``a long campaign to rid the world of terrorists.''
Some of the loudest applause from his audience at Eglin Air Force Base came when the president promised a 4.1 percent pay raise for the military.
The president stepped off Air Force One and greeted his brother, Gov. Jeb Bush, with a handshake. It was the president's seventh visit to Florida since taking office - his second in five days - and a political boost for his brother's re-election campaign.
``I always enjoy coming to states which have a great governor,'' Bush said, drawing a round of applause. ``Enough said.''
Bush, wearing a brown leather flight jacket with an Eglin logo and an American flag patch, gave a get-tough speech about the war against terrorism, and ate lunch with airmen and women.
Bush urged Congress to fund every dime of the $48 billion Pentagon budget increase he unveiled Monday. He played up the promised pay raise ``for those who wear the uniform'' while playing down divisions on Capitol Hill and talk of a return to federal red ink.
``We're unified in Washington on winning this war,'' Bush said. ``The budget I submit recognizes the vital role the military will play and recognizes we have only one alternative, and that is victory.''
At the dining hall, Bush ordered up beef - ``carne,'' he called it - and rice to go with a slab of iced carrot cake. He belatedly added something green.
``Sure, I'll have green beans,'' he said with a shrug. ``I'm trying to set a good example.''
In his speech, Bush said the United States was pursuing its next objective after toppling the Taliban: ``To run down al-Qaida and the rest of the terrorists and maybe give them a free trip to Guantanamo Bay,'' where more than 150 al-Qaida and Taliban fighters are being detained.
``I'm a patient man. I don't have a set calendar. All I know is we've got them on the run,'' Bush said.
Bush's new budget seeks an array of new high-tech weapons and equipment.
The successful campaign in Afghanistan proved the value of precision weapons, not only in defeating the enemy but in sparing innocent lives, Bush said. ``And the budget I submit makes it clear we need more of them.''
``We need to be agile, quick to move. We need to be able to send our troops on the battlefields in places that many of us never thought there would be a battlefield. We need to replace aging aircraft and get ready to be able to defend freedom with the best equipment possible,'' he said.
Bush said the Sept. 11 terrorists were getting more than they possibly bargained for when they struck the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
``When you strike one American, you strike all Americans, and you can expect to hear from us,'' Bush said.
Eglin serves as headquarters for the Air Armament Center, which develops, tests and maintains all of the Air Force's air-delivered weapons, including those used in Afghanistan.

Accounting Worries Drag Down Stocks
Reuters
NEW YORK (Feb. 4) - Stocks fell sharply Monday, the broad market skidding to a three-month low, as eroding confidence in corporate accounting drove out investors fearful of holding the next Enron Corp., the former Wall Street darling now bankrupt and trading for pennies per share.
The Dow Jones industrial average got ripped for a 220.17-point loss, or 2.22 percent, to 9,687.06, according to the latest data. The Nasdaq composite tumbled 55.72 points, or 2.92 percent, to 1,855.52. The benchmark Standard & Poor's 500 dropped 27.76 points, or 2.47 percent, to 1,094.44.
''You can't believe financial statements,'' said Mace Blicksilver, a money manager at Marblehead Asset Management. ''It's not like just a bad quarter or an earnings miss -- you're re-evaluating the entire price-to-earnings ratio of the marketplace.''
The stock market is reeling amid profound questioning of the clarity and truth of Corporate America's bookkeeping, sparked by energy trader Enron's complex accounting and off-balance-sheet transactions, which preceded its record bankruptcy filing in early December.
Shares of firms with complicated financial structures, ranging from conglomerates Tyco International Ltd. and General Electric Co. to drugmaker Elan Corp. and network equipment maker Enterasys Networks Inc., fell. Telecommunications stocks slid on worries a recent rash of bankruptcies will snowball.
Tyco, the Big Board's most active stock, was knocked down after revelations that it spent around $8 billion on more than 700 acquisitions that were never publicly announced. Tyco lost $6.96, or almost 19 percent, to close at $29.90.

U.S., British Planes Bomb Iraq
By BEN HOLLAND
.c The Associated Press
ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) - U.S. and British planes patrolling a no-fly zone over northern Iraq bombed Iraqi air defense systems Monday in response to anti-aircraft fire, U.S. officials said.
It was the first time U.S. and British planes had bombed Iraq's north since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States, said Capt. Brian Cullin of the U.S. European Command. Allied planes over northern Iraq have been repeatedly fired on since Sept. 11.
The bombing came amid a rising debate on whether Iraq will be the next target of the U.S. anti-terror campaign.
The bombs were dropped after Iraqi forces northeast of Mosul fired on a routine air patrol, the U.S. European Command said. ``All coalition aircraft departed the area safely,'' the U.S. statement said.
Iraq's official news agency said four people in Mosul were killed in the bombing.
U.S. and British planes based in southeast Turkey have been flying patrols over northern Iraq since 1991. The two countries say the patrols are designed to protect the Kurdish population from Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.
``There's a day-to-day commitment made by three very strong coalition partners ... toward a population we still feel we have an obligation to protect,'' Cullin said from Stuttgart, Germany.
Expectations that Iraq could be the next target of the U.S.-led anti-terror campaign were strengthened by President Bush's State of the Union address last week.
Bush said Iraq was part of an ``axis of evil,'' along with Iran and North Korea, and accused it of seeking weapons of mass destruction.
Turkey, host to the air patrols and a launching pad for strikes against Iraq in the 1991 Gulf War, has expressed anxiety over the prospect of war in Iraq - fearing the fall of the Baghdad regime could lead to creation of a Kurdish state and boost aspirations of autonomy-seeking Kurds in Turkey.
Turkey's Prime Minister, Bulent Ecevit, warned Saddam on Monday to admit U.N. weapons inspectors in order to head off possible U.S. military action.
Iraq has refused since 1998 to allow U.N. inspectors into the country to check if the Baghdad regime has dismantled its weapons of mass destruction. Baghdad has rejected a U.S. warning to admit the inspectors or face the consequences.
In a letter to Hussein, Ecevit warned of the ``severe consequences to be encountered'' if Iraq does not allow the inspection.
Also Monday, Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan said America's ``dirty'' foreign policy could prompt attacks worse than those of Sept. 11, according to an interview published in the Russian newspaper Vremya Novostei.
``Since Sept. 11, they (Americans) have further strengthened the course that led to the events in New York and Washington, their policies have become even more dirty,'' Ramadan was quoted as saying in Baghdad.
``If things continue like this, I believe that America will draw an even stronger backfire. Something more terrible than Sept. 11 will happen,'' he was quoted as saying.
He didn't say where the threat to the United States would come from, or provide any evidence.

No doubt, we all love HRCT. But these predictions of yours are getting ridiculous. There are environmental concerns right now that are taking place around the globe. There is ABSOLUTELY no way to predict what is giong to happen with the financial markets. NO WAY! Your intentions are good, and we can all see that. However, the market is volatile and unless you know of another company that is going to buyout HRCT at 50 cents a share, how can you state what you said?
Peace. . .and lets start taking a look at some of the things that need to be considered pertaining the MARKET. . .and not necessarily HRCT. We got problems on the horizon, folks. We have the WTC's that have gone down. . .and we have some BIG words coming out of Washington. No-matter how much one believes in a stock. . .they should consider their families, friends. . .and cohorts. God I hope I'm wrong.
Peace. . .

Just some thoughts. . .
George Bush has asked all Americans to dedicate a LOT of free time to assist communities. Volunteer work.
George Bush has recently submitted a 3 trillion dollar budget program to congress for approval. THREE TRILLION. A big part of that expenditure is intended to be applied towards the war on terrorism.
There have been "alerts" as of late, that caution two major Middle East countries about harboring terrorists. In fact, there has been an announcement that the next leg of the war is about to begin.
In the market ~~ I love America and everything it stands for. And I enjoy the financial markets. I also enjoy the research and study of economics. Although, I'll be the first to admit that these areas are not my areas of expertise. I'm just going to avoid throwing caution into the wind. . .at present. Even though the markets are at a bottom, I think it's a good time to grab ahold of caution. I'm watching the trading behavior in the market. . .and sensing something I don't care much for. And when one reads the type of commentary that was quoted as having been said by Bill Gates, one has to be careful. Particularly if one's thoughts prior to the publication are similar to the man of wisdom. Let me put it this way. . .the commentary of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet should be strongly considered in this market environment. They . . .know, and understand . . .the repurcussions of economies and economics during times of turmoil. As all I'm saying is. . .keep an eye on those red flags! There are things in life that are much more important than money. And something tells me we're all going to get closer to those items.
Peace. . .
(**Notice. . .the best stock to look at right now might be your neighbors, friends and family. Set stop points on everything. Stay alive and give everything you have to create "strength" within your families and neighborhoods. )
God Bless America. . .
M&M Man
Arch,
I'm pretty sure we're in for another bleak day. There are several signs out there that things aren't going to get much better anytime soon. Still have my college degree! Ah, geesh. This "Middle East" thing is going to kill our market and make a LOT of people. . .poor. A LOT of people without college educations. A LOT of elderly who didn't worry about college educations. Sorry about the bleak outlook but after some research. . .I think / believe the best thing for people to do right now is get VERY close to the people they love. Put enough aside in some sort / type of account to survive for a year. Don't play with much cash at all. In fact, watch out for the stock market. Go out and contribute to your communities.
Point being. . .not only has IRAN, IRAQ and N. KOREA had fair warning. . .SO HAVE WE! Anyone that thinks this war on terrorism isn't going to reveal some serious sh** is WRONG. The patience of the world is at hand.
God Bless America. Get close to your neighbors and families!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Peace. . .
M&M Man
Exactly. eom
M&M Man
By the way. . .
God Bless America. I'm not particularly a fan of football. . .not since the Chicago Bears era, that is. . .but I'm glad the Pats won the game. There is a destiny that our Supreme guidance wishes upon us all. That is a "free world" for all. Only when the "empire of evil" can be destroyed, will "freedom" prevail. God bless the Statue of Liberty and all good people that stand for America's standards and beliefs. God trusting people did not ask for this war. We did not initiate this war. . .and we WILL end this war! Enough!
Congratulations Patriots. It's a GREAT year to be PATRIOTIC!!!!
NEVER CAVE IN TO EVIL!~

Like Hotsearch said. . .lets get the REAL HRCT investors over here. . .and from time-to-time. . .set up a campaign to let others on the RB site / thread know that the Ihub thread exists. Myself, I admire the efforts of some of those who continue to go over to RB. . .but after a few years of dealing with the commentary stemming from Possino, Mazur. . .and their boyfriends... I no longer enjoy the mental atrophy of the bashers as proported longs testify to be warriors, etc. Let us all just get the show on the road and communicate at a round table where the children can be left at day-care centers (children of the investment world NOW spend their time on the RB's site/thread). The grownups know where to go to communicate.

Important stragglers set to report
By Barbara C. Costanza, CBS.MarketWatch.com
Last Update: 3:51 AM ET Feb. 3, 2002
LOS ANGELES (CBS.MW) -- While the majority of companies in the S&P 500 index have reported, there are still a handful of big name companies set to report.
Topping the list for many investors is Cisco Systems (CSCO: news, chart). Its stock one of the most widely held, the company is expected to report results on Feb. 6 after the market closes.
Analysts polled by Thomson Financial/First Call currently anticipated the networking company to report a profit of 5 cents for its fiscal second quarter, down compared with the year-ago profit of 18 cents a share but a penny ahead of the first-quarter profit.
On the revenue side, analysts expect about $4.54 billion for the quarter compared with the year-ago total of $6.75 billion. Albeit year-over-year revenue is expected to drop, revenue is anticipated to grow slightly compared with the first quarter total of $4.45 billion.
Per the usual, analysts and investors will be most interested in what the networking giant might say about its future and capital spending. In addition, there is a belief that consolidation within the communications space is imminent. And that has Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown's analyst Raj Srikanth keeping a close eye on the networking giant, noting the company's strong balance sheet, which includes about $19 billion in cash and investments and virtually no long-term debt.
Medical devices manufacturer Boston Scientific (BSX: news, chart) is set to its fourth-quarter financial results on Feb. 5 after the market closes.
Investors already know what to expect in the way of fourth-quarter financial results, since the company released preliminary results earlier in the month. In that release, the company said it expects net income, which includes one-time charges, of $65 million, or 16 cents a share, compared with net income $60 million, or 15 cents a share, in the year-ago period.
Excluding one-time items, the company said it would post earnings of $82 million, or 20 cents a share in the quarter. That would be in line with the average of the 24 analysts' estimates and a penny ahead of the 19-cent profit reported in the third quarter. The average estimate for fourth-quarter revenue is $672 million, slightly higher than the third-quarter total of $670 million.
In the release, the company said that during the quarter the launch of its internally developed Express(TM) stent gain momentum in Europe and a number of other international markets. "We are excited about how well Express has been received by our customers," said Jim Tobin, president and chief executive officer of Boston Scientific. Coronary stent sales for the quarter increased 38 percent in those markets compared to the prior year, according to the company.
And that news confirmed A.G. Edwards' analyst Jan David Wald's thoughts that the Boston Scientific is seeing the beginnings of a turnaround especially beginning later this year with its Express coronary stent approval.
Wald anticipates more details about the company's stent product in its official earnings conference call on Tuesday.
The analyst currently has a price target of $32 a shares. Shares were last trading up 17 cents to $22.22.
Systems consulting company Electronic Data Systems (EDS: news, chart) is set to report fourth-quarter earnings on Feb.7 and analysts are expecting sequential revenue and earnings growth.
The 24 analysts polled by First Call currently expect revenue of about $6 billion and earnings of 79 cents a share, compared with the third-quarter total of $5.6 billion and 69 cents.
A main point of interest for many investors this quarter will most likely be on what the company might say about its latest contract wins.
In mid-January, the company announced the contract signing of Coca-Cola FEMSA in Latin America, California's Welfare Client Data System Consortium and Dana Corp. However, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
In addition, last week the company announced the contract signings of two clients in the UK, valued at about $250 million. The first contract is a three-year extension to EDS' existing Consistent Office Environment contract with BP plc. and the second is a three-year contract extension with Girobank for the continued provision of merchant acquiring services through December 2010.
All the contracts were signed in the fourth quarter of 2001 and will be included in the total for fourth-quarter business signings to be announced along with the company's annual results on Thursday.
Scorecard update
So far a total of 343 companies out of the S&P 500 have reported results so far. Among those, 197 companies beat analysts' estimates, while 92 companies missed the consensus estimates. Companies missing the consensus estimate stand at 54. On a historical basis, fewer companies are missing the consensus estimates and that is a function of the numerous estimate reductions from analysts, according First Call's research analyst Joe Cooper.
Barbara C. Costanza is earnings editor of CBS.MarketWatch.com, based in Los Angeles.
